Thank you to Netgalley and Viz Media for providing me with a digital version of this manga.
This manga had me smiling throughout. The fact that the love triangle was going in every direction was something I personally hadn’t read before and I was obsessed. Not only was it incredibly cute, but it also had me giggling throughout. Having a presumably Bi main character was wonderful to see and was quite possibly my first time seeing it canon in a manga. This meant a lot and I loved how we got to watch the main character grow and understand the way he feels.
Separate from the story, the art was beautiful! It complimented the characters and was the added touch that made this story an incredible read.
I loved it
Thank you for NetGalley for a review copy of this title.
Once I finished this manga, I knew that it would be one of those titles that are frequently checked out by high school students.
This is one of those lovely romantic comedies that features so many misunderstandings that you can't help but smile. Boy likes girl. Boy borrows that girl's eraser with another boy's name on it with a heart. Boy is crushed, but boy who is object of girl's affection sees this boy using said eraser with HIS NAME ON IT! What?!!? Let the hilarity ensue! Just your standard case of mistaken identity!
The use of internal monologue over the action ensures that the readers see what is going on while the characters remain blissfully ignorant.
Bonus for a fun theater scene with characters called to be understudies when the leads are ill!
The best part is the surprise at the conclusion of this volume!
This first volume is perfect for inclusion in a high school library.
This is exactly up my alley. Person who doesn’t really think they’re gay until Person B confesses to them (usually in a misunderstanding) but completely just rolls with it is my very specific usually limited to manga favorite trope. I also love the funny faces the artist draws for Aoki, they remind me of my childhood friend’s drawings and make me chuckle! So eager to see more of Ida and Aoki.
This is so cute! Aoki's facial expressions during the whole misunderstand are just *chef's kiss* and I'm looking forward to reading the rest of it. I have seen the live-action tv show and LOVED it, so it's fantastic to see the manga that started it. I'm interested to see if it follows the same plot (without googling if it does or not)
Love this story already! So cute, it’s giving me that squishy feeling. I can’t wait to read more. I will be recommending this series for sure!
A delightful first volume that has a really good pace. It introduces the characters and the misunderstanding/love triangle fairly quickly and from then on there’s plenty of humour as Aoki and Ida try to navigate their feelings. It’s quite wholesome and heartwarming!
Honestly, it’s a lot of fun, with a brilliant cast of characters and laugh out loud moments! I can’t wait for more volumes!
I've been wanting to read Kieta Hatsukoi (My Love Mix Up!) for a while, and after watching the utterly adorable live action series I was thrilled to receive a copy of the first book from the publisher. I'm not surprised this series has such good hype surrounding it, because it's easy to recommend such a fun, sweet-natured story! As high school dramas go the plot is rather thin, but the conceit that starts off a series of misconceptions for the main characters does somehow manage to bring out deeper connections for all of them. Aoki is shown to truly consider others' feelings, no matter how convoluted the outcome may be, and Ida is steadfast and given to introspection about what it (friendship? love??) all means. My feelings about the manga are certainly coloured by the live action adaptation, which did a phenomenal job bringing this story to life (and improving on certain parts as well), but I think this stands well on its own too, with basic but expressive character designs and a feel good romantic comedy plot that makes you want to know what happens next. I would absolutely recommend this to younger teens and tweens, as well as anyone wanting a bit of fluff on their bookshelf. Can't wait to read vol 2!
Super cute and one of the funniest twist endings I have seen in a good minute, it made me laugh. I think it is a promising series, and I like that it deals with LGBT+ issues in a positive way, unlike a lot of manga that is not strictly boys love.
Much like My Love Story!! (which was also drawn by Aruko), My Love Mix-up gleefully tweaks its nose at the conventions of shojo manga high school romance stories and comes up with a story that's both hilarious and heartfelt. I've read 3 volumes so far and I"m just hooked.
Hapless high schooler Aoki has a crush on his female classmate Hashimoto, but due to a misunderstanding that started from a name on an eraser, his classmate Ida who sits in front of him gets the impression that Aoki is romantically interested in him. Aoki's expressions of horror and embarrassment whenever he has to deal with Ida and Hashimoto just crack me up, and the love mix-ups get even more fun in volume 2 and 3.
Worth a look if you're a fan of shojo manga and boys love manga, and enjoy reading something fresh, funny and light-hearted.
A very interesting story around young love and coming to terms with sexuality during high school. This was a very refreshing take, where the characters are open minded.
Super cute and very funny. I felt for all the characters and loved how the friendships developed. Can't wait to pick up the second volume!
Thank you, VIZ Media, for allowing me to read My Love Mix-Up!, Vol. 1!
I requested this manga on a whim because I wanted to read something light and I was surprisingly happy by how cute this was. The art is phenomenal as well! Going to continue the series very soon.
I received an eARC of this title through NetGalley in return for an honest review.
This manga is adorable! The main character Aoki accidentally falls in love after a big mix up happens. When I first started reading this, I was worried where the story was going. However, by the end, it was honestly one of the sweetest things I have read in a long time. Aoki discovers in the first volume that he is bisexual and his friends, when they find out, essentially make him feel like it is not a big deal and make him feel valid in his feelings.
Not only is the main character just a sweet (for lack of better term) cinnamon roll, but the other characters are also well rounded. Aoki makes friends with Hashimoto who has a crush on someone else. They bond over not feeling comfortable expressing their feelings and cheer each other on in a really beautiful way.
If you want a book where you can go from laughing out loud to making "awwww" noises, this is the manga for you.
Thanks to NetGalley and Viz Media for sending me a copy of this volume in exchange for a review.
I totally loved this manga. It had me laughing the whole way through.
The reactions to the multiple confessions and the cultural festival, everything made me feel light and helped me unwind after a long day. All the characters were likable and I was waiting for that HEA. That didn't happen this volume (although the ending was pretty funny) but hopefully I get to read it when I pick up volume 2.
This was such a surprising and heart warming title. Much cuter than I expected. I know there is a love mix up but the ending of volume 1 actually kind of caught me off guard which is a great thing. It has some of the same tropes you would get with your standard BL but with a more modern take on relationships and I truly did enjoy the entire volume.
This was cute! The situations Aoki finds himself in are hysterical and heartwarming all-in-one. He can be a bit much, but he's a really great guy trying to figure out why his feelings are changing direction. Ida is a champ.
I find it funny that Cinderella is really popular in shoujo school festivals, but I digress. It'd be great to get more into Ida's head in the next volume, but we'll see:)
Thanks to Viz Media and Netgalley for letting me read this! All opinions expressed are my own.
I enjoyed this first volume and ended up purchasing it for my library. I thought the plot was unique (I was expecting that ending) and the main character was funny/relatable.
I have never been so surprised by how much i truly enjoyed every page of this little manga. It all felt so real and all the characters are easy to keep tabs on and fall in love with. I cannot wait to see where this wonderful miscommunication romance manga goes!
This was a really cute manga! I really enjoyed the story and the artwork was great too. Overall, I think if you are into BL or romances that this one will be right up your alley!
If you like miscommunication as a trope, have I got a manga for you!
Very cute manga (with some very cringe moments)! The artwork is enjoyable and you root for the characters even then you want them to do something else.
