I so so loved It Happened One Summer…but Hook, Line, and Sinker may have stolen my heart. :) Friends-to-lovers is one of my favorite tropes and Hannah & Fox’s relationship was the perfect journey within it. I LOVE FOX so much and I AM HANNAH 100%! :)
I cannot express how much I loved this book! I loved Hannah and Fox's relationship and the way Hannah selflessly encouraged Fox to grow as a person and start realizing his worth, even when it meant she would have to sacrifice her feelings in the process. Watching both of these characters grow throughout this book was just everything and I loved it so much. This book really validated how much I love dual perspective in romances as well! I would also like to say that the steaminess was absolutely god tier and the epilogue had me smiling like an idiot. I cannot wait to get my hands on the final copy so I can read it again!
5⭐️ WOW. This books really blew away my expectations. The book starts off around the time where IHOS leaves off with Fox and Hannah staying in contact. The prologue really got my attention and was a great way to start off the book. The banter between both characters is AMAZING. I love how both Fox and Hannah are such lovable characters and i feel like i could really connect with them. If you love RECORDS and MUSIC, this book is for you! Both Fox and Hannah find ways to connect through music. The pacing throughout the book was perfect because we were able to see a friendship slowly form and then flourish into something amazing! We see the insecurities of both characters pretty early on in the book and seeing how much they are there for eachother is heart warming. The epilogue was one of the best ending i’ve read and brought great closure for both fox/hannah and brendan/piper :) This releases March 1st but preorder is available now! Thank you to Netgalley and Avon & Harper for this ARC!

First and foremost, from the bottom of my heart, I want to thank Avon and Harper Voyager, and NetGalley for the e-arc opportunity to read and review Hook, Line, and Sinker. Quite honestly, reading this book was at the top of my wishlist, and let me tell you, it did not disappoint. It made 2021 for me, and I've now read the book five times within a week. YES, IT'S THAT GOOD! It's so amazing that I've stayed up till 3:00 am reading it repeatedly.
My very lengthy honest review starts in 3...2...1:
This book starts right where It Happened One Summer left off. I loved It Happened One Summer, with its nod to Schitt's Creek and my favorite trope of enemies-to-lovers. The passion was explosive between Piper and Brendan, and the bond of the Bellinger sisters was touching beyond belief. But as I was reading It Happened One Summer, I became enthralled with Fox and Hannah right from the beginning. I began to crave their story from scenes that were clearly bundled up in undeniable chemistry.
**Spoilers for It Happened One Summer**: The bonus scene completely hooked me when Fox took Hannah to the record store. You can instantly see the realization in Fox that Hannah is something different. It's not just that he's been sworn off from flirting with her, creating a cat/mouse chase. Instead, he notices something unique and special about her. The girl beneath the red cap, which I believe calls to Fox's soul because he's more than he lets others think as well. Earlier in the book, we see that Fox constantly has Hannah on his mind when he mentions the Record Convention to Brendan, hasn't been to Seattle for you know what, helps at the bar, and how Piper notices he seems...nervous around Hannah. Fox gravitates towards her instantly and is intrigued by her strong nature, blunt honesty, and love of music. Music is a connection they alone share, and we got to see even more of this when he left her the Fleetwood Mac album. I mean, come on...absolutely SWOONING AND HEART EYES. You realize that Fox is more than a "pretty face" in these simple yet profound moments.
I was thrilled when learning Tessa Bailey's sequel was Fox and Hannah's story. She truly understands what the fans want and desire! We thank you, Tessa, oh so much.
So here we are at Hook, Line, and Sinker. We have Fox, the relief skipper and best friend of Brendan (the captain of the Della Ray), who wants Fox to step up and become his own captain. Yet, Fox doesn't believe in himself, even though he seemingly has it all with appearance, charm, and a display of a going-with-the-flow nature. However, there's so much more to Fox beneath the surface, which I was hoping for when reading book #1. It Happened One Summer only hits the tip of the iceberg on who his character truly is. Hook, Line, and Sinker give us so much depth that Fox is now easily one of my favorite fictional characters. The sequel dives into topics that aren't mentioned often, and you feel for the guy, striving to help make a change in society on his behalf and others held to unhealthy standards like him.
