1 star ⭐️ said the F word too many times for me to get into the story. I wish books came with content warning sometime. It would make things easier!

This book is such a sweet read. A cute rom-com, enemies to lovers story. This story is about Lanie, an assistant editor to one of this biggest Contemporary Romance Authors of the time. Everyone loves Noa Calloway's books. Lanies love for Noa Calloway books is why she became an editor in the first place. Lanie soon comes to find out that Noa Calloway is not the author or woman Lanie thought she was. Noa Calloway is actually a man named Noah Ross... and he's super irritating... and super hot.

I loved every character in this book. Lanie's relationship with her grandmother, BD, is absolutely hilarious. Her best friends, Meg and Rufus, are the friends everyone wishes they had. Also- Lanie's pet is an old tortoise named Alice that just wonders around her apartment- how adorable is that?!

This is book has a cute twist in the beginning and sweet burn to it. It is a quick, easy and funny read with a precious ending.

Thank you to NetGalley and Penguin Group - Putnam for the opportunity to read this ARC in exchange for my honest opinion.

I was so charmed by By Another Other Name! Lanie is about to have it all, she’s engaged to a man who fits all the requirements of her perfect partner and she’s up to for a promotion… but only if she can get her favorite author Noa Calloway out of their writing rut. Except Noa isn’t the woman she thought, in fact Noa is actually Noah Ross, a charming and handsome man. I loved this journey through these characters and New York City! This book, like Noa Calloway’s book, is just as much an ode to finding the beauty of NYC and finding yourself as it a love story. Lanie is sharp and ambitious and her friends are just fabulous, and her grandmother is an absolute gem! I love how her love for Noa Calloway became an Avenue for her growth as she began to search for authentic love instead of something that fit a list she made. And Noah is thoughtful and romantic. Their story is emotional and heartwarming. The banter is funny and witty, and I was rooting for Lanie and Noah to find Noah’s spark of inspiration the whole way through. The writing made me want to travel, to find adventure, and take risks. I was endeared by Noah’s journey as an author too. This isn’t a steamy read, but it’s sweet and romantic and really stole my heart.

Thank you to the author and publisher for this ARC!

This book was an absolute DELIGHT. I breezed through it, not able to put it down, and am still not sure how the author was able to weave in serious topics and even sadness in a way that still left the experience of reading the story light and fun enough to be a purely enjoyable experience.

As a book about a book, I was primed to love the concept. This story really shines though because you get inside the head of both the author and the editor, and feel like you are growing with them throughout. Both main characters were complex and surprising, and I didn’t feel as if I was reading a series of tropes, but a thoughtful story. The side characters were a lot of fun, and I especially enjoyed the grandmother, BD. I was captivated too by the snippets of the book within the book that we see toward the end. While this book was advertised as enemies to lovers, I really think it’s friends to lovers with a slight bump in the road.

The writing was beautiful and the story left me happy and content. Highly recommend and can’t wait to read more from this author!

Thank you #Netgalley for the early copy!

This cute little rom com follows Lanie a romance editor who is engaged to a man who she believes meets her perfect criteria, all 99 boxes. A concept she learned from her favorite author, Noa Callaway, who just so happens to be published by her company. Lanie is given an interim promotion and must work with Noa Callaway on getting their next book ready print, but Noa is a bit difficult to work with. Lanie must sign an NDA before she begins to work with Noa, who in turn is not what she expected of her favorite romance author. This shake up makes her question her thought process on love, especially her engagement. She begins to let herself look at what is around her and what brings her joy. We see the author and Lanie begin their rocky relationship ultimately leading a twist we did not see coming, tying it all together.

Thank you NetGalley and Putnam for letting me read an E-ARC of this book before it's release on March 1, 2022 in exchange for an honest review.

This book intrigued me because it was an enemies to lovers, book related romance. While this was labelled as "enemies to romance" it felt more like a you've got mail mistaken/unknown identity moreso than real enemies.

Our protagonist Lanie works in publishing and gets a provisional promotion to full editor as long as she can coax the publishing houses top author Noa Callaway (who is 4 months late on their latest manuscript) to submit a chart topping hit by May 15th. Lanie idolizes Noa Callaway, and their books are why she switched trajectories and wound up in publishing. I liked this book, but the beginning felt a bit too much like a checklist for a romance novel. Female protagonist in love with the idea of love (check), who's mother's dying words to her were to find love(check), protagonist engaged to a man who doesn't seem to support her goal or career ambitions at allbut fits her checklist of what she needs in a man to T (check), her favorite author has a secret identity (check) and when it's revealed that's where the "enemy" aspect comes into play(check), protagonist proceeds to cure writers block by showing author how to fall in love with new York again (check). That being said, I love the supporting characters in this book, and Lanie after the first few chapters becomes a pretty relatable and enjoyable character.

