‘My dog is worn out and my house is clean!’
So, I listen to my audio books with headphones whilst walking with Zoe, my guide dog, and doing household chores.
This amazing debut book, One Night Only by Catherine Walsh, certainly gave me all good reasons to do so. I couldn’t stop reading /listening! I was literally hooked from the opening line ‘ there's someone in my bed’. The fun and laughter started from the get go and did not stop!
After throwing out her latest one night stand (despite his efforts to stay), Sarah forfilled plans to jet off to her best friend Annie’s, wedding in Ireland.
Sarah lives in New York City with her friend Claire. Sarah & Claire are friends and straight away the friendship is clearly understood when claire announces ‘this always happens when they plan a run!’ referring to Sarah’s repeated one night stands.
Sarah then finds ‘one night stands’ watch whilst packing, and leaves Claire with instructions for him to collect in her absence! (Already laughing so much at this early point!)
Sarah arrives in the charming Irish countryside where she is surrounded by many several quirky characters and her worst nightmare is unveiled as Paul, her bestie friend Annie’s groom, introduces his brother Declan to Sarah. Not even recognising his name she looks up to discover it's none other than the said one night stand! What are the chances!
Horrifyingly, she attempts to discourage public acknowledgement by either of them. However, after more family wedding boozy antics, without success! Revealed oh so subtly!
I must add the pre wedding is hilarious and literally full of laugh out loud moments! You cant help but love Declan more and more!
The connection between Declan and Sarah begins to develop despite resistance and sarah's denial.
Returning home to New York City without a goodbye from Declan reveals unexpected feelings Sarah didn't think possible!
Meanwhile , fate, coincidence and with Declan’s persistence throws them together in several situations. Declan is amazing I really loved his character.
Sarah unravels her heart gradually revealing her hurtful past. Little does she know declan has a few surprising skeletons of himself!
Declan discovered Sarah works as an architect and they find themselves thrown together on a strictly professional level. Yeah ok... 🤣
The office story and set up is so real and I can just relate to all of the characters in the workplace. If only I had a will Their friendship is adorable.
I loved every part of this ever unfolding story. Even down to the speed dating charity night. So many angles and never predictable!
I can’t give enough praise to the author. the friendships between all the characters were so relatable.
This book is full of laughs, fun and perfect rom com / chick lit for any occasion. I did not want it to end and I hope and pray that there is another novel soon by Catherine.
I would defo welcome a follow up just to see Mathias get his comeuppance!
The narration by jessica Regan, is simply superb. performing the various characters and distinguishingly switching Irish / New York City accents easily, defo makes this audio version come to life.
I must comment on one aspect that appears to be a thing. On reading previous reviews (which I do hope does not prevent the enjoyment of future readers.) there have been many comments regarding one early specific comment in this novel...
On arrival to Ireland, Annie and Paul are with Sarah and Paul confesses his first sexual experience which happened to be at the hotel of the prospective marriage in Ireland. he was only 17 and she was 20. Also a guest at the hotel. Gasps from all our US listeners has seemed to cause controversy. However, to us Brits and Europeans this statement does not cause concern. Completely legal for 17 olds! Also it included paul ‘only lasting 2 minutes’ and did not offend but instead made me laugh even more! Sorry friends!
Thank you to Catherine Walsh, Jessica Regan, audio bookouture and netgalley for my advanced audio copy of this book I am truly grateful the best I’ve listened to this year!
Recommend as a must read for all chicklit fans!
Im now I’m off to give the dog a rest.

I enjoyed this romcom. The only complaint I have about the audiobook is that the Irish narrator sometimes slipped when she read for an American character. Both the main characters were fun, but I did feel like it went on a little too long. A fun quick listen/read.
This is one deliciously sweet RomCom that actually made me laugh out loud. The chemistry between our main characters is electric and their banter is hilarious. Declan made me Actually snort at times with the way he messes with Sarah. But also the way he is clearly mad about her, but respects her boundaries while she insists on pushing him away is so incredibly Swoonworthy. These two might be my new favorite RomCom couple.
And if you want a real delight, listen to the audiobook…the Irish accents are breathtaking for an American girl like me!!
