This was so good! I loved the first two books in this companion series but I was definitely super excited to read about Margot finding love. Margot and her love interests are such a fun pair with a lot of baggage and Margot’s character growth was so good. As always I loved seeing the couples from the previous stories and how their HEAs are going. The only gripe I have is not getting to actually “see” Brendon and Annie’s wedding… but obviously that wasn’t super important to the plot of this story. This was a great finale to the series (I think it’s the last one anyways?).
If you’re a fan of second chance romances, definitely pick this book up!
Ten years have passed since Margot and Olivia went their separate ways. Many times, as a reader I get frustrated when characters can easily fix their issues with some communication. But this one worked just right for me. Margot and Olivia were seniors in high school, which is the land of miscommunication. I had a good laugh when Margot and Elle (Margot’s friend and business partner) have this exact conversation.
The spice level for this book is red hot, and the antics of Cat (the cat) are hilarious. I’m a big fan of books set in the PNW, and now I have extreme wander lust to visit the Seattle area again.
You can definitely read this book as a standalone, but you will see couples from the previous two books on page frequently.
I really enjoyed this third installment in Alexandria Bellefleur's Written in the Stars series, which is centered around a group of friends living in Seattle. Count Your Lucky Stars is an estranged childhood best friends-to-lovers romance between recently divorced Olivia, who is struggling with anxiety and and her tendencies to prioritize others' needs over her own, and prickly Margot, who after seeing her best friends fall in love is starting to yearn for her own deeper romantic connection.
As teenagers, Margot and Olivia found their friendship deepening into a brief romantic connection, which quickly ended due to miscommunication and lead to their separation for many years. They reunite as twentysomethings when Olivia becomes the wedding planner for Margot's best friend's wedding, and find that their chemistry and love for each other is still alive and well. I'm not normally the biggest fan of second chance romance, but I found Margot and Olivia's connection really beautiful and believable, and I liked how they encouraged and brought out the best in each other by continually advocating for one another. I also liked the reappearance of Darcy and Elle, one of my favorite fictional couples, from the first book in Bellefleur's series. It's a very sweet story about friendship and love, and I'd recommend it to any contemporary romance reader.
I received an eARC of Count Your Lucky Stars from the publisher via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.
Although I haven't read Written in the Stars, I have read Hang the Moon and I loved Brendon and Annie's story. Now it's Margot's turn. All the main characters from books one and two are in this book, so if you haven't read those first, you may be a little confused in the beginning.
I really enjoyed this one. It's written well and it's really funny at times and also really hot at times. I love when we know the two have been pining for each other, but they don't know. I also love these two characters. I want to be friends with them. They're kinda opposites attract, but they balance each other out.
I really loved Hang the Moon, but I think this one is my favorite so far. 4.5 Stars
Thank you to NetGalley and Avon and Harper Voyager for providing an ARC in exchange for an honest review.
A sapphic second chance romance that will have you laughing so much and maybe blushing a time or two.
This was the first one I read by this author but I definitely plan on reading the previous two books because I loved those side characters. This was just a super fun and sweet story. Margot and Olivia had great chemistry and their banter had me laughing so often. There are some very explicit scenes including face sitting and dirty talk so just letting ya'll know.
Olivias cat escapades had me rolling with laughter, the scene with the vibrator had me snorting. Those scenes were seriously funny.
The only thing I didn't like was the miscommunication argument that every romance seems to have. Right when you thought it wasn't going to end up with one of them walking away and the argument calms down, another miscommunication hits and boom walking away. I just wish it hadn't been there, but how else are you going to have the grand gesture scene.
To be fair, I've only read two out of three books in this series so I'm not giving it a full overview. I did enjoy this one more than book 2, but found myself lost with character names throughout the book as it's been several months since I read the last. Strongly recommend readers go back and at least glance through the second book before starting this one to re-familiarize yourself with the characters and plot. This was a very fast read, and pretty enjoyable. There were a LOT of graphic sex scenes throughout the book, so definitely no crossover appeal for teen readers. I really enjoyed the Seattle references and setting.