This didn't steal my breath or make me swoon, but I enjoyed the relationship building between Noah and Lanie, but wish there was more banter, more awkward almost, will they/won't they moments, email exchanges, or even if the identity wasn't given away quite so quickly. This was a good book, but I wish some aspects of the plot could have been explored further so I felt more connection with the plot and the characters. But if you want a love story within a book about writing a love story, with motorcycles, humor, a tortoise, a rabbit, and some lovely supportive friends and family then give this book a read.

By Any Other Name is a fantastic read. I loved every moment of this one. Lani is an amazing editor working her way up in the publishing world. She has had an email relationship with her favorite author for years before finally becoming the go to editor. There is this sweet chemistry that grows out from Lani and Noah as they work together to get Noa through writer's block. You feel for Lani as she struggles with the knowledge of who Noa really is and how to make everything work. I could not get enough of this one. Lani and Noah will steal your heart as everything comes together. You get a little bit of grumpy as well as plenty of sweet. I love how different this read is. Noah and Lani are just amazing, and you need to meet them today.

Gosh that what so adorable! I absolutely loved this novel from start to finish. It was so fun reading about the editorial side of writing a book and the characters were so much fun. It was pretty predictable but I don’t think that it took away from the story at all. I really loved this book and will definitely be reading more from the author in the future. Thank you netgalley!

This was such a cute romantic read. I loved every minute of it. The romance between the two main characters was done at the right pace to where it never lacked for me. I loved the ending and how everything came together. Definitely recommend! Thank you, NetGalley, for this ARC!

By Any Other Name

⭐️⭐️⭐️

By Any Other Name is a short, fluffy read with an absolutely sweet ending. Our story centers around book editor Lanie and mystery man 😏 The two get off on the wrong foot but end up finding more than they ever imagined.

While this was a cute story, I found that it lacked depth to the characters. I don't feel like we REALLY got to know the love between these characters and the ending seemed quite abrupt. With that said if you are looking for something to put you in a good mood, this is for you!

I had such high hopes for this one but unfortunately it missed the mark for me. A few of the reasons : extremely predictable, mocking of mental health and suicide (main character jokes about getting admitted to a mental hospital for fun because a patient who attempted suicide would be "fun to hang out with), trying too hard to be relevant/woke that it almost seems as if it's mocking it. Hard to tell where the author was going with a lot of it.

I'm sure many people will appreciate this story, but it did not do it for me.

Thanks so much to Netgalley for the opportunity to read and review this book prior to its release.

I've never read anything by this author before and think I might have found a new autobuy writer.

By Any Orher Name is told from the point of view of Laine Bloom, an editor at a female driven publishing house. Lanie is living her best life engaged to a hot guy, working at her dream job, and will soon be the new editor to her favorite romance author Noa Callaway. The only thing she is missing is her mother, who died when she was ten. What Lanie never expected working with her idol Noa Callaway and meeting a man named Noah Ross would turn her life upside down.

By Any Other Name is listed as an enemies to lovers, slow-burn romance. I didn't really pick up on the enemies to lovers vibe more of a misunderstanding that they were able to clear up rather quickly. I loved the ending and how the story Noa Callaway wrote intertwined with real-life.

Thank you, NetGalley, for this ARC

I don’t even know where to start with this book… I had high hopes for it based on the description, but I didn’t think it would go so far beyond my expectations. It was one of the rare books where I didn’t want it to end; it could have been twice as long and I still would have devoured it in just one sitting. As it was, I started and finished in less than a day.

Lanie Bloom is living her dream - she’s engaged to the man that checks off every one of the 99 items on The List and she loves her job as a senior editor at Peony Press, assisting in the editing the books by her favorite author Noa Callaway, the famously recluse author who never makes appearances or takes interviews. The books that got her both the job and the man. The first book by Noa that she read changed her life: she changed her major from premed in hopes of working for Noa’s publisher, and prompted her the write the lists of 99 items to look for in her one true love, who she eventually meets. But when she’s offered to opportunity to become his editor and meet the woman behind the name, she’s shocked to realize the picture of an older woman she has in her head couldn’t be more wrong. The author that she needs to squeeze a four-month overdue manuscript out of is in fact a very attractive man her own age, Noah Ross. Shocked to finally put a face to name she’s been rather intimately corresponding with for the last seven years, they are immediately at odds with each other. But the time that Lanie begins spending with Noah in the interest of curing his writer’s block and deliver his new book on time, the more the tension threatens to upset the balance between their professional obligations and desires.

In short, I loved this book. It’s the very definition of a slow burn romance - they didn’t come together until later the last page, and as much as I didn’t think I’d enjoy an - [ ] open ending, I like how you can decide how their story goes from here. There’s a little bit of a warning in there about meeting your idols, because Lanie’s hung so many of her values and aspirations on Noa’s books, and it required so many recalculations on her part when she met him as Noah because what she thought she wanted in love was tied up how she saw her mom in Noah the author instead of Noah the man. Once they met and she was able to reconcile the two identities in her mind, the tension and chemistry between them was palpable, from the sparks of lightning at their first meeting as Lanie and Noah but also the rapport they had via email for 7 years as author and editor. I felt like the tension was able to build so naturally because for two people who are normally so good with words they have a hard time finding the right words between them to express how they felt. Lanie felt a kinship and attraction to Noah that she was uncomfortable with, but Noah clearly loved her from far for long before they met.

