The personal meet Levi and Jane had turns to Jane and Tarzan jokes.. A romance built under scarey circumstances, independent Jane refuses to take Levi(Tarzan) seriously as he tries to calm her in the ski lift accident. The two are stranded during the snowstorm of a lifetime and only the two are stranded alone in that one ski lift.
Is it goodbye as he is semi conscience and hurt and asks Jane to pull out his cellphone .He wants to call his mother, which was to be a goodbye, turns into a family affair hearing the conversation ,wanting to know who the female voice is in the background. Levi doesnt have the heart telling his mother goodbye ,so he lets her beleive he does have his girlfreind with him.
A pretend girlfreind that is.. Jane hasn't any family except Grandpa. Lost ties between them, Jane's pride has to erase so she can bring back one family member back. to her life.
She is jealous how Levi's family are close to each other,Levi there temporarily sleeping on his parents sofa.
Jane and Levi both have plans to leave Lake Tahoe as soon as their commitments there are over, including Jane being the pretend girlfreind for his parents fortieth wedding anniversary dinner.
Is it really a pretend love life the two have going though?
This is a delightful story, makes you laugh , cringe, and not want to put the book down!
My first Jill Shalvis book , Book #1 of Sunrise Cover Series and looking forward to #2 !
Thank you NetGalley and HarperLux Publishing for this ACR,for my own personal book review.
This is a romance with a predictable premise but it is a very enjoyable read with great characters and a fun story. A couple meets when they are in a life threatening situation and this leads to them having a fake romance and engagement. As expected, the relationship quickly becomes real to the couple but neither wants to admit it. It's an entertaining read and I recommend it to anyone looking for a light, entertaining, feel-good book.
What an absolutely charming story! I adored Levi and Jane as they dealt with their pasts and found friendship and love in each other. Jill Shalvis has a special knack at creating hilariously quirky characters and this story definitely has plenty of them. The Family You Make is heart-warming, funny, charming and romantic. It reminds us that family is not only made up of the people you are related to, but the people you love.
You cannot go wrong with a Jill Shalvis book. The cozy and comforting feelings her stories invoke are not easily matched by other authors. I adored Levi and Jane (and Charlotte and Mateo!). Life is not about the family you are born into, but the family you make and that hits home in this sweet read. Jill never disappoints!
I absolutely loved this book. 5 stars! It's about Jane and her past. How she can overcome hardships that she has let affect her relationships. How to let others love her and her return thier love. I cried at parts that hit home. Laughed multiple times...but that's part of life, right? I look forward to more in this series.
This is a good story about how the past affects our present and how hard it is to open up to love again. We follow the lives of three main characters, with one couple's initial encounter being a few hours of wondering if they are ever going to see the next morning.
I'm a bit back and forth on my enjoyment level of this. The writing is very good, but I felt that the two main male characters could have been the same person and so could the two female characters, if you only look at how they reacted to life.
Overall, though, the setting is lovely and I enjoyed reading about the close-knit family side of the story.
Such an interesting storyline with some of the best characters created by Jill Shalvis. Jane and Levi seem to have absolutely nothing in common and yet they fit like a puzzle. Jill Shalvis must have envisioned a type of Cinderella story when she created Jane. And that is why THE FAMILY YOU MAKE is a page turner. The reader quickly becomes attached to Jane and really wants her life to take a new and better turn.
Jane has no real understanding what a family is. She was summarily shipped to and fro a series of relatives. In her eyes they just didn’t want her around. So now as an adult Jane is accustomed to moving around in her career. As a nurse finding opportunities has been rather easy. She doesn’t require a home base. But Jane made friends in the various places she works. That’s because Jane is a lovely, caring women whose career choice suits her even though she avoids making true connections. Jane doesn’t trust people to not just leave her behind.
