The Wild Girls is a great story about four girls who were friends and lost touch with each other due to some event. Then they are all invited on an exciting vacation by Felicity, who has planned and is paying for the entire trip. The party is in Botswana at a luxury safari lodge. The three girls who fly in for the party are feeling a little apprehensive and have not seen their host, Felicity. There are some twists and exciting elements to this book.
I wish to thank NetGalley and William Morrow for this ARC with my honest review.

I could not get into this book. I didn't like it. I didn't like any of the characters. Nothing about it pulled me in. I hate so bad when that happens but it does.
I'm very sorry but I just didn't like it.
I could not connect with any of the four characters. I know they went through something bad but still they seemed to just give in to despair. One of course seemed to keep it together but did she really? Then to go and try and have a good time again. I just didn't buy it. It was not for me. Nothing appealed to me at all and that very rarely happens. There is usually at least one thing I like.
Thank you #NetGalley for this ARC. This is my own true thoughts about this book. It just wasn't for me.
3/5 stars and I do recommend you read it for yourself and decide.

A thriller about four friends who have lost touch and are reconnecting at a birthday party in Africa. I was excited to read this book because I thought the setting was unique and would provide new fodder for mishaps and mayhem. Unfortunately nearly the entire story takes place in one location, creating more of a “locked lodge” mystery. I did not connect with the characters like I’d hoped, and there was a lot of hinting at dark secrets and information to come that was only revealed at the last minute. I was surprised by the choice of the villain, but there were parts of the ending that left me with questions. Overall, I’d give The Wild Girls 3 stars. I was provided an ARC of this book for review purposes.

An all expense paid weekend to Botswana to celebrate an old friends birthday, who wouldn’t want to go? Except for the fact that none of the “friends” have talked to each other for a couple of years and they are now 30. Three friends arrive at the lodge and each is assigned a separate room. Strange things start happing and the guest of honor has not been seen yet. A great twisty thriller that kept me guessing till the end.
Thank you Netgalley for a copy in exchange for an honest review. All thoughts are my own.

Enjoyed this book very much! This explores power of friendship and what happens when secrets from years ago come to light. The reader will journey, with three estranged friends, to an remote location. The story is told in multiple POVs, which helps tell a more rounded story.

This was a fun ride. I finished the book in two days. The story was filled with twists and turns and ups and down. Each time I thought I had everything figured out, the story went a different direction. I finished this story in two days. Went to sleep and woke up thinking about these people. The writing was mostly tight, there were a few scenarios that could have been dropped and the story wouldn't have suffered.

This was my first story by Ms. Morgan, I can guarantee it won't be my last.

Grace, Felicity, Alice and Hannah are childhood friends, inseparable until 2 years ago when they have a falling out and lose touch. Out of the blue, they receive an invite from Felicity in the mail inviting them on an all expense paid trip to a resort in Botswana to celebrate Felicity's birthday. Frustrated and needing a break from their current situations, they all agree to go. I mean, who would pass up that offer? Once they arrive to the resort, Felicity isn't there to meet them and things just feel off.

The Wild Girls had the potential to be a great book. The idea of a remote lodge in Africa, 4 estranged friends reuniting and lots of secrets, I was sold. And while the book was a page turner and kept my interest, there were some issues that I had a hard time overlooking. First of all, Hannah is a nursing mother who leaves the country for a long weekend, and yet she doesn't need a breast pump. Next, I had to suspend belief quite a bit at some of their actions while at the resort especially when they had cell service at times. I loved the setting and felt that the author could have added more to the suspense with regards to the remote location. By no means were the characters likable, they were actually horrible friends. Regardless, the book kept me engaged and I stayed up late reading wanting to know how their relationships fell apart and how it was all going to end. This is my first Phoebe Morgan book, but I look forward to reading what she comes up with next. 3.5 stars.

Several of Ms. Morgan’s books are sitting on my TBR list calling to me. This intriguing book is going to force me to take a look at them. The author did a great job with the atmosphere. I felt like I was struggling to survive in the dry, dusty, eerie lodge with these too-trusting women.

I don’t know about anyone else but I don’t have a friend willing to pay for an all-expense-paid trip across the world, even if it is her birthday celebration. And I’d be suspicious if it was an estranged friend and all communication took place through texts. Smarten up, ladies!!

These women are so excited to get a break from their boring lives that they jump at the chance. Although the skepticism is there, it’s not enough to make any of them use their common sense. Bad choice.

Sincere thanks to William Morrow and Custom House Books for providing this complimentary e-ARC through NetGalley. All opinions are my own.

Childhood friends are torn apart by secrets they do not want to admit and truths they cannot accept. Can a long weekend at a luxury resort bring them back together? Is two years too much time with too much left unsaid? Will they be able to put back together the bonds that were broken on one fateful night?

Phoebe Morgan delivers a page-turner that is deliciously twisted! The reader is left guessing until the very end. The plot twist is not surprising, it is shocking. I highly recommend this book for anyone who loves a psychological thriller.

I was given an advance reader copy of this title by the publisher in exchange for an honest review.. I loved the premise and the characters but the writing style was a little cumbersome and stale.

I had high hopes for this isolated thriller - 4 best friends who are on a luxury vacation reunion? But was honestly let down. The whole story seemed immature and the characters were so whiney. I couldn’t get into the premise and found the whole book highly predictable. There is zero atmosphere. Sorry to say. The cover though is amazing.

