This is a story about three sisters sent to do their mother’s bidding. The sisters’ character development was well done, along with supporting characters. The only issue with this is that there are three different points of view for the same situation and often you don’t need three different takes in the same event. This ended making the book redundant in some instances and a much longer read. That said, I would still like to read the second book.
This book was intriguing. It pulled me in from the beginning as each of the main characters was sent to a different place with a different mission. I wanted to learn more about each place and the people there. There were some exciting twists and turns with each storyline and the author did a great job weaving them together. It’s definitely worth a read if you read the synopsis and are interested!
This book, at the same time, wasn’t my favorite simply because some parts felt contrived and it had many common YA tropes that I usually like to avoid. YA isn’t my favorite genre so a book has to be highly original to catch my attention and keep it.
One final note on the ending: what a jarring cliffhanger! I like it and hate it at the same time because it was so well done but now I’m dying to know what happens next. Even though this book simply wasn’t for me, there will be many other readers for whom it will hit the spot perfectly.
I was provided with a copy of this book by the publisher through Netgalley in exchange for an honest review.
I was pleasantly surprised by how much I enjoyed reading Castles in their Bones. Each sister was interesting in her own right with her own story. I liked how they all discovered secrets in their own country and how they reached out to each other. It was confusing at times trying to sort through all the names of people, countries, etc.
Spoiler(ish): The ending surprised me by how dark it turned but the twist is interesting! I'll definitely be waiting for the sequel!
Another excellent fantasy of intrigue by Laura Sebastian. Full of cunning female characters and plenty of plot twists, Castles in Their Bones is definitely one for fans of The Winner's Curse and Kiss of Deception.
I really enjoyed this book and I will be keeping an eye on this author for the future. The main plot was a great attention grabber. I also really enjoyed the main characters and there journeys. Great read.
