Lesbians. Astrology. Spicy Scenes. What else could a reader need? We've got it all really in this book, It's a fun conclusion to such a cute romance series. I mean it's great. I laughed, I cried, I enjoyed every connection between the characters and even more I just thought it was a good 'beach read'. Something light and fluffy on the pallet to cleanse after a long fantasy book. 4 stars. Great time!
I love this series so much. This time we get Margot's story, and it's a second chance romance that dates back to high school. Margot and her best friend Olivia had a steamy week during spring break of their senior year. But when it ended, they didn't speak for 11 years, both believing the other wasn't interested.
I was glad to read Margot's perspective on being the single friend when the rest of her friend group was coupled up. The whole friend group is amazing and a great example of found family. And getting to see the whole group felt particularly special as we reach the final book of the trilogy.
Alexandria Bellefleur writes characters so well. I realized as I read that I kept expecting Olivia to be less well rounded than Margot since Margot is the only one of the main characters that had been introduced in the previous books. But that expectation was a disservice to Bellefleur's amazing character writing. It felt like both Margot and Olivia were real people, and like I could fully understand them.
This was a wonderful and steamy romance and an amazing rom-com with some truly hilarious scenes (shout out to Cat the cat). I am so sad to say goodbye to this amazing series and so excited to see what we get next from Alexandria Bellefleur.
Thank you to Avon and NetGalley for the advanced reader copy. These opinions are my own.
What an absolutely beautiful ending to this trilogy!! I instantly feel in love with Margot and Olivia's story. I connected with Margot in the first two books and was able to divide deeper into her as a person in this one, which was wonderful. Olivia was also a really nice, wholesome addition to the series and balanced out Margot beautifully. The book can be read alone but I would highly suggest otherwise since the other 2 couples are very predominant in this book. Written in the Stars and this book are my first sapphic novels and let me tell you.... they did not disappoint! I will absolutely read anything else this author publishes.
This book made me feel a LOT of things. Olivia and Margot were intense and adorable and the story was an excellent spin on the "they were roommates/miscommunication" tropes. The perfect blend of spice, friendship, and Obscure internet references.
A great edition to the series! I loved Margot’s and Olivia’s second chance at romance, and I thought the book did a great job of exploring the importance of friendship and of asserting the fact that friendship isn’t less important than romance. It was also fun to see Brendon, Annie, Darcy, and Elle again, and Margot and Olivia fit right into their group.
First off, thank you to Avon or Harper Voyager and Netgalley for providing me with an eARC of this novel. I finished off December 2021 with reading the first two books from Bellefleur’s Written in the Stars series, so was excited to dive back in to the story again. From the other two books, it was clear that Margot is a great friend with a taste for humor. However, we only knew her through the interactions she had with the other characters, so it was nice to get to finally read something that allowed us to see her perspective and to get to know her more in depth. I love the idea that in this book from the beginning, it was clear that even though Olivia and Margot had grown apart and were basically strangers, they still had feelings for one another.
For me, while this book was a fast and enjoyable read, especially at the beginning, miscommunication was a large part of the story, and that has always bothered me. While miscommunication does happen, it seemed like it kept being dragged on until close to the end of the book to keep it as the main conflict/thing holding Margot and Olivia back.
Overall, the story was cute and I was very glad to finally get to read a book focused on Margot and get to know more about her character. In romance novels, it is hard to find a happy medium that is realistic without all readers feeling like the relationship between the characters was too rushed, or without any of the tropes readers may dislike. Bellefleur does a great job of consistently getting readers to like the characters she writers about, which was maintained in this novel as well. Once again, I am thankful to have had received the eARC for this novel.
I am a huge fan of Alexandria Bellefleur. Since "Written in the Stars" came out, she's been a favorite of mine. And again, she did not disappoint with “Count your Lucky Stars”. Bellefleur has such a genuine voice, and that makes her work so special. This book is like a warm hug to the heart, the perfect conclusion to the Written in the Stars series. With “Count your Lucky Stars”, Margot gets the story we all deserved / needed to read (at least I did!).
My first FF romance and I absolutely loved it! Margot and Olivias journey back to each other was just perfect. I love a good friends to lovers to strangers to lovers trope! I appreciated the nod to fanfiction as well. Bellefleur nailed this love story!
