Thank you NetGalley & Penguin Publishing Group for a digital ARC of By Any Other Name!
I sooo enjoyed this story! Lanie was such a loveable character. I really can't put much more into this review without giving some major spoilers so I'll just say it's a quick, light read; a cute romance with no steam.
A cute but generic love story. Didn't really get into it, and probably won't remember it a few weeks from now.
A sweet rom-com (that I would *not* market as enemies-to-lover) that follows Lanie, a successful editor, who has been given the opportunity to work with the world-renowned author and the reason she went into publishing: Noa Calloway. The catch, however, is that no one has ever met Noa Calloway. And Lanie is about to find out why.
I really enjoyed this story. It was a bit predictable, but in the best way. And I LOVED the ending!
This book was a bit of a let down for me. It had a good premise, but I felt that the characters and story were all pretty generic. There were so many cliches throughout that I found myself thinking it could be any chick lit book. I’m sorry to say it just didn’t have anything that was memorable. From the characters to the story line it was all so very predictable. It was an okay read, but nothing about it made me want to check out more by the author. I wouldn’t recommend it.
I really enjoyed reading this book. It was very cute and didn’t rely on the overdone tropes of the genre, while keeping some elements of classic tropes (slight enemies to lovers). I loved that there were mini love stories within the book via Noa Callaway’s books.
There were parts that were too neatly tied up (breakups are never that easy & why don’t we hear from Alix just once) and I wish the ending was expanded and explained more of the consequences of the actions and decisions in the last chapter.
Overall, the book is cute, and it’s a fun, lighthearted read.
Thank you to NetGalley and Putnam Group Penguin for the eARC in exchange for my honest review. This book comes out March 1st, 2022.
Thank you NetGalley for the arc in exchange for an honest review!!
This book was so good ! I could not put it down! I usually don't get this excited about books that aren't spicy but it was that good! A romance book about romance books ♥️ it's so perfect. I fell in love with Laine. I love how this book isn't just about romance but her growing as a person. I recommend this book !
By Any Other Name is a story of an editor who finally meets her favorite author of her favorite love stories. The editor then ends up falling for the author when she finds out it’s an attractive young man behind the pen name. I really like the idea. For me, it would be like if Colleen Hoover ended up being a young guy so, I found the humor in that concept and liked the concept as the start of a love story. This book is marketed as a “hate to love” story which I personally hate as a shtick but luckily for me the “hate” part did not portray very well to me as a reader. I would have preferred taking that concept out completely and just rocking with the love part. Another frustrating thing for me is that it took 50% of the book for the main character, Lanie, to break up with her boyfriend so only 50% of the book do you really get to see the connection between Noah and Lanie. This also led to the one and only kiss being on the last page of the book which felt very Disney to me. Overall, I thought it was okay. I think I loved the idea better than the actual read of the book but there were moments that I did feel something for the characters. Specifically, I loved the final book idea and how it ended up mimicking Noah’s and Lanies love story. I’d give this book 2.8/5 stars.
This was fun & formulaic, but formulas work. The plot drew me in and kept me turning pages. And while the characters were underdeveloped and the ending so abrupt that I thought I was missing pages (an epilogue? Something?) I am happy I read this book because it was a fun and enjoyable experience and that counts for a lot.
Thanks to NetGalley for providing a copy of this book.
Thank you PENGUIN GROUP Putnam and Netgalley for an advanced copy in exchange for my honest review.
I love this concept. I think it's everything we ever worry about our favorite authors, especially our favorite romance authors. I think Lanie was great and her relationships with her friends were well built. However, the side characters and Noah Ross (the male main character) felt very one note. They didn't have the character development they I think they could have had.
I also didn't really love the way it ended. While I love that it kind of mirrored the manuscript process, I think I would have loved to see them be together a little bit. Maybe an epilogue of Noah meeting DB? It just felt very sudden. Overall its cute, but not my favorite.
She's finally getting the promotion she's been working for. But her success hinges on her ability to guard one of the biggest secrets in the publishing world.
Their meet cute is not cute. As far as she's concerned, he's arrogant and condescending and aloof. And whether or not she finds him attractive is immaterial. She's already engaged. And he's a liar.
But he writes books that are things of beauty. Books that speak to her heart and have shaped her life. But now the one writer who will make or sink her career has writer's block. Even though she is hurt enough, and angry enough, to cast him into purgatory, she knows she has to thrust her feelings of betrayal aside and get him to deliver a manuscript.
Lanie and Noah have messy lives and loose ends. They have the weight of a monumental deception between them. But they also have tulips. And walks in the rain. And train rides with odiferous lunches.
I absolutely adored this sweet, sassy rom-com! It features a complex hero who is in touch with his feelings, and able to articulate them. It features a heroine who finally empowers herself to seek out and fight for the life and the sense of personhood that she wants and deserves. It features two unforgettable characters navigating the challenges and losses that have shaped them.

A huge thanks to the publisher and Netgalley for the chance to read this ARC in exchange for my honest opinions.
I loved this book. It was well written and the characters were wonderful. I enjoyed experiencing their relationship progress and watching the characters find themselves in the process. I would have loved to experience the book from Noah's perspective as well. Watching him fall in love and hope for the best throughout would have made my heart happy.
