This is a nice version of a classic story. The illustrations were well done and a good addition.
A beautiful version of the Dicken’s classic.
I enjoyed the classic feel of the illustrations.
The stories are very long (not at all a children’s version of them), perhaps would be better marketed as a juvenile read (early chapter book level?) as the level of reading required to read this story independently is quite a bit older (as is the comprehension). The cover and description make it feel as if it’s a children’s picture book, and the inside depicts differently. This is definitely a young readers edition of a Dicken’s classic, not a children’s story.
I would suggest this story book to a young reader who is ready for Dicken’s work, but his originals would be a bit too long - but the readers are beyond a picture book version.
Approximately two dozen illustrations featured with the classic tale, in a distinct, almost watercolor-type style. For me they neither added or detracted from the story, but those who appreciate art more than I do may find them interesting.
Many thanks to the publisher and NetGalley for the opportunity to read and review.
As a HUGE fan of Christmas, and in particular a fan of ''A Christmas Carol'', I highly, highly, recommend this beautiful new edition. I wish I had a physical copy in my hands too!
This is the classic story in fusion with beautiful, watercolour illustrations by Hans Christian Andersen Award recipient Lisbeth Zwerger. Looking through this, I got the impression that she told the tale through her use of colours and techniques. I'm by no means an expert in illustrating, so I won't be able to properly describe what and how it's done, but each illustration helps bring the atmosphere of the characters and situations to life. The way Scrooge is depicted and the colours she uses for him, are in total opposite of what she does for other characters. You can exactly tell which characters are good, kind, lovely, and which are...not so much.
Once again, this is the classic story (which I've read so many times, and watched all kinds of renditions of it, even the Muppet Christmas Carol, which is one of my faves.), but in an edition that would stand out proudly on anyone shelf.
I will, without a doubt, be going through this one, again, again and again.
A Christmas Carol by Lewis Carroll is a classic for a reason. Not only a meaningful read for children, but a meaningful one for adults. This book tells the classic story of the grumpy Ebenezer Scrooge who is visited by three ghosts in order to find happiness and find the joy of Christmas.
The illustrations by Lisbeth Zwerger are beautiful and this is a great edition to give children for the holiday season. Highly recommend this book for Christmastime!
I received this book free from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.
A Christmas Carol by Charles Dickens is classic for a reason. This book is best for children a little older, as it is more words than illustrations. It’s the story you know and love, pick this book up and it will be a treasure in your family on the holidays for years to come. I personally, found the illustrations a little lacking but overall this story is definitely still worth having in your home!
Aw it reminded of my childhood but in colors. This was something that mom and I used to read when I was a kid so seeing it now in colors made me nostalgic. I am yearning for the time when my kid would already appreciate things like this.
