I cannot remember the last time I devoured a book this quickly! I loved how prickly Delilah is and the snark, but also how she starts to trust enough to show her squishy center. I love the setting (I'm from Oregon too!) and all the secondary characters. Fantastic romance and I cannot wait for more in the series!
While, I loved the idea and the concept of this book, I found that I had to drag myself through some of the chapters. I had trouble relating to the characters, and there was so much happening in such a small amount of time that I couldn't always keep up. Overall, I thought it was a decent read, and loved the relationship between Delilah and Claire!
Prior to picking this one up I had read two of Ashley Herring Blake's middle grade books and one of her YA's and given them all 5 star ratings and I am SO HAPPY to report that miss Delilah Green carries on the 5 star streak!! This book was everything my queer, romance loving heart needed and I am so!!!!! glad!!!!! that it exists. From every single character having their own distinct lives and personalities to the ~RELATIONSHIPS~ between them, this book was perfect. Delilah and Claire and Astrid and Ruby and IRIS!!!! MY HEART! This review is rambling and makes absolutely no sense but please just take my word for it that this was an absolute delight and you neeeeeed! to pick it up when it comes out in February. Also I am *desperate* to read book two because from the snippet I read it looks like that one is also going to be queer?????? WOW I JUST HAVE THE MIGHTIEST NEED PLS READ THIS BOOK SO WE CAN HAVE A MILLION MORE LIKE IT THANK YOU YOU WON'T REGRET IT XOXO
CW: death of a parent
This was amazing and sweet and cute and adorable and everything I needed and wanted in a sapphic romance and I’m just really happy.
Holy cow this will be the next hit romcom to fly off the shelves. The story and the characters are so angsty and this one flips well-known tropes on their heads. A great read.
This book was so good- I’m worried to pick up another because honestly how can it even compare. While I received this book free from a Goodreads give away, after finishing it I immediately placed a preorder because it’s just THAT good.
Delilah Green Doesn't Care by Ashley Herring Blake tells the story of Delilah, an aspiring NYC photographer forced to go back to her small hometown of Bright Falls to photograph her estranged stepsister's wedding. Once there, she finds herself falling for Claire, her stepsister's best friend and former high school mean girl turned young single mom and bookstore owner.
This book is an absolutely adorable queer romance. It alternates viewpoints between Delilah and Claire and I fell in love with both of them. I expected a pleasant and cute cozy romance, but this honestly exceeded my expectations. I'm so excited to see this is just the first in a "Bright Falls" series. 4.5 stars.
This book is everything I want in a sapphic romance - sweet, romantic, and funny with some great spice along the way. I loved Delilah's and Claire's dynamic (the grumpy/sunshine trope!), but I also loved Delilah's relationship with her step-sister. Often side characters fall flat in romances while only the couple is developed, but this was not the case here. There was also a sneak-peek for the second book which follows my favorite side character, so I'm even more excited for that.
I see this quickly becoming a sapphic Booktok favorite! 4.5 stars, rounding up to 5.
I could not put this book down! Seriously. It’s the romcom I needed to end the year right. Delilah Green is a sexy artist with swoon worthy tattoos, a killer style, and a big personality. She avoided her hometown, stepsister and stepmother after a misunderstood childhood. That deep emotional trauma carries the interpersonal conflict throughout the book and informs every one of Delilah’s decisions, making her a dynamic and interesting character. I literally felt all of her hurt toward her family.
On the other hand, Claire is a mom trying to get back into dating again. She has major issues with her ex that are a source of conflict for her throughout the book. Her frustration is visceral and I truly felt bad for her— feeling like she was always playing the bad guy with her kid. Her attraction to Delilah is tangible and hot.
Overall, the book was expertly crafted and sexy. My emotions were HIGH but it was so satisfying in the end. 100% would recommend.
This queer rom-com with its surprisingly on-point introspection on what a healthy relationship looks like and well-developed characters will leave readers' hearts a little more full than before. And swooning for their own Delilah Green.
I loved this queer romance, it’s one of the most well-written ones I have read so far. The characters were so well developed, the usual tropes and aspects I am used to seeing in romance novels were not there at all or written so well that I couldn’t be annoyed they were used at all.
Blake gives us two women both at very different points in their lives but both struggling with coming to terms with events from their pasts.
I will say that for a romance it was quite emotional on all fronts. Familial, friendships, and romantically. But I think it just enriched the story and made it more relatable to the readers. It was well balanced throughout.
All in all, a solid, well-developed queer romance that I recommend to anyone looking for something fresh and steamy to read.
Thank you to Berkley Publishing and NetGalley for the ARC in exchange for an honest review.
This book was much steamier than I thought it would be and therefore would not be a title I recommend to my teen patrons. I am glad this book has been published since there is a demand of LGBTQ+ romance. I could tell that it was well written and would like to revisit it at a later date but must find titles for my collection before pleasure reading.
Delilah Green Doesn’t Care is the queer romance of my dreams. It was delightfully steamy and I loved the buildup of the romance. The characters were all fantastic and I loved the plot+Delilah!
Thank you Netgalley and Berkley for an arc, here is my honest review.
4.75 stars
Delilah Green Doesn’t Care is everything I need in a romance book, queer women falling in love while dealing with the difficulties that come with life.
