It’s official - I’m a friends to lovers convert. Tessa Bailey changed me from an enemies to lovers girl with one book about a crab fisherman and a music-obsessed California girl.
Hannah finds herself back in Washington after convincing the director of the latest movie she’s working on to move filming from LA to Westport. This book was almost equal parts heartwarming and heartbreaking, as Hannah and Fox were trying to resist their feelings for each other for so long. The slow burn between them as readers got insight into each of their feelings was so good, and the end was so worth it.
I’m completely obsessed with Fox now. His character development was absolutely stunning, and his genuine confidence in himself at the end of the book was everything. I loved Hannah as a heroine, pushing Fox to see himself just as she sees him.
I really enjoyed this book, and Tessa’s writing style. It had me hooked (no pun intended) from the jump.
I really enjoyed reading It Happened One Summer so I was excited to get to read Hook, Line, and Sinker!! Fox and Hannah’s story was absolutely everything, it didn’t disappoint at all.
Fox and Hannah are characters that are introduced in the previous book and we finally get their story. I love the moments between them so much, especially the vulnerable ones. I wasn’t expecting Fox’s character to be written the way it was and honestly…I was so surprised. I love his character development!! With Hannah I genuinely love her personality and the way she connects with music. It’s not only that but the way music symbolizes something strong in her relationship with Fox and her feelings.
Hook, Line, and Sinker is such an enjoyable read with great characters. I loved connecting with Fox and Hannah. Not only are they interesting as individuals but together they have an amazing chemistry!
Hook, Line, and Sinker by Tessa Bailey gets a solid 4.5 romance stars from me. Everyone knows I am all in for romance novels, and I am so happy that this genre is just getting better and better. Ms. Bailey introduces us to Fox and Hannah in this delightful book. How can a studly, gorgeous boat captain have so many self-doubts? And how does Hannah break through to his heart when it has been hardened by years of people thinking he is a one-and-done kind of guy, a playboy? The dialogue was witty and sweet. The two leads are adorable and make for a perfect storybook ending. This book will be released in March 2022, and I will keep reminding you as the time nears to buy this book. This novel is a remarkable friends-to-lovers story that keeps you turning the page. Can Fox overcome his doubts, can he prove his love, will Hannah fall for Fox, and will Fox let her love him? It was just what I needed to read that was funny, charming, and oh so romantic. There are some steamy scenes but not a whole ton of them. Thanks to NetGalley for the ARC, and I appreciate the opportunity to LOVE another romance novel written by Tessa Bailey.
I couldn’t start reading this book any quicker when it landed it on my kindle! Hook, Line and Sinker is Tessa Bailey’s second book in the It Happened One Summer Series. You should go read the first book before you read this one. You don’t have to. Though you will be missing out on the Captain Crabby and Piper (aka a little bit Alexis).
We return to the west coast of LA and Westport with Hannah and Fox. Friends to Lovers. Small Town. Dreaming big and overcoming emotional roadblocks is what this book is all about. Hannah and Fox have kept in touch texting as friends over the course of a year. Hannah returns after offering up the town as a location on the film she is working on. Fox has been learning everything there is to learn about music, records and turn tables to be closer to Hannah.
I can’t wait for you to take this sweet, emotional and HOT journey with them. I love Hannah’s ability to have songs pop into her head as if she is scoring the soundtrack to her life. Hannah is so protective and caring. I love that she has done a lot of work figuring herself out that her insecurities of being a supportive character only go so far in the book. Fox has a reputation for being a player, but what he has in his heart is so endearing. He has so much to work on to overcome his past. He is a dreamy dreamy man. I was routing for him throughout the entire book.
I know this will be a must read in 2022 and it is one of my favorite books this year!
Thank you so much to #Netgalley, #Avon and #HarperVoyager for the ARC. Opinions are my own.
#Tessa Bailey #HookLineandSinker
Hook, Line, and Sinker follows Hannah, the younger sister to Piper, and Fox, the best friend of Brendan, as they go from friends to lovers. Hannah, a music lover, ends up staying in Westport for a time and Fox lets her crash at his place. And so begins the forced proximity trope!
