I wanted to read this book because the title amused me, but in fact as I read it the metaphors and ‘imagine you had a baby/a motorbike/etc’ began to be a bit annoying and didn’t actually aid my understanding of the issues. I think this book wasn’t for me, though I appreciated what it was trying to do.

The idea around an 'ugly baby' is about a business only its mother (owner) could love. This book is conversational and takes the baby analogy throughout, while focusing on important issues such as staffing, operations, marketing, leadership, and strategic planning. There are many business books on the market, so the author has clearly approached this one differently. It's an easy book to read and implement strategies from. I would recommend it, especially to those with minimal business education. Thanks to NetGalley for a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
