Thoroughly enjoyed. The scenery, the characters and story. Nice to pick up a book and finish with a smile.
Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for my digital copy in exchange for an honest review. I requested this book because I have read many others by this author and loved every single one. They are all amazing with characters I would really like to get to know in real life :) I loved everything about this one...the characters, the story line, and the setting. They don't always have personal growth or deep story lines but they all make me laugh out loud and they all make me feel something. I will eventually read every book by this author :)
"The Family You Make" (Sunrise Cove Book 1) by Jill Shalvis was a fantastic read. I loved Levi and Jane's story. This story had entertaining characters, family, close friends, romance, passion, second chances, and more. This was a fabulous start to this series. I'm looking forward to reading more of this series. Highly recommend it to all fans of romance, family, friends, and series
This book was received as an ARC from William Morrow and Custom House - William Morrow Paperbacks through Netgalley in exchange for an honest review. Opinions and thoughts expressed in this review are completely my own.
I can see how and why Jill Shalvis is a NYT Bestselling Author. Especially, during this difficult time, we all need some positivity in our lives. Levi and Jane's love story screams positivity. They started as perfect strangers then, sure enough, your family has expectations they expect you to live up to, then comes the perfect lie. This time, this perfect lie turns into the perfect destiny. Serendipity as one might put it. After Janes spends time with Levi's family, she fall in love with the family, the lifestyle, and Levi himself. I was worried that Jane would get too consumed with the lifestyle and the family that he love for Levi will not be apparent. I am so glad I was wrong. Love is strength, powerful, triumphant, and destiny. Levi and Jane's love story is no exception, and it comes when least expected. A brilliant, romantic, love story for the ages.
The perfect Hallmark-like love story to read when you lose hope, and need a reminder that all is possible. This book deserves 5 stars.
I loved this book it is the first book in the Sunrise Cove Series I really loved Levi and Jane's story I also would love to live in Sunrise Cove, I can't wait to read more by Jill!
Jane and Levi meet in a gondola that almost falls and then Jane agrees to be his fake girlfriend for his parents anniversary dinner. ARC from NetGalley.
Jill is a delight to the romance community and never disappoints with her fantastic characters and their communities that pull you in.

The Family You Make (Sunrise Cove #1). By Jill Shalvis. 2022. William Morrow Paperbacks (ARC eBook).
Sometimes people do crazy things when they think they only have moments to live. Levi and Jane find this out when they are stranded together on a ski lift in severe weather. Overall, The Family You Make is full of likable characters and heartwarming moments. There is also a secondary romance, small town charm and family shenanigans. Shalvis, as always, writes really well and weaves a balance of emotion and levity deftly. A solid start to a new series.
I loved this book! Levi and Jane were perfect. This had so much heart and humor - it shows exactly why I love Jill Shalvis!
Jane and Levi's near death experience and "meet-cute" of sorts started this wonderful fake-relationship romance!
I loved this romance book! The characters were great, the storyline was wonderful, and the feel-good feelings I got while reading The Family You Make were heart felt!
Author Jill Shalvis has always been one of my top authors to read! This book is a perfect example of why! I just loved everything about this one! Definitely recommend!
Wow, two people meeting for the first time and almost dying together can really lead to some interesting and varied experiences it seems. Jill Shalvis strikes again with a new series and the series begins with a terrifying story of two people that are about to die and find a way to connect in the most unexpected of ways. Levi Cutler is home to visit family and decides to make a quick stop at the ski-slopes before heading there. He never imagined that he would find his life would be in mortal danger when the ski-lift collapses under the weight of ice and snow, with him and his new gorgeous companions Jane taped together. Jane has hoped to make it safely off the mountain before the worst of the storm hit, but instead of trapped in the gondola with the sexy Levi and their connection builds as they face their deaths. When Levi calls his parents, as a goodbye and introduces her as his girlfriend, neither of them understand the consequences when they are saved and have to face the future. Jane agrees to pretend to be his girls for dinner, but soon finds herself falling for Levi and his family and wonders if they might be able to have something real. Levi and Jane spend more and more time together but can they come to terms with their feelings and embrace their new relationship or will they walk away from one what fate has dropped into their laps. Levi was an amazing character and one that I found myself instantly drawn too. He was able to maintain his humor and cool in even the most terrifying and deadly of situations and he even managed to keep Jane calm when she was losing it. I loves that his first instinct was to reach out and say goodbye to his loved ones, but not to let them know that was what he was doing, making it clear he was a loving and devoted son and knew the importance of family. Jane has had a rough life, and been alone for far too long, but even she can see how great Leviโs family is and knows that she owes him a little bit for the way he offered his care when they were on the brink of death. She was sweet and so lost as she was embraced by Leviโs family, and I loved watching her find a way to enjoy the love they so freely offered her. This story was one filled with pain, laughter, and love in all its forms and I am looking forward to seeing when Jill takes us in this all new series about small towns and the love that is so prevalent in them.
I found a new amazing series! This was my first book by Jill Shalvis but won't be my last for sure! This picturesque setting of Lake Tahoe was so easy to imagine in my head because I've been there many times. In fact, after reading this I definitely want to head back to Tahoe Rim Trail! The characters were so vivid, I could totally imagine myself as a nurse staying with Charlotte and Jane with hunky Dr. Mateo next door. This contemporary romance had love in the air but also just life! I was teary eyed through the beginning of this book and WOW, was that an opener or what!? Just got better from there.
I loved this book. I'm always happy for a new Jill Shalvis book; she never disappoints. I'm so happy this is the start of a new series because I can't wait to catch up with these characters again!

