Aiden Marlowe is grieving his wife Holly who collapsed and died immediately when an unsuspected aneurysm burst, leaving him to raise their seven year old twins. As he is going to the funeral, his phone beeps with a notification and when he looks he realizes that he has won the lottery, thirty million dollars.

Feeling that his family needs to start over, Aiden moves them from Baltimore to a small coastal town an hour or so outside of Boston. The house is a mansion but as soon as he walks into it with his children, they all feel the same thing; the house has a haunted feel. Aiden discovers that the last owner disappeared from the house along with his two daughters and his grandson, never to be heard from again. Knowing he will need help with the children and hoping for something better, he arranges for his father to come over from Ireland to help with the kids and live with them.

But the new house isn't the panacea Aidan had hoped for. He starts to receive notes, anonymous ones saying they were watching him. Each note gets more threatening and soon there are demands for money. Aiden goes to the police but there is little they can do. He hires security but it doesn't seem to ever catch those involved. After his daughter is trapped in the basement during a party Aiden throws, he knows he must do something. Can he discover who is targeting his family?

Carter Wilson is known for writing in the thriller genre. Some of his works have been optioned for tv and movies and he has won numerous awards. In this novel, he lays bare the fears each of us have, that someone could target those we love and we will be helpless to stop them. I listened to this book and the narrator did a great job portraying Aiden's grief, fear and resolution to find those threatening his family. This book is recommended for mystery readers.

✨ first chapters was heartbreaking. Marlowe just lost her wife . Looking after his twins and just in time for the funeral he won a lottery that he is been carrying for a long time.
As he was getting lonely , there are people who wants to be friends with him up until threatening are coming by.
As this goes on, his drinking problem gone so bad and questioning his own sanity.


✨I got to be honest, I nearly DNF this book. The writing was okay but it’s too slow paced for me? It’s like a sentence go by and it coming back again like a repetition of words.

Anyway, it was a good read and will try again this author.

At no point did I see what was coming in this book. I read this one so quickly and then was disappointed it was over. This was one of those books that had me thinking of it long after I’d finished.

This book drew me in from the first page, a psychological thriller that is about healing and moving forward. Marlowe's wife dies and the day of her funeral he finds out he's won the lottery. He decides he and his young twins need a new start so they move the Bury NH. His history haunts him and weird things begin happening in his new house that just don't make sense. This is a definite thriller whodunnit that kept me turning pages well past my bedtime. The way the author wrote about dealing with grief and life trauma will stay with me a long time. How Marlowe releases his grief is interesting and really disturbing. A really edge of you your seat good read!

I'm a sucker for covers and this one really caught my attention AND the plot kept my attention throughout. It was a bit twisted at times but that's what kept it so intriguing. The short chapters also made for a quick read. It was overall an enjoyable read.

I wanted to like this book more than I did. It was a solid read. One that kept me interested for the most part. But in the end, I couldn't give it more than a solid 3. Would have given it a higher rating, if a few chapters were cut out of the book. We've met these people before, their actions weren't new. Some of the choices made were predictable. The twists and turns didn't have the punch that it was meant to have. Still I'd recommend this book.

I was part of the cover reveal for this book, and the synopsis had me hooked. I love a good mystery thriller, so this was right up my alley.

As I got into reading this, it became clear that although it was a good read, it wasn’t what I was expecting. There felt like too much build-up and focus around certain things that ended up not really mattering in the end, and some parts I found repetitive.

I did like that the chapters were short, because it moved the story along quickly, and it was written well enough that it kept me intrigued.

I will probably check out another Carter Wilson book, and I recommend this if you like quick paced mysteries.

It does seem that the new town doesn't really like the idea of him and this builds suspense throughout. The chapters were short and increased the overall speed of the book for me. Recommended.

This was my first book by Carter Wilson and I am intrigued to possibly dive into others. This book was somewhat ordinary, but it was a quick read and it kept me intrigued throughout!

I went into this one blind. I had done a cover reveal for this last year and was sent the book and I’m just now getting to it this month. For some reason, I have an obsession with books that have neighbor in the title, which happens to be a lot!

Synopsis:
Aidan wins the Powerball on the same day that a great tragedy is bestowed on his family. His lottery win is overshadowed by the tragedy and it prompts him to move his family to Bury, Minnesota. Leaving most of their belongings behind he moves his young son and daughter to a mansion. The mansion happens to be the former home of an elite family that has just disappeared. Soon after moving in he is harassed with ominous letters. When he goes to the local police it doesn’t seem much can be done and they ask for personal information from him that sounds out of the ordinary. Every day Aidan stays in the new home in Bury he worries his family is in even more danger.

My thoughts

This did not turn out to be the thriller I had anticipated. It was a little redundant and fell somewhat flat. It does bring up themes of greed, uncontrolled anger, and forgiveness.
One positive of the book was the very short chapters that kept the pace moving throughout the book.

This was a great thriller that had me hooked. I highly recommend this one and I look forward to reading more titles by this author.

The New Neighbor is a.nail biter, tense filled thriller. This one kept me on the edge of my seat. It's a fast read and perfect for thriller lovers. I look forward to more from this author.

This is my first book written by the author ad I wasn't disappointed.

The book tells the story of a man who has just lost his wife and on the day of her death also wins the lottery in a weird twist of luck. Determined to start over in a new place he takes his twins and moves to a small town in a new state.
But this small town has some dark secrets and those secrets want to suffocate him.

This one drew me in immediately and kept me on the edge of my seat! After the brief setup of the story, the mystery gets going right away. I loved how we really got into the head of our MC (who deals with paranoia and hallucinations), and the secondary characters were well-written and dynamic. So to sum it up-This book was good! It started off strong and was fast-paced. Unlikable characters who keep you curious as to their intentions and motives. Lots of family drama with long-buried secrets. What's not to love?

This had such a creepy vibe. Definitely reminded me a bit of The Watcher. I think there’s nothing scarier than feeling like your home isn’t safe. The one place you can rely on to be a safe haven. I was so intrigued throughout wondering where this was going. It didn’t go where i expected but i like when that happens. This was definitely suspenseful and kept me turning the pages.

Talk about a THRILLER and this book is dead on. Very well written complete with goosebumps and TURN THE LIGHTS on moments.

A good read by this author. I definitely recommend checking this one out!
