. Finally Runes story!
I have been waiting to see what kind of woman he would end up with, and Hayden is definitely his perfect match. She is strong, determined, and independant.. However when her father tells her that if anything goes wrong to go to Rune, so when her parents are taken prisoner thats exactly what she does.. She doesn't count on having to scale a mountain for days to find him, or that he might not believe her..
Rune has been through ALOT.. He is on the run.. even from his old team, who thinks he turned rogue and traitor.. but he will do anything in his power to help those under his protection.. and now Hayden is counted as one of those.. Along their journey to rescue her parents they encounter other dragons, a succubus, and have to go and see his old team to ask for help, he also happens to be catching some feelings for Hayden. Thankfully it seems she is beginning to feel the same way..
There is alot of action, and awsome dragon fights.. . Some explosive chemistry and sexy times.. and I loved that Rune found a woman that is perfect for him.. I can't wait to see what happens next with the dragons in the Inferno Rising series!
So many stars. You guys…you guys….you guys….Rune’s book is finally here, (jumps up and down) and he did not disappoint. I have been patiently (shakes head) waiting for this book f-o-r-e-v-e-r, seriously so long. From the first page to the last page this was non-stop, the storyline was fantastic. Rune Abbadon will you be my mate? Actually, no need to ask, I’m just going to stake my claim, he’ll respect it more😉. And here’s why I love me some Rune:
1. I love that he steps up and always does the right thing.
2. I love that he literally doesn’t hold anything back
3. I love that he doesn’t apologize for who he is…even when it goes against everybody else
4. I love that he is protective of those that can’t protect themselves
5. And lastly, I don’t know if he can cook…but I am willing to overlook that because of how passionate he is.
Yup this one is mine, there are plenty of other unmated dragons to go around, this one is taken. No sandwhich here, because I ain’t sharing. #MyRune. I did really love Haydn for him too, instant chemistry with these two, and she is a little firecracker, his words, and very true. It was refreshing seeing the always controlled Rune lose control over the little firecracker pixie. And he always calls her love, Rune Abbadon calls someone love…awweeeee, this guy. She comes looking for him on his mountain, and yes she is a human that physically climbs the mountain to find him. Hence the respect he and his dragon has for their little firecracker. Hadyn had been raised by dragons, so she isn’t fazed a bit by Rune or his dragon, doesn’t hesitate or anything. Her dragon parents trust him, so she does too. And when they get themselves in a few situations, she doesn’t hesitate to help too, regardless of the consequences, she was actually kind of a badass too, without wings, she adjusted accordingly. Her dragon parents trained her well.
I love getting lost in this world. This storyline was fantastic, so much happens from cover to cover. Rune and Hadyn are fantastic. So much heat between these two, insatiable, and of course my Rune is a dirty talker…I should probably add that as number 6 *winks*. Cab wild ride shenanigans. The whole Huracan team are fantastic. We get to read about all of them in this book, and I couldn’t get enough. This series is fantastic…seriously, I can’t say enough about it, or get enough of it, or Abigail Owen’s writing. Such a huge fan. This book had all the emotions too, I even sobbed for a hot second. I lost a lot of sleep reading this book #WorthIt. Much deserved epilogue and hea.
This was an interesting book. Rune and Haydn are both basically on the run. The council has been after Rune for awhile and now he and his allies take a stand. It’s a battle and seeing the progression sets up for a fascinating next book. The romance was sweet and sexy. As usual all of the other characters helped you get into the world of dragons. It’s a fascinating world with so many potential battles. This was another great addition to the series.
Another fantastic book filled with plenty of action and romance. It seemed appropriate that this series ends with Rune's story. He has been labeled a traitor for standing up to the evil factions in the Alliance and has been a one man show since being forced to leave his team, fighting for what he believes in. Hayden was to be a dragon mate but always believed her true mate died when she was a child and she was then raised by dragon parents. It was actually refreshing for a mate to have full understanding of the dragon world, and her abilities to climb and fight that were taught to her by her dragon parents made her one tough cookie. I admired how when she decided something needed to be done, she went and did it. She didn't wait around for someone to save her and she knew she needed help to save her parents and decided to climb Rune's mountain to find him. From there they are on a non-stop adventure while fighting their attraction for each other. The final battle was thrilling and unpredictable, as was most of the book. I had trouble putting it down once starting.
