Abblett teaches parents and others that work with children how to be a more skilled, mindful, and compassionate presence in children's lives. Rather than excessively praising children, prizing children and their potential for growth and true intentions, leads to more meaningful connection and teaches children to better learn to understand and control their own feelings. I really enjoyed hearing the experiences that he has had, as both a psychologist and parent. Each chapter includes multiple mindfulness activities that the reader can use to better communicate and connect with children. He includes a lot of great insights and perspectives. One con for me was that he does use some foul language at parts, that I would have preferred be omitted, however, overall, I really enjoyed this book and found it to be informative.
The best way to build resilience and confidence in kids is to be their cheerleader, but you also need to prepare them well for life. This book is a great resource. It's about giving a child their attention, and focusing on what matters, and supporting them. I like this book written by an experienced psychologist, but with examples embedded throughout.
