Suspect Number One…
A romantic cosy mystery in this tale of a mortician, used to seeing bodies but not those murdered in her own funeral home. Lily is soon to become suspect number one and needs to clear her name. Entertaining and engaging with a well drawn cast and a nice resolution.

3 1/2 Stars for this one. I wasn't sure what to expect, but found it interesting and strange all at the same time. I think I now know way more about what a mortician does than I care too. haha....
When a member of a family owned funeral home goes into the basement to check the freezers, she wasn't expecting to find a "murdered" dead body on their floor. When a new officer comes to investigate, he thinks she might actually be guilty! So, she decides to pay super sleuth and figure out who the murder might be. It doesn't help that the officer is "easy on the eyes" and it's a little hard to concentrate when he questions her.
It's a cozy mystery, with a lot going on and it was a little confusing at times. But all in all, I think it was okay.

Gave up at 82%, the story is divided up into at least three distinct sections by that point. I would give away the story by providing details, but they don't make sense. Just a couple of items of the many issues I had: The characters assume stuff and in the first part the detective spells out the whole shebang including motive without the killer or anyone else telling him anything. <spoiler>.He seems to extrapolate this based on something he's found illegally too boot, making the arrest invalid (plus there's no other evidence linking the killer). </spoiler>. In the third part, I stopped after Lily mentions <spoiler> she's seen a tattoo several times before but there's no mention that the women with the tattoos she's seen had been murdered and there's a gigantic leap that this is a serial killer because the body she and the detective are looking at has the same tattoo. What?!? </spoiler>.

This book has potential but needs more detail added so it's more plausible.

I received a copy from Netgalley in exchange for my honest review.

I looked forward to this title as the summary was intriguing. Mortician Lily Reynolds finds a dead body in their mortuary, one that isn’t supposed to be there. Detective James Rivers is called to the scene and seems to suspect Lily. For a while the story was interesting, but then, for me, it wasn’t. Lily plays detective and gets in trouble with James saving her. A man attacks Lily and to get him to talk, James tells him he can leave once he admits who hired him. James shares evidence with Lily when she is still considered a possible suspect then recruits her to help him with the investigation. There were other instances that made me just shake my head and think really??? I rate this book with two stars as the premise was interesting, but the story just wasn’t believable. I received an advance review copy at no cost and without obligation for an honest review. (by paytonpuppy)