I enjoyed the interactions with Rune's team and was glad that he finally gets some vindication and acceptance in this book. The traitor becomes a hero through his honor and his deeds and eventually he gets his HEA with his mate.
I know this is my failing, but I can't read a story until I read the books before it.
This is a standalone, but knowing the other stories helps this one make sense.
Enjoyable story.
3.5 STARS
Rune Abbadon has lost his stronghold where he had been protecting women where to be dragon mates as well as other renegades from the corrupt Alliance who work for the pretender to the dragon throne. After rejecting the crooked system of dragon government, Rune vowed to work against them even if it meant being a pariah to his own kind. Now Rune is being hunted with a high bounty on his head. When he returns to the South American mountain fortress, Rune gets a big surprise.
Haydn Reece was once of those fated mates who in her case, met her dragon at a young age only to lose him and her parents when they were taken out by the bad dragons. She was then raised by her lost mate’s shifter parents because the women who become mates are not quite human and need training plus the fact she was orphaned. When the Alliance captures her foster parents, Haydn heads for the only man she knows who can help get them back: the moody, broody gruff dragon of a man Rune Abaddon
Haydn may not be a shifter, but she has trained hard with her dragon parents to become smart and agile. Rune initially resists any attraction to Haydn believing that they could not have a future because Haydn had a mate but lost him early on. Rune’s dragon however has other ideas about Haydn and who she is to them.
In this last story of the Fire Edge series, allies come together to help defeat the Alliance, or at least, significantly reduce their numbers. There is still the evil king to overthrow which is part of the concurrent series, Inferno Rising. Together Rune and Haydn fight for their lives and their people setting the stage for the final battle.
I adore this series and the world Abigail Owen has created in it. I have been waiting for Rune's book - so my review may be a little biased - but this book did not disappoint.
Rune was labeled a traitor and rogue among his time a long time ago when he was among the first to figure out that those in charge were abusing their roles and harming potential mates. He took steps, when no one else would, to protect those who couldn't protect themselves. As a result he's been on his own and in hiding - protecting other ever since. Hadyn was identified as a potential dragon mate at a very very young age. Unfortunately her fated mate died before she was old enough to be fully mated (when she was 10). Since that time she's been on the run with her adoptive family and living between two worlds. She goes to Rune for help after her adoptive parents are kidnapped.
I loved how Rune and Hadyn formed such a solid connection - even knowing in their world that she wouldn't live as long as he would. They were pretty freaking adorable together. And very very very sexy.
I am not sure this is the best book to start the series with - you could - because everything is pretty well explained, but I think reading other books in the series would really help with context and understanding the world. Plus - its worth it!
I received this as an ARC from NetGalley, but these opinions are all my own.
This was a very well-written, entertaining book. It was steamy, fast-paced and snarky. It held my interest and I didn't want to put it down. I came to really like the characters. This book is part of a series, though it can be read as a standalone story. I haven't read any other books in this series and I enjoyed it. I will look for more books in this series as well as other books by this author.
I've loved this series since I read the first, The Boss and have been reading each one as it has come out since. Sadly, The Traitor is the last in this series, although there is still the final book to go in the related Inferno Rising series. As much as I loved this book, and I really did, I'm sad that we've come to the end.
This final installment deals with Rogue Dragon Rune Abaddon, he's been in all of the previous books in one role or another, starting out as a character that wasn't trusted due to him going rogue, leading on to the others realizing that what he stood for and had done was actually the right thing to do.
He finally meets his match in Hadyn Reece, a human woman destined to be a dragon mate, until that destiny was ripped away from her. She has spent most of her life since she was a child being raised by dragons, so understands far more about them than most humans. She's brave, strong, and doesn't take any overbearing male dragon attitude, exactly what Rune needs.
I've liked Rune as a character from the beginning and it was great to see him finally get the mate that he needs. He and Hadyn are perfect together.
I did have a couple of little questions, but they weren't anything major. There's also a link to one of the connected series; Brimstone Inc, which I don't remember being mentioned before, but perhaps I just missed it, I've read all of the books.
As I said, I'm really sad to be leaving all of this behind. There are still some characters that I would love to see get their story. I can always hope that we might get that someday? I think that the major story arch that has unfolded across this series and the Inferno Rising books are drawing to a close.