Loneliest is always a topic in romance books, but I think this is the first time I felt that it was written well. Delilah is a new comfort character for me and I cried a few times reading her POV.
Delilah and Claire’s chemistry is just written so perfectly and I understand why they fell for each other. And although they fell in love in such a short amount of time, it didn’t feel like insta-love.
One of the main issues many romance books have is how side characters are written. At times, side characters are forgotten which leaves the story feeling empty. Thankfully, this didn’t happen here and most side characters had great development. Everyone but Iris, I wanted to learn more about her, but that never happened.
Overall, I love this book and can’t wait for the next book, which is about Astrid(Delilah’s sister)
You've heard of the brother's best friend trope, but Ashley Herring Blake introduces you to (the much better) estranged step sister's best friend trope. I have no doubt that this will be a huge book on booktok, bookstagram, and any other book social media. I can 100% see this generating the same hype as one last stop (though the two are very different amazing pieces of art). I loved how you were able to see so many different relationships between the characters (both healthy and unhealthy) and was able to see them grow throughout the book. I loved the dual pov's because it made it so easy to get to know both of the mc's and their own problems and lives, They each had their own issues they needed to work through- Delilah feeling unlovable and growing up without any support, and Claire having a mainly absent, unreliable father to her preteen daughter. One particular thing I loved was seeing Delilah and Claire's daughter, Ruby, connect and start to build a relationship. However, I do wish there was more of Astrid and Delilah's relationship and their growth together (though maybe that will be seen in the next book, Astrid Parker Doesn't Fail).
Queer, adult, enemies to lovers?! PLEASE AND THANK YOU! This book was so good. I loved the relationship that was built between Delilah and Claire. This hit all the marks :)
Okay, wow! I KNEW i was going to enjoy this book just from the title and cover, they say don’t judge a book by the cover but they haven’t seen romance covers lately, they’re always spot on! Anyways, the story! I loved it, it was a grump/sunshine romance as I always adore, and delved into SO many heavy topics (which i also like in books, it’s important to be real even in fiction!). Delilah Green seeking authentic love and life is what really drew me in,, i’m just a sap for that kind of goal in life and couldn’t help but relate to her in some aspects. This is also so refreshing to see an Adult Romance from a YA author, It’s brilliant!
DELILAH GREEN DOESN’T CARE by Ashley Herring Blake is a funny, tender, second chance queer romance.
As a teen, Delilah felt ostracized by her stepmother and stepsisterAstrid after her father died and left her an orphan. She left home at 18 to pursue her photography career, never looking back. So she’s shocked when her stepmother asks her to be the photographer at Astrid’s wedding. She knows going back to Bright Falls will be tough but she needs the money.
On her first evening back, Delilah heads to a bar and spots members of The Coven, Astrid’s high school friends who Mean Girled her. Evidently they don’t recognize her because one of them, Claire, starts hitting on her…
The story’s told in alternating POV between Delilah and Claire which gives a yin/yang energy. Delilah’s rough around the edges and holds her emotions close to her chest, wary of letting anyone get close. Claire’s more open with her emotions, softer and warmer.
Lots of complicated relationships - familial, friendship, and romantic. Lots of emotions to unpack. My favorite part is that the entire book is about women supporting each other - as friends, lovers, family members.
Lots of giggly moments and some deeply swoony ones.
This was an absolute delight of a queer romance, women’s fiction with insta-attraction, forced proximity, family drama, and cute kid moments.
Absolutely delightful. A sapphic rom com with just the right balance of family drama, emotional soul searching, and shameless tropiness.
Full honesty - I almost dnf’ed in the first chapter at Delilah’s rough edges. Her stepsister’s name in her phone is Ass-trid. The extended bit with “I can’t remember the name of the woman who I just woke up with” was not endearing. Delilah is, in short, a complete dick at the beginning of this tale, even in the scenes from her own point of view.
But. I am so. Fucking. Glad. I stuck with it. By chapter two I was completely hooked. Delilah’s personality is increasingly understandable as her past is slowly revealed. And it turns out her stepsister isn’t as wicked as Delilah believes.
Honestly, almost all the characters are remarkably layered and complex. Claire, Delilah’s love interest and Astrid’s best friend, has a lot of realistic baggage around being a single parent (of a preteen, no less!) with an unreliable baby daddy. The relationships between Claire, Astrid, their bestie Iris, and Delilah herself are nuanced and fleshed out.
Absolutely recommended for fans of well-developed and steamy relationships.
This was such a fantastic sapphic romance!
I've loved AHB's middle grade books and am so delighted that this adult debut fulfilled everything I wanted from it. I enjoyed the dual perspective, the attention to detail, the full lives of the side characters, and the discussion of being an artist in this world. Pre-order this now if you haven't already, because it's wonderful.

I've been a long-time fan of Ashley Herring Blake's YA and middle-grade books so I was curious how her transition to Adult Romance would go. This book blew my socks off! Our main characters are messy and vulnerable and it's amazing to watch their relationship unfold. The best friends and ex also get to be fully formed characters with issues and drama too. The romance is such a good blend of hot and yearning. Don't sleep on this book b/c it's going to be the best sapphic romance of 2022.
