All American comfort food...

A cookbook packed with easy to make recipes. Lot's of snacking recipes, and comfort foods, there is a low carb section and an extensive sweet section. I liked that there were color photos and could be made with ingredients you have on hand. I found that the majority of recipes were quick to prepare and not labor intensive (a plus for sure) and geared toward things that would appeal to kids and a family.

4.5

Thank you to the author, Shadow Mountain Publishing and NetGalley, for an ARC in exchange for an honest review.

I was drawn in by the lovely cover, but wish I had done a bit more reseach before I requested this as an ARC. Since I prefer to cook fresh and from scratch, and rarely use convenience foods, this cookbook went completely against the grain for me. Yes, I understand that for many people, it's about quickly getting something on the table without too much fuss. However, these recipes did not strike me as anything out of the ordinary, there was nothing I wanted to try or wouldn't have come up with on my own - and many were truly horrifying in nutritional terms. The whole thing felt more like a vanity project, including the photos. I won't even waste my breath about the US-centric ingredients and measurements.

A great book for families. This contains tons of recipes that look fairly easy to make, and the full color photos are mouthwatering. Recipes are in chapters on One-Pan Dinners, Feeding a Crowd, Game-Day Eats, Low Carb Favorites, Quick and Easy, Tried and True, and Something Sweet. I think my family would be willing and happy to eat the majority of these dishes. One drawback, there is not much in here for vegetarians.

Scrumptious from The Girl Who Ate Everything by Christy Denney is full of recipes that almost anyone will enjoy. Each recipe is mouthwatering while not overly complex. The photography is visually pleasing and manages to capture the beauty of each dish. I especially appreciated the “Scrumptious Tip” that was included with so many recipes. These sections were thoughtful and bursting with helpful advice about the ingredients or substitutions.

The busy cook will appreciate the many sheet pan dinners and I can’t wait to try the Million-Dollar Chicken, One minor criticism is the the estimated prep times seem a bit unrealistic to me but maybe I’m just slow. All in all a solid edition to the family cookbook shelf. (I voluntarily reviewed an advance reader copy and all opinions are my own.)

Oh where, oh where, oh where to even begin? This one is a solid 5 stars! I am a long-time fan of The Girl Who Ate Everything and have followed the blog for years. I have also already made many of her recipes and have her other cookbooks too. Biased? A little, but this is a really good, extremely easy to follow, beautifully photographed book. Is it gourmet? Not at all. Is it quick, delicious meals that your entire family will love and ask for again and again? ABSOLUTELY!! I can definitely recommend the One-Pan Creamy Spinach-Artichoke Pasta and Basil Parmesan Salmon. I have been already been making her Eggroll-in-a-Bowl, Honey-Garlic Pork Roast and Spinach Artichoke Dip for awhile and they are in regular rotation at my house. Buy this book!!! You will not be disappointed!

Thank you to #NetGalley, Christy Denney and Shadow Mountain Publishing for this ARC!

What a fun cookbook! Great pictures and well laid out recipes. The first recipe that went on my "must try" list is the salsa verde chicken skillet...sounds (and looks) delicious and perfect for a weeknight dinner for the family. Lots of good options also in the "game day" and "sweets" sections. Not sure I'll spend much time in the low carb section, but I was glad to see some vegetarian options in here.

Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for the eARC of this cookbook, in exchange for this honest review.

All I can say is wow!!!

I first opened the book just for a quick perusal and found that I could not stop exploring it after getting just a peak. The book itself is beautifully laid out, with delicious looking pictures for every recipe and easy to understand instructions. But I’m top of that, I could probably imagine myself making just about every one of them!

There are a lot of pretty standard favourites in the book like broccoli cheese soup, shepherds pie, and cheesy taco pasta shells. However, while most of the recipes seem like things I’ve heard of before, many of them have their own exciting twist (like Cuban sandwich dip, birthday cake cinnamon rolls, and sheet pan Philly cheesesteak). Plus, this book is just layered with the reality that it is a mom cooking for her family. The recipes often make enough to feed a group, come together in a relatively short period of time, and if there’s a way to make an arduous task quicker, she does it (like by cooking pancakes on a sheet pan or lasagna as a one pan meal).

Even reading the table of contents gives the clear impression that this is the kind of book anyone feeding a family could use everyday without getting bored. It’s divided into one pan meal, recipes to feed a crowd, game day snacks, low-carb favourites, quick and easy recipes, her tried and true favourites, and sweet desserts or snacks.

I am thoroughly impressed by this cookbook that features tons of recipes with easy instructions and big payoffs. Frankly, I think that for anyone looking for a cookbook that can help them get delicious meals on the table each day, this book is beyond worth it. It may not be filled with the most creative or new flavour profiles, so if you’re looking for that then I’d try elsewhere, but if you’re just looking for good and simple food, this is the book for you!

