Thank you PanMacmillan and NetGalley for an ARC of this book.

I give this book 3.5 stars .
I enjoyed the relatable way Dr Gow advised throughout the book, it felt that his health advice was realistic to everyone, rather than “the best” but often unattainable advice which so often sets humans up for failure,
For the me there were many worthy takeaway’s from his book including :
- not being overweight doesn’t exclude fatty liver
- link between fatty liver, insulin and gut flora
- the healthy costs sedentary lifestyles have on liver health
- time to eat is important

A lot of the information in the book won’t be new, if you have an interest in health, for the part the book was a good reminder of the absolute importance of the above takeaways.

There were a lot of studies throughout the book, I often skipped past these as they often had small control groups. Other parts of the book I skipped past were the lists of healthy ingredients, this style of writing doesn’t really do much for me and many books have been there before, from a health perspective, if not specifically for the liver.

Overall I am glad to have read it and seem to continue to take even more care of my liver, moving beyond and deeper than the usual steps of safe alcohol use.

Thanks to #netgalley for the ARC in exchange for a fair and honest review. I had such high hopes for this book- especially being someone who has issues with their liver health. I have read a lot of books and research about liver health and due to this I found a lot of the advice in this book to be what I would consider to be outdated and unfortunately somewhat misleading. Whilst some of the information contained in this book may help some people with liver issues improve the health of their liver, this is not my experience. I have found personally that the health of my liver has improved by following other advice in direct contrast to what is contained in this book. Because of this, I cannot rate it very highly.

This book was written by Dr Paul Gow, a Gastroenterologist. It's much more of a physical health book than a wellbeing/ lifestyle book, obviously with all the emphasis on the liver, but provides implementable strategies and suggestions around diet and lifestyle. I found this book really informative, and inspirational in its motivation to do things differently. Thanks to NetGalley for a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
