This graphic novel was hilarious and well-drawn, definitely worth the money and the hype, and I hope will be successful!
This title is heartbreaking but informative. Through the author’s own personal history, the reader learns about intimate partner violence and the ways it can manifest.
Great art and a story that anyone could experience make up this great title. The author bares herself to the reader in such a vulnerable way that it should be applauded.
An interesting take on toxic relationships. This graphic novel is really well put, it's interesting and everyone who've been through that can relate. The topic is essential and important.
So Much for Love by Sophie Lambda is a graphic memoir about her time in an abusive relationship and how she dealt with the trauma that brought.
This book was so powerful that I didn't want to put it down. The artwork was mazing and I loved that she included information on psychology in the book.
This is one of those books that everyone should read.
A painfully honest look at abusive relationships and how they can take even the most cynical, self-aware person by surprise. Sophie Lambda's memoir is a strong choice for young adult and new adult collections.
This is a graphic novel that certainly has it's merits. But as a executed story, it just didn't hold up. The initial two-thirds of the story were relatively engaging and striking - the raw nature of someone becoming aware of the escalting manipulation within a relationship was undeniable - this is not a happy topic and the storytelling clearly displays that.
The author uses a teddy bear to depict the MC's inner dialogue throughout, which feels a little odd given the serious nature of the rest of the book. The final third of the book - which delves into the aftermath of escaping the relationship - while genuine, felt long-winded. Overall, the book just felt much longer than it should have been.
Please note: I have no personal experience with toxic relationships. I absolutely recognise that others may get much more out of this graphic novel than I have depicted within this review.
This is an amazing book. I would recommend it to anyone who has lived this life. It was nice to know more people have felt this way. I loved it. I can not wait to own a copy of this book. So so so so so so good.
I'm trying to find the words to describe just how necessary and important this book is for all people interested in romantic relationships. I think this book can help even people with non-romantic relationships such as friends, family, and work relationships. Sophie really shows the reader how she survived but also, and so importantly, how we can survive if we come across a manipulator or if we're already in contact with one.
At 29 years old I wish I'd read this alot sooner. It would've saved me a lot of heartache and ruminating on bad and abusive relationships of all kinds. From friends to family to guys.
I especially love this book being in graphic novel form. I'm definitely going to own a physical copy in the future.
Starts out strong and has very cute art, but it really goes on for about 100 pages too long. Cutting out all the minute details of why the boyfriend was shitty (we get it girl, dude was SHITTY) would have been just fine.
Thank you to NetGalley for the chance to read and review So Much for Love by Sophie Lambda.
This was a great graphic novel, but it was not always easy to read. Sophie Lambda uses her cute drawing style to retell her story of being in a manipulative and abusive relationship.
Not a book that leaves you feelIng good, but certainly one that leaves you with a valuable lesson and helps the reader to identify the red flags in an abusive or becoming abusive relationship.
This is a European graphic novel that tells the (lightly fictionalized?) story of the author's whirlwind romance turned abusive relationship and how she picked the pieces up after. It also, in the second half, serves as a primer to help people understand the red flags, tactics, and safe ways to extricate oneself from a narcissistic abuser. The art style was very cartoon-like and for a while I wasn't sure if the art would detract from the serious and disturbing content. And it did for a while until I slowly realized how disturbed I was getting even when everything was cartoonish in its visuals. and it also made the transition from the Disney-princess beginnings of the relationship to the serious and abusive middle, end, and aftermath much easier to take. The advice was well presented, sourced, and gave a nice balance to the book making it more than just one person's horrifying story. The use of the foul mouthed stuffed animal spirit guide was another great touch and also helped solidify the transition from fantasyland to ugly reality in this relationship. A hard read but a very good one.
Thank you to Netgalley for providing an e-galley for review. Sophie Lambda's "So Much for Love" rings so true. There were times that I had to stop reading because it cut so close to home. This was a true to life memoir of living and surviving through a toxic relationship, including the after effects.
I received a digital ARC of this book through NetGalley from First Second for an honest review.
Sophie Lambda provides an account of her toxic and traumatic relationship in this tough to swallow graphic novel. While hard to read at times, her experience is valuable to a reader of any gender to be aware of manipulation tactics. The supplemental resources for finding help from domestic abuse and the afterword from a person Sophie connected with who was manipulated by the same abuser were nice touches. Her cartoonish art style and musings with her childhood teddy bear give light to the serious matter of the book.
In internesting combination of self-help book and memoir that gives insight into what it's like to discover you'r ein a relationship with a toxic person a narcissist.
I don't have any experience with it myself, but it's always good to be aware of the signs, especially as a teacher of young adults.
This somehow managed to be a super cute graphic novel about a very serious subject. This graphic novel would be great for anyone who has ever been in a manipulative relationship, is in a manipulative relationship---whether romantic, personal, or professional.
I did enjoy this book, even though it's not a happy topic. The way Sophie Lambda is able to draw the trauma and draw attention to the situation is heartfelt and thoughtful. I love that she realized and expressed in the book the fact that one must also look inward and acknowledge the ways in which their own behavior contributed to the situation. I thought including Chocolat was a little odd, but by the end he had grown on me. Appreciate the references for help listed at the end. I love the surprise letter at the end as well.
A very gripping story about psychological abuse and how it affects you both when it happens and after.
The story is told with a wry sense of humour, but still manages to talk about the serious issues, as well as giving facts.
I highly recommend it.

My biggest problem with this book is that it should have been two books. The first 2/3 was an autobiographical depiction of a manipulative relationship. The last 1/3 was a nonfiction book about how to avoid and/or escape emotionally abusive relationships. I liked both sections and thought they were quite informative, but they don't quite mesh well together. Everything else about this book was great. I loved the art, the feelings were genuine, and the teddy bear as a metaphor really worked well.
Sophie Lambda shares a difficult story from start to finish and beyond. This graphic has so much amazing information for those who have been through or are going through a toxic relationship. Every part of this graphic is real and 100% relatable. I cried with her when she described her depression and feelings of worthlessness.
I very much enjoyed Sophie's guide through her own thoughts and hindsight is her childhood Teddy Bear. Thank you to the author for creating a novel that makes all of us who deal/dealt with toxic people know we are not alone and never have been. A triumph of a graphic novel! Well done!