So happy to be back with this group of friends!
Margot is the best man/friend/person at a wedding for her friend and their wedding planner happens to be someone she knows.
This someone who was her best friend since kindergarten and after a weeklong fling in high school which meant something more to her they stopped talking.
Olivia, the wedding planner, has since married and divorced her high school love and thought about her friend and the love and lost since high school(I'm not talking about Brad). When Olivia needs a place to crash Margot offers her her spare room.
Um close proximity, major chemistry and so much history. This gets steamy fast!
I love how deep in the feels these books get cause we all live in our feelings and are scared to upset the status quo if the other person isn't looking for serious or doesn't feel the same. But what if they are and do and you don't say something?
Omg I loved all the ski scenes too. I'm Margot looking for the hot chocolate or hot toddy in the lodge. The last time I went skiing I fell getting off the ski lift trying to keep my 4 yo Brooklyn standing and got hit in the head with the ski lift, thank God for mandatory helmets or I could be dead. I was a couple weeks pregnant too. She had fun but I just feel out of control lol and don't want to go fast. I like all my bones as is.
Thank you avonbooks and netgalley for the e-ARC for my honest and voluntary review.
I am so happy to have received this arc. I adore this series and it’s f/f, which makes me even more happy. This wasn’t my favorite of the three but I love how we get to see the characters from the other two books.
Tropes:
•childhood friends to lovers
•second chance
•forced proximity
•”and they were roommates”
•miscommunication
Margot is feeling like a fifth wheel which is triggering her abandonment issues. Her friends are all coupled up, going to “couples yoga” and she feels left out. Her friendship group is changing and she feels like they won’t need her anymore. Olivia just got out of a ten year marriage with a man she has been with since high school. Her job as a wedding planner has always made her happy because she gets to make other people happy (she’s adorable). Olivia tends to put everyone’s wants and happiness above her own resulting in her being used to her never getting what she wants that would make her happy.
I didn’t like the miscommunication between them. That is my least favorite trope and it wasn’t until the 74% mark that Margot and Olivia talked about what happened ten years ago. So we spend the majority of the book wanting them to say that they want each other which dropped it down to a four star for me.
Reading spin-offs with characters I’ve met in previous books makes me feel like I’m coming home. There is a sense of warmth and joy at knowing their story wasn’t over, because I don’t know about you but I am equal parts thrilled to get to a happy ending and then also really sad to see the story ending and knowing that that’s it. Authors who write spin offs give readers this wonderful gift, this glance behind the curtain, as a thank you for investing time and feelings into these fictional beings.
Alexandria Bellefleur, author of “Written in the Stars” and “Hang the Moon”, has gifted readers with “Count Your Lucky Stars”, a brand new love story featuring some old friends. (Don’t let Margot hear you call her ‘old’ though. She’ll definitely have something to say about it.) An LGBTQ love story about second chances and lost love, but more importantly a story about self love and self worth. This is a story about not having to change to be worthy of love.
Margot is rough around the edges, and while she loves her friends and wants them to be happy in their relationships, she’s not looking for someone to ‘complete’ her. She’s happy with herself, and if someone comes along that adds to her happiness all the better. Cue Olivia, the one that got away.
Olivia is charming and polished and sunshine. She and Margot could have had something years ago, but lack of communication got in the way.
I was fortunate enough to make this my last book read in 2021 and it was the perfect book to wrap up an already excellent reading year. One of the themes of Count Your Lucky Stars is the idea that you are enough as you are. You don’t have to change to be loved, or lovable, or accepted. I’m hoping to carry that energy through 2022 and on.
Wow, this series is so good, and Count Your Lucky Stars was probably my favorite of the three! I think I really liked how realistic the characters were. They realized that they were miscommunicating and actually said it out loud. One of the most aggravating tropes, but in this book we can see it being noticed by the characters and taken care of. I really enjoyed that the two MCs were brought back together after having a history. That's not something you see in many books (at least not ones I have read) and I felt like it brought a lot more to the story than a new love or some other trope more often used.
I also really enjoyed how the characters from the first two novels continued being a part of the next story. They weren't just side characters either, they still had significant roles.