Levi and Jane meet under odd circumstances. Both sharing a ski gondola during a blizzard. Winds causing their car to whip around and unfortunately Levi gets hurt. Luckily Jane can handle helping Levi while keeping her mind off the scary situation they are in. Jane quickly learns that Levi is intelligent, caring, talkative and lucky. Levi has something that Jane envies, a loving family.
Jane has a habit of shoving her hot-mess-ness deep. Her words not mine. Jane has lived with an envisioned expiration date. People left. So Jane had contracts that had an end date. She chose to leave. So important to this woman who lived life with few if any long-term connections.
Levi on the other hand feels like he doesn’t fit with his family. And it would seem that misery does love company. THE FAMILY YOU MAKE concentrates on more than one couple. Jill Shalvis figured the more the better and so there more than one couple shares the journey. So we are treated to four folks having major difficulty deciding whether they are a couple. Vintage Jill Shalvis.
The family you make just might be one of Jill Shalvis best. I may have said that before, so I apologize in advance. Each character in a story by Jill Shalvis jumps off the page. Dialog that feels so real by folks that become important. The characters in THE FAMILY YOU MAKE are going to make you laugh, cringe, and sigh. After all central to this book is family and the author challenges you to define what a family is. Fans of Jill Shalvis are going to simply adore the characters and their relationship and personalities in THE FAMILY YOU MAKE. I guarantee it.
You know you are going to get a fun, breezy romance with Jill Shalvis, and THE FAMILY YOU MAKE is no exception. I knew that if I picked up this book I'd have a great time reading it. I enjoyed Levi and Jane, and the backstory of Charlotte and Mateo is super adorable. All of the characters have unique voices, which I really don't know how she does after having written so many books. Shalvis consistently delivers lovable characters, interesting and believable conflicts and tropes, and just an all-around good time. Well written, and as usual, a recommended CR read.
Two love stories combine to create a simply excellent novel. Levi and Jane meet in a terrifying way-stuck in a gondola during a raging snow storm. Each has a sad story to tell that has inhibited both from seeking love. Mateo and Charlotte are surgeons that live next door to each other. He is hers for the taking but she is not receptive. In all their cases, something’s got to give. I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
I absolutely loved Levi and Jane's story. As an added bonus following Charlotte and Mateo what a hoot. To see the women's trust blossom and the men's patience was so wonderful. Jill Shalvis will always be the author to beat. Sorry the book ended.
I received an advance copy of, The Family You Make, by Jill Shalvis. Jane and Levy did not have a meet cute. Jane was not looking for love, not with her history. it was a ok book, it would of been better with out the vulgar language.
This is my second Jill Shavis novel and now I need to read all of them!
BRB while I go buy all of her books!
I absolutely loved this book! So heartwarming and meaningful! You will fall in love with the characters and be so invested in their journeys to healing and opening their hearts again. I really loved that there were multiple romantic relationship stories woven into this one book. Her books feel like a warm and comforting hug. I’m obsessed!
Thank you to NetGalley and HarperCollins for the advanced reader copy.
The Family You Make is charming, sweet and so much fun. Levi has more family than he would like sometimes. While Jane doesn't have any family at all. They meet in on gondola in the middle of a storm, and get a little banged up. Even in that awful experience the sparks between these two are there. They start to fake date to appease Levi's family but their connection grows the closer they get. The Family you make is all about the people you surround yourself with and following your heart. I loved this sweet story!
Another winner by Jill Shalvis! An emotional story about friendships, families found and families made, trust issues, new friendships, and more, set in beautiful Sunrise Cove, near Lake Tahoe. Jane, a traveling nurse, meets Levi, a data scientist, stranded in a gondola during a bad snowstorm. Things aren’t looking good. Jane has no one to inform and Levi can’t bring himself to say goodbye to his own family, so he tells a little white lie. Once the two are rescued, the lie sets off a series of events that include a fake girlfriend and meddling from Levi’s family.
