Some really good discussions on masculinity and the patriarchy and how it puts just as much pressure on men as it does women. I sort of wish we got more character development with Hannah or at least learned a little bit more about her. But overall a really good story with a couple chock full of chemistry. Friends to lovers will always be one of my absolute faves.
Thank you to NetGalley, the publisher, and the author for this ARC in exchange for an honest review!
OMG! I loved this book so much! This was by far one of my most anticipated releases of 2022 because I absolutely loved the first book in this series. One thing I love about romance series like this one is that you get to see what is happening to the couple from the first book yet still getting a chance to explore and fall in love with a new couple!
Fox and Hannah were so good and hot together! I loved seeing how these two went from friends to more and how they both grew as people through the events of this book!
This would be a perfect read for any season but especially during the Spring and Summer!
Another solid romance from Tessa Bailey! Definitely a bit more slow-burn for a TB title, but for this particular friends-to-lovers story it made a lot of sense to have these two take the scenic route to a HEA rather than immediately jumping into bed together. Fox is something of a modern-day rake, with a reputation for being a ladies' man (which also leads to him internalizing the belief that he's only good for a good time and nothing more), and he and Hannah are so good for each other in terms of being one another's force for change and the realization that they have the potential to be their truest selves both independently and together. Also, that epilogue was entirely unexpected and for that very reason might be one of the best ones I've ever read.
I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book from the publisher via NetGalley. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
LOVE! Hook, Line, and Sinker didn't quite live up to It Happened One Summer for me, but I still loved it. A really sweet friends-to-lovers romance
Hook, Line and Sinker was another sexy and addicting Tessa Bailey hit!!! This story was full of laughs, swoons and heated moments! I am so smitten with Fox and Hannah and their fiery connection!
I was so happy we were getting Hannah and Fox's story after seeing them in It Happened One Summer . Their spitfire banter and hot sexual tension flew right off the pages. What I loved more than anything though was how the tables were turned in this story! Fox finally met his match and a woman who didn't fall at his feet right away. I also loved how we could see how much Hannah meant to him and his struggle to finally win the girl of his dreams!
Overall, this story is everything I love in a Tessa Bailey novel and I for one am so here for her next one!
5 stars!
An easy 5 star read for me! Tessa Bailey NAILED the pinning in this novel. Tessa continues to show why she is an auto buy author.
A delightful book full of adventure, action, and thrills. Fun to read, engrossing world building, and very descriptive imagery made it feel like it was cinematic. It's hard to resist the story as it drives forward. Would recommend.
I did not enjoy this one and much as I wanted , there was something missing for me. Fox was okay just the spark was not there this took me forever to complete.
I really enjoyed this story about overcoming self doubt, and taking charge of your own story.
This is the second book in the duology following the Bellinger sisters, Hannah and Piper. In this one, we see the story of Hannah, music connoisseur and PA of a film production company. She is tired of being a sidekick in her life, and takes a leap. It leads her back to the home she doesn’t remember, the small fishing town of Westport. She ends up staying with her friend Fox who, as it turns out, also has some serious insecurities he needs to get past. As they try to help each other, it’s hard to deny the obvious chemistry between them. But, they both have a lot to learn if they even have a shot at a successful and healthy relationship.
It was a cute story that probably will connect with most people, because who hasn’t had some imposter syndrome? The characters are relatable and it’s enjoyable to watch their story unfold.
HOOK, LINE, AND SINKER is a fun contemporary romance that brings readers back to the small coastal town of Westport. This time, the main character is Hannah Bellinger, Piper's little sister (from IT HAPPENED ONE SUMMER).
This felt like one of those books that can be a super fun read -- as long as you don't look too closely under the hood. Enjoy Hannah's attempts to move her career along, root for either her or her friend Fox to (finally!) make a move, and picture yourself in this great little town.
As for their inevitable conflict: Hannah has a small complex about being more of a supporting actress than a leading lady while Fox has a mega complex because people assume he's a player. They're both in their heads about things, which can be frustrating -- just talk to each other? It also stretches the imagination a bit, that Fox would feel disrespected by his fishing crew... because he's traditionally attractive and has always had his pick of (short-term) romantic partners? Really?
Anyway I could (mostly) look past that but what drove me nuts was that he caused Hannah more pain than he needed to. By virtue of not being able to get his head on right, he hurt her, and that sucks. Downgrades this one to 3 stars for me -- I enjoyed reading it, but I'd have loved for the last third to play out differently.
Hook, Line, and Sinker was a predictable friends to lovers romance. The setting, the Washington coast near Seattle, was perfect for the story and it was an easy and entertaining read.
