"I Don't Have a Cat" by Contessa Hileman is an absolute gem of a children's book that had me giggling from start to finish. With its charming illustrations and endearing storyline, this book is a must-read for young readers and cat lovers alike!

The story follows a young boy and his mischievous feline friend as they navigate the ups and downs of daily life together. From being a food critic to a homework helper to a paper shredder, the cat brings endless excitement and chaos into the boy's world, much to his delight and dismay.

What I loved most about this book is its heartwarming message about friendship and acceptance. Despite the boy's protests that he doesn't have a cat, it's clear that the bond between them is unbreakable, and their adventures together are nothing short of magical.

The illustrations are vibrant and expressive, capturing the playful antics of the cat in delightful detail. Each page is brimming with energy and personality, making it impossible not to fall in love with the characters and their escapades.

At its core, "I Don't Have a Cat" is a joyful celebration of the special connections we share with our furry companions. It reminds us that sometimes the best friendships come in unexpected packages, and that love knows no bounds.

Overall, I found "I Don't Have a Cat" to be a delightful and heartwarming read that is sure to bring smiles to readers of all ages. Whether you're a cat lover or simply appreciate a good story, this book is a purr-fect addition to any library!

I love this book! I love that it teaches kids to look at things differently and see what they can be besides the obvious.

A little boy's cat causes disruption and chaos, but the little boy doesn't see that. He sees different types of things but not a cat. You find out later that it is not his cat, but one he found. This is a cute story about a boy's imagination and with the help of his family, tries to find the rightful owner of the cat.

Thank you Netgalley and Sasquatch Books/Little Bigfoot for the opportunity to read this book.

I Don't Have a Cat follows a young boy and a cat through his day. The cat is quite a destructive force throughout the day. The young boy sees the cat (kitten) quite differently and assigns him roles based on what it is doing such as: a paper shredder, food critic, wrecking ball, homework helper etc. As we get to the end we find out that his parents didn't know he found the cat and brought it home. It ends with the family putting up posters about a found cat, their rescue mission.

This was a cute book showing how a cat's antics are viewed differently through the eyes of someone who loves them. The repetitive nature of the text is great for little ones and would make a great story to read to develop vocabulary. The illustrations by Carolyn Conahan are cute. They are large and colourful, with action and emotion. They give great picture clues for the text. I definitely recommend this book to cat lovers.

Ok, now I'm a fan! I love this series of books by Contessa Hileman. I've read I Don't Have a Dog first and loved that one, too. Now I'm curious to see what she writes next. Thank you to NetGalley and Penguin Random House books for this ARC in exchange for my honest review.

This was really cute. All the antics the cat gets up to are things cats actually do so as a catmom this was hilarious. The art was wonderful as well. Cute story to tell kids.

I received an ARC from the publisher in return for an honest review.

Thanks to NetGalley and mostly to Contessa Hileman to provide me with an advanced copy of this wonderful book.

This story is about a homeless cat that came to his house and categorize everything it does and makes.

I think is a good story narrated by Contessa Hileman

The story and illustrations in this book are sure to delight anyone who is a cat lover. As someone who definitely does not have two cats, the antics and reasoning portrayed put a big smile on my face. Perfect for cat aficionados of any age.

'I Don't Have a Cat' follows a young boy, and the adventures he has with a cat.

Much like 'I Don't Have a Dog', I didn't enjoy this story due to it's blandness. I wasn't intrigued or interested, and it was really repetitive. However, although I wouldn't use this in a class setting (unless it's within EYFS). I am sure families and their young children would adore this book.

The illustrations are so childlike, and lovely.

Rated 1.5 stars

Thank you to netagllery for allowing me to read this adorably drawn book

I DON’T HAVE A CAT by Contessa Hileman is a children’s story book focusing on a young child who is telling the reader he does not have a cat but there is definitely a cat causing mischief in the child’s life. From shredding paper to hiding in drawers, the playful cat and their high jinks follows the child wherever he goes. In the end, the reader discovers the cat does not belong to the child but has make himself welcome in the child’s life.

The images are colorful and fun; the text is simple enough for a young reader or a young child’s bedtime story.

This was a cute story about a boy trying to hide a stray cat from his parents. I loved the artwork and I think this story would engage young children.

I have read a similar picture book before. That one was the dog version and I absolutely loved it.

And this! Now I am a cat mom of 2 cats and 2 kittens, I can definitely understand what the book is trying to illustrate.

I definitely love the artwork. I adore the characters. I appreciate the family vibes.

Love it.

Thank you, Sasquatch Books and Little Bigfoot, for the advance reading copy.

Review to come mid-february to my blog (and then to Goodreads/Amazon/etc.).

I received this book from Netgalley in exchange of an honest review.