Thanks to the publishers and netgalley for a digital arc of this book in exchange for an honest review.

The pictures and recipes in this outstanding cookbook will surely give your eyes a heart attack! I was literally salivating, oohing and aahing as I turned each page: this was truly a feast for the eyes and the stomach! These recipes and the graphics truly live up to the title: absolutely Scrumptious!

As I was taking my time, enjoying each new entry, I was so pleased to discover a recipe for chicken and dumplings: one of my very favourite comfort foods! I appreciated the tip of sprinkling the rolled out dumplings with extra flour to avoid sticking. (Smart!)

Christy Denney has five children (three boys, two girls) and an ex-Miami Dolphins football player husband to feed. All those sheet pan recipes must come in handy come meal time!

I loved the picture of the entire clan in the first few pages of the book. A well-fed family is a happy family! (So, okay, I made that up, but I would have been a happy camper if my parents had been capable of whipping up even HALF of the goodies to be found in this absolute keeper of a cookbook.

The author gets right down to business and warms us up with a few quick sheet pan meals for the busy home chef. The One Pan Breakfast Bake (hash browns, bacon, cheddar cheese and olive oil) topped with six eggs) looked divinely enticing! (I love that you aren't bombarded with three pages of ingredients in each recipe.) I marveled at the simplicity but tastiness of each recipe. Cheese is a major ingredient in just about every recipe here, but I was not complaining. (I am going to try to make the "chaffles' - flourless waffles made with cheese and eggs on a waffle grill.)

The desserts almost had me in tears: I'm writing this review at one a.m. in the morning. No snacks allowed for me, although my taste buds are dancing up a storm. The Brownie Cookies looked divinely sinful, and for sure I am going to try the Birthday Cinnamon Roll Cake - secret ingredient: cake mix!!!

The Cookies and Cream Brownies also looked utterly decadent, and I'm pretty sure I gained weight just THINKING about eating one!

Christy Denney truly knocked one out of the ballpark with this keeper of a cookbook. I absolutely loved every single recipe and I know that any foodie would love to receive a copy of this book as a gift. I know I certainly would!

My thanks to the author, publisher and NetGalley for an ARC of this extremely well executed cookbook. It was an absolute pleasure to read and review! 5 out of 5 Scrumptious Stars!
(Note: because the book has not yet been published, the pictures that I am using here are from the internet, and not from this recipe book. Hopefully after the book is published, I will be sent some of the amazing photos of the dishes in this book: they were absolutely mouthwatering!)

This excellent book is divided into six sections:
*one-pan dinners
*feeding a crowd
*low-carb favourites
*quick and easy
*tried and true
*something sweet
Each recipe has a colour photo and the instructions are clear, simple and easy to understand.
I particularly enjoyed the Cajun Sausage and Rice skillet, packed with sweet bell peppers, followed by a Blueberry and lemon blondie.
Delicious!

This was just divine - I just loved the recipes in here and they were easy to follow, with just the right touch of decadence if that makes sense.

I was given an advance copy by netgalley and the publishers but the review is entirely my own.

Fun, fast and filling recipes perfect for families. Nothing fancy but lots of great ideas. Great gift idea!

I was a bit disappointed by this book.
It was sent to me for review (so I didn't pick it for a particular reason) but the recipes didn't make me want to start cooking, many were recipes I know or have myself (though maybe the part about feeding a crowd can help people make recipes in larger batches) and except for very few, all the combinations were rather traditional.
Nothing really caught my eye.

I did like the dessert part though as well as some of the snacks. That was the highlight and the brownie cookies are absolutely delicious!

I found the book to be more oriented towards cooking for a large family. It was not what I was looking for at this time.

This recipe book is presented beautifully with vibrant photography accompanying each recipe. The layout is simple and easy to understand and the recipes easy to follow. They all contain pretty basic ingredients that are not hard to source and will not cost you an arm and a leg. The book contains several chapters with a range of recipes from one pan dinners to feeding a crowd to something sweet. It covers a broad range. The recipes aren't one of a kinds or something you have never tried before but are simple crowd pleasers or weeknight meals. I feel this would definitely suit a beginner cook. Thank you to the publisher and Netgalley for the ARC in return for an honest review

Rounded up from 3.5 stars.

Reading through this book it's hard to believe the author doesn't have diabetes because these are generally very high calorie, high carb dishes, but Christy Denney is the typical beautiful, skinny, young blonde Mormon mommy blogger and the wife of a professional athlete. The recipes tend to use copious amounts of refined carbs (mostly bread, pasta and rice), cheese, heavy cream, meat, etc. Even her salads have pasta or a loaf of diced bread in them. There is one chapter just for low-carb recipes, though, which I appreciated.