I've really enjoyed these books, in case you can't tell. I can't wait to see what Abigale Owen has for us next.
I received a complimentary copy of this book through NetGalley. The opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.
The Traitor is the latest installment in the steamy, dragon shifter series Fire's Edge. Outcast and rogue shifter, Rune Abaddon turned his back on being an enforcer for his people to save innocent women from forced mating and certain death. Most people know he's a force to be reckoned with but human Hadyn Reece is not most people. After her adoptive parents are kidnapped, Hadyn seeks out Rune to help her mount a rescue mission. The danger ramps up and the sparks fly as Rune finds love under seemingly impossible conditions and shows his people what a hero he really is. Sweet and steamy with some shadows of heartbreak, Hadyn and Rune battle their way to a feel good HEA. The series' continuing story arc with the phoenixes is mentioned here but takes a backseat to the Rune and Hadyn's story. Overall, the story is a fast-paced, heat flash inducing addition to the winning dragon shifter series that will always keep you coming back for more. My voluntary, unbiased review is based upon a review copy from Netgalley.
ARC received for review
Rune has been "stealing" mates for years and the Council is out to get him. Hayden, a mate, comes to him for help. Together they take a stand with the rest of the good guys in the America's. Lots of drama, angst, friends, and sexy times. Now what's going to happen with the kings?
Rune is a rogue dragon shifter, he protects unmated humans, and the crap has hit the fans. He has a bounty on his head and his hideout has been discovered. While checking his last safe house, he finds Hadyn, she’s scaling his mountain. Hadyn is a human raised by rogue dragons after her parents are killed. The dragons that took her in, their son was supposed to be Hadyn’s fated mate. But he is killed the same time as her parents. Now her parents have been taken and Rune is who her father always said to contact. At first he thinks she’s a trap but slowly believes her story. After some close calls, even though Rune cannot change Hadyn, he puts her under his protection. Rune gets his former team to help and then it’s one wild ride after the other.
There was some parts that was horribly confusing but once you get past that, I couldn’t put it down. So much action and steamy sex. Be prepared.
* Voluntarily read and reviewed this for NetGalley *
Though this could be read as a stand alone, I don't recommend it as it's part of a complex world and Rune has been in the background for a while, and now it is his turn for his story to be told. Haydn is a good foil to his damaged psyche. She carries her own scars and with her tenacity and drive she was the right personality for him.
Even though I knew they would end up mates I thought the explanation with Kip's long ago death and her HEA with Rune was a bit hand wavy. However that didn't diminish the dramatic moment where they realized they were fated.
I am really looking forward to the crossover Inferno's Rising to answer the lingering questions.
I received an advanced reader's copy of The Traitor by Abigail Owen from the publisher via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.
I have read other books by Abigail Owen before and have liked all of them, so I had high expectations for this novel. Happily, I was not disappointed. This was another home run and quite enjoyable.
Overall, I felt this was a solid novel and I found it to be well written. The plot was engaging and the pacing moved swiftly. I appreciated how nicely crafted the main characters were - orphan Hadyn Reece and thought-to-be-traitor Rune Abaddon - and I loved their interactions from the start. They were well matched, complemented each other perfectly, and the chemistry between them was wicked hot.
Action scenes were well paced and the plot of this series took a big leap forward at the end. Can’t wait for the next book!
Title: The Traitor
Author: Abigail Owen
Publication date: August 16th, 2021
Series: Fire's Edge #5
Summary: Decades ago, rogue dragon shifter Rune Abaddon took a stand against the decaying, corrupt systems governing their people. He now uses his bad-ass reputation to protect the innocent as it all comes crashing down. But he’s pushed the limits one too many times. His hideout is destroyed, his few allies are scattered and hiding, and the Alliance has placed a dead-or-alive bounty on his head, making him the most wanted dragon in the western hemisphere.
And then the most enticing woman he’s ever met barges into his mountain, demanding an audience.
Hadyn Reece's future was ripped away long ago. The man fated to be her mate was murdered alongside her parents before Hadyn was old enough to be turned, leaving her to be raised and trained by her dead mate’s parents in the dragon shifter world. Now, the Alliance has come for the only family she has left. It’s a good thing she was raised by dragons, because the only one who can help her save them is a traitor she’d be smart to fear.
Especially when his dragon decides she’s theirs.