There was so much that I loved about this book. The cute and awkward moments between Olivia and Margot. Cat. The truck scene. I hope there are more to come!
Thank you, Avon, Harper Voguer, and Netgalley for providing me an arc in exchange for an honest review
This was my first ever arc and I was beyond excited to dive into the book.
It starts slow but then it really picks up. This book was much better than “Written in the stars”, the first book in the series. I liked the friends-to-lovers-strangers-lovers aspect of the romance. It was good but not great. I wanted more angst and indifference between the characters before they hit it off. I was expecting Margot to be cold and then warm up to Olivia again. However, I still enjoyed the romance. I also appreciated the bisexual female representation. The romance felt more of instant love but I didn’t really mind. The sex scenes were so hot and well written. I could feel the heat through the pages.
I liked how the importance of communication in romantic relationships was mentioned. I also liked the anxiety aspect with the overthinking.
It was quite an entertaining read with a little bit of emotional stuff. This book convinced me to read Brandon and Annie’s story. I know I should have read that before but this can be as read as a stand-alone. I am so glad I gave this author another chance. I didn’t enjoy the first book but I loved this one. Now,I am excited to read Annie and Brandon’s story. Brandon is such a sweetheart and a hopeless romantic. It’s rare to have such male characters in contemporary.
It was a cute romance and I can see myself recommending it to others. However, it’s not a favorite of mine. The conflict between the characters felt rushed and could have been better, but it wasn’t bad. The romance was cute but not swoon-worthy.
Overall, it was a fun and quick read. I read it in one sitting. I am excited for you all to read about Olivia and Margot
Count Your Lucky Stars is the third romcom in the series, and I really enjoy how each of the books have characters coming back in the picture.
This book focused on Margot, who we’ve met before and her friend Olivia from high school. For those who love second chance romances, you’ll enjoy it!
I didn’t love either Margot or Liv, they both suffered the typical bad communication. It didn’t feel like there was a ton of depth to the characters. Definitely some steam in this one if you’re into it!
⭐️⭐️⭐️
once upon a time, margot and olivia were best friends. teen angst and college happened and they grew apart. eleven years later, they are reunited for brendon and annie’s wedding and forced into close contact when olivia needs a place to stay and margot conveniently is in need of a new roommate. in the midst of building a perfect wedding for their friends, the two are also rebuilding their old friendship and the sparks that come with reuniting with your first love.
it’s emotional to end such a very good series. seeing the world through their eyes has been a privilege for me. romance is magical and beautiful and just as possible as brendon knows it to be and i’ll treasure alexandria bellefleur’s version of it, here, with all 6 of them, forever.
that said, i didn’t love this book. not one person is more disappointed about that than me. there was a lot of miscommunication between olivia and margot that felt like i was reading their teenage love story as opposed to their adult one. it didn’t make sense to me. there were also a lot of little comments about margot made by the past characters that rubbed me the wrong way.
however, one of my absolute favorite tropes is friends to lovers and especially childhood friends to lovers (yes, teens are children!!). i was glad to see it featured here. when two characters KNOW each other and the book gives you little aspects of their past selves that the other talks about fondly - swoon! when your family knows your person, when you know your person - the only thing left to learn is love. how to love them, now. how to care for them, now. this book gives you that experience.
thank you kindly to avon and netgalley for this ARC!
Bellefleur’s fun and funny second chance romance features Margot Cooper (from both Written in the Stars and Hang the Moon) standing up as Brendan & and Annie’s Best Woman and finding out that the wedding planner is her childhood best friend and first love. Olivia Grant is recently divorced and just getting started on her dreams and she never expected to run into Margot. It's a steamy romantic comedy with just the right amount of angst and a great follow up for the series.
Event planner Olivia Grant is about to hit her big break when she's tasked to bring one of the biggest weddings of the year to fruition in only 3 short weeks. However, the emergence of her high school best friend, Margot, back into her life might just be the complication that throws her life into a tailspin.
Count Your Lucky Stars is the perfect conclusion to the Written in the Stars series. This second chance, forced proximity romance is super steamy. I loved Margot and Olivia. Normally, I am not a fan of flashbacks, but this book did them so well. Bellefleur has a way with witty dialogue that always has me teetering between laughing and swooning. The thing I loved most was seeing the continuation of the lives of this friend group.