I thought this was a solid debut novel from Catherine Walsh. The narration was excellent. If you love an Irish accent, audio is the way to go with this one.
The character development throughout was great and I just loved Declan’s humor. The chemistry that the characters had was so good and I found myself smiling throughout the whole book.
The middle drug a little for me but it picked back up and had me needing to know what would happen next.
Overall, a really cute and fun summer read!
Listening to the audiobook, all I kept thinking is that this could totally me a rom-com movie! You can’t help but want Declan and Sarah to end up together. Every character had a great role to play in the potential love story for the main characters. Loved the narrator, especially when it came to the Irish accent!
Sarah and Declan sleep together at the very beginning of the book. Sarah wants to move on to the next one night stand, but Declan takes an interest in Sarah and proves hard for Sarah to forget as they soon learn that Declan is the brother of Sarah's best friend's fiance! I loved the tie in to the secondary plot line of the wedding in Ireland and the family "drama" surrounding that. So will Sarah and Declan end up together? Press play on this book to find out! Thank you to NetGalley and Bookouture Audio for a copy of this audiobook for an honest review.
One Night Only by Catherine Walsh 🎧
I think I chose this one based solely on the fact that it has a wedding in Ireland. I love listening to audiobooks with Irish or Scottish characters. I was so happy that it turned out to be such a charming story.
The story starts out the morning after Sarah has a one night stand. This guy who she can’t get out of her apartment fast enough ends up being her best friends future brother in law. So cue a lot of awkward and hilarious interactions. I really loved the characters and although they could be slightly frustrating I found them all relatable and entertaining.
I hope you check this one out! It was published on July 30th. Thank you to @netgalley and @bookouture for my copy!

I listened to this book as an audiobook, which at the moment is my preferred format for contemporary novels and it was one that I really enjoyed. I feel with a contemporary audiobook, I'm able to get really immersed into the universe of the characters, and they're not overly complicated books so I can easily follow along whilst doing something else at the same time (usually working).
I loved the story of Sarah and Declan, the writing and writing style were great and, for me, the characters made the book as brilliant as it was. The progression and development of the characters was fantastic, and they were all so loveable. Before anyone makes a comment on this, *I know* it's a work of fiction, but there were parts where I found the plot to be somewhat unbelievable. Sarah and Declan kept bumping into each other like it was a huge coincidence, but I think in reality that is somewhat unrealistic. This slight illogic to the book is what knocked it down to 4 stars. However, despite this I was still entertained from the first page to the last
I really enjoyed this second-chance romance about a woman who does exclusively hook-ups, and a man who just may change that. Perhaps one wedding night will be enough to change the habits she holds so dear... and perhaps her life, forever.
The chemistry was written so well between these two, and I was rooting for them the whole book. I did find the main character to be a bit annoying about men, which probably stems from her issues with her ex, however that didn't take her any less annoying at times. I felt as though the dynamic between the two was a bit unbalanced at times: the love interest was sweet where the main character would be rude for seemingly no reason.
I also felt as though the plot was very stereotypical, and the two characters lacked the depth and quirks that make so many romances above average (ie Emily Henry, Casey McQuiston.)
Despite this, I really enjoyed listening to the book. The narrator did a great job, and listening with the Scottish accents really adds ambiance to the story. 5 star audiobook, 3.5 star book.
I really enjoyed this book. It had a fresh way of being narrated fast pace and the story was said with lots of humor, which added to it being pleasant. I've listened to the audiobook and I really enjoyed all the narrators. Especially the Irish accent. It's definitely a book/audiobook I would recommend.
This was a fun romp across continents.
Sarah was a very fun main character - I liked her one-night policy, and how she wasn't ashamed of being a sexual person. There are some disaster moments where I wanted to shake her by the shoulders, and she definitely makes a mistake when she comes back to New York, but
Declan is a hoot - he's funny and witty and dry, and he gets up to some antics. I do admit that I was on the fence about him at first, but by the end I was a full supporter of our couple together.
I liked the mix of Ireland and New York - the stark contrast between the settings fed into the contrast between the characters
This is a fun summer romance to fill your heart with love and give you a laugh.