For half of the book, I wanted to hug, comfort, and stand up for Fox, and the other half, I was busy swooning over how he views Hannah. Without giving too much away, the guy has it bad for Hannah—she's on the highest pedestal in his eyes. It's so apparent, and you gain moments of Fox doing the sweetest, most thoughtful acts of kindness for Hannah in addition to 100% pining for her (he desires her so badly that you can literally feel the tension vibrate from the page).
Fox wants to see Hannah happy; that's his number one priority, and who wouldn't love a guy like that? He cherishes their friendship above all else, never before experiencing a relationship of this nature. Listen, I love the enemies-to-lovers trope, as mentioned above. However, this book does friends-to-lovers so beautifully and touchingly that I now have a favorite parallel trope.
Let's talk about Hannah. She's the perfect heroine, which we saw in It Happened One Summer, and her character only expands further in the sequel as she moves to a path of becoming a leading lady of her own life. I absolutely adore her. She's exceedingly thoughtful, selfless, fun, witty, compassionate, loving, strong, and reasonable at supporting Fox to see there's so much more to who he really is. She has this unwavering faith in Fox, and it's remarkable. It's safe to say Hannah is his anchor in a tumultuous sea. I really appreciate Tessa when writing Hannah's communication skills, and truthfully, I was never annoyed by her character or the actions she took along the way.
Hannah has such a beautiful way of observing the world around her, and the way she views music is incredible. I listened to the songs mentioned in the book, making each moment much more powerful. I felt fully immersed in their world as if I were in the same room. It was as if I were watching a movie and could easily witness each scene being played out; the descriptions are that good!
Fox and Hannah's love story has got to be the best I've read in a long time. While I loved It Happened One Summer, this book easily wins for me (yet, I highly recommend reading both to gain the entire experience of the Bellinger sisters in Westport & set up Fox/Hannah's beginning). While It Happened One Summer may be apparently more steamy, this book was deliberate with how it all played out in a slow burn that makes sense to the plot. So when these monumental moments happen between the two, it's so special and realistic that it takes your breath away. Really though, I was actually holding my breath in one scene in particular, wishing I'd find love just like theirs. It was a standing ovation moment.
Hook, Line, and Sinker makes me giggle and smile from the first page (I love their text conversation, & Tessa is a genius for adding that view into their relationship). Fox and Hannah's connection is highly swoon-worthy from the very beginning. So often while reading, I was emotional (happy & sad tears) from the dynamic depth that Tessa has given us. Her talent has no bounds, and this book only proves it. I feel overall PURE JOY AND HOPE when reading Hook, Line, and Sinker. It's inspirational and touching in ways I didn't know I needed, which is probably why I'm starting the book again after this review.
This book is for you if you desire a beautiful yet slow-burn steamy romance with endless chemistry and sexual tension on every page. If you're interested in best friends traveling to the depths of a deep and fulfilling romantic love, this book is for you. If you enjoy all the rom-com tropes, then yeah, this book is definitely for you. This book is also for you if you want to see incredible character growth on both sides. Basically, pre-order and read this book when released on March 1st, 2022—you can thank me later!
In conclusion, Hook, Line, and Sinker is now one of my favorites. It's absolute perfection and pure book magic! Also, might I add what everyone else has said when saying that the epilogue was this book's most beautiful wrap-up?! EPIC.
★★★★★ 5 STARS FOR ME (I would give it more if I could)!
Starting right where IT Happened One Summer left off, Hannah and Fox have stayed in touch and created a beautiful friendship. When the director Hannah is working for wants a new location for his film, Hannah can't help but blurt out that Westport is the perfect spot. Since Hannah can't stay with Piper, she ends up rooming with Fox at his apartment.
