A delightful book full of adventure, action, and thrills. Fun to read, engrossing world building, and very descriptive imagery made it feel like it was cinematic. It's hard to resist the story as it drives forward. Would recommend.
3.5 stars. A quick and lighthearted read. I loved how the characters got to know each other, even though the burn was infuriatingly slow. There weren’t a ton of swoon worthy moments for me, but I enjoyed the fast pace of the story and found myself smiling often while reading. *I received an ARC in exchange for my honest review.
A sweet read. Lani is working up the publishing ladder as an editor and ends up working with our male main to get him through writer’s block. Along the way, a spark is ignited. This isn’t a steamer, but a heart stealer. It’s a different read, but enjoyable nonetheless. I would recommend it as it is rather quick, light, and maybe just what you need.
I could not have loved the premise of this book more. Books about books are always so satisfying but I especially love books that mirror my own love of the romance genre.
I loved the history of Lainie and Noah’s seven year long email relationship before they met face to face. Their games of online chess and Noah trust in her as an editor. This is one of my favorite hidden identity tropes because of that relationship buildup.
Lainie is all sunshine and optimism, she brings New York City to life for the cynical, burnt out author. The romantic NYC outings, quirky pets, and oddball friends made this an uplifting page turner with some truly unforgettable character.
Thank you so much to @netgalley and @putnambooks for this ARC, By Any Other Name is out now, make sure to grab your copy!

Slow to start, but came alive about halfway through - the conflict and relational tension between author and editor really began to shine. “By Any Other Name” would be a great vacation read! (3.5)
What an absolutely surprising and fun read! I rarely read the synopsis of a book before I read it, but the cover of By Any Other Name sold me right away. This enemies-to-lovers romance features an editor, her best-selling author and one life-changing secret.
Lanie has it all. A successful editing career and an engagement to the perfect man. When she's given the opportunity of a lifetime to work with her favorite (and international best-selling) author, Noa Callaway, Lanie jumps at the chance. But when a case of writer's block for the author brings Lanie face-to-face with the mysterious author, it rocks Lanie's world and has her question everything she thought she wanted in life and in love.
I really enjoyed this book! Any time you can center a book around publishing books, I'm sold! Lanie was a dynamic character and I loved her journey throughout. She was quirky, sweet, and determined. Her pet turtle was nothing short of hilarious.
I was really drawn to Noah's character, especially with his personal struggles that he faces privately. The exchanges Lanie and him have over this was touching and emotional. I love when heroes show their vulnerability.
This was a slow burn, closed door romance that is heartwarming and hilarious. Lanie and Noah had amazing banter and I loved the cast of characters that surrounded them. Throw in the NYC setting and it had me smiling the entire way through. As an added bonus, I adored the inclusion of Noa's book and how it tied the story together.
Thank you so much to NetGalley & Penguin Group for this ARC in exchange for an honest review.
I haven't read Lauren Kate since her Fallen series which was years ago, so I was excited to read an adult book from her. I really didn't go into this with any expectations, but I'm glad I enjoyed this overall.
I loved the concept of this book, but I think the romance was the downfall. Lanie & Noa were cute, but I wanted more from them. I enjoyed the first half of this more than the second. I think this book could have used a little more tension and banter, because that was lacking. I think I preferred them as just friends and never quite got hooked on them being together.
Once thing I did appreciate was getting an inside look at the publishing industry through Lanie's eyes, I thought that was very cool.
Overall, I did enjoy this and it was fun to come back to an author I hadn't read from in years.
This was a quick, fun romance read. It gave me Shakespearean romance vibes and I would definitely recommend this to people who may not usually enjoy straight up romance.
By Any Other Name is a sweet workplace romance centering around Lanie, a romance editor. Things are going great; she has found a man who ticks off all 99 requirements on her carefully curated list and she is going to receive a promotion at her job that she loves.
All she has to do is cure bestselling author Noa Callaway of her writer's block and deliver her next manuscript to the publisher...except no one has ever seen Noa Callaway. When a huge secret is revealed, it calls everything into question for Lanie's work - and personal - life.
I really enjoyed By Any Other Name. I won't talk too much about the story because I think it's best to go in cold. The plot and romance were very well done, and it was a sweet story. It is a slow burn and almost more women's fiction than romance novel, so I think going in with that expectation helps.
One thing I really liked in this book was that it was told through Lanie's POV but we got snippets of Noa's writing. I would read the entire book that we got snippets of, so Lauren please consider this a formal request! :)
Thank you to Putnam for an eARC of this book in exchange for my review.

I absoutely adored this lovely rom-com. I read it in 1 day!!! It has everything I love in a sweet and lovey romance novel. It's about books, publishing them, writing them and the methods on it. Plus, an enemy to lover's plot. *Cue all the heart emoji's*
I cannot go into too much details about this brilliantly sweet and lovely read just be prepared to feel all the feels and be wrapped up in a warm blanket.