Obviously super cute because the first two books in this series are adorable as well! Read it in a day and really liked it!!
Wow, this book was so sweet! I finished it in under 24 hours. It was just an easy, breezy read!
I've never read a F/F romance before. But I read Hang the Moon which is in the same series so I thought I'd give this one a chance! And I am really glad I did!
The chemistry between Olivia and Margot was so intense. And spicy! Damn! Alexandria Bellefluer knows how to write some good smut.
I loved the second chance romance aspect of this book. They really just reconnected and everything fell into place. There were obvious miscommunications, but their relationship seemed to have an ease to it. You can't help, but want them together.
This is definitely my favorite in the series! I absolutely loved Olivia and Margot’s chemistry and their backstory, and it was great to see Elle, Darcy, Brendon, and Annie’s stories continue to play out as well.
I'll read just about everything Alexandria Bellefleur writes. This one wasn't my favorite in the series, but still a lot of fun.
Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for the free e-copy.
I have read all of the books in this series and I do enjoy Alexandria Bellefleur's writing. Like the other books, this was cute and emotional.
However, I had so many moments of deja vu while reading this book. It feels like a bit of a carbon copy of the others. Of course, they're books in a series and utilize the same tropes and come from the same author's voice. So it's not as if they're going to be that different But compared to Elle/Darcy and Brendon/Annie, Margot and Olivia seemed less defined as characters, and their growth felt like less of a focus.
Overall, I did enjoy this book. I enjoyed reading it and continue to like the characters. But I don't think that this will be my favorite in the series and won't stick with me the ways the others did when I read them. If I'm hard on this book at all, it's because I enjoy the others so much.
This one was fine. I didn't feel overly connected to it, which I'm disappointed about. I can't figure out exactly why this one was a miss for me, but I think it has to do with the miscommunication trope. I didn't like that for the majority of the book, Olivia and Margot were thinking that the other didn't like them in "that way" because of a misunderstanding from ELEVEN years ago. Also, I think I would have enjoyed this one more if I read the other two in the series first. I'd recommend this if you want to read a romance with pan/bi rep and/or are interested in wedding planning. Otherwise, it wasn't really for me.
Thanks to Netgalley and Harper Voyager for the ARC of this!
4.5 stars! This was a super cute second chance sapphic romance with just the right amount of steam. I adore when there’s a backstory and these characters had such chemistry and I just adored them. I loved seeing all the couples from the previous books too!
This story might be my favorite out of the universe. I really loved the dynamic between the two love interests and love that we get to see a different side of our previous main characters. This was the perfect romantic blend of heart warming, angsty, and enticing. I’m so excited for everyone to read this story!
I loved this book !!! It's been sitting in my netgally library for a while and I'm upset I hadn't read it earlier. With the previous novels I feel like Margot's perspective was missing in some ways so I was nice to see more of her. The book didn't lack with moments that make the reader laugh out loud, but also allow for being reflective. Miscommunication does play quite a bit of a role in Margots and Olivia's relationship. This is typically not a troupe that I enjoy, but it was so well written in this story that I didn't mind at all.
I'm so sad to say goodbye to the characters Alexandria Bellefleur has created in this trio of books! Margot & Olivia's story was fun and tender and I enjoyed getting more insight into Margot since she has been in the other two books as more of a minor character. Olivia's struggles are relatable and handled with care and I love how inclusive this series has been. It is a real treat that we get to see how Elle & Darcy and Brendon & Annie are doing after their stories left off--I'd read about these characters for many more books! I'd be remiss if I didn't mention how well you get a feel for Seattle in this series. It's a character in itself and the world building is wonderfully done. I can't wait to see what stories Bellefleur comes out with next.
Many thanks to Negalley and Avon and Harper Voyage for the ARC.