3.5 stars, rounding down here on NetGalley.

I loved the locked room vibe of this one. None of the characters were reliable narrators, so that made it more intriguing. The story and the build up were a bit slow for me, and I almost stopped reading it. I wasn’t into the ending, but the story ended up being satisfying overall.

The Wild Girls
A Novel
by Phoebe Morgan
Pub Date 26 Apr 2022
William Morrow and Custom House, William Morrow Paperbacks
General Fiction (Adult) | Mystery & Thrillers

I am reviewing a copy of The Wild Girls through William Morrow and Netgalley:

Grace, Felicity, Alice, and Hannah hadn’t been together for years. The “Wild Girls,” as they were once called, are no longer so wild. Alice is a teacher. Hannah has a new baby. Grace is a homebody. Only Felicity seems to have retained her former spark.

Felicity invites them all on the weekend of a lifetime—a birthday bash in Botswana. It’s a chance to have fun and rekindle their once bomb-proof friendship… and finally put that one horrible night, all those years ago, behind them for good.

Soon after arriving at the luxury safari lodge, a feeling of unease settles over them. There’s no sign of the party that was promised. There’s no phone signal. They are on their own… and things start to go very, very wrong.

I give The Wild Girls five out of five stars!

Happy Reading!

Four Friends, Grace, Felicity, Alice, and Hannah, once dubbed the "Wild Girls" are older now with jobs. They have left their wild days behind them. Felicity has invited her friends to go to Botswana for a birthday bash. Sounds like a good time, perhaps they will even have a wild time!

But things do not go as planned. There is no party, no phone signal and things begin to go downhill.

I love a good, locked room mystery. Although, this one was enjoyable it also lacked that just little something that would have pushed my rating to 4 stars. There is the present time and then the book goes back to that night - because there must be that night, right? You know, the fateful one.

I just wanted a little bit more. I will still be open to reading more by this author in the future as she is a good writer and shows promise. There was just something lacking in this book for me. I did enjoy it but didn't love it. Many readers are enjoying this more than I did so please search out their reviews as well.

Thank you to William Morrow and Custom House, William Morrow Paperbacks and NetGalley who provided me with a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review. All the thoughts and opinions are my own.

Thank you to William Morrow for my ecopy of The Wild Girls. Right off the bat, I was pulled in with the surprise trip to Botswana! I love a book set in another country. Felicity invites her estranged girl friends to an all expense paid trip to Botswana where they can reconnect and bond. When the 3 girls arrive to the luxury lodge, their friend is no where to be found. Strange notes and things start happening to them. This book was a page turner for me. Although the general story line was pretty played out, the setting made it feel fresh!

Grace. Alice. Hannah. Felicity. A group of old friends who fell apart the last couple of years. Then Felicity extends an invitation to celebrate her 30th in Botswana - all expenses paid. What was expected to be a reunion filled with safari adventure and luxury turns into the girls' worst nightmare. We learn each one of them have their own secrets, and those secrets may be what kill them.

This book is recommended for my fellow thriller readers who enjoy an easy page turner and fast pace. I didn't find myself bored and was constantly engaged with the discovery of new details and secrets.

I typically don't mind multiple POVs but found it confusing in this book as some characters were written in first person and others in third. There were also some unanswered questions and missing gaps in the plot I felt needed to be addressed.

Setting the backdrop in Africa makes this thriller stand out - a great choice made by Morgan. If you're looking for a bit of a mindless read that'll keep your attention, I say give this book a try. I would read another book from this author.

This “girl trip gone wrong” novel has multiple narrators. This is more suspense than thriller. The four female characters are in different stages of a relationship from single to married. The novel covers two time periods, present and two years prior, with the first part cleverly dropping hints of things to be revealed in the second. The country of Botswana is not really explored, as most of the “action” takes place in and around a lodge.

Thanks to HarperCollins Publishers and NetGalley for the e-galley. I listened to the released audiobook for this review. It has four voice actors. My reviews and ratings are my own.

Spoiler alert:

This book was too out there for me. It is just not for me, and I would not be able to recommend it to anyone I knew.

When 4 friends are set to reunite and rekindle their friendship, nothings seems to go as planned. Longtime friends Alice, Felicity, Grace & Hannah haven’t seen each other in 2 years and decide to go on a weekend holiday to Botswana. While at the luxurious cabin, the friends each encounter mysterious occurrences; one of them stays in her room, one has an uneasy feeling about the place and others will not survive. Someone wants revenge but who and why? I enjoyed the twists in this book and the storyline but the timeline was a little jumpy for me.

The Wild Girls by Phoebe Morgan has it all! 4 friends gather together in Botswana for a 40th birthday party. A chance to reconnect and become "The Wild Girls" they once were. Only nothing goes as planned. A deserted luxury resort, secrets, revenge and murder. You have to read this one to see how it ends!

I thought I’d get Reckless Girls or Hunting Party vibes, but in an atmospheric African setting.

How do you have characters go all the way to the other side of the world & build up a trip to Botswana without a SINGLE safari, animal glimpse, ANYthing that would remind me that they are in this unique land. 🙄 It was a letdown for me.

Ultimately predictable, but with no satisfying ending. The characters were hard to relate to (or root for) and I almost didn’t finish it.

I will say though that this was a debut, and Morgan definitely can write compelling chapters and some sharp dialogue. I’d give her another try, but would skip this one if you are torn on what to read next.

How’s everyone feeling about the end of the school year? 🤗
