In June of 1831 ,in Spain, the army’s of Britain, Portugal and Spain confronted the French army of napoleons brother Joseph. In a few hours commander Wellington had won and ended a six year occupation. This battle was pivotal in the 1813 campaign for multiple reasons. It showed just the type of commander the Duke of Wellington was. This book gives in-depth description of the battles and first hand accounts.
It was a very interesting history of wars that I don’t really know a lot about. The story was really in depth and well researched. If you enjoy history, you will enjoy this
This just wasn’t the book for me. I was really drawn to the cover and the description but the actual reading experience just fell flat for me.

I must admit that i requested this book because I have an itch to read about the Napoleonic War period lately. Considering my meager feedback ratio I'm surprised this request got accepted, but I'm glad it did, because I found this book very compelling despite my still rudimentary knowledge about most of the battles that took place between 1803 and 1815.
As the title says, Wellington and the Vitoria Campaign focuses solely on the before, during, and after of the battle of 21 June of 1813 in Vitoria, Spain. Carole Divall organizes the events in a carefully laid timeline and alternates the POVs of the French side with the Allies in a way that avoids confusion. Also combines the clinical aspects of the battle with personal accounts by incorporating extracts from letters and quoting personal anecdotes by those who experienced the campaign, which makes this read not a chore at all and gives it a more humane look at the event.
The addition of maps, table of casualties per each regiment, and illustrations of key people and zones is a great plus.
Overall, i recommend this book for anyone interested on this battle.
A good historical book regarding Wellington’s battle at Vitoria. The author makes good use of personal accounts by those at the battle to really enhance the story. The event is well described and you get a feeling of being in the action. A great read.
