Whisper Island combines multiple genres effectively in an edge-of-your-seat murder mystery thriller.
Four college friends escape their problems to an island in Alaska in the summer. Each is going for a different and reason unknown to the others. As the book progresses, and a few other characters are introduced, discovering the secrets becomes a matter of life and death!
In this locked room murder you have no idea who is the hunter and who are being hunted or why. Fantastic plot and descriptions. The ending rang true and was satisfying! Highly Recommended! Thank you to @NetGalley and @Harpercollings for the ARC in exchange for an honest review. #WhisperIsland #NetGalley
This novel is a classic locked room mystery. Take four young girls to an isolated and dilapidated location and let the games begin! This story ready quickly, although I wasn’t a fan of the constantly alternating points of view. There were some parts that were a bit predictable, but altogether m’am enjoyable read.
I love locked room mysteries so I had to request this one. While I did enjoy it, I feel like how the characters acted and the entire scheme to get them to come to the island was completely unrealistic. I don’t understand why they decided to stay when they realized the island was run down and abandoned. Still, it was a decent mystery.
I have always loved mystery books that are set in desolate places, so this was right up my alley!
Whisper Island was a psychological thriller that was fast paced and I literally finished in one sitting! The characters, 9verall were decent and you never really know who to root for! The ending did come as a surprise to me!
If you like mysteries or psychological thrillers I would definitely recommend.
Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for this ARC in exchange for a honest review.
My thanks to Harper 360, Carissa Ann Lynch and Netgalley.
This story was utterly predictable. I knew who the killer was, and I should have hated every stinking minute of it. But? I just loved the damned thing!
Also, that ending is fucked up!
Four art students head to a remote Alaskan island on a sort of self-directed artists’ retreat. All of them arrive with baggage in the form of secrets and those secrets take on new significance as people start turning up dead.
This is a NA thriller with vibes reminiscent of And Then There Were None and I Know What You Did Last Summer.
The scene setting and atmosphere of the remote island are great. However, the plot felt weak and unbelievable at times. There were inconsistencies in the plot that would take me out of the story. For instance, the characters oscillate between calling Riley one of their best friends and a complete stranger they don’t trust. Additionally, Riley indicates her friendship with the other girls isn’t planned but the scheme to get them all to the island is quite complex and seems to take some amount of time. The internal dialogue of the characters was also not consistent with college girls in their 20s. It was distracting at times.
Overall, this was a campy thriller that moved fast with a strong sense of place.
I freaking love a locked room thriller. I ate this up. A bunch of strangers forced together, no technology, games begin. The prose is inviting and the descriptions are extremely atmospheric. I saw a few plot points coming but it didn't take away from the story. Well done!
Note: I received a copy of this book from Harper Collins via NetGalley.
For friends Riley, Sam, Mia, and Scarlett, their trip to Whisper Island was meant to be a once-in-a-lifetime adventure – just four young women, with everything to live for… But as soon as they arrive things start to go wrong. First, there is the unexpected arrival of Sammy’s drug addict brother and his girlfriend Opal – why are they here? And then the deaths begin. As the dream trip quickly turns into a nightmare, suspicion is high. Are they really alone on the island? Or is there a killer hiding in the shadows? And as each of the girls reveals a dark secret of their own, perhaps the truth is the killer is closer than they think…just a whisper away…
I am very much interested in the whodunit concept of a good remote location murder mystery. I like the thrill of who is going to be next and trying to figure out the mystery. In this book, I had a pretty good sense of what was happening pretty early on. I enjoyed reading the suspense throughout but the ending for me did not live up to its potential.
Good book! Wow lots of twists and turns!! I thought the book was going one way then bam! Took a whole other turn! Lol this book had suspense, intrigue, lots of murder and mayhem! I would definitely recommend reading this book! Its well worth reading! Thank you Netgalley and the publisher for sharing this book with me!
This is a story about some friends on an island… and then there were none.
This book was not for me, but I’m sure lots of people will enjoy it. I generally enjoy first person narration, but I was at a loss regarding the use of italicized inner thoughts… when we were already seeing the world through the characters eyes? And despite multiple narrators- it didn’t read as a multi perspective book, because everyone sounded so similar. On the upside, I think for very young mystery/thriller readers this is an easily accessible read that they might enjoy.
Thank you so much Netgalley & Harper 360 for this eArc!
Thank you One More Chapter and NetGalley for this advanced ebook copy!
Whisper Island by Carissa Ann Lynch was one book I seriously couldn't put down!
The story is told from four girls point of view and. I enjoyed this style of writing.
The girls all had secrets and they twisted around the story perfectly.
I loved the creepy, thrilling plot. With amazing storytelling that flowed great!
This is what I call a page turner!
The ending was brilliant.
Highly recommended. Because I loved everything about this book!
Thank you again for the opportunity to read and review this book!
Four good friends and one one ex-boyfriend/brother and his new girlfriend go to a remote island in the far not-so-warm reaches of Alaska. There is no internet, no cell service, and no way off the island. What could go wrong?
The prose was so descriptive, I could almost see the abandoned out buildings as each character takes a discovery excursion. I wanted to shout "LOOK OUT!" because you just know someone is going to be lurking and/or something bad is going to happen. You've all read Agatha Christie, right? I know some will say that's an unfair comparison, but one of my favorite books was And Then There Were None and I'm a sucker for any kind of locked room mystery.
I thought the story moved quickly, with lots happening at every turn. The only thing I couldn't reconcile was why the group didn't arrange for someone from the mainland to check in on them once in a while. However, that didn't detract from the pleasure I got reading until the very (satisfying) ending!
Thanks to NetGalley, Harper360 and One More Chapter for an advance reader's copy for review. I'm becoming a fast fan of this publisher.
Scarlet, Riley, Sam and Mia have planned the adventure of a lifetime, a trip to Whisper Island. It promises to be fun and exciting and provide a lifetime of memories. And it will, just not in the way the four friends are expecting. Their trip goes wrong almost from the beginning when Sam’s drug addicted brother and his girlfriend show up. Then there’s the feeling that they aren’t alone on the island and when people start dying, the girls’ worst fears are confirmed,. Who would want to kill them, is there a stranger, a madman lurking somewhere on the island? Or is it worse, is it someone closer than they could ever imagine?