OMG. I flew through this book!!! I think i liked it more than the first. Fox and hanah were just SO perfect and understanding and it really filled my friends to lovers heart to the brim. This book is a slowburn but man is it worth it once they finally confess!! I was audibly screaming at Fox for being so stubborn and wanting to push him and hannah together. The epilogue had me crying because tens years later is CRAZY! I loved this book so much and i will forever be shouting it from the rooftops!!!!
Love Fox and Hannah. This was so cute and I loved their relationship, the development, and the chemistry. The text messages in the beginning really helped set up their friendship. I also thought Fox's journey was really unique - battling opinions of him shaped by expectations and toxic masculinity, not by him as an individual.
Thanks to NetGalley and Avon for providing me with an eARC of this title in exchange for an honest review.
Hannah doesn't see herself as a leading lady in spite of being a Bellinger, but she wants to be. Home sick for Westport and her sister, she boldly suggests that the film she's working on up and move production to Westport for it's dramatic ambiance, finding herself staying in Fox Thornton's apartment. Fox isn't just the town's casanova and eternal bachelor, he's also the man she has been playing message tag with since she left that summer.
Can their budding friendship survive the temptation from the man who makes his sex appeal his personality or is the Lothario using his prowess as armor for deeper issues? Or will Fox's mere presence spark enough jealousy so that Hannah's crush finally recognizes her?
I was fortunate enough to get an arc of It Happened One Summer last year and ADORED it. The book made me laugh, cry and swoon beyond all. I'm a sucker for a grumpy/sunshine dynamic. That said, something about this book spoke to me in a profound way. I love music almost as much as Piper does and I feel that supporting actress sort of feeling.
It was amazing to see her come into her own while being an amazing friend to Fox who is working through his own issues of everyone expecting him to act a certain way, hiding behind expectations and fear of rejection.
This book was equally as funny and heart-wrenching in it's on ways, and a worthy successor to It Happened One Summer in so many ways while being unique and another title that I'd want to revisit from time to time. It's an honor to witness Tessa Bailey honing her skills and growing as an author. I can't wait to read her next book.
I LOVE Tessa Bailey. LOVE her. I will read anything she writes.
I was so excited for It Happened One Summer because I love her series books.
What I don't love is books about socialites, who have no concept of what the real world is and that is exactly what Piper Bellinger was in that book so I didn't love that book (though I DID love Brendan).
I wasn't eager to read this because of how annoying the Bellinger sisters were in the first book but I 1000% believe THIS was the better book. I love how she is truly not interested in Fox and he is trying super hard not to be interested in her, but yet they are perfect for each other.
It does get tiring reading multiple books where the couples can't communicate and people are unwilling to deal with their demons to make relationships work so of course it is a *can't have*, want *run away* get back together scenario but for some reason, these were just super adorable and I wasn't as annoyed as I was in the first book.
I LOVED the first book in this series by Tessa Bailey and I was ANXIOUSLY awaiting the story of Hannah. This book was just as lovely as it's predecessor, recommend!!!!
I was ecstatic to start this after reading It Happend One Summer and I was not disappointed. Tessa bailey’s writing style is easy to read and I felt myself engaged with every word. I read this in one sitting and I don’t usually finish books until weeks later. that just goes to say how good this book was. My emotions were going from crying to swooning over the characters and their relationship. Overall i was pleased with this book and i can’t wait for the others in this series.
Tessa Bailey continues the romances of the Bellinger in Hook, Line, and Sinker. This installment follows music-loving Hannah Bellinger as she attempts to pluck up the nerve to be a leading lady in her own life. Thankfully, she's got her friend Fox Thornton at her side who is always ready to remind her how fantastic she truly is. Their friendship was built over text messages and when Hannah shows up in town and they come face-to-face again, it's hard for Fox to deny what he's been feeling for her.
As a befreckled reader who adores foxes—I could not be happier with a book that features a rogue with a secretly soft heart named Fox and a heroine he calls Freckles. Their chemistry is just delightful and I loved the slow burn of their romance as Fox learned to be valued for who he was and see the value he brings to people in his life.
I think Bailey did such a great job exploring the impact toxic masculinity has had on Fox and the way the men in his life uphold it by continuing to place pressure on him to be a certain type of man. I especially loved that when he told his best friend how he felt, he received an apology.
This is a series about characters growing and changing into being better versions of themselves and I’ve loved getting to know them. I cannot wait to see what Bailey does next.
Hook, Line, and Sinker is the next novel of Tessa Bailey's that follows the Bellinger sisters. This book is about friendship turning into so much more. I am a huge fan of friends to lovers because I think that is what really makes a solid relationship. I felt like this book had more of the story that I was missing in It Happened One Summer so I appreciated that. If you want a steamy rom-com. I would recommend this one!
Tessa Bailey has perfected the romance equation! Great story, lovable characters, and spicy romance equals a book you can't put down. I loved it!