What's good -- there is a full page photo of every single recipe (yay) and they're gorgeous. The ingredient lists tend towards very sparse, which makes it easy to shop or prepare for. Denney uses a lot of purchased ingredients like marinara sauce, gnocchi, puff pastry, cake mixes, etc. so these are pretty simple to assemble. Many are one-pan dishes and most are likely to be very kid-friendly and husband-friendly since they use so much cheese, meat and wheat. Many of the recipes are very easy, and even the hard ones like birthday cake cinnamon rolls are written so they look easy (I'm not sure if this is good or bad?). Most don't call for expensive or hard to find ingredients, either. Some recipes are much healthier than others and these tend to be very simple ones with few ingredients like sheet pan dinners where meats and veggies are just baked on a pan together. There are also a lot of recipes that seem like they'd be delicious indulgences. There's a block of cream cheese in a lot of these recipes, and that's never a bad sign if you want something decadent.

What's not so good -- there is no nutritional information provided, other than carb counts for the low-carb chapter recipes. Many of them seem like they would be very, very high in calories, salt, sugar, carbs and/or fat, so people who are watching any of these would need to be wary. This is also not a cookbook easy to convert for people on special diets (vegetarian, vegan, gluten free, keto, etc.). As mentioned, some of the recipes seem deceptively simple but I know from experience that it's a little more work to make things like homemade cinnamon rolls even with boxed cake mix as part of the ingredient list.

This is the sort of cookbook that I'd be tempted to give to my 18 y/o son who's moving to his own house next year. He knows the basics of how to cook well but a lot of these would make great recipes to add to his repertoire. I won't, though, since he cooks for many gluten free and vegetarian folks and most of the recipes are the type I keep for company instead of everyday healthy meals. I think most people will absolutely love the cookbook though. There's a lot to love, especially if you don't have any health issues and are not trying to lose weight. Just be cautious because with this kind of eating every day you probably would before too long.

I read a temporary digital ARC of this book for review.

I did not read this book through an educator lens.

Scrumptious from the Girl Who Ate Everything by Christy Denney was ok. I wouldn't purchase a copy or share it with friends as a must have in my collection. The recipes were pretty basic and didn't really seem original. They all looked good, but everything seemed similar to what I already have in cookbooks.

Another great cookbook! I can't wait to try some of these recipes especially the churro saltines!

Thank you to netgalley and the publishers for providing me with an arc for an honest review!

I’ve been following this food blogger for a few years so I was excited to peak inside her newest cookbook and let me tell you, it did not disappoint! In fact, I’m going to buy a couple hard copies to give as gifts, particularly to newly weds as this book has a bit of EVERYTHING! From comfort food to game day to fancy appetizers, this cookbook really covers the gamut from cooking for a crowd on soccer night to “look at this yummy dessert I made”!

Let me just list a few to give you an idea what’s inside these pages; chicken and dumplings, easy Bolognese, garlic knots, various sheet pan dinners as well as casseroles. But also there are jaw dropping recipes for Raspberry cream cheese puffs, crepes, Prosciutto aspagaus bundles and Cookie butter lava cookies, WHAT?! That cookie recipe alone might be worth buying this cookbook!

There are so many recipes inside these pages and each has its own photo, which I personally love so I know how it’s supposed to look. This cookbook is a treasure for anyone who has been cooking for many years to the ‘just launched’ young adult who wants to learn to cook.

Thank you to Netgalley, Shadow Mountain Publishing, and Christy Denney for this eARC in exchange for my honest review.

Scrumptious is a great start for a home cook. Recipes that I generally think of as comfort food that every home cook should have a go to recipe for, like chicken noodle soup, chicken and dumplings, stuffed shells, etc. There isn't anything that seems incredibly unique but not everything needs to reinvent the wheel, so to speak. Nothing wrong with going back to basics.

If you like comfort foods, you want this book in your hands! It is an excellent addition to any kitchen. I personally love the photography with each recipe; I like to see what I am working towards. These are simple, easy to follow recipes with basic, everyday ingredients. Chapters include: One-Pan Dinners, Feeding A Crowd, Tried and True and Something Sweet. This means there truly is something in here for everyone. I felt enabled and empowered to try every single recipe represented here. Dishes are quick, with prep time and cook times provided. There is a reason Christy Denney is such a popular blogger. This book showcases so many of the reasons.
I received a complimentary copy from the publisher via NetGalley and all opinions expressed are solely my own, freely given.