Thank you so much @PenguinRandomHouse & @NetGalley for giving me this eARC in exchange for my honest and unbiased review (Release Date | 01 March 2022)
SYNOPSIS | Lanie works as a book editor & has just received a promotion meaning she is taking on a bigger client list including one of the company's biggest romance authors (Noa). They've been communicating for 7 years via email & Noa has never missed a deadline... until now where they are 4 months late delivering their latest manuscript.
WHAT I LIKED:
- Lanie's unwavering passion about stories
- a behind the scenes look at publishing
WHAT I DIDN'T LIKE:
- I was more interested in Noah's character but because it wasn't dual POV I feel like I didn't really get to know him
- the seven year build up of their friendship over emails was completely missing from the story
- the romance took too long to get going (actually this should more accurately be described as women's fiction with a smidge of romance)
- another story with heavy miscommunication as the basis of the conflict
Lanie is a romance editor and she based her career in publishing after reading a Noa Callaway book in college. While she's helped her boss work on Noa's books in the past she's given the temporary promotion of a lifetime to editor as long as she can get a book in 3 months, but she's never met Noa or even spoken to the author and when she does she begins to question everything she knew.
This was an enemies/friends to lovers with the sweetest grandma and wonderful coworkers/best friends. I loved the writing, reading about publishing and seeing more of the characters! My only complaint was I needed a few more chapters. I hate when the last page is the couple getting together!
Lauren Kate has always been one of my favorite authors. I remember reading The Fallen series and falling in love with her writing. When I received the notification of being approved to read By Any Other Name I was literally in tears. Reading the Fallen Series introduced me back to reading and I will forever be thankful to Lauren Kate. By Any Other Name was exactly what I love in a rom-com. I loved the characters and especially the setting. New York will forever hold a special place in my heart. I loved the writing but especially the slow burn romance. Thank you so much NetGalley for giving me the opportunity to read this amazing book.
I'm good with a slow burn story, but By Any Other Name really took that to a new level. It took awhile to get off the ground, and when it did, it fell into a somewhat predictable plot. Again, not necessarily a bad thing, but there was so much potential for this book to be amazing. If you want something that's overall a fast and easy read, this might be a great fit for you. If you want a fresh take on a rom-com with a zippy pace, this might not be the story for you.
By Any Other Name is the first book that I have read by Lauren Kate and it won’t be the last. I absolutely loved this sweet romantic story so much that I devoured it in less than a day. It is about Lanie, who has just been promoted to editorial director but there is a catch she will loose her job if she isn’t successful in getting best selling romance author Noa Callaway’s latest manuscript in a few months time. Lanie gets the shock of her life when she gets to meet Noa Callaway in person, the author who made her want to be an editor and who has been her email friend for years is not who she was expecting at all because Noa Callaway is really Noah Ross. Needless to say she doesn’t take it well because she feels that she along with all of the other Noa Callaway fans out there have been lied to this whole time. Will Lanie and Noah be able to turn their rocky first time in person meeting into something special and will Lanie be able to help Noah get past his writer’s block and turn in a another winning manuscript by the deadline, read By Any Other Name to find out.
Every time I read a book about a character working in publishing, I get so jealous. I want to work with books and authors, read early copies, and attend launch parties. I'm sure it's not all that glamorous, but in my fantasy it is! Lanie is a romance editor who gets the chance to work with the secretive best-selling author of her publishing house. When she discovers Noa isn't who she thought, she challenges all of her ideas about love and romance and reconsiders what she truly wants in a relationship.
I liked that there was no cheating of any kind and that Lanie's romantic relationship develops slowly. I enjoy when characters get to know each other first and build off a friendship. I did think the chemistry was a bit lacking and didn't have much passion. I think there's only one kiss between them and I just wanted more from the romance.
The story is pretty cute and evenly paced, with some fun side characters (like Lanie's grandmother) that added humor. It's set in New York City and definitely makes me want to go back and see some of these romantic spots.
I voluntarily read and reviewed this book. Thank you to NetGalley and Penguin Publishing Group for the copy
By Any Other Name is my first contemporary read by Lauren Kate, I have read her fantasy and paranormal romances before mainly the Fallen series which I loved so moving into a completely new genre by her was something new for me. Even though this book is categorized by enemies to lovers trope, I did not find the characters to be enemies at any point, yes, they did have their differences but not so much in the meaning of being enemies. However, this book felt more like women's fiction to me and I do think there could have been more romance which I would have loved to read about, but overall not a bad book with a cute cover!
This book was an absolute delight!! If you’re looking for an easy read with a light, albeit predictable plot, this book is for you! I lost myself in Lanie abs Noah’s story and I only
wish we got to see more of their blossoming romance once they accepted it!
What a fun, lovely book. I’m glad that Lauren late moved away from YA fantasy. This was a solid romance that made me feel too many things.
Thank you to NetGalley and G.P. Putnam's Sons for the advanced copy for review. All opinions are my own.
I loved this one so much! Friends to enemies to friends to lovers. So great!
Lanie is a romance editor who is tasked with helping the elusive Noa Callaway cure their writer's block. No one has met Noa and she isn't known publicly. Lanie will soon find out why that is.
Again, I loved this book! The premise is so good. The banter between characters is really great. The journey that is taken to get to the end is just perfect.