Rating: 2.5
By Any Other Name is a contemporary women’s fiction about a romance editor discovering her bestselling author’s life changing secret.
This was a quick and okay read. While, there were certain elements I enjoyed the overall storyline just wasn’t what I had expected.
The premise of the story was quite interesting and had a lot of potential however, the execution just fell flat. The writing was also a bit choppy and the majority of this book was just very underdeveloped.
While, this book is promoted as an enemies to lovers romance, it unfortunately wasn’t. The main characters dynamic never felt hostile or gave off enemy vibes. They were just two individuals who didn’t really know how to work with each other after the big revelation.
The romantic subplot and development between the main characters was also very minimal. The heroine in fact has a fiancé until half way into the story. The romance between the heroine and hero was just very slow and underdeveloped.
I will say that my favorite parts of this book were the side characters and all their banter with the heroine. I also really liked the romance book that the hero wrote and the inspiration behind it all.
The ending did feel quite rushed and there were a few plot points unresolved but nonetheless a decent conclusion for these characters. Overall, a decent read it just didn’t quite hit the mark for me.
Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for providing me with an ARC in exchange for my honest review.
After reading a Noa Callaway romance book in college, Lanie decides to go into publishing. When her boss goes on maternity leave, Lanie is tasked with getting Noa’s next novel turned in on time.
I requested this from NetGalley because of the adorable cover, and I decided to read it next because it was shorter than the other books on my Kindle. I love books about books, and this was a quick read for me. This really didn’t feel like a romance - it was a super slow burn with no steamy parts. I also thought the book ended abruptly. I have other thoughts, but I don’t want to give away the twist.
By Any Other Name is quite simply the most romantic book I will read in 2022 I have no doubt. This incredible love story follows editor Lanie who fell in love with reading and romance after devouring Noa Callaway’s debut novel in college. However when she finally has the opportunity to meet Noa, more than a decade later, and see the face behind the best-selling author pseudonym, she is severely disappointed to find her idol and co-worker/friend is actually a guy her age. Noah and Lanie instantly get off on the wrong foot, despite years of camaraderie over emails. Lanie is engaged to another man and Noah, while attractive, is an annoying recluse who lied to her for years and won’t produce his next manuscript she needs to keep her job. But as Lanie soon learns, everything is not what it seems and people have reasons for keeping their secrets. As Noah and Lanie develop a plan to combat Noah’s writer's block and save Lanie’s job they inevitably grow closer. The last 20% of this book truly makes this the most romantic and inspiring love story I think I have ever read. It is hard not to simply adore Noah who is such a soft and empathetic man you just want to hug him. These two are simply perfect for each other and their story is simply magic. The banter, the heartache, the fun-loving side cast, the breathtaking location, and the ENDING make this a book I won’t forget. If you enjoy love stories in any shape or form you should pick this book up ASAP. Thanks so much to NetGalley and Penguin Group Putnam for the advanced copy in exchange for my review. I can’t wait to read more by Lauren Kate soon!
First time reading this author and I love the book!
It's about books, secret identity, editors and books; about misconceptions and friendships and learning to love without expectations.
The story is told in 1st person POV by Lanie, who's called to deal with big-name author Noa Callaway when the main editor doesn't come back from maternity leave. The author is late with their submission and there's a lot on the line. Then Lanie finds out the author is actually a guy, Noah Ross, and not an older woman like she'd thought all these years.
I liked the connection they already had through sending emails in the past seven years, which helped Noah gain Lanie's friendship back after her initial reaction.
Also loved the story Noah finally writes and how it entwines with their own.
I received a copy from the publisher via NetGalley and this is my honest opinion.
I loved the premise of this book, but felt that the writing didn't hold me unfortunately. As the book went on, it became harder to get through and eventually I DNF'd.
When I saw that this ICONIC YA author was coming out with an adult romance, I knew I had to read it. I was fully sold on the synopsis of this book as the enemies to lovers trope is one of my favorites. I also love romances that focus on authors, editors, or anyone else in the literature field so that was another plus.
I ended up not loving this story as much as I was hoping to, but it was still an enjoyable read overall. It didn't really end up feeling like enemies to lovers and so much of the book felt like set up to me until addressing the main conflict and plot line almost 3 quarters into the story.
There was some good banter and I liked the relationship between Lanie and Noa. There just wasn't too much that stood out in this one from other contemporary romances that I've read. I think this could be a good read for readers who are new to the genre.
I thought this was such a unique concept for a book. Without giving any spoilers, I’ll say the main premise of the book was a twist I didn’t see coming, and that made it so much fun.

i rlly liked this book !! it wasn’t that that "enemies to lovers" but it was so fun to read. i kinda don’t like the "been penpal for years and when i meet you irl i don’t know it’s you and i hate you" but it was done pretty well!
This book was advertised as an enemies to lovers office romance but I’m not sure if that’s how I’d categorize this. It’s enemies to lovers in an cute antagonistic romcom way. I think fans of The Hating Game by Sally Thorne or The Spanish Love Deception by Elena Armas will love this. Noa and Lanie are really interesting and well developed characters but big reveal fell a bit short for me, otherwise i’d be giving the book 5 stars. This was my first book by Lauren Kate and I’m excited to see what else she creates!