Fox struggles with always being seen as the playboy, lady killer, can't-keep-a-girl-to-save-his-life type, while Hannah is working up her confidence to finally strive after what she really wants. I loved how we got to see the true friendship these two have before their physical attraction takes over. These two are endlessly supportive of each other and constantly see the best in each other. Their relationship is incredibly sweet, and they were several moments when I couldn't help but let an "aww!!" pass through. Because this is Tessa Bailey, there are some steamy scenes, and they are great! But just know there are not as many as It Happened One Summer. Nevertheless, I thoroughly enjoyed the Bellinger Sisters series. I could read about Piper/Brendan and Fox/Hannah all day!
🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟
Hannah has always been the supporting actress type, instead of a leading lady in her own life. She talks up and supports those she loves, but doesn’t advocate for herself at work or in relationships.
Which is why her friendship with Westport fisherman and player Fox Thornton is so out of the ordinary. Ever since they met several months earlier, Fox has been on her mind, although she’s firmly placed herself in the friend-zone, because how can a leading man want a supporting actress?
Fox has a lot of hang ups, all of them linked to his reputation as Westport’s residing libertine. But ever since he met Hannah, he can’t get her off his mind, and his womanizing ways are over - even though everyone, including his best friend and Hannah’s future brother-in-law, still believe he’s on the prowl. The fact that Hannah has a tendre for her boss also keeps Fox firmly in the friend zone, and allows him to avoid thinking about why exactly he hasn’t told Hannah that she got him hooked on vinyls.
When Hannah’s work as a Hollywood PA lands production in Westport, Fox does the friendly thing and offer up his spare room. Now all he has to do is keep his hands off his friend…
I’m a sucker for the friends-to-lovers trope, and this book was phenomenal. As in, I read it in three hours and teared up at the end, so had to wake up my (patient) boyfriend to rave about this book how emotional I was feeling (verrrrry patient boyfriend).
This was a beautiful love story about a man who doesn’t think he’s worth more than sex, and a woman who doesn’t believe she’s worthy of being someone’s first choice. I loved Brendan and Piper to death, but I think Fox and Hannah may have toppled them off the pedestal. Tessa Bailey KILLED it with this duology.
I am so so thankful to NetGalley and Avon and Harper Voyager to have allowed me to get an ARC of this book! Bookstagram review coming soon!
This book was a lot of fun, giving the feel of a small town with two people with great personalities that are drawn to each other. I didn't read the first book in the series, but the writing style has me curious to read more from the author. I love a good friends to lovers book, it is one of my favorite tropes, and their friendship is built very nicely, starting in this book with us seeing their messages to each other through out the months.
The story keeps you engaged with characters that feel like you could just meet them on the street and giving you a sense of security in how cozy their connection is. I would definitely recommend
**Thanks to Netgalley and Publisher for the ARC**
Oh, oh. Oh my. This book has my whole heart.
I loved It Happened One Summer, and while I expected to enjoy this one, it decided to barrel into my soul and make itself at home. Now I know how Fox felt when Hannah rolled into his life. Consumed, in every way.
This book is a love letter to anyone who has ever felt like the supporting character in their own life. It’s for those struggling with imposter syndrome, always wondering if they’re good enough in what they do, good enough in the eyes of their loved ones and strangers, and wondering if they even have what it takes to achieve their dreams. The character development in this is top notch, and I’ll be the first to admit that it’s not something I usually care much about in a romance book, but it shines through so much in this, that it’s difficult not to take notice. I think it’s really clear that Tessa Bailey poured her heart and soul into writing this.
It takes a lot for a book to make me cry, but this one had a lump in my throat multiple times and I just felt so deeply for Fox and Hannah’s friendship and how much they’d come to care for and depend upon each other, even when they were 1000 miles apart. Friends to lovers can be a hit-or-miss for me, but this one stuck the landing with a perfect score. I couldn’t get enough of the way their friendship grew to more, long before they’d ever realized it.
This also felt like one of Tessa Bailey’s angstiest books yet, and the will-they-won’t-they had me forcing myself to go to bed at 3am because I just couldn’t get enough of the almosts between Fox and Hannah. And when it comes, it’s explosive, with all the fist-bitingly-good dirty talk we’ve come to expect from Tessa’s books.
