Missing at Christmas by K.D. Richards is the second book in her West Investigations romantic suspense series. While this is the second book, it is a standalone read, with heroes from the first and third books making appearances.
In Missing at Christmas, nineteen-year-old Cassie Willams goes missing. When her older sister, Addy Williams goes to the police for help, she’s turned away because everyone questioned says Cassie returned to Manhattan, New York, and just doesn’t want to talk to Addy. Addy knows this isn’t true. The sisters are close and the only family they have is each other. Addy decides that if the police aren’t going to locate her sister, she will.
Addy spends a couple of days questioning people around her sister’s apartment and places Cassie may hangout with no luck. The last person Addy expects to see in Bentham, New York is Shawn West, the man with whom she shared an incredible weekend six months earlier. Shawn isn’t just passing through Bentham. He’s actually in town doing an investigation for one of West Investigations' top clients. When Shawn finds out that Cassie is missing and was working for the company he’s investigating, he offers to help Addy look for her sister without revealing his true motives.
I LOVED Missing at Christmas. I was hooked from the opening paragraph. K.D. has written a story with twists, turns, and surprises. Shawn was a good character but Addy was amazing. She seems unassuming, but she’s anything but. I loved her calmness and steadfast determination. If all of K.D.’s books are like this, then she definitely has a new fan in me. I’m looking forward to going back to read the first book, Pursuit of the Truth, as well as the third book, Christmas Data Breach, and the upcoming fourth book, Shielding Her Son.

I read a lot of different genres, but romantic suspense is right up at the top of my favorites. Missing at Christmas is heavier on the suspense than the romance, which is a bit of slow burn, but the story is full of action and drama, and the pacing kept the pages turning. I really liked this couple, and Addy is my favorite type of heroine - she's capable, strong, and determined. There's no swooning, which is a great big plus for me. She and Shawn have good chemistry, and with everything going on in the book, I enjoyed the slow burn romance. This is the second in the West Investigations series, but it works well as a standalone.
Shawn West is a private investigator on his latest case in New York when he saves a woman from an attack. Imagine his surprise when he discovers that the woman he saved is one he met at his brother's wedding. In fact, the woman made a deep impression on him but he thought he'd never see her again. Her name is Addy Williams and she is looking for her younger sister. Addy had stopped hearing from her and is more than a bit worried.
Addy asks Shawn for his help and he agrees, but with a caveat. He wants to use the search as a cover in his investigation. Addy is glad to accept his terms because her own search is going nowhere. The two make a fine pair and I love how Addy held her own no matter the danger facing them.
In this fast-pace story Addy and Shawn work well together. As they focus mostly on the search, the attraction they share is undeniable, although that is not the fous of the story. The chemistry is already there, so factor in tension, action and suspense, Missing at Christmas is a well-rounded story.
K.D. Richards brings the heat, danger and suspense in her latest novel for Harlequin Intrigue, Missing at Christmas.
Addy Williams is absolutely desperate to find her missing sister and bring her home for Christmas. Having turned upstate New York upside down to find her sibling, Addy will not stop until she has been reunited with her beloved sister. However, her search for her sibling is going to lead her down one dangerous avenue after another that will plunge her headlong into a terrifying situation that nearly costs her her life. Luckily for her, private investigator Shawn West was close by and he rescued her in the nick of time. But this isn’t the first time that Addy and Shawn had crossed paths.,,
The moment Shawn spotted that somebody was in distress, he showed no fear or hesitation and jumped in immediately to rescue them – and got the shock of his life when the woman he saved was none other than Addy Williams. Shawn and Addy share a history and she was the only woman he had ever met who had managed to get under his skin and breach the defenses he had built around himself. Addy is the one woman he has never quite managed to forget and when he hears about her missing sister, he offers her a deal: he will help her out if she agrees to provide cover for his latest assignment.
Will Addy and Shawn manage to find her missing sister? Or will their investigation be hampered by ruthless criminals – and illicit desire…
Missing at Christmas was my first K.D. Richards book, but it certainly shall not be last. A tense page-turner that exquisitely blends nail-biting tension with sizzling chemistry, heart-pounding romance and shocking twists and turns, Missing at Christmas will keep readers absolutely glued to its pages and eagerly awaiting K.D. Richards’ next chilling tale of romantic suspense.
Missing at Christmas if the second book in the West Investigations series. It is definitely OK as a stand alone. I didn't read the first one, but I didn't feel lost. If you read this one, definitely go in for the mystery alone. I liked that aspect. It was fairly fast paced and I was intrigued. However, don't really expect romance. I felt exactly zero chemistry between Shawn and Addy. I just never bought into them as a couple. It could have been left at just friends and the book would have been fine.
I really enjoyed this one. Shawn is a Private Investigator who witnesses an attack and steps in to help. He soon gets more than he bargained for when the victim turns out to be Addy Williams, the woman who ghosted him after a weekend of fun at his brothers wedding. She’s in town trying to track down her missing sister and when the details overlap his own case, Shawn steps in to help. Why on earth this is called missing at Christmas I have no idea, I think tinsel is mentioned once in passing! Overall this is a good solid read and has everything you’d expect from a Harlequin intrigue romance.
MISSING AT CHRISTMAS (West Investigations Book #2) by K.D. Richards is another action-packed romantic suspense in the West Investigations series. This book can easily be read as a standalone with minimal crossover of characters from the first West Investigations story.
Private Investigator Shawn West is in upstate New York to investigate the source of counterfeit computer chips for a client. While on his way to his hotel, he sees a woman being attacked and intervenes. He is surprised when the woman turns out to be the one woman he has been unable to get off his mind since he met her at his brother’s destination wedding.
Addy Williams is searching for her missing younger sister. She was doing an internship before attending MIT and has failed to get in touch with Addy. Told her sister quit her internship and moved away, Addy is determined to find her before Christmas. Shawn offers his help Addy for free if he can use their search for her sister as a cover for his own investigation.
Will Addy and Shawn be able to find Addy’s sister before it is too late for them all?
This is the second book in this series I have read by this new to me author and I really enjoyed both. In this book Shawn and Addy work well together with Addy being an intelligent and strong heroine who can hold her own even with firearms. There is strong chemistry between these two, but the two investigations keep their romance to a slow burn. The suspense plot was fast-paced and action packed with a believable crime premise.
This is a well written romantic suspense by a new-to-me author that I will be following in the future.
Addy is going to do whatever she can to find her missing sister. Shawn West is private investigator on is working on a case that seems to be tied to Abby's sister but needs to look further into it. When Addy is attracted Shawn was there to help and now they are working together to find her sister.
This was a great read. I loved following along as they figure out what's goin on with her sister. She's an adult now and going missing can be seen as just about anything else that could be harmless but Addy knows better. I loved how much dedication she was putting into her sister, she could've just sat back and waited to see if her sister comes around or wait for the cops to do something but she did things on her own as much as she could. I really enjoyed seeing how everything played out. Then there is the side romance that's a kind of second chance meeting for Addy and Shawn because she ghosted him but now he is back and that attraction they once had seems to be clearly there. Overall really great book I really enjoyed it