Count Your Lucky Stars publishes February 1. Thanks to Avon for the advanced copy.
Thank you Alexandria Bellefleur and Avon Harper Collins for an advanced reader's copy of Count Your Lucky Stars!!
Where do I even begin??? I have been such a fan of the Written in the Stars series since discovering book one this past February. This one by far takes the cake. Ik found Margot to be so relatable and understandable as a protagonist, being someone who comes across as tough and someone who doesn't stand for anything less than the best. Olivia brought a sweet and sensitive side out of her and made such a great character in this found family. I thought their conflict was done extremely well and that the book was very down-to-earth and honest. I can't wait for this one to hit the shelves and to see more from Bellefleur in the future!!
I received a complimentary copy of this book for review from Avon Books and Harper Voyager. All opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.
Rating: 4.5 stars
Count Your Lucky Stars is Margo’s story, which I’ve been dying for. And it ended up being a best friends to lovers to strangers to friends to lovers story, which is honestly wonderful. The angst? Fantastic.
I loved Margo and Olivia, and I of course loved the couples from the previous books. If I were to complain at all, I would’ve liked a little bit more Annie. But the characters? Great.
I couldn’t quite give this book 5 stars. I think I’m still a little too in love with Darcy and Elle. Maybe I needed more angst. But this book was an absolute delight and if you’ve loved the series so far, this one will not disappoint.
Overall this was a very fun read! I really liked both Margot and Olivia as characters and I thought the chemistry between them was really good. I was definitely rooting for them throughout which doesn't always happen for me with romance. I do also have a soft spot for any type of friends to lovers trope so that could play a factor...
The pansexual representation was lovely. As a someone who is pansexual, I really enjoy seeing people like me in books and having it clearly stated separate from bisexual.
This book was honestly hilarious at times as well. Like a few of the jokes were just straight up Tumblr memes and I am here for it.
That being said, though I did have a couple issues. As is my issue with most romance books, I feel like it was very rushed. The plot was very thin and while there were some slightly deeper subjects I was looking forward to exploring, they mostly all fell flat due to not being fleshed out or expanded upon much at all. And the whole "planning a wedding" setting was barely touched on. Don't get me wrong, it was mentioned once in a while and there were a couple conversations about how important Olivia's wedding planning is to her, but there was essentially no wedding planning content. If you removed the "Olivia being the wedding planner" thing, absolutely nothing about the story would change. It added nothing and that just felt weird to me especially since the first chapter sets up for the wedding planning to be a fairly big conflict of the story when Olivia's boss talks about how important this is and how Olivia better not mess it up.
I wouldn’t necessarily say the romance was “Insta-love” since it’s more of a “second chance” story and Margot and Olivia already had feelings for each other from the past, but I do think it was insta-something. Like once they met again they were instantly in love with each other as if no time had passed. They were extremely hot and cold for a few chapters and could barely say more than a few non-awkward sentences to each other and then suddenly they were getting hot and heavy again. 10 years is a long time and people do change and I think that could have been addressed a bit more. Also I realize that the whole conflict of the book is miscommunication, (which is one of my least favorite tropes, but whatever I can deal with it) however, even after Margot and Olivia realize that it was essentially just a misunderstanding keeping them apart all those years ago, they still never really talk about it. I really would have loved to see some conversations between them regarding the miscommunications of the past and whether they're over it and how to avoid it in future or really just any sort of adult conversation like that.
All of that being said, I did really enjoy this book. I think if you are just looking for a really fun, fast, spicy, sapphic rom-com, then this is the way to go! The official release date is Feb 1, 2022.
Thank you to NetGalley and Avon and Harper Voyage for the early review copy!
P.S. We are going to pretend that I didn’t just see the pretty cover and immediately request this book before realizing too late that it was part of a series that I also have on my tbr but haven’t read yet… So yeah, if you’re wondering if you can read the books out of order without missing much, you totally can! I do feel like it would have been nice to have more context surrounding the romances featured in the earlier books but since Margot and Olivia were the main focus, I never felt totally lost or anything.