What follows is a beautiful, pure, fun, and RIVETING story about two individuals trying to be their own protagonist and leading person in their stories. While Hannah is loyal, she has a hard time being in the spotlight and going for what she wants. Similarly, Fox can't shed his playboy image and instead leans into it because it is what's comfortable. He doesn't think he is cut out for more.

WOW YALL THIS BOOK WAS DEEPER AND MORE ROMANTIC THAN I THOUGHT IT WOULD BE. I LOVE LOVE LOOOOVEEE FOX. He was so sweet and pure. It made my heart hurt to see him doubt himself and if he was enough for Hannah. I loved how Hannah put on her big girl pants and stood her ground. She believed in Fox, encouraged him, and proved time and time again that she would be there for him and for the both of them.
Their friendship and respect for one another touched my heart. These two made me swoon and smile so much. I am so sad to finish this series. Fox and Hannah will forever live in my head rent free!

Thank you, NetGalley x Avon and Harper Voyager for the advanced copy! Hook, Line, and Sinker is available on March 1, 2022
Special thanks to NetGalley and Avon and Harper Voyager for sharing this digital reviewer copy with me in exchange for my honest opinions! Personally, I am geeking out how I was even able to get my hands on this arc prior to it being released (I love you (Avon & Harper)!!!
I am a reader who gets overly obsessed with a fictional relationship, and my god I LOVE Hannah & Fox SO FLIPPING MUCH. I am a hugeeeee simp for them and want them both to have nothing but happiness!! I mean that epilogue had me crying… ANYWAYS
This story takes place a few months after It Happened One Summer. This story does share some similar plot lines but really holds in its own weight. Hannah is the second half of the Bellinger sisters but is nothing like her "party-girl" sister. Hannah loves music and loves to fit specific moments with the right song. Fox is a rugged sexy fisherman who has spent his whole life being the but of the joke, and is used to women using him for his sex appeal versus getting to know that is until fox meets Hannah, and life for both of them will never be the same. This book has it all: friends to lovers trope forced proximity & dismantling the stigma around men having feelings and being hyper-sexualized at the tender age of 12. Fox has been dealing with imposter syndrome since he was young and this is an ongoing theme throughout the book.
One thing that really stood out to me is how Hannah does not assume the role of caregiver to Fox. She doesn’t force him to fix himself, but supports him and listens to him, and values his thoughts. WHICH IS MAJOR FOR FOX.
Hannah and Fox’s story is more intense, sentimental but also heartwarming than I expected.
I am a mega-fan of Tessa Bailey because she never disappoints. Her writing style is amazing and will forever read whatever she puts out into the universe.
This book had me crying, laughing out loud, and had some very spicy moments!
CW: mentions of parental death, parental infidelity, over-sexualization of minor/teen/young adult, toxic masculinity
I'm going to be one hundred percent transparent, I was not a big fan of It Happened One Summer with the way Brendan talked to Piper, so I was hesitant on Hook, Line, and Sinker, but I absolutely loved this book! Even with Hannah and Fox pretending to date each other, a trope that I like but always find a little immature, I felt that this book was more mature than the other books of Bailey's that I have read. Maybe it had to do with the mentions of toxic masculinity, it had no possessive talk, and Fox goes on a great mental and emotional journey throughout the course of the book. Where Piper was over the top in everything she did in the first book, I loved that Hannah was much more down to earth and relatable. I also liked how Hannah worked with Fox on having him see himself as the person he wants to be, not the person everyone assumes he is. And of course, Fox helped Hannah in being more assertive at work and figuring out what she wanted for her future. The epilogue was perfect and this is definitely my favorite book of Bailey's!
