How can you not be drawn to this book from that absolutely stunning cover! I do have to admit I have absolutely no interest in art so I found this book hard to read for that reason. I did enjoy the alternating timelines and the years were particularly interesting years to be invested in. It was also very neat to find out some of this was true!

Mystery, romance and drama all woven together in the setting of the Frick mansion in New York City. Historical fiction fans can’t go wrong with Fiona Davis.

Told in dual timelines, we get the story of Lillian, a child model that was left alone after her mother died. She was very reliant on her mother for everything, and is now adrift. Plus, she's on the run after being a suspect in her landlord's wife murder (I didn't love this part - it seemed too contrived). She ends up at the Frick mansion where they accidentally think she's interviewing for the role of Miss Helen's private secretary. She ends up getting the job and then has to figure out how to keep lots of secrets.
Jump ahead about 50 years or so and Veronica is a British model who is at the Frick mansion for a photo shoot as a model. She walks off the set and somehow finds herself stranded at the mansion during a blizzard. She ends up finding clues for a scavenger hunt from long ago and while the storyline was interesting, it seemed a little far-fetched at times.
Overall, there are aspects of the book that were really well done and were interesting and there were other parts that were a little bit out there.

This is another great book by Fiona Davis. This time the book centers on the Frick Mansion in NYC and the timelines are 1900s and 1960s. You learn about the famous art collection in this one. Definitely another fun read!

Another marvelous book by Fiona Davis - this book centers around the Frick Museum and the Frick family. The book involves family drama, art, murder, and intrigue. The dual storylines (1919 and 1966) are perfectly written and complement each other. In the 1919 storyline, we meet Lillian Carter who finds herself working for Miss Helen Frick, and in 1966 we have Veronica and Joshua who work together to uncover the mysteries of the Frick Museum.
I thoroughly enjoyed this book and was pleasantly surprised by the ending and I think anyone who enjoys art and historic fiction would love this book too.

This book take me some time to get into but it was really good. It was told from dual timelines and I didn't see the end coming until I was very close to the end. It was an interesting look at that era and the prejudices and expectations of women that are still unfortunately with us today.

The book was very interesting and different in a good way! I enjoyed reading a book based upon a real place! Excellent!

Fiona Davis creates immersive novels where New York architecture is one of the main characters. Her descriptions of historical buildings are interwoven with an elaborate historical mystery. I sunk my teeth into this mystery about the Frick Museum with dual timelines regarding a model accused of murder who works at the Frick museum. Even better than her luscious description of the Frick museum, Davis has a knack for creating unique prickly characters like Helen Frick even though she was a difficult person to like. I enjoyed the cleverness of the 1966 story line where Veronica attempts to solve the mystery during a scavenger hunt to find a missing Frick family heirloom. Thanks Netgalley and Penguin for the ARC.

The Magnolia Palace by Fiona Davis is a captivating read that will enthrall fans of historical fiction, art history, and mystery, as it masterfully weaves together the intricate lives of two women, separated by decades, yet connected by the enigmatic Frick family and the secrets hidden within the walls of their iconic Manhattan mansion.

Thank you to PENGUIN GROUP Dutton and to NetGalley for an ARC of this book.
I love books by Fiona Davis and have read many of them. And loved them all, This book was no exception.
This book was part Historical Fiction and part Mystery, and I loved every minute of it. Also, all of her books take place in New York City which I also love.
This book was great from start to finish and I would highly recommend it!

A remarkable story well told. Fiona Davis makes her characters seem so real and this story kept me interested from cover to cover. I highly recommend this book. Her use of real places makes history come to life.

Love me a mansion/family with secrets! Especially if murder is one of them. This one is more historical fiction and mystery, but Davis really builds suspense with her writing.

Thank you for giving me the opportunity to read this book! I can't believe it took me this long to properly write a review, but I adore every single book Fiona Davis writes. Her details and descriptions and characters are perfect and enjoyable, and I look forward to her stories. She paints New York as a romantic, beautiful place with hidden and important histories that need to be shared.

Fiona Davis is an awesome author. I am not a huge fan of dual timelines, but this book worked! Wonderful characters and descriptions.
I recommend you read this book!!
Thank you to Net Galley for providing me with a e-book copy in exchange for my honest review!

I absolutely love every aspect of a Fiona Davis novel and The Magnolia Place is a perfect example. The way she weaves the historical New York landmark and the story of the people involved with a more current second timeline is always a fantastic ride for me. She is one of my favorite and most recommended authors!

Told in alternating perspectives in 1919 and 1966, a decades long mystery involving the Frick Collection and a mysterious diamond unfolds.
I started off really liking this creative historical fiction novel, but the pacing dragged by around the 40% mark for me. Some of Lillian's chapters started to get particularly lengthy and repetitive and had the book been 50 or so pages shorter it would have been perfect. Overall I liked the story and the characters and the conclusion was nice and tidy.

Fiona writes the best historical fiction….set in such a beautiful setting, in such a vibrant city, what more could you ask..

The Magnolia Palace is a fine read but it's not my typical choice. Most of the characters and relationships felt one dimensional so it was hard to get into the story. The romance subplots are underwhelming as well as the mystery over the stolen diamond and the murder. Wish this had been more engaging than it was.

I saw this book advertised on BOTM and I knew that I wanted to give it a go. It is defiantly a winner for historical fiction fans! Thank you netgalley for this copy!

Fiona Davis’ books are positively lovely tales with just the right amount of contemporary and historical elements. Both timelines are entertaining and engaging, which I feel is particularly important when it comes to the historical part of the story. I can’t wait for her next book.
