I loved the setting. I liked the characters and relationships. The pacing was slow and the writing was basic.
The plot was very confusing at times

Cute. Cute. Cute. Cute. Cute! Murder at the House on the Hill is like Bridget Jones meets The Thursday Murder Club.

The book follows Nancy and her grandmother Jane who run the village bookshop - called Dedly Endings - which sounds as though it wouldn't feel out of place in the village of Midsummer! So much life envy for this pair, their day-to-day sounds utterly divine and that's even before the clamorous Roth family comes a calling.

What follows is a beautiful crime just waiting to be solved and this book has the perfect mix of charm and mystery and would make for a wonderful Jólabókaflóðið gift.

Nancy and Jane are not to be underestimated as they set their sights on tracking down the murderer but can they catch them before the killer finds them?

This cosy crime thriller also has a sprinkling of romance and it really is a wonderful choice for a cold winter's day on the sofa.

A classic murder mystery. Fun and cosy, may a little more mystery but the premise was good and they are an unlucky detective duo. I think it's a quick easy read for all

Nancy hunter and her grandmother, Jane, run a bookshop in Dedley Ends. Everything is usually quiet and peaceful. That is until the reclusive Roth family decide to invite people from the village to celebrate the recent engagement of their daughter. The party seems to be going well until a daughter in law is found murdered. Nancy and Jane have their doubts in the local police force being able to solve this murder. Many years prior, Nancy’s dad was killed in a car accident and the police never solved it. So Nancy decided to take matters into her own hands and solve it before the police. Will she be able to? And will the killer come after her when they figure out what she’s doing?

This book was cute. I loved the feel of the small village. Nancy is a relatable character. I felt like certain details of the story were repeated too many times. For example, the daughter in law that is killed, Lucy, fell in love with the Roth’s son, Harry, very quickly. It was constantly mentioned that it was a “whirlwind romance”. Mentioning it once or twice is fine. But it was brought up a lot! I’d be interested in reading more of this series to see what comes next for Nancy. Thank you to Netgalley for allowing me to read this in exchange for an honest opinion.

Nancy Hunter and her grandmother Jane Hunter run the Dedley Endings Bookshop, selling crime, thriller and mystery books, in a small, quiet Cotswold village where nothing ever happens…
That is, until the wealthy and reclusive Roth family open up their mansion for the first time in thirty years, inviting the people of Dedley End to a lavish engagement party.
While everyone is thrilled to finally look around the mansion on the hill, the festivities are quickly cut short when beautiful Lucy, recently married to young Harry Roth, is found dead after being pushed over the first-floor balustrade. But who among the guests could have been capable of her murder – and why?
The synopsis sounded fun and got me intrigued from the beginning. The story was a cozy mystery if I can put it that way. But the story was too cozy for a mystery, so there wasn't much development on that area and the pace was too slow for my liking.

Murder at the House on the Hill is a perfect cozy mystery that has a definite Agatha Christie vibe to it.

Nancy runs a bookshop that only sells crime and mystery novels, along with her Grandma Janes help.
When the reclusive Roth family open up their mansion and invite Nancy and Jane to their party they just have to go. And when a murder happens there that night they can’t help but investigate.

I really enjoyed the mystery / who did it storyline and hadn’t guessed the killer before the reveal.

Most of the characters are well developed and likeable.

I loved Jane and Nancy’s relationship, as well as Janes friendship with her best friend Jonathan.

There were times I felt the storyline dragged slightly and I did find some of the dialogue a bit strange for the time setting.

But all in all I loved the book, and hope I treasure the Dedley End series as much as I do the Glendale Hall series.

When I saw this on netgalley I knew I had to request it. I love Victoria's Glendale hall series and thought is give her cosy crime a go, it didn't disappoint it had me guessing from the first few chapters and I couldn't put it down.

Liked the cover of the story, but the writing was slow and not the plot line felt confusing. An okay book.

Absolutely amazing! I am a sucker for a good cozy mystery, and this was just what I needed.

Murder at the house of the hill is a perfect mix of Agatha Christie and chill/cozy mystery. I found the writing to be lovely, but there were a couple of slow points in the book. It was however, so much fun to try to figure out who did it. I highly recommend this book and I personally am looking forward to what comes next in the series.

