Thanks to NetGalley and Clavis Publishing for providing me with a free copy of this book in return for my honest review.
Now, this is the sort of silly and cute book that I like and that I think will appeal to most young readers. It features a chicken who advises us that he is a descendant of dinosaurs. The chicken proceeds to show how each part of his body, from his feet, to his beak, to his feathers are all inherited from different dinosaurs. It is a cute premise and one that made me laugh when reading it, which is what seems to be the purpose of the book. Only 30 pages long, it certainly is not an encyclopedia about dinosaurs, but rather a fun intro for kids to start to learn about some the earliest inhabitants of the earth. Funny ending, and good illustrations that match the tone of the book. This is one book that I would think most young readers would enjoy and that I would be happy to give as a gift!

This is a fun book about a chicken with a dinosaur heritage and she can prove it. She proudly pulls out her photo album and highlights all types of dinosaurs: Velociraptor, Iguanodon, Stegosaurs, Triceratops and even a sharp tooth T. Rex! She gives her theory as to why the dinosaurs are now extinct and excuses herself from her narration
because she has an egg to hatch. Off she goes to straddle a HUGE egg all the while wondering what she in incubating. She is in for quite a surprise! Kids love an element of surprise and an unexpected ending twist.

The illustrations are cartoonish and full of details. They are quirky and fun with lots of action. The author cleverly weaves actual dinosaur information throughout to teach readers facts about these magnificent creatures. Kids will love the whole concept of the book and go back I'm sure to read it again and again. I highly recommend it.

This picture book is fun and adorable plus it’s got some great dinosaur facts that my five-year-old Dino lover ate up. I love that this books is from the point of view of a present day chicken reflecting on his family tree of dinosaurs via a family photo album/scrap book. This is funny and so well-illustrated.

This is a very funny story. You learn a lot about dinosaurs in a very humorous way from a Gallus gallus domesticus photo album. Illustrations peek your interest. Kid loved the story.

I love dinosaurs, so I'm inclined to read any book about dinos. My favorite thing about this book was the artwork. Don't get me wrong, the story was cute, but I loved loved loved this style! So cute story, fantastic artwork, but there was one thing that bothered me. The font for the story itself was quite hard to read, and I think it might be equally as difficult for children as well.

In this story, a chicken wants to prove that they descend from dinosaurs by walking you through their family album. This is a really fun way for the chicken to tell their story, but I was really confused on the first page as to who the chicken was speaking to. Was the chicken speaking to the dinosaur on the cover? The reader? I wasn't sure. There wasn't much conflict in the story either. I would have liked for their to be more interaction between the chicken and the dinosaur or reader, depending who the other half of this conversation is to. It felt like the chicken was just rattling off facts about dinosaurs that a young kid might not really understand.

This was such a cute story and so extremely informative. Even in my 30's I was able to learn from this tale, so no doubt it will be helpful to young children. The artwork has great, and I enjoyed the story talking back to the reader. My niece is four and she likes stories that engage like that because it makes her feel more immersed into the book. Would definitely recommend!

I read this alongside my four year old son and he laughed the whole way through! This was a delightful read full of wit and humor, but also with the added bonus of educational reading about a variety of dinosaurs. The illustrations were perfect for the descriptions alongside them and we can’t wait to see this on shelves soon!

I received a copy of this book from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

This book was adorable. It was amusing but still would help a child to learn things. And the pictures are really cute.

Thank you #Netgalley for the advance reader copy of The Truth About Dinosaurs by Guido Van Genechten in exchange for an honest review. I got this book because my six year old nephew is obsessed with dinosaurs. He was so excited to see that I got it. We read it today and he thought it was silly and fun. I love reading to him and dinosaurs are always a big hit. Thanks for the wacky book about a chicken who thinks he's a dino.

This was a cute book about a chicken trying to convince the reader that he is related to dinosaurs. It's presented like a family photo album and the chicken tells a brief story about a handful of different types of dinosaurs and how they have similarities. Was that a turtle that hatched at the end? Seems like it could hint at a sequel, who knows. This doesn't seem like something that I would incorporate into a classroom unit, but it would be great for my dinosaur/non-fiction/animal book lovers in first grade.

This sounded like a cute read. It was very informative about the history of different types of dinosaurs. I didn’t really understand what the chicken had to do with the story.

Thank you NetGalley for this ARC

It feels like this little story ended too abruptly. I was thinking about what the green chicken was talking about but then when I thought the story started making some good points, it ended right there.

Love the illustrations. I find them unique.

Thank you, author and the publisher, for the advance reading copy.

2021 gains a new board book edition of this title, which has a chicken demand its place in a story about dinosaurs, because its feet look kind of like dinosaur feet. It even hares off to show its family photo album, with all its dinosaur relatives in their snapshot form. It is very quick, rather silly, and very basic, letting us see a handful of notable dinos, discussing their end, and that's about it. As a primer for prehistory there must be better out there, even for the youngest of age ranges, although it is a fine way of showing how the dinosaurs do still exist in some shape or form to this day. Whether that's a subject that deserves a full book, I leave to you. Three and a half stars.
