When I think of romance, I think of books just like this one, that gives all the feels and satisfies every romance junkies' heart. This is a perfect books to snuggle up with on any day. This one took by surprise! Throw in a little historic content. Yes!
Silver Bells, by Heather Boyd. This is an awesome way to start the holiday season with a wonderful holiday romantic read. Ruby, Hector, Pip and Alex were wonderful in this book. I was smiling and enjoying myself. I absolutely loved how Ruby and Hector come to meet.
Their journey together definitely made this book a treat to read. At times Hector was funny, adorable and sweet, but other times he was on a mission for love. I liked that Ruby was not a whimpering violet. She was a mom who had to stay strong for the survival of her son. Some of the characters were very interesting witty and other characters were mysterious and vindictive.
I really liked how the I gotcha moments all came together at the end. Until next time my fellow readers… read on!
Silver Bells by Heather Boyd

What a nice way to get away from it all today by reading a heartwarming romance with a happily ever after. Not too long and not too short…just right in every way.
What I liked:
* Ruby: married for love, lost her family, had a son, then lost her husband only to have to worry about how to keep herself and her son safe. Her choices were limited but she did the best she could with what she had.
* Hector: a scoundrel with a heart of gold. Charming, a good brother, wealthy, a lord, not in the market for a wife…until he was. I liked him.
* Pip: Ruby’s son: a typical four-year-old boy loved by his mother and able to charm Hector.
* Parker: Hector’s valet, an ex-soldier, wiser than most, a great defender, looked out for Hector and those Hector cared about
* Samuel Blackwell: I kind of would like to know more about him and wonder if he had a book of his own in this series.
* That the bad guys didn’t get away with their evil schemes
* That the story, though short, had everything required in a romance.
What I didn’t like:
* Mr. Roper: Ruby’s father-in-law was someone to get away from as soon as possible.
* Vyne: reprehensible and alone due to his choices

Could she manage to keep her beloved son?
I loved this short but simple story. It had all the elements of an excellent novella and still had concern for the care of the child in the tale. Lord Southwick had come to the Vynes to spend Christmas with his sister but she had not come yet. But his childhood playmate
Had come. But not for Christmas, she was running away from her father-in-law who wanted to marry her off and keep her son. Her husband had died a year ago and now she had no protection. So she gathered what few things pip and she had and she ran.
The characters were wonderful and actually kind to each other. The interactions were
Eye-opening and secrets spilled out. I do recommend this amazing book.
I received this ARC from Net Galley and voluntarily reviewed it.
Lord Hector Stockwick came to the Vynes to spend Christmas with his sister, but she has yet to arrive. Ruby Roper, a widow, has come to the Vynes in hope that her uncle will protect her and her young son. Childhood friends, Hector and Ruby renew their acquaintance. He also befriends Ruby’s son Pip. When he realizes that Uncle’s plans for Ruby and Pip are less than honorable, he is determined to protect both of them. Can he keep them safe? Will Ruby trust him? Silver Bells is a lovely Christmas story. There is a bit of everything - drama, mystery, betrayal, twists and turns, surprises, and romance. Hector, Ruby, and Pip fit together perfectly. Pip is an active happy child. Lord Vynes is a bitter man who wants only to use Ruby to settle a debt. Boy, does he get a surprise. I enjoyed and recommend this quick entertaining read. What happened to the silver bell? That’s a surprise, too.
I received an ARC of this book from the publisher via NetGalley. My review is voluntary.
Widowed a year, Ruby Roper must flee her Scotland home when she discovers her father-in-law plans to marry her off—and keep her only son Pip. Running to her uncle finds her in an equally undesirable situation, surrounded by silent servants and mounting secrets. There she meets Hector, he’s travelled to The Vynes to meet his sister Meg & her husband Clements. The pair knew each other as children but had a falling out when Ruby believed Hector had stolen her silver bell.
A delightful short story, which I read in a sitting, I loved both Ruby & Hector & how hey rekindle their friendship which rapidly deepens into love. Hector certainly wasn’t a scoundrel as he sought to protect both Ruby & Pip
My honest review is for a special copy I voluntarily read
I enjoyed this story of Ruby & Hector. Ruby is a widow looking for protection for her & her son, Pip from her former father-in-law. Hector is a scoundrel (his words) not looking to settle down. They both end up at her uncle’s house (Hector’s sister married the uncle’s son). They had met as children & Ruby was holding a grudge against him because she thought he took a precious item from her…a silver bell.. This is a great quick read.
Thanks to the publisher & NetGalley for advanced copy in exchange for honest review
Finished this one in 1 day! It was a cute story about a 2nd chance for our heroine to find true love again as a widow. Our hero needed to get a grip and accept that committing to this woman would bring him happiness. It was thrilling to see them come together, in spite of the forces against them. This is a quick summer, feel-good read! Grab something cool and enjoy!
This was sweet historical fiction novella. It was easy to read and, despite its length, I still felt connected to the characters. I loved Hector, Pip, and Ruby. I’m glad Pip abs Ruby got their HEA after all they’d been through.

Widowed Ruby seeks safety for herself and her son at her uncle’s home. Hector, a visiting rake, steps in to protect her from managing relatives who want to take her child away and marry her off. I received an ARC from NetGalley and Victory Editing NetGalley Co-op for my honest review.
Silver Bells has several sweet surprises for Ruby. Living out widowhood with in-laws who do not want her around any longer, Ruby finds her mother-in-law to not ‘hate’ her as much as she thought. When her father-in-law plans to marry her off, Ruby realizes she has to leave quickly and take her son with her.
Arriving at her uncle’s home, Ruby asks for shelter. An unexpected guest is staying there, Hector. He is her cousin’s brother-in-law with whom she had a semi-antagonistic relationship as children. Ruby still blames him for stealing a cherished gift of a silver bell gifted to her from her grandfather.
Hector, too, was a surprise. He was not a likeable hero at first as he seems very ‘lordly.’ He literally gripes at his servant for not being enough, for approaching him too quietly, for not getting the servant gossip, then for making too much noise. Although that went on for the first half of the novella, Hector redeemed himself well. He comes to care for Ruby and her son, Pip, in a charming and serious way.
This is the first Heather Boyd romance for me. Characters were well-developed and likeable once Hector showed his real self. Ruby is adorable and a loving mother. I liked her loyalty to her deceased husband and his family despite her father-in-law’s attitude. Even her final words to her uncle were above reproach.
A wonderful feel good story! It’s a novella that you can read is one sitting. Being near Christmas, Hector has travelled to the Vynes to meet up with his sister and her husband, his best friend. Being the only guest there and his host is totally ignoring him, He takes to window watching waiting for his sister arrival.
The carriage that finally pulls up has a woman and young child disembark, which peaks his curiosity.
Ruby is widowed and lives with her in-law’s and young son Pip. Her father-in-law decides he is tired of the burden of Ruby and has arranged a marriage, but will keep Pip. With help from her mother-in-law she escapes to her uncle’s. There she makes a deal with her uncle to keep Pip safe. Meeting Hector they realize they knew each other as children and a friendship is renewed. Of course her uncle has other plans for Ruby. There are few couple of mysteries, a lot of story in so few pages!