So early January I read the I Don't Have a Dog book and absolutely adored it! At the end of January I decided it was high time to see if the I Don't Have a Cat book was also still on Netgalley, I kept forgetting to request it. Thankfully, it was still there and so I could see what kind of things the cat was up to~

In this adorable cute book we meet a tiny little kitty and their owner! The kitty isn't just a kitty, oh no. They are a space invader (the kid really loved space), they are a food critic (loved how cute the kitty played with the fruit), they are many things and I absolutely laughed my butt off, especially when the cat got in the bag and out at school! Oh my! The cat was such a cutie and dang it made me wish I didn't have allergies because I definitely would LOVE a kitty at home. One who can do all sorts of fun things along with being a cat.

The ending definitely came out of nowhere! I won't spoil anything, but I hadn't expected it to go that way. Now that I look back it makes sense, but for a first time read it was an ending out of the blue. I am glad however that the author didn't just end it there but made an extra illustration at the end with the dedication and the book information that made me go aww so much.

I loved that the family in the Dog's book was white and that the one in this book is black! Also whereas the Dog's book MC has a brother, this boy has a sister! I love those little details.

The art was once again very adorable!

All in all, if you are a cat lover you will adore this book! It will make you smile and laugh. It will make you go aww and squee! I would recommend this one to all!

In this book, the main character has a stray cat in his house. The cat does all sorts of mischievous things around the house. The little boy has to try to find the owner of the cat in the end of the book.

As an educator, I would use this book as a read aloud in my classroom. Most all students have pets and love to tell you about what the pets do around the house, The students will enjoy the illustrations and funny antics of the cat. After reading the book, you could have the students write a story about their own pet(s).

I think my dog looked a bit askance at me when I sat down to enjoy "I Don't Have a Cat". Dog probably uttered a "And we don't need one" under her breath but she humored me. It's been years since I've had a ca but this brought back memories. The artwork is humorous and shows a black family whose son secretly may not have a cat but he's harboring everything from a paper shredder to a food critic and stylist. Anyone who has had a four=legged stylist redo their hair knows that that last one means. My favorite, however, was the "secret agent". The non-cat is shown hidden in the boys backpack as he heads for the school bus. Once at school, mayhem happens. As a former teacher, I both laughed and groaned at the antics depicted, particularly as this non=existing cat bounced across the teacher's desk, bookshelves, and tables, scattering books and papers everywhere. That was one very efficient special agent feline, Given how much mayhem one "I don't have a cat" seems able to create, the ultimate questions is, will the boy's family allow him to keep it. Or, maybe a rescue mission to reunite it with its previous humans? Hmm, you'll have to read the book to find out. In the process many smiles and laughs will be generated. A fun, delightful read that shows not only how much fun a cat can be but how much trouble one can offer up, too, all the while having us root for this, uh, "I don't have a cat" boy. Children will love this one as will, I'm sure, many adult animal lovers.

I received an arc of the book from #SasquatchBooks via #NetGalley

Thanks to the publishers for sharing this one. It would be good for young readers who might be processing finding a stray cat they weren't allowed to keep. My full review appears on Weekend Notes.

Thank you to the author, Sasquatch Books and NetGalley, for an ARC in exchange for an honest review.

This children's book is a fun read, with great illustrations. A young boy discovers all the great and not-so-great propensities of felines - and it turns out he *does* have a cat, but it's not his and he hopes to convince his parents to let him keep it. The young kids I read this with were engaged and enjoyed its humor - and I found it a great conversation starter about pets and responsibility, as well as (more abstract) using expressive language.

Thank you to the Sasquatch Books and NetGalley for the advanced electronic review copy of this cute book. This adorable book is about a boy and a cat who is slowly destroying his room. The boy comes up with inventive ways to describe the little terror He keeps insist that he doesn’t have a cat but instead has a food critic, a space cadet, a homework helper, etc until the boy’s parents agree to let him keep the little, adorable ball of fur. This is a wonderful book with beautiful illustrations that children would greatly enjoy.

This was a cute book and it reminded me of the majority of the cats we had when I was growing up (we somehow always ended up adopting neighborhood strays). The illustrations were fun and the sentences were short, making it a great read-along book.

This delightful story features a young boy and a frisky, adorable, cuddly cat who has inserted itself into the boy's world and is causing some mayhem wherever it goes.

The story documents a day when the boy and cat intersect and the reader learns that the boy denies having the cat. The boy deliberately uses other terms to label the rambunctious little feline. He refers to it as a food critic, a paper shredder, a stylist, a homework helper, and a space invader just to name a few but definitely NOT a cat!

A lovely surprise is unveiled at the end as the boy openly admits to his family the truth ... he doesn't really have the cat. It just magically appeared one day and he took it in so therefore it's not technically his. He proceeds to convince his parents to let him keep it. Will he be successful and will the sweet cat find a new forever home?

The illustrations are wonderful. They are lively, detailed and animate the text perfectly. The story is clever and imaginative. I'm sure it will spark conversations about rescue animals and adopting them. Both young and old will love the book and I highly recommend it. It's from the series " I Don't Have."
