I could not get into this book.
I received a complimentary copy of the book from PENGUIN GROUP Putnam, G.P. Putnam's Sons through NetGalley. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.

Although I have never read anything by Lauren Kate (even though I thought I had), this book was a hit. I enjoyed the mistaken identity and how it played into the overall storyline. Noah and Laney have undeniable chemistry and I couldn’t believe they didn’t actually hook up til the end. But I felt like that added to how organic their relationship was. It was unlike anything I’ve read before.
Classic “enemies to lovers” and how they grow into each other in the end because they just enjoy each others company, they have their own “love language” and I think that’s some of the best parts of this book!

Give me all the books set in publishing!!
By Any Other Name gave me such thrills with the enemies-to-lovers storyline. This novel is a good mix of Hallmark movie (ish) set up and The Hating Game all in one. I breezed through this book as I also fell in love with the characters and setting. Great palate cleanser!

Thank you to Putnam and Netgalley for this arc!
Imagine my surprise when I picked this up to learn that Lauren Kate is the author behind the Fallen series, a fantasy series that I read in high school that made me sob. This book is completely out of left field for her and I'm so happy she went for it.
This was such a cute and quick read, exactly what I needed in between other books in my rotation. It felt like a good, sweet romance scrub of my brain. I read it one day because it was such an easy read in the best way. Both Lanie and Noah were interesting characters and I did appreciate the cast of characters behind them as well.
I described this book as "a mid-2000s romance movie in book form in the best way" and I find that to be a fitting description. Will definitely be keeping my eye out for more of her work!

Super cute and sweet, I liked this but patrons who really need a soft romance? Looooooove this! It's not world shattering but you know that's not always needed or wanted. Recommended.

What happens when you are a romance editor and you actually have no idea about love? Lanie should be crushing life but she isn’t.. she actually doesn’t have a clue. Even though she has a list of 99 boxes of must haves. Noa Callaway is a famous author.. he is having a patch of writers block and Lanie is tasked with the job of helping with writers block. But is is writers block? Or some other secret? A trip to Italy on behalf of the author shocks the heck out Lanie. Can she get over the shock of her life? This was a cute enough romance. I liked the characters but there were some some story lapses, that just didn’t make sense. Something was just off for me. By Any Other Name by Lauren Kate, is a light hearted, summer read. This was a three star read for me. I want to thank Netgalley and the author for my copy for an honest review. It was my pleasure to read and review this book.

I though that this was a really sweet romance. It was one of the better ones that I have read thus far. It was sweet and a nice deep slow burn.

this was cute!! i haven't seen anyone talk about this one, so it was fun to go into a book totally without influence of any opinions or thoughts. it's perfect book about books, with a great author/editor relationship at the core that builds and develops over time with some great layers. it had "younger" vibes at times for me (a show i looooooved!) and was a fast, cute, fun read overall.

Another romance about a writer and an editor. I've read so many of these and they are getting a little bit commonplace at this point. I'm not sure what to think about this one. Lanie is a romantic soul with a flawed relationship we can see a mile away. What is the attraction to her fiancé except for his body and the fact that he, quite literally, checks all of her 99 boxes? And our mystery man, who will turn out to be "the one" isn't much of a mystery at all.
I hate to say I figured this out early on, but I did. I finished the book to make sure Lauren Kate finished things the way I had already done so in my head. It was pretty much the same (except I expected an epilogue and was left dissatisfied because I didn't get one).
It's a good enough romance, but not a great one. There are some interesting themes about love--with parents, with friends, with oneself. Maybe 3.5 stars overall.

This book was cute and an easy read. I liked Lanie’s dedication to diverse stories and books. But her reactions and jokes often felt immature and unprofessional. The chemistry was meh andromance took a while to get going, but I enjoyed how their relationship developed.

This rom com was so sweet, and I'm always a sucker for any plotline that also includes a book! I was very invested in this story.

First by this author and I really enjoyed it. Such a light, fun read and just what I needed to pull me from a funk! I love books set in NYC - I’ve never been so it intrigues me to travel! I’m usually an open door girly so this closed door romance was a sweet surprise, slow burn. Thanks so much for my early reader copy

"I’ll go anywhere,” he says, and kisses me again. “So long as you go with me."
I think that I will read anything that has to do with the publishing world. With that being said Lanie just really got on my nerves. I think that I had a hard time really connecting with her character as I didnt find her quirky, but rather quite abrasive and rude. I really liked Noah and wish we had seen more from him to sort of balance the two characters out. Overall I am not sure if I was the perfect reader for this story in particular as I could tell when parts were supposed to be funny, but to me I was a bit indifferent. I do think that this is a case of wrong book for wrong reader though, so I definitely plan on trying this author again.

Lauren Kate presents readers with a promising premise and the allure of a world-renowned romance writer. While the novel captures the essence of love's unpredictability, it ultimately fell short for me due to rushed pacing and some confusing minor plot lines. However, anyone looking for a quick, light, and entertaining read may enjoy this novel!

One of my favorite romance reads of 2022! Lauren Kate writes beautiful characters with endearing personalities.

I really enjoyed this book. This was the first book I have read by this author. I will look for other books by her. This was a sweet, romance book that also was some banter! I would definitely recommend this book!

By Any Other Name is a cute, somewhat insubstantial closed-door romance about a romance novel editor and her star author - who's not at all what she expected. I enjoyed the development of Lanie and Noah's romance through their adventures around New York City and through the language of romance novels, and the love of the genre as well as the setting both really shine through. But I found the writing sometimes a little too cheesy for my taste, and I wish, too, that the side characters had been a little better developed - Lanie's starting relationship, an engagement to the pretty terrible Ryan, for example, felt so obviously Bad with a capital B, and once they finally split up, Lanie moves on soooo fast. I didn't love Lanie as a character and thought we didn't get to know Noah very well for the love interest, but for the most part I found this story easy and enjoyable enough, if ultimately a bit forgettable.

I love a good editor/book world story in romance and this one was fun, witty, and sexy. A solid read for romance lovers!

Cw// death, Alzheimer’s.
I didn’t expect to love this book as much as I did. This was such a cute rom-com. The story line was interesting and Laney is truly delightful. Happy tears all over

I cannot believe I waited over a year to read this book (though, I will admit it was partially because I don’t love the cover).
The plot was outlandishly unrealistic while being just real enough to captivate and entertain me. Almost nothing that happened in this book is real life, but it was so wildly entertaining and fun that I didn’t mind. Even though I could fully see what was coming, I loved getting there. I would watch this movie (probably a few times).
I would recommend this to fans of Emily Henry or avid romcom viewers (p sure that venn diagram is a circle).