Review: Some parts of this book I really loved, other parts had me just skimming. It made me really want to read the Firelight series again. I really enjoyed the bit with the succubus, however it happened really quickly and didn't seem to connect. But it is possible that by that point in the book I just couldn't focus long enough for it to connect like it was supposed. In general I loved Rune and I loved how Hadyn was basically a mind reader to him. Unfortunately this is definitely a novel I won't read again or continue the series. I love shifter books especially with dragons but this one just didn't do it for me.
I'm probably a bit biased because I absolutely love this author and series! And I've been waiting for Rune's, there's been a bit of mystery since we first introduced to him books ago. As many saw him as a traitor to his pack/family/friends, there were secrets he kept for the better of the dragon shifters and unmated mates.
Haydn is the absolute best, I've really enjoyed Abigail's heroines and I think many will love her. She's definitely not quite what I expected, but she's perfect for Rune. I loved all their interactions and she's always speaking her mind and doesn't care who it is, Rune included.
With Rune being as loyal as they come to his kind, I liked seeing his tough walls slowly get taken down by Haydn. They're perfectly matched and ugh, just EVERYTHING.
From the ever so sweet burning fire between them, throw in some suspense and action, it's an absolute winner.
With Fire's Edge just about wrapped up, I'm eager to cross back over to the Inferno Rising series. Still some questions thst need to be answered and I can't wait.
What a great read this was! Hayden is such a complex individual with attitude. She certainly Ser Rune back on his heels... Again and again. Loved the ending!
Rating ~3.5
Just a good, fun ride!
A sweet and sexy romance between two individuals who desperately try to fight their attraction to each other.
Characters:
Hayden:
Smart, empathic, and headstrong, she never lets the fact that she is human, stop her from doing everything in her power to help the dragon parents' she loves. That determination results in her arriving at Rune's doorstep. Thanks to her upbringing she knows far more about dragon-kind than a mortal should. And so, she is not the least bit bothered or intimidated by Rune's tough exterior. She sees past the armor to the man underneath.
Rune: "The Traitor"
He is villainized by many of his kind for keeping mates from the mating council, and supposedly stealing them for himself. But nothing could be further from the truth. Though his methods might leave something to be desired, he is well-intentioned, doing what he believed to be right even if the rest of his kind held it against him. He's essentially always been a martyr, sacrificing himself and his reputation for the greater good. It is only after meeting Hayden that he finally seems to want something for himself.
Hayden spent almost her whole life with the knowledge that she'd lost her mate long before he could claim her. Rune, jaded by the truth of a corrupt system and the sting of betrayal, was never looking for a mate. But, naturally, fate had other plans for them both.
Overall, yet another entertaining edition to this straight-forward, HEA guaranteed, shifter series
Oh my goodness. This book is everything. It was a masterpiece of suspense and romance. I knew where the story needed to go but I was not sure how we were going to get there. Fortunately, the journey was even better than I expected. Expect to feel all the things while reading this book - expect to swoon, to bite your nails, and to cry. The Traitor has a little bit of everything - sweet moments, fan your face steamy sex, dangerous excitement, cut throat and loyal supernatural creatures, and even some chuckles, all set against the backdrop of a continuing conflict in the dragon world. I love a book that includes a grumpy, tortured hero or a capable self-rescuing heroine and this book includes both. Rune, is a rogue dragon who has made it his personal mission to go against the dragon counsel and save unmated dragon mates. He believed in his cause enough to abandon his team of dragon enforcers decades ago and become a hated dragon. Rune feels like he is so unworthy even though he’s not. He’s a good guy and you just know love will let him see he’s such a kind, sweet, good guy who deserves all the good things. Hayden is a dragon mate whose fated mate died when she was a child before they were mated. Her adopted rogue dragon parents have recently been captured, imprisoned and are awaiting execution. Hayden is more than capable on her own for most things but this is beyond her so she turns to Rune to help her save them. On their way to their HEA while trying to stay one step ahead of their enemies, Rune and Hayden have to both learn to let down their walls - to let go of their pasts and where they thought they were supposed to go in order to embrace a life neither one thought was possible for themselves. With The Traitor, Abigail Owens once again proves she’s a fantastic world builder and story weaver. While the book is a standalone, there is an overarching story arc that threads through the series so they are best read in order. And while this book is the end of this series, the dragon conflict and war continues in the parallel Inferno Rising series.