I really loved the first book in this series "It Happened One Summer" and the relationship between the sisters, so I was really excited to read about Hannah. I did enjoy this book but not as much as the first one. I felt that the pacing was a little slow at times and Hannah seemed to lose some of the fun bubbly side that she had in this story. I also felt that although she was spending a few weeks in Westport, there was very little interaction between the sisters and with her grandmother. I would have liked to have seen more of that in this book,
In the months following the end of It Happened One Summer, Hannah and Fox have established a strong long-distance friendship. So when Hannah heads back to Westport for work, she doesn’t think twice about staying in Fox’s spare bedroom. But now that they are sharing his space, the lines of friendship and flirtation begin to blur.

I knew going into this book that I would love this one more than the first because I LIVE for a good ‘friends to lovers’ story and I was not disappointed. This book genuinely had me swooning from the very start of the prologue. The way that Hannah and Fox connect through music, and push each other to face their insecurities was so pure and genuine. It’s so clear from the beginning that they care for each other so deeply which made the progression of their relationship feel so natural.
If you love a good ‘friends to lovers’ book, this is an absolute must! I mean the banter, the tension, the will they won’t they of it all, was truly everything I could have wanted from this book and more.
You’ll definitely want to pick this one up come March and be ready to fall in love with Fox!
Thank you to Netgalley and Avon for the opportunity to read and review this ARC.
I didn’t think a sequel could stand up to It Happened One Summer, but Hook, Line, and Sinker had done exactly that. Friends to lovers isn’t usually my favorite trope but this book made me want to read more of them. There was angst for sure, but where this book really shines is in the more tender and sentimental moments.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Hannah and Fox’s encounters during the first book made my anticipation for this book increase, and the book really did just amplify those moments. I loved that while Hannah as our main character had her moments of reflection, a lot of the growth we saw in the book was in Fox. Rarely, do I see romantic comedies where this is the case with the male lead. It really tackled his emotions, imposter syndrome, and more. Their relationship felt so genuine and really tugged at my heart. This was completely unputdownable, and as soon as I was approved to read it on NetGalley, I devoured it. A must read if you love Tessa Bailey’s wit, romance, and just want another romance with a fisherman.

CW: grief, loss of a parent, sexual objectification

Thank you to NetGalley and Avon Books for the e ARC in exchange for an honest review!
Tessa Bailey is a master of good chemistry development. This book was every bit as good as the first in the series. Every character is well-developed and intensely likable. They are well-rounded with flaws and the personal development of each character over the course of the novel really adds to the story. This plot relied some on miscommunications and assumptions, a trope that I usually find frustrating, but it was so well done and the reasoning behind it for each character was explained so well, that in this case, I didn't mind. Looking forward to more from this author.
After reading It Happened One Summer, I was desperate to find out how things played out with Hannah and Fox. I love that Hannah's and my music tastes line up so I could feel exactly the way that she did throughout the book. I always have a song that fits my moods and this made it such a fun and emotional read. Their banter kept me laughing and their connection was so sweet. I was hooked from the very first page.
Hook, Line, and Sinker by Tessa Bailey completely outshines Piper and Brendan's story in It Happened One Summer. It follows Hannah and Fox, where they are reunited back in the charming fishing district of Westport. Although I liked Piper and Brendan and the worldbuilding first novels usually provide, Hannah and Fox's romance was more relatable and a less unattainable concept.
One of the best things about Bailey's writing is her ability to create atmosphere. Westport feels authentic and charming, the characters are complex, and there are layers to the plot. Hannah and Fox have such an undeniable connection that it was hard not to keep reading as they explored their feelings towards each other. I loved how they individually worked through their own emotional trauma to fully understand each other's needs. The storyline was paced perfectly, and I never found myself at a point where I wished more was happening because every scene was wholly necessary to further the plot. It's rare for me to be as fully immersed in a romance book as I was in this one, and I'm so glad I decided to give this sequel a chance. I can picture this as a top fan favorite romance of 2022!
Thank you to Netgalley for this eARC in exchange for an honest review!