It had me from the blurb but then it’s gives you Ireland, Irish accents and New York - some of my favourite things. To top it all off who doesn’t love an Irishman in New York. As I listened I loved how you could really picture what it would be like to live in New York. Each of the characters are the type of people you want in your group of friends. Sarah takes no prisoners and I loved her straight talking attitude and Declan… ah Declan I might just marry him if I wasn’t already married. I think Catherine Walsh did such a good job portraying his character as he’s exactly what you expect a typical Irishman to be like. So glad I choose it on audio as it was great to hear the Irish accents and sayings and there was a few laugh out loud moments. Really enjoyed it.
Thanks to Netgalley and Bookouture Audio for the opportunity to listen to and review this ARC thats due to be published on the 30th if July.
#OneNightOnly by #CatherineWalsh may have just unleashed a hopeless #romantic in me that I never knew existed. Imagine meeting a récent fling at a wedding abroad! This is a couple you can root for. I usually listen on x2 or x3 speed, this one I kept it on x1.5 and if my mind wandered for a minute I was skipping back I seriously didn’t want to miss a minute! At moments I was laughing out loud. I thoroughly enjoyed the narration by #jessicaregan Thanks to #Netgalley for gifting me an #arc in exchange for an honest review. #netgalleyuk #bookouture #bookoutureaudio #womensfiction #booksta #bookstagramuk #readersofig #readersofinstagram #riereads #goodreadschallenge #goodreadschallenge2021 #oneadventureafteranother
Oh my gosh I loved this one! The Irish accent in narration did NOT hurt, but it was a sweet and funny story as well. Imagine running into what was supposed to be a one night stand...in another country...at your best friend's wedding, because your Mr Right Now is the grooms brother. Face palm! Such a fun story.
What a fantastic debut. I adored this book! Walsh really hit it out of the park. Perfect scenery, lovable characters, and daring but believable coincidences around every corner. Just when you think all is perfect, trouble reigns down and you're not sure the book will get it's happy ending... and then it does. This hit all of the musts for me when it comes to both rom coms and beach reads. It was a perfect one to enjoy while on vacation.
I'm already anxiously awaiting Walsh's next release. She has a gift with characters, and I need more!
I listened to the audiobook and really enjoyed the narrator. She not only brought the characters to life, but the surroundings too. I was given a digital ARC of this audiobook, but purchased the paperback for my collection. All opinions are my own.
I flew through this book. I thought it was a fun read and good story. At times I got annoyed with the main character and her repeat actions.. got a little repetitive. By the end, all was good!
One Night Only is a delightful and entertaining story. Although the book wasn’t my usual genre and I didn’t expect to enjoy it very much, I loved it! Light, amusing and exciting, with some surprisingly sharp observations about love, life and relationships - I couldn’t put it down and definitely will be looking up other books by the author. I listened to the audio version and the narration was great too. Overall, a thoroughly enjoyable experience.
**4.5 stars**
This was a hilarious and cute read! I loved the characters - their interactions, dialogue, and relationships were realistic and enjoyable to read. The plot and setting of the story were well done! I did find a couple of areas of the plot that were slightly slower than the rest.
I loved the narrator of the audiobook who expressed emotions well and had a good, realistic Irish accent to the relevant characters.
Thank you to Catherine Walsh, Bookouture, and NetGalley for an arc copy in return for an honest review.
3.5 stars rounded up. This was a cute debut novel. I love reading books when they have something to do with Ireland, so this one hit that mark. The main characters were likable (yay) and it was a quick read. The story is about Sarah (from NY) who bumps into her last one night stand all the way in Ireland, while at her best friends wedding. What are the chances? Will their one night stand turn into two? I won’t tell. But Sarah has a hard time forgetting Declan after returning home to NY. This is complicated because Sarah does not do love after having her heart broken by the first and only man she ever gave it to (hence why she prefers nights that are one and done). You will just have to read this book to see if Declan wants to (and if he can succeed) in winning Sarah’s heart. Thank you NetGalley and Bookouture Audio for this ARC in exchange for an honest review!
This was sweet - I used to not be a romance person, I could never get into them to stick til the end. But it’s authors like this one, who write a cute, movie worthy but realistic romance, that finally got me to stick around. I loved listening to this on my drives to and from work and I recommended it to anyone who is looking for a little pick me up.