Jane has trust issues and doesn’t do relationships, but she can’t deny an attraction to Levi. Her saving grace is that she’ll soon be leaving on a new assignment. Levi is scheduled to leave soon, also, but is suddenly finding that the family he was so eager to get away from years ago isn’t so bad to be around after all.
There’s also the story of Charlotte, Jane’s one true friend, and Mateo, Levi’s one-time best friend. Charlotte also has trust issues but is finding it hard to ignore her growing feelings for Mateo, who happens to be a co-worker and neighbor, and who is always doing annoying things like shoveling her driveway and walkway. How dare he?
Can the two friends overcome their fear of relationships and find true love?
I was given an advance copy from NetGalley, and William Morrow or Custom House. This review is my honest opinion.
A quintessential Jill Shalvis tale of hope from tragedy. Levi and Jane have the bad luck of meeting during a freak snowstorm, both traveling down the ski mountain in a gondola that takes a wild ride. But with injuries comes a connection that neither one of them ever saw coming. Can the nomad traveling nurse finally feel like she has a place to call home? Or will the connection they feel only last until her duty on the mountain is up? With beautifully written characters and a storyline that has more than just angst and emotion this was a fabulous start to a new series. In true Jill Shalvis style the reader is given backstories that lock them in a leave them wanting more.
In this brand new series from the wonderful Jill Shalvis, we are introduced to two very different people whom you would never think would get together.
When a snowstorm hits a ski resort, hometown boy Levi and visiting nurse Jane are trapped in a ski lift gondola on the way back down the mountain when tragedy strikes. Levi is injured and both think they are going to die, so he calls his family to say goodbye. Only he can’t do it because he doesn’t want to hurt them, so instead, he lies and tells them he is with his new girlfriend Jane, skiing.
After the two are rescued and seen to at the hospital, Levi’s family arrives immediately wanting to meet Jane, who has been discharged home. After he’s discharged, Levi seeks Jane out and asks for a favor – pretend to be his girlfriend just until his parents 40t wedding anniversary dinner is over. Reluctantly, Jane agrees.
I say reluctantly because Jane doesn’t do relationships – fake or otherwise.
Abandoned by her family when she was a child she grew up knowing people leave, she was never good enough for anyone to stay for, and it is always better to be the one to leave a situation than the one left.
The Family You make is quintessential Shalvis. Witty banter, heartwrenching emotions and backstories, and a loving family – both the kind you’re born into and the one you choose.
I loved this book and can’t wait to read the next in the series.
Thanks to Netgalley and William Morrow for a sneak peek. 5 stars.
The Family You Make by Jill Shalvis Enjoyable romantic story with two couples, Levi and Jane and Mateo and Charlotte. Both couples are perfect for each other, they just have to overcome personal past issues to trust their feelings. Both Levi and Mateo are extremely patient, understanding and totally supportive of Jane and Charlotte. First in a new series, looking forward to reading more about the couples' family members and wondering if Tess will be next to find happiness.
Thank you to the author, publisher and NetGalley for the opportunity to preview the book.
Thank you to netgalley for the ARC. I love Jill Shavlis and this new one did not disappoint. It mostly focuses on Jane and Levi but also has a side story about Matteo and Charlotte. Both women are scared to let love in but the men help to break down their Defenses.
Love this new title from Jill Shalvis. Jane is a very buttoned-up professional woman, a nurse, who has not had a warm family life. During the course of an accident, she meets Levi, who asks her to pose as his girlfriend for just one dinner. Well, things go from there in a very heartwarming and humorous way. I look forward to recommending this title to readers who enjoy authors like Elin Hilderbrand, Susan Mallery, Sarah Morgan, and Mary Alice Monroe.
I really enjoyed this book. Jill Shalvis is one of my favorite authors. This book was full of family, laughter, and sadness. My favorite character was Peyton. She is really talkative, curious about everything, and adorable. I can picture the scenery of Lake Tahoe. It's going on my bucket list. I am glad I got to read this in exchange for an honest review from netgalley.
