Wendy Corsi Staub is known for her "thrill a minute" stories that keep readers hypnotized. Don't look away from the page....you might miss something. When this family begins to feel uncomfortable with the happenings in their house and neighborhood, the question is, are they being stalked by the same killers who struck the other family.
Thanks to NetGalley, BookClubGirl, William Morrow, and Harper Collins for this copy of "The Other Family."
This was my time reading a book by Wendy Corsi Staub and I was suspensefully impressed! It was a gripping page-turner and the shocking ending was seared into my brain!
This story is going for a creep factor with a house that a family has been killed in and now another family is living in that same house. There are several weird characters, overly friendly, a little pushy, kind of off putting. The story just ends without resolution.
It wad a bit slow at first but picked up in the middle. The story line was good but unfortunately knew the ending early on.
I would give this 3.5 out of 5 stars
"The Other Family" by Wendy Corsi Staub is a suspenseful thriller that delivers on its promise of intrigue and mystery. Set in a small town with dark secrets, the novel keeps readers guessing with its twists and turns. Staub's writing is engaging and effectively builds tension throughout the story. However, some readers may find the pacing to be uneven, with certain sections dragging while others feel rushed. Additionally, while the characters are well-developed, their actions at times seem contrived to serve the plot rather than feeling organic. Despite these flaws, "The Other Family" offers an entertaining read for fans of the genre, providing enough suspense to keep readers invested until the final reveal.
I’m not sure how I feel about this one still. I liked it while I was reading it but I found it very forgettable. I did really like the characters and the story line.
I thought this was a pretty well written mystery, and I enjoyed the story even though I thought the pacing was a little slow and some of the reveals took too long to get to. The characters whose points of view are included feel well defined, but some of the other characters come off more like caricatures. Despite that, I did find myself wanting to keep reading and figuring out what happened. There are enough red herrings to keep things interesting here. I also liked the Mememto Mori (Remember you must die) theme throughout the story. Thanks to NetGalley and William Morrow for an advance copy of this book.
2.5 stars!
Unfortunately, this is a disappointing, kind of boring thriller book and I did not enjoy the story as expected.
some characters made no purpose for the story and also there is nothing much happening until the last 100 pages.
a big thumbs down 👎
This novel was super twisty, and it kept me guessing until the very end.
A family moves from the west coast to the east coast following a temporary placement for the job. Luckily the family found the perfect house to rent. However, the house they move into has a dark history surrounding an unsolved triple homicide. The house has stood empty for many years following the murders.
The mystery of the house only expands as strange things start happening around the house. Nora (mom) digs up a rusty box from the flowerbed. Stacey (oldest daughter) who is very interested in true crime, becomes obsessed with the history of the house. However, the more she uncovers, the more convinced she becomes that a stranger is watching the house and following them.
One member of the family will recognize the stranger Stacey is seeing. Because one of them has been keeping a secret for many years. The truth will change the family forever.
This one just didn't do it for me. I felt that there was a lot going on with a lot of people and I personally had a hard time keeping it all straight. Talk of ghosts and Lizzie Borden seemed to rule the roost here and I just couldn't get myself into the story or really care what was happening. I'm sure this worked for some as a twist was revealed at the very end...but it just wasn't for me.
25 years ago a family is murdered in their beds and the killer is never apprehended. Now in the present day, Nora, her husband, and their two daughters move from California to New York for a job opportunity and end up renting this house where the murders occurred, unbeknownst to them.
This story is full of secrets and potentially untrustworthy people. I really liked the premise of this and enjoyed it for the most part except for the ending, I wish that was expanded upon a little more instead of the abrupt way the story came to a close.
This was a multi layered thriller that had me staying up way too late reading! Thank you to Netgalley for my copy.
Psychological thriller?!?! Count me in!! I really enjoyed reading this one! I went in blindly and so glad I did! Highly recommend!!

This is a creepy, twisty story that was very original and intriguing! I cared about the characters and where they would end up. I also liked Staub’s flowing writing style.
An entertaining read, as most psychological thrillers are. I'm a sucker for family drama and this was definitely a great one.
Ok, this is a hard one to rate. I really did enjoy the story. My biggest issue is that I had it pretty much figured out far before it was revealed. The author throws in clues here and there, and you don't really have to pay that close attention to figure it out. I wasn't the hugest fan of the neighbor boy either. I just thought the whole 'tracking" the girl and calling her his GF almost immediately was a bit much. But other than that. The rest ofnthe story was a fun quick read. I like the authors writing and the pacing wad good too. Finished this in one sitting.
3.5 stars
I am a huge fan of psychological thrillers, so I was thrilled for the opportunity to read and review this book. I enjoy family drama, and this one was full of it. There was a lot happening in the first portion of the story that drew me in and kept my attention, but I feel like a lot of the mystery I was able to easily guess. I felt like after a certain point, I started losing interest and the books plot was lacking. There wasn’t enough happening that I didn’t already anticipate.
Wendy Corsi Staub has been one of my favorite authors for many years. I really enjoyed The Other Family with its short chapters and alternating narrators. Can't wait to see what she comes up with next.
I found this book quite unsatisfying in the end based on the numerous plot points that were opened and never fully stretched out. The characters are stifling in their plainness and depressing familial dynamics. There was no emotional connect towards the characters for me, especially the neighbors; Jules, Heather, and their son Lennon. There could have been so much more life had the suffocating relationship between Stacey and Lennon been explored by the parents and we could have seen the break-up. The fact that Nora and her husband were so dismissive of Stacey and her experiences, ready to gaslight her despite her refusal of being crazy turned me off the book quite early on. It could've been a nice story, but the depth at which depressing scenes were written in comparison to happy scenes drags this story on and on and on. Despite living under tough situations growing up, Nora does not have a good sense of intuition and she doesn't listen to her instincts. She cannot seem to stand up for herself and is removed from reality in an extremely irritating way because it deems her an unreliable narrator and she is unable to fend off plans with Heather and Jules and their pushiness got under my skin. Their son is the same way and has a terrible way of clinging to girls and being a creep. I really wanted to see a resolution for that, or even Stacey just remove the tracking app from her phone but I guess she needed it for the last couple chapters as it was an important detail. I expected to like this book but I was extremely disappointed. I had to drag myself till the end as I had guessed most of the twists and had been waiting for a bigger climax or even a resolution as there was none. It ends pretty abruptly and not on as big of a truthbomb as the author implied since the reader can connect the dots way earlier on. There was nothing satisfying about this book, as the characters are dull, the secrets are guessable and there was no trigger warning for animal death and cruelty. It was just creepy and exhausting to read the pov of a stalker for several chapters in which we see his home life where he abuses his wife and children and to follow the 'relationship' between Stacey and Lennon which could have been minimized imho as it was not even central to the plot surrounding her mother who happens to be the main character. It was just incredibly disturbing to read this book. Not my type of book, would not recommend to anyone.

A family moves to New York only to find that their new home was the scene of a grizzly murder years earlier. As the story progresses, we learn that one family member is carrying dark secrets which will affect the lives of their family forever.
This was an ok read for me. It was dark at times, which is ok, but it was hard to connect to some of the characters. The ending has a good twist but it happened rather abruptly and didn’t answer all my questions.
3 stars! The Other Family was an intriguing read. The twists kept me engaged. I recommend this for fans of thriller/mystery books.