I always enjoy a good fake dating trope, and this feel-good romance does this exceptionally well. This is the first book of a new series by Jill Shalvis and the first of her novels I have read. I loved that this story takes place in beautiful Lake Tahoe, even though my skiing days are long over,
The opening scene with Jane and Levi trapped in a ski gondola was a harrowing start to their relationship and a great way for two people to quickly form a bond. The characters introduced after their rescue are well developed, and I am sure many readers hope the next book focuses on Jane's roommate, Savannah, and her neighbor, Mateo.
Recommend for those who love escaping into a world of feel-good romances โespecially in a series where you can revisit your favorite characters and towns. I'm looking forward to book #2 of Sunrise Cove.
I really enjoy Shalvis's writing! She does such a great job capturing each character's personality and give us sweet romances to go with. I always look forward to her books!
I really loved this book. The characters are great and the chemistry was very present. I can't wait for the next book bu Jill she usually writes very good books.
The Family you Make is such a fun book.
Picture this, you're near beautiful Lake Tahoe, a blizzard is taking place and the ski lift you're in loses power so you're stranded in it with a handsome man and he's reassuring you the crazily rocking with the high wind car isn't going to have the cable snap on it.
This is the start of a "pretend" romance who his parents believe, you are "the one".
How to not disappoint them when it's not a real romance but he's a fun guy and he's starting to look better all the time and those feelings you have for him, well they are starting to feel more real by the minute.
We see the value of family here and relationships.

I was given a complimentary copy of this book.
All opinions expressed are my own.
The Family You Make by Jill Shalvis is the heartwarming introduction to Sunrise Cove, a beautiful community near Lake Tahoe. It is a story about forgiveness, friendship, and learning to love. Above all, it is a story about families. The kind you are born into, and the kind you make.
I loved the easy friendship that grew between Jane and Levi. A friendship that quickly becomes something more as they begin to trust each other.
But it was the other relationships in this book that really stood out. Levi and his father. Jane and Charlotte, Charlotte and Mateo. Levi and Mateo. Jane and her grandfather. I could go on,
Shalvis made each relationship feel real, complicated yet solid. I appreciated the light touch to the complex relationships.
Overall, it was a satisfying story with lots of humor. I laughed out loud nearly every time Levi's niece was on the page. And the snowy, winter setting was vividly described, almost a character in its own right.
I look forward to revisiting Sunrise Cove in future books!
Thanks to NetGalley, William Morrow and Custom House, and William Morrow Paperbacks. I received an Advance Digital Copy in exchange for an honest review.
Oh, and one more LOL quote: "'Oh to be a cat and simply slap the shit out of anything I don't like.'"
Overall, I did enjoy this book and look forward to the next installment in the Sunrise Cove series.
I admit, I love all things Jill Shalvis. I love all her books, I might be a bit biased. This one did not disappoint. This is a new series set in Sunrise Cove. Again, such a cute name for a placeโฆ.just like all her other settings. Jane and Levi face a heart stopping ordeal and in the process, Levi makes Jane his fake girlfriend to make his family feel better. However, when everyone is safe, Leviโs family now wants to meet this girlfriend. Jane is not thrilled about the development but is willing to go along with the plan. Jane experiences family as she never has and feelings start to grow.
This book incorporates friendship, family, romance and second chances. Jane and Charlotteโs friendship is as much a part of the story as the romance is. The characters are not perfect, but that is part of the charm. If you need a heartwarming story, pick up this book. This book would also make for a cozy read during a blizzard, but itโs April, so I think the blizzards are done. I also love the message about how family can be who you pick. Overall, a solid pick for your next contemporary romance and a fun start to a new series.
This was my first book by Jill Shalvis (late to the party, I know) and what an amazing first book. This was such a great, feel good, emotional book. Every character, every relationship had such depth and emotion to it and I absolutely loved every minute and every page of it. From Levi and Jane, to Jane and Lloyd, to Charlotte and Mateo, I devoured every page. From our main storyline perspective if you enjoy the fake dating trope this is a 5 star book. It just warms your heart from the first page. Then moving on to the family dynamics from the perspective of the different families I can definitely see this book being one of my top reads of the year. We have Jane's background, the background with Levi and his family, the family Jane has built in Tahoe herself, this is a phenomenal emotional book and I cannot wait for more from this series.
