This was a fun, sweet and joyful reading experience. I usually don't get along with a lot of rom-coms but this surprisingly easy to love. Thank you to Netgalley for early access in exchange for a honest review.
i normally do not tend to reach for a lot of rom-coms because i am not one to enjoy over-the-top confectionery sugar romance. i do however like the editor who falls in love tropes! i just find that world fascinating. i am so glad i took a chance on this book because i really enjoyed it! i just wish the romance would have been a bit more fast-paced.
Such a cute book! I loved the premise. I shared about it extensively on social media, including in a monthly round up and yearly round up of my favorite romance novels of 2022.
Thank you to netgalley and the publisher for an advanced copy of “by any other name.” All opinions are my own.
Firstly, I love a book about books and publishing and the behind the scenes of the creation of good books.
Honestly can’t believe Im saying this but I wish this book had been a little longer!! We needed more time to watch Noah and Lanie together. There wasn’t enough romance between them to be honest. The editorial and book chapter were so so good…. but I needed a bigger declaration in person from Noah though! He could’ve emphasized more that he’d had a crush on her for years as they were internet pen pals and that he was nervous to meet her that first day etc etc.
P.S. please I beg the author to actually write that 2000 picnics book as a novella or something. That final chapter had me in tears.
Such a fun, sweet read! I loved the writing and the characters were great! I usually love when books include book or writing themes in the story and this one was no exception!
This was very enjoyable. The concept was a lot of fun and inspired a really great story and relationship. Extremely predictable, but still very sweet.
This was an average romance that once I closed the book I completely forgot all about it. I had to re-read the synopsis to remember what the book was about. I remember feeling the romance aspect felt a little lackluster, although I did appreciate how the characters got to know one another vs. instantly falling in love. But overall it was just OK.
This book was great! I’m a huge Lauren Kate fan so I knew this would be something I would be interested in. I loved the character development and felt like I was feeling all their emotions!
Thanks Netgalley for allowing me to read this book! The title and this beautiful cover drew me in and i was excited to read this book! I will be recommending this book to others for readers advisory.
"By Any Other Name" by Lauren Kate is a captivating and heart-wrenching young adult romance novel. The story follows the journey of Roseline Enright, a student at a prestigious New England boarding school who falls in love with a mysterious stranger named Auden.
Kate's writing style is fluid and engaging, making it easy to become absorbed in the story. The characters are well-developed, and their motivations are clear and relatable. The love story between Roseline and Auden is both sweet and poignant, and the plot twists will keep readers on the edge of their seats.
However, the book is not without its flaws. At times, the plot can be a bit predictable, and some of the dialogue feels stiff and unnatural. Additionally, the historical elements of the story are not as fleshed out as they could be, leaving readers with more questions than answers.
Overall, "By Any Other Name" is a well-written, engaging young adult novel that will appeal to fans of the genre. While it's not perfect, it's a solid four-star read that will leave readers satisfied and looking forward to more from Lauren Kate.
When I saw enemies to lovers, I knew I had to pick this up. It’s obviously the best trope ever! I absolutely enjoyed this one. The characters were sweet and relatable. The character development was amazing. The story itself felt relatable, even though I’m not an editor. It was super sweet and super enjoyable. Would read again and recommend.
I absolutely adored By Any Other Name, it was such a delight to read. I loved the story, characters, and the romance.
I don't usually say this, but this book should have been longer. And yet, I am glad that it wasn't. Everything felt just a little rushed. Even the ending felt unfinished. We never see the consequences of the character's choices. And yet, everything felt a bit slow, a bit dull, and boring.
My favorite thing about this book is that it's quick and easy to read. The writing is simple, and the premise is kind of interesting.
What I didn't like: the characters (except Noah, he was fine).
The main character Lanie is immature and overdramatic. She threw tantrums when her expectations weren't met, and She's also highkey sexist. At a book release party, Lanie calls out the only man in the room, joking about how he must obviously be there to buy a book for his wife because God forbid that men read romance novels. She makes this joke several times in front of an audience, by the way. Later, when Lanie discovers that her favorite romance author is a man, Lanie freaks out and calls him a liar and a fraud because, obviously, only women can write romance. She then starts pressuring him to reveal his identity, which he only hid for fear that people wouldn't read his romance novels if they knew a man wrote them. Lanie is also very dismissive of Noah, dismissing his reason and assuming the worst.
Another issue I had was with Lanie's first relationship. It contributed absolutely nothing of substance to the plot or Lanie's character. When it was over, Lanie had one sad scene after the breakup, then they never again brought up the fiance or the past relationship. Also, to throw this out there, Lanie's friends annoyed me.
In the end, I didn't love this book. There was no tension between the characters and no real consequences to their actions. That said, I also didn't hate it, so there is that.
Thank you to Putnam and NetGalley for an e-galley of By Any Other Name.
Lanie Bloom has her dream job and a fiancée that checks all 99 things off her list - a list inspired by Noa Callaway's book Ninety-Nine Things I'm Going to Love About You. And she now has the opportunity to work with the mysterious Noa as her editor. The kicker? Noa is 4 months late turning in her latest manuscript...and appears to have no current works in progress. As Lanie struggles with how to motivate the most popular author at Peony Publishing, she is also trying to maintain a relationship with her fiancée who clearly has different life goals after marriage.
Will Lanie be able to procure the needed manuscript in time? Or will her dream job and dream fiancée fall through her fingers?
3.5 stars!
I really enjoyed this adorable book of mistaken identities. Lanie has it all; her dream career editing for an author she admires, great friends, and a loving fiancé. When her mentor goes out on maternity leave, she's left being in charge of all things Noa Callaway, which would be great, except Noa is 4 months late on her deadlines and she had to coax a new book out of her.. and soon.
Lanie is in love with all of Noa's books and the author is her "love inspiration." I don't want to give too much away, but the twist is revealed pretty early on. Because Lanie has to work so closely with Noa for inspiration for the new book, it has her questioning if she really is in the right relationship and if her life is on the track. This was a very cute, low-steam romance. I wish it was a little longer to see more of what happened between these two as they progressed, but it was sweet and I loved their banter.
Thank you to Penguin, Netgalley and Lauren Kate for an early copy of this book.
I love books about books. This was a very slow burn romance, in which Lanie, a romance editor, would have a chance to work with her all-time favorite romance author, Noa Calloway. The problem, Noa didn’t want to write romance books anymore, because he didn’t believe in it.. Lanie’s career hinged on his new book. We follow how Lanie needed to follow, cajole, convince, and finally show that romance really did exist. Would Noa and Lanie find true romance, though? I truly enjoyed this book, and recommend it. Special thank you to Netgalley and Putnam G.P. Book, for an advanced copy for my honest review of this book.
wow wow wow I loved the Mcs. the plot was interesting and fast paced. I enjoyed the way the characters interacted with each other. I laughed a lot and cried a little. I love a good romcom.
This was a super cute slow burn enemies to lovers story especially for readers. It was almost a two-in-one story—the romance between doesn’t really kick in until halfway through the book, but I didn’t mind that at all because the first half was almost a love letter to book lovers!

Overall, this was an adorable and heartfelt read that would be especially perfect for fans of the TV show Younger.
Thank you NetGalley and Publishers for this ebook for an honest review.
This book is a quick, fluffy, light read. I enjoyed the dynamic between Lanie and Noa. What I didn't care for was how Lanie made a big deal over something that seemed so small. And I didn't really see the enemies to lovers in this. She was mad for like a day and got over it so quickly. Also, I wish there was more to this story.
I love books with book components! It instantly draws me in. I really enjoyed the characters but the storyline was underwhelming.