For a book that felt like a very fast read, there was a lot of details woven into the story that gave a lot more depth that you’d usually find in a more more lengthy verbose book. It was heartwarming and funny. This book gave me Beach Read vibes, but if you like any books by Emily Henry or Sarah Jio, you’ll love By Any Other Name! Thanks to NetGalley and Penguin Publishing Group/G.P. Putnam's Sons for the advanced copy in exchange for my honest review.

Thank you Penguin Group/Putnam and NetGalley for this eArc in exchange for my honest reviews.

I was really excited for the premise of this one - it gave me a vibe like Nicholas Sparks was our hidden author, at least that's how I pictured it the entire time, and I loved it! Lanie and Noah had such an interesting story arc together. From her being blind sighted to their affinity for chess matches, this entire story just worked.

While I was reading I jotted a few notes down, one of which was: "At 5% I can tell that this story has the potential to be something special. Prob just jinxed it!" Well I didn't jinx it...it was special! I loved how her Mom's story was woven into the pages and how surly Noa was until Noah wasn't. I do think the story was an incredibly slow burn and around 46% is when I felt things started to get interesting. The chemistry between the two was so good! It felt real. Not romance book rea, but real life real!

Lanie's grandma, BD was probably my favorite character of the book. She was so sassy, funny and reminded me a lot of my Nana. She was fashionable, fearless and not at all your textbook grandma. At some point in the story the next book from Noa featured BD's Fendi suit....IYKYK and I actually gasped out loud. I loved this attention to detail and care the author took with these fine details.

Overall I loved this one! It was sweet, romantic, fun, took you on a total ride and I literally said "awwww" at the end of the book. I totally loved it, but the only think I felt we missed was the big reveal to the world at the end. How did the women of the world feel?! We need to know!

Pick this up when you're craving some romance with banter and depth. This is absolutely a slow burn, but the sweet moments on the Amtrak with egg drop soup, or the chess games in the park and even the flowers sent to Lanie's office - wow...you'll be rooting for these two!

By Any Other Name was so cute!! I adored the love story! The characters were easy to fall in love with in the novel. It is a feel-good, cuddle up with your favorite drink, under a blanket on a Saturday afternoon book.

This is a cute slow burn rom-com. I will say that if you’re interested in the plots of romances more than anything else than you’ll love it, if it’s not the plot you’re after…. Maybe stay away from this one.

Laney is the editor of Noa Calloway and Noa is late with the first draft of a new book. What ensues is laney finding out more about who she is, who she loves and what she’s after in life. I laughed, I cried, I wanted more time with them… but ultimately, I wanted that Noa Calloway book.

This was a light read. It has a great premise which will appeal to most romance readers and I think my book club would really enjoy it!

Lanie is living the life she always wanted and the icing on the cake is getting to work with her favorite author. However, working with her favorite author provides more challenges than Lanie ever saw coming. You see there's a reason no one has ever met Noa Calloway, and when the truth comes out, it turns Lanie's world upside down.

I thought Lanie's story was really cute. I was hooked from the first page. As someone who works in the book world, I found this story really easy to connect with. I will say that I had a pretty good idea what the big twist of the story was going to be from the get-go, and even though I had it figured out, I found myself really liking it because once again, I found it very relevant to book world life. If you've never met or seen photos of a particular author in real life, how do you know they're really who they claim to be?

By Any Other Name is a sweet romance that starts off with enemies to lovers vibes, but will have you swooning by the time you reach the end. If I had to make any complaints about this book it would be ending. Don't get me wrong, I adored the ending, but I was really left wanting more. What can I say? I'm a greedy reader.

All in all, By Any Other Name was a fun book to spend my day getting lost in.

By any other name was ok. I didn't connect to the story as much or the characters. I lost interest early on but did finish. It just was a miss for me. Thanks Netgalley and publishers for chance to read this.

They say never meet your idols, right? Well, Laine works for the publishing house of her
FAVORITE author, and is on the editorial team. Laine is the biggest believer in love stories; she has a list of the perfect man and her fiancé checks everything on that list, or so she thinks.

Noa Calloway is one of the biggest names in romance writing, and also never does publicity.
Laine and Noa have formed a friendship via email over the last seven years, and Laine is tasked with helping Noa with writer's block when the latest manuscript is wildly overdue.

I thought this excellent story was so much more than a typical romance, it's also about family and the expectations we carry for our lives. I loved the side characters, like Laine's feisty grandmother, and the small, cute details throughout the book.

Be sure to add this one to your TBR, it comes out March 1! Thank you @netgalley & @putnambooks for this advanced copy!