Just a few weeks ago I wrote about how It Happened One Summer was my favorite book by Tessa Bailey, but this one just launched itself into space with how good it was. Surely, this is Tessa Bailey’s finest work yet.
I have thoroughly enjoyed both books in this series. This was is fun, funny, and steamy. It makes me want to move to a small seaside fishing village!
*read as ARC via Netgalley*
This book is just as good—if not better—than It Happened One Summer. Fox and Hannah work together perfectly, and I adore the fact that they become best friends before giving into their feelings. I can't think of any two characters that were made for each other more than them.
I'm a huge fan of forced proximity and jealousy in books, so I was thriving. Hannah is such a relatable main character and Fox is just so easy to adore. I like that they were both given so much depth. It made their happy ending that much better. Not only did they love each other, but they had learned to love themselves. Truly a beautiful story.
I absolutely love the atmosphere and feeling in this book as well as It Happened One Summer.
This book is based in a small fishing town in Washington and honestly, what’s better than that? The atmosphere mixed with the constant talk about music? The playlist that I made with all the songs included in this book absolutely is incredible.
Hannah and Fox’s chemistry from the start was mesmerizing. The way they both encourage each other and support one another is beautiful. And the ending? I didn’t expect to be hit with all this emotion so suddenly. I also loved getting to see a little more about Piper and Brendan as well as the amazing Opal. I already want to reread.
Special thank you to Netgalley for the ARC in exchange for an honest review!
This was a cute sequel to It Happened One Summer and I’m thankful I got an early copy from netgalley. I didn’t relate to these characters as much, but I’d definitely recommend it to anyone and everyone who enjoyed the first book.
You know a book is good when there's so much hype around it and it hasn't even been released yet. Can confirm: it's SO good!
It's a friends-to-lovers, forced proximity contemporary romance that (imo) is way better than its predecessor, It Happened One Summer, and can totally be read as a standalone. It's far more grounded in reality and more serious. But it's also a Tessa Bailey romance, so it's heartfelt, poignant and character driven with plenty of character development, believable conflict and well-rounded character arcs.
It tackles topics like toxic masculinity/slut shaming men, imposter syndrome, and overcoming your "archetype" - for the FMC, it's transitioning from the supporting actress/hype girl to leading lady, and for the MC it's pushing through the reckless playboy label handed down from his father to embrace responsibility and finally have a serious, monogamous relationship.
The steam level is moderate and it's a super slow burn, but it's perfect. Because at its core, it's two people that want to work on themselves (more willingly on one end than the other) and put their trauma behind them so they can mature and make their relationship work. Their sexual tension, although crucial to their dynamic, is secondary to their growth.
My only con is the epilogue. It does wrap the series up with a nice bow, but besides a peek into their future, it doesn't hold any substance. (Then again, this is the case for most romance epilogues, so it's not really that big an issue.)
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️/ 5
🌿 Quick hits: dual POV, singular timeline; character driven, small town friends-to-lovers, forced proximity contemporary romance; slow burn, medium steam; music loving FMC working in the film industry who's usually the second fiddle/hype girl, emotionally unavailable king crab fisherman MC considered the local philanderer; great balance between escapism and realism. 🌿
Thank you to NetGalley and Avon Books for the digital ARC in exchange for an honest review!
Release date: March 1, 2022
I’ve been on a big romance kick and this book really met that need! I enjoyed it thoroughly and pretty much ploughed through it an evening and a half.
I read It Happened One Summer last month and didn’t love it as much as I thought I would! But this story succeeds where I personally feel IHOS didn’t because the connection between Hannah and Fox is really fleshed out. We seen them slowly lay down their armor and genuinely encourage each other to become better people. Seeing their emotional connection for one another helped me buy their physical connection.
The setting is less influential than Piper’s story which I didn’t mind because it meant we got to spend more time with Fox and Hannah. I loved the scenes at the bingo with Fox’s mom. I also appreciate the view of slut-shaming when applied to men and how that stigma can be so sneaky.