Bailey really outdid herself with this one! I’m obsessed with Fox. The way him and Hannah support each others growth and believe in each other when the other one just cant see it was beautiful. And i loved the bits where we got to see how Piper and Brandons relationship was flourishing! And that epilogue, ugh! So perfect!
I am in love with fishermen even more now? Yes, yes I am. Holy shit this was a masterpiece is all I have to say about this book. This standalone, but nevertheless a sequel to Bailey's It Happened One Summer is all I could ever want for nice wrap to 2021. I was rooting so hard for Fox and Hannah the entire time because how could you not! They are literally meant for each other, like if Piper and Brendan are explosive, Fox and Hannah are the quite storm that rage so beautifully in the middle of night. I was not expecting this to be a slowburn, but oh boy did she burn so good. I thought there was a lot of depth and emotion to Fox and Hannah's story, especially more than I found in the first installment of this series, and that was a very nice surprise for me because I think it helped me connect to the characters more, especially Fox's character. By far, one of my favorite Tessa Bailey books to date.
This book was such a cute addition to the first one. I was so attached to Fox from the first book and I'm so glad that I got to get a little deeper into his back story. It had such a cute ending as well! I highly recommend this book. The pacing was really quick and kept me interested the whole time. The friends to lovers aspect I normally don't like since I want a little more tension. However, it was done incredibly well in this book! I can't recommend it enough. The only reason it wasn't a 5 star read for me is because I wish it were a little longer since I didn't want to let go of these characters.
This book was a surprise. I wasn't the biggest fan of It Happened One Summer so since this book was a spinoff I was a bit wary to read this. I actually did like Hannah and Fox in It Happened One Summer, from the small moments we got of them. So starting this book I was happy it wasn't slow and had a nice pace. The beginning of the book was interesting and kept me reading which is what I like. I also loved how the book started out as it gave us a bit more contest into Hannah and Fox's relationship. Also, Piper and Brendan being overprotective over Hannah was very sweet.
Hook, Line, and Sinker is the second book after It Happened One Summer. This book follows Hannah and Fox's relationship. While it's not necessary to have read the first book, I highly recommend it because you'll get the background on Hannah, Fox, Piper, and Brendan; as well as, be familiar with the small fishing town of Westport.
Now, having read the first book already you fall back into the story so easily. It feels like settling back into the most comfortable blanket. Tessa Bailey has done such a good job creating the personalities of her characters and Westport.
Fox is a self-proclaimed lifetime bachelor and Hannah is Piper's little sister, so she's off limits. This relationship starts to crackle in the first book and becomes burning flames in this one. The slow burn romance between Fox and Hannah is addictive and captivating. The sex scenes are a lit inferno and do not disappoint.
I highly recommend this book to those who enjoyed Piper and Brendan's story, but also those who enjoy a friends to lover, slow burn romance. This book will have you smiling, feeling empowered, and fanning yourself. A sure-fire win by Tessa Bailey

Review in link below- this us quite possibly the perfect romance. Absolutely my favorite Tessa Bailey novel ever!! Gosh- so swoony!
This is truly a classic romance. Tessa Bailey has this distinct ability to create perfect chemistry and tension in a way that never feels forced or trite.
We get to see Fox and Hannah develop beautifully, and, my favorite part, support each other unflinchingly all the way. I adored Hannah’s strength and her unwavering affection. I loved Fox’s vulnerability and dedication. Frankly, no hard feelings and no pun intended, this blew It Happened One Summer out of the water.
Seemingly pulling off an unthinkable feat, the novel delivers romantic tension even as it delicately unpacks family trauma. Many times I find that conflict in the romance genre can feel overly drawn out or dramatic for drama’s sake. The conflict in this novel is none of that. It’s perfectly balanced and perfectly paced. I’m left with an adoration for the characters and an appreciation for Bailey’s writing ability.
Very few books in the friends to lovers category truly capture me. So, when I find one that does I’m guaranteed to endlessly sing its praises. This is one.