I didn't read this book in time before it archived in NetGalley but I was interested enough to buy it when it became available on Kindle. Overall, it was an okay read but I really couldn't get over the fact that Nancy (named after Drew) decided to investigate a death because of a bet. Yep. A woman dies and Nancy and her grandmother decide that they will try and beat the police to the answer because Nancy's best friend (who is probably desperately in love with her but leading other women on) thinks they can't. Ew.

The Roths are a wealthy family that live in Dedly End. Around thirty years ago, they had a party that ended when the housekeeper was accused of stealing money. That was the last time the mansion was open to the public. Now, they are having a party again and Nancy and her grandmother, as business owners (a mystery bookstore that is arranged according to Nancy's deceased father's whims). The party is to celebrate the granddaughter of the house's engagement. There are two other children, both sons, and the elder son is married to a woman that the rest of the family doesn't seem to approve of. And she is the one who ends up dead.

Nancy and her grandmother Jane own and run a bookstore, Deadly Endings, in a country village.

When most of the town get invited to the Roth family‘s mansion for a party the festivities are cut short when one of the family is found dead.

Nancy and Jane along with their friends try to discover who could’ve murdered the beautiful Lucy Ross.

I loved this, the first of the Deadly End Mystery series and can’t wait for more.

⭐⭐⭐

First off, I LOVE the cover of this book. It's just so eye-catching and interesting. So this was another mixed bag of a read for me. I loved the setting. Loved the characters and their relationships. However, I found the writing a little juvenile. The pacing extremely slow. The plot repetitive and confusing (at times), and some characters could have done with more fleshing out. A mixed bag indeed!

I have never read any cozy mystery before but i was super excited to delve into this one and it did not disappoint and i can't beileve its a genre i haven't tried before now. Nancy and her grandmother Jane run the Dedley Endings bookshop, a bookshop specializing in Crime, Mystery and Thriller books but that is about as much drama as the pair surround themselves with. Dedley End is a quiant small village where not much happens.

Until one day the reclusive Roth family invite most of the village to celebrate an engagement party. It's been over 30 years since the village have seen most of the family or the doors have been opened to welcome them in once more. As the village sets out to celebrate, young Lucy is found dead and suddenly everyone is in the frame. Who could want to harm her? Especially with all these guests.

Lucy and Jane take it amongst themselves to investigate, especially when it is felt the police wont get answers and i mean who better than specialists in crime, mystery and thriller right?

I simply got hooked on this book, it was comforting, but it was so gripping. The pacing was lovely and i really enjoyed getting to know the characters. Each with their own traits - especially Nancy and Jane along with Nancys best friend. They are determined to solve this. Alongside the murder however, there is a few other subplots which give the book a really well rounded feel.

It felt like the village really came to life in the way it was written. It didn't feel flat at any point because Victoria has created such a place that you felt it come alive, that the history of the place plays a huge part in its community and i loved discovering that.

A great first experience into the genre and i cant wait to read more.

I was hooked from the start. A fan of the author, I was keen to see if a slight genre change would be as good and it really really is. I am loving the cute, cosy crime fiction and this book falls firmly into that category. Lots of intrigue and drama, with ibtw resting characters and enough red herrings to keep you guessing for quite some time! Nancy is my kind of girl; live her relationships with friends and of course her Gran, her independent spirit and sleuthing skills. Can’t wait to read more from this series!!

This has been such fun to read and is a great mix of cozy and Agatha Christie. Set in a small village in the English countryside, a big house on the hill, and a warm and loving cast of family and friend, this has all the heart of a cozy. But, the mystery in the big house has me feeling all the Christie vibes, in the best possible way. I loved that there were subtle signs regarding Richard, which she didn’t overlook!

This book has been my favourite read of this year. I absolutely loved it! A cozy Murder mystery? Tick. Set in the stunning cotswolds? Tick. The main characters running a bookshop? Tick! I am so jealous as I would love to shop in the bookshop, better still work there haha. Such an amazing Murder mystery that I couldn’t get enough of. Just brilliant!

So many elements of the Traditional English Mystery: small town, a manor that holds itself aloof from the town, a ball that invites the villagers to said manor and... the mystery unfolds. Why does the Roth family ignore the town, doing all shopping elsewhere? What happened 30 years ago that made them such recluses? Unsurprisingly there's a bookshop in town--one specializing in mysteries, no less--and it's the Hunters (talk about a name laden with meaning!), granddaughter Nancy (named after Drew?) and grandmother Jane (as in Marple?), who begin to unravel What Happened. No surprises, but charmingly well done.