That being said, I do have a few critiques. Fox and Hannah’s lust for one another felt a little intense because it intruded in every scene. They were always thinking about how hot the other was and how much they wanted to touch them, even in the middle of serious scenes. And the conflict towards the end always felt a little soapy. Like I’m glad these two found one another but I don’t know if it’s healthy for them to feel like they physically can’t live without the other. I also felt like some of the sexual tension dissipated by the time the two of them actually got together.
Overall I enjoyed this and would definitely recommend it to romance fans and fans of Tessa Bailey.
Ahhhh yes the obsession with Tessa Bailey continues. After reading It Happened One Summer, I was so torn on if I wanted to read Fox and Hannah's story right away or wait until March when the book came out to read it in it's finished glory. Yeah I went with reading it right away, because I will be rereading these books again when Hook, Line, and Sinker comes out next year. I did not know if there was anyone who could top Brendan in terms of my new devotion to book boyfriends, but Fox is now up there. His vulnerability, and discussion of toxic masculinity all while he slowly pined away for Hannah and did everything he could to make her happy, made him leading man material. All I can say after reading this book is I wish there was more! More Fox and Hannah, more Brendan and Piper, and more Westport and family adventures and beautiful love stories with dirty-talking heroes and spicy love scenes.
Thank you to Avon Books and Netgalley for allowing me to read an eARC of this book in exchange for an honest review. Opinions are my own.
This little rom-com was very cute and a lot of fun! I needed something light, funny, and romantic (because lets me honest, the world out there is crazy) and I wanted to forget all that and be entertained and have those fuzzy, warm feelings I get when reading a good love story. This book was so much fun and hit the mark on all the things I wanted. I recommend this book to anyone who liked "Beach Read", or any other new contemporary romances.
I guarantee you will enjoy this! Pair this with a fuzzy light champagne, and you will be good to go!
Thank you to NetGalley and Avon for the ARC! I was really excited to read this one so soon (release date it March 2022). This was definitely a slow burn and not necessarily what I expect from Tessa Bailey.
On the surface, this is your classic “friends to lovers” and “forced proximity” rom com. If you’ve read It Happened One Summer, you’ve already met Hannah and Fox. Now Hannah is back in Westport for work and staying in Fox’s spare bedroom.
I liked how the book delved into toxic masculinity, imposter syndrome, and over-sexualization of men. I’ll be honest, I wasn’t a huge fan of Fox in the first book but he won me over here!
My only complaint is that supporting characters didn’t play much of a role. I would’ve loved to see more of Piper and Brendan!
This is an excellent take on toxic masculinity, open and honest communication, believing in yourself, and seeing beyond the role society has set for you (or you've constructed yourself).
I am a fairly new reader of Tessa Bailey. I came to her first with her book It Happened One Summer which I thoroughly enjoyed so I was very excited to see Hook, Line, and Sinker available to read.
This book is the follow up to It Happened One Summer, and it follows the story of Piper's sister, Hannah. Hannah finally gets the attention of her boss that she's had a crush on for years by suggesting relocating their current movie to the tiny Washington fishing village of Westport. This was the place Hannah was born, and it also happens to be the home of her new friend, Fox.
The book dives into the developing relationship between Hannah and Fox as they both try to overcome deep issues that stand in the way of this friendship becoming more. This novel is fun and feisty, and a perfect summer read.
I was scared to read this book because I ADORED “It Happened One Summer” and I did not want a repeat of the same story. I was not disappointed!
Fox has been a player his whole life, but has anyone ever wondered why? Now Hannah is in town, getting in his head and making him question what he knows. They’ll have a lot to work through if they want anything close to the happiness Brendan and Piper found.
Fox and Hannah’s book is unique. Their relationship has some of the traditional romcom elements (forced proximity, friends to lovers etc), but it also has some new ones. It’s refreshing to see something that feels new in the romance genre.
I will say if you’re looking for the spice you got in Piper’s book, you’re going to be waiting a while. Fox and Hannah have a lot more to work through before they can start with that, but be patient! They are worth it.
Overall this book kept me in Westport but gave me a new love story, made me fall for two new characters, and reinforced my need to read all of Tessa Bailey’s other work. I definitely recommend picking it up!