*thank you NetGalley and publisher for an E-arc
I am in LOVE with this book! I finished it and immediately wanted to go back and reread it. We follow Olivia and Margot. Olivia is a event planner being given a chance to prove herself by planning a huge profile wedding in just 3 weeks. When she goes to meet the couple and their wedding party in walks in Margot her friend who she has been out of touch with since they had a falling out in high school. Margot is struggling with her feeling of being the 5th wheel now that all her friends are in a couple, so when her high school crush turns out to be the wedding planner she is thrown for a loop. Even more so when Olivia finds out she has to move out of her apartment due to damages in the apartment above her. Margots friend push her to let her move in with her since she’s in need of a roommate, Together in such tight spaces sparks fly.
This was so heartwarming and funny. It’s definitely a favorite read for the year.
As a fan of the previous two novels, I very much enjoyed this one as well! I don't think we got a ton of Margot in the other books so I was especially excited to get her perspective.
While helping her friends plan their wedding, Margot's childhood BFF and "the one who got away" first love Olivia ends up being their wedding planner AND THEN has a leak in her apartment and has to move in with Margot. So we get some second chance love, some forced proximity.
I think my favorite part of this book was diving into her feelings around this "five-wheel-dom" and come to terms with relationships evolving and expanding. I got a little worried that once Olivia came into the picture it would become an easy six-wheel friendship circle but luckily there was some good dialogue around that between the characters.
Just like Hang the Moon with the laugh-out-loud moments (the Ferris Wheel still gets me), this one had moments that made my side hurt from trying to hold back laughter. Margot and her "healthy respect" for cats and then having to deal with Olivia's cat and its shenanigans. Not to mention their hilarious family group chat.
A good chunk of Margot and Olivia's relationship is set on miscommunication. Both in their past, which, makes a bit more sense and I wasn't as annoyed by, and in the present, which just had me banging my head because it was so ridiculous. Even the climax at the end, had me rolllling my eyes a bit because it was so ridiculous but it all still brought me joy so I don't even care.
Count Your Lucky Stars follows the last member in the gang, Margot. Her and Olivia were best friends growing up and had a hot and heavy week together 11 years ago, only for them to grow apart and go their separate ways. Olivia comes back into her life as both the best friend’s wedding planner and her new roommate, and suddenly 11 years doesn’t seem so long ago and all the feelings come back up again…
This book was steamy, the most smut of the bunch I would say. It had some great underlying themes of different kinds of love and how to be selfless without being self destructive. And another very cute couple!
I like how Alexandria Bellefleur’s writing is multi-POV and allows you into everyone’s thought processes. I also love the Seattle setting and the vibes. Overall a cute read.
I wanted to preface this review by noting I have not read "Written in the Stars" or "Hang the Moon" by Alexandria Bellefleur (I know, who am I???). The good news is one can easily jump into "Count Your Lucky Stars" without needing to read the previous two stories in the series, although I'm sure it would've provided me with some additional background into the side characters if I had.
Margot Cooper has begun to feel like the fifth wheel in her group of friends. While touring a wedding venue with her engaged friends Brendon and Annie, Margot comes face-to-face with their wedding planner Olivia Grant—her childhood best friend and first... everything. It’s been ten years; fate seems to have a funny sense of humour. Will history repeat itself or is this their second chance at finding love?
"Count Your Lucky Stars" is an incredibly steamy, sapphic, second-chance romance hitting the estranged besties to lovers, semi-forced proximity, roommates and grumpy/sunshine tropes. It was quite *chefs kiss* and horny. In other words: funny, charming and sexy as hell. I adored these characters so much! Seeing them as adults being able to overcome their teenage miscommunication was beautiful and healthy, something not often depicted in books or onscreen in love stories. Additionally, both Margot and Olivia grow as people in and out of their relationship which I love.
The epilogue was ADORABLE by the way.
