I received an ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review.
This is cute! I thought it would probably be the same book as I Don't Have a Dog. But, you know, with a cat. And it kind of is. But there's a sweet little twist at the end that makes it its own story.
Cute little book. I love the illustrations. The only thing I could say is some of the wording will make it a higher level for the older kids, but the book seems geared toward the younger elementary school kids.
This is the cute story of a boy who finds a cat and describes all of their fun adventures as a function of who the cat is, I loved the illustration and the story was true to the nature of an indoor house cat. My toddler who had a cat thought it was very funny. Heartwarming ending.
Thank you to NetGalley and Sasquatch Books for access to this ARC!
A cute story about a boy and his cat. I loved how different this was from I don't have a dog. This one is about a cat who jumps into the little boys life and learns to be apart of the family.
Companion to I don't have a dog, I don't have a cat follows the same narrative trajectory until a twist at the end. I, again, love the soft, playful illustrations, the normal routines of a child's day, and the rambunctiousness of cats. It is clear the author and illustrator both understand kids and their animals! Another must have for the library collection. Get it for the furry friend love and for the stellar vocabulary.

A clever and cute book!
It has different imaginative ways to look at a cat as a pet. There are fun illustrations and the concept is simple. There are a couple of easily explained terms. Would recommend it for cat lovers!
This was all kinds of adorable and fun!
The artwork is fantastic, and I loved the simple, yet wonderful story.
Cats are amazing, and I love that this story shows how fun and energetic cats can be, while also being so very imaginative at the same time.
An absolute must have!
I read this book with my four-year-old daughter and she loved it! We read it right after the Dog book and she loved them both the same – very diplomatic there!
The illustrations in the book are lovely and they really suited the story.
It was well written and easy to follow, I read it with my daughter at bedtime last night and she enjoyed it from start to finish – perfect read for her and she is right in the target age range for the book and we loved that he was a bit naughty!
It is 5 stars from me for this one, a wonderful book that we both really enjoyed – very highly recommended!
I Don't Have a Cat is an adorably illustrated picture book about a cat that sneaks into a boy's window, creating havoc and distractions all day as the boy carries the cat with him. Although the boy wants to keep the cat, he does the right thing and puts up posters trying to find the owner. The illustrations are cute and funny, and children are sure to giggle at the cat's antics.
This books is cute and is truthful about cats mannerisms. Cat people and their children will be able to relate! This sweet book is about a boy hiding a stray cat. The illustrations are colorful and cheerful! This would be a great addition for a family that has a cat or a preschool/daycare setting!
*****I received an ARC from NetGalley, the publisher, and the author, in turn for my honest review.
This book is adorable! It has great illustrations and the pictures will spark lots of conversation between a parent and child. It has advanced vocabulary that can be easily explained to a child so it will also help develop vocabulary. It’s pure fun and is the kind of book that can be read over and over again. Highly recommended.
We don't have a cat - we have an unexpected guest showing up quite often at our back door. Not that we mind.
We are definitely a cat family, so my 3.5yo daughter was happy to see this book on our virtual bookshelf. She could relate to most of the situations even though she was not familiar with concepts like a food critic or a space invader. Maybe this book is better suited for an older kid.
Many thanks to NetGalley and Sasquatch Books for an Advance Review Copy.
A cat sneaks into a young boy's room and, as he tries to hide it from his parents he assigns it lots of funny code names like "food critic" and "undercover secret agent". He enjoys the cat, despite his spiritedness and tendency towards mild destruction, and hopes to convince his parents to let him keep it.
There is a lot of repetition in the text which would make this a great first book for newly independent readers. It could also spark some good beginning discussions about metaphors and expressive language. The story is cute and will engage young kids. The illustrations are lively and detailed and really help bring the story to life. This would be great for pre-K and elementary school and classroom libraries!
Many thanks to the publisher and NetGalley for the opportunity to read and review!
