I have read a few of Nick Spalding’s books and enjoyed them and You Again was no exception.
It follows the story of Amy and Joel who used to be married and work together until one of them made a disastrous error in the work diary that led to them splitting up and going their separate ways.
They now find themselves on holiday together but with their new partners back on the island where they had their honeymoon.
A well written funny story that deals with jealousy and revenge in a humorous way.
You Again? is a really cute read. a divorced couple meets a few years again after going their separate ways while they are on holiday with new partners. they have a lot of animosity but work through it and it makes for a great read.
I have so much to say about this book..
But all i can do is type all the wonderful things over and over!
The words that spring to mind are
Funny, fantastic, brilliant, witty, humourous and very very engaging! I didn't want it to end!
It made me laugh out loud, spit my coffee out and I kept telling my husband he needs to hear this bit and that bit!
The characters were funny, and really enjoyable to live alongside whilst I fell into this story.
I haven't read many books that are romantic come from a males perspective but I will define doing so in the future and this author has found a new fan!
Thank you to netgalley and the publishers and the author Nick spalding for the opportunity to read this book for my honest opinion
This was an enjoyable and funny read. Loved the idea of the storyline and how it played out. There was some good laugh out loud moments in it too.
Well recommended.
Thank you Netgalley.
You Again features Nick Spalding's trademark prose, quick wit and laugh out loud moments. Joel and Amy, formerly married and bitterly divorced, end up taking their significant others on a trip to the Maldives-at the same time and same resort. It's not a huge coincidence as they spent their honeymoon there. Told from their alternating perspectives the reader is given glimpses into the past of their marriage and their unique perspectives on their demise and current interactions on the Maldives. Anything can happen in paradise with egos, drinks and strong personalities-and it does. While Amy and Joel aren't very likeable, in the beginning, they become more sympathetic and tolerable in the end-similar to the main character in Spalding's logging off. The abrupt end keeps it from being a 4 star read for me-but it's a quick read and perfect for the beach.
Thank you to the publisher and NetGalley for this ARC in exchange for my honest feedback.
I tend to like books by this author, especially when I am in the mood for an easy lighthearted read. Unfortunately, this one just wasn't for me at all. This book seems to be marketed as a romance, which it is not.
I found both main characters deeply irritating, childish and just not at all relatable. The parts of the book that I was supposed to find funny, I just found annoying as the characters played childish pranks on each other. The main characters divorced due to a lack of communication and nothing else and I actually found myself feeling sorry for the heroines new partner who I felt deserved much better.
The things that saved this book from a 1 star review were the idyllic setting and the fact that the characters don't end up getting back together as I feared may be the direction the book was heading at one point.
A light, easy read. The ending did not go down the path I expected and I was pleasantly surprised by it.
A fun read, You Again? manages to get the reader go with the flow. It is not a typical romance novel, and manages to get the reader laugh. A light-hearted read.
This book made me laugh at the outrageous things the main characters did to each other. They’re exes, back in the Maldives again, this time with different partners.
The descriptions of the Maldives are stunning. This is a fun getaway type of romance! 4 stars.
Thanks to the publisher and NetGalley I received a complimentary copy of this book. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.
What a great laugh out loud book. Nick Spalding is guaranteed to make you laugh. Would definitely recommend this book
The premise sounded very promising and right up my alley, but unfortunately it wasn't for me.
I could not connect with any of the characters and the situations were just handed to them.
This book was amazing. It was a amazing surprise. First of all, the cover is just so pretty, I had to read it. And the plot is fun, energetic. It was a quick read, perfect for an afternoon reading session.
Absolutely loved the character dynamics and the antics.
Unfortunately, this book wasn't for me.
This is definitely a readable book and would be a great quick holiday read and some parts were humorous but overall, I just found the two main characters extremely annoying and selfish. I felt constantly sorry for the side characters and thought they would be better off without Joel and Amy.
Do not be fooled by the cover, this is far from a second chance romance.
Thank you to the publisher and Netgalley for providing me with a copy to read.
I thought this was fantastic, it was so funny, it had me chuckling to myself throughout. Loved the characters and storyline.
Thank you NetGalley for my complimentary copy in return for my honest review.
Joel is eager to get away from his failing job with his beautiful young girlfriend Cara. He found a dream of a trip to a beautiful island he had visited before - on his honeymoon with his ex-wife. Little does Joel know, his ex-wife Amy is also planning on a trip with her new fiancé to the same beautiful island. Inevitably the couples meet face to face and as much as they try, cannot stay out of each other's way and enjoy the vacation.
There were several laugh-out-loud funny parts to this book, especially when Amy and Joel are pranking each other. I appreciated the perspective about past relationships and feelings that may still be there even though the relationship is irretrievably broken.
Really enjoyed this book! Such a fun read with great character development! Such a fun one and great to grab!
Very cute, the enemies and lovers vibe always makes for a fun read. It was surface level, but sometimes a surface level read is necessary!
Nick is an author who writes so incredibly well about the painful, wonderful, humdrum, exciting lives of people you can relate to. Devoured in one sitting, You Again served up proper roll-down-the-cheeks tears of laughter and then of empathy. If you enjoy reading something funny with a twist, then this is the book for you.
A good read..The story is funny, quirky and full of good humour as Joel and his new partner unexpectedly meet up with his ex wife and her new partner on what should have been a romantic holiday in the Maldives. Things go from bad to worse for him during the week but can they eventually becomes friends and finally settle their differences .I really enjoyed it
I didn't even make it through the first chapter. The man clearly hates his ex-wife, he was just spitting vitriol constantly through the whole 10 pages I probably managed. Maybe if I'd pushed through I'd of found some charm in it and appreciated the process of them falling back in love, but what I was reading screamed so much of that "my bitch ex-wife" attitude I wasn't willing to continue.
Seems unrealistic that two people who hate each other that much could fall back in love, at least not in a healthy way. Your ex is your ex for a reason, remember that.
