Millie Leclair needs a change in her life. When she inherits her great aunt’s oceanfront B&B in a resort town in South Carolina’s Lowcountry, she packs up her car and heads off to begin a new chapter in her life. What she wasn't expecting is that the B&B is rundown and not fit to be opened without major repairs and renovations. With some money in the accounts she can begin, but unless she does a lot of the work herself, she won't be able to reopen the B&B. When she begins to get hope, she runs up against the local homeowner's association and all their rules about what can and can't be done in the community. One thing in their rules is no one can take money for a night's accommodation. How can she run a B&B? How can they forbid the business when it was already running before they formed the association? The final nail in the coffin is that her handsome neighbour is a single father, an ex-professional golfer AND, the president of the HOA. She has one chance to prove to the board that she is entitled to run the B&B and that she will adhere to all their rules and regulations.
The Inn at Summer Island was a great pick for 20 Books of Summer. It had a great summery setting, wonderful characters, a story of new beginnings and a romance all rolled into one. I really enjoyed this story. The characters were wonderful. I loved how Braxton and Millie became friends and eventually tried dating. Braxton has an adorable daughter and he has been grieving since his wife's death. He is also helping his golf coach, who has dementia and is in a nursing home. He is being pulled in so many directions, but Millie seems to have a pull on him, one that is making him get back out there. Millie is so likable, that people in town come out and support her. They all loved her great-aunt and they want to pay her back by helping Millie. There are some setbacks, and some backstabbing, secretive goings on that gave the book a bit of angst, but overall, this was a great story and ends with an uplifting, hopeful ending. Community, Friendship, Family, love and new beginnings make this an enjoyable story.
this is my new author that i have to read all the books. this was a good one and I will read more from her. These are great stories.
I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.
The Inn at the summer island was a really pleasant reading experience for me. We follow our main character, Millie, who inherits her aunt mildred's inn in south california and decides to pack her stuff and move there.
It has small beach town vibes and even though it's winter it provided me with a sense of coziness and fun. The setting was excellent and i love the vibes of the beach town.
Millie is an excellent character. In the beginning i struggled a little bit with her actions but she quickly grew on me and by the end, i was adoring her character and her personality.
Our main hero, Braxton, is an ex golf player and he's so charismatic and fun to read. I think the romance could've been a little bit more developed but overall, it was pretty cute.
Book was meant for me. Hopefully someone will enjoy it more. I will look into renting it in the future
such a feel good hallmarky book. I really enjoyed it and it gave me just enough to finish and make it through it did leave me wanting a little more but all in all im happy I read it.
I love a good love story and if it's set by a beach, all the better! This story checked all the boxes for me. I fell in love with both characters and liked their story lines. Recommend this book to anyone looking for an easy read

When Millie’s Great Aunt Leaves get the Inn at Summer Island, Millie jumps at the chance to leave Chicago behind and move to the coast where life is slower. She begins doing all sorts of DIY projects to renovate the Inn but does not expect the Ex Pro-Golfer next door to also become a critic. Sparks fly at the inn and not just because of some bad wiring. Can Millie make the Inn a success and will Braxton give up his single brooding ways?
This book was a quick fluffy read. While that is the type of book (ahem hallmark) that I usually like, this one just didn’t do it for me. The back and forth between Braxton and Millie should be a slow burn but it was more like open water where I was finally just rooting for the sharks. Also The characters felt flat. They weren’t vibrant or fun or really anything other than there. I’d like to try this author again but I just didn’t like this book.
I received a free copy of this book in exchange for an honest review. All opinions and thoughts are my own.

When Millie inherits her great-aunt's inn in small town summer island, she doesn't expect it to need as much work as it does. While struggling with doing most of the renovations herself, she finds herself constantly butting heads with the handsome ex-golfer, Braxton, who lives next door...
This was a fun summer read that was easy to get into and perfect for by a pool or on the beach. I really enjoyed the romance between Millie and Braxton and loved the friendships she formed with the girls she meets. t's so refreshing to see nice and welcoming female friends and the ladies of the book club were hilarious! There were some great side characters and storylines and even though many of the twists were predictable, I still enjoyed them.
This was such a cute feel good read, perfect for hanging pool side. I adored the setting, Summer Island just feels like the place to be and I really enjoyed the town dynamic. Everyone was so nice and helpful and I loved that sense of community. I loved Millie, she was fun and determined. I just loved her commitment to the inn & making it better! And Braxton!! I loved him so much! While he started out as a grump he’s actually so sweet and caring and has been through so much. I loved learning about his layers. The romance in this was so cute, and definitely more on the slow-burn side but I loved it. Their banter was adorable and it was just an all around enjoyable read.
This book was interesting to read because I live in SC. So it was nice to read about a book set in my area. It was a nice heartwarming love story. Braxton is a retired golfer and single father and Millie is looking for a fresh start with the B&B. Nice to have a story which is like a Hallmark movie every once and awhile
The Inn at Summer Island was a sweet romance with a storyline that has been done before but I didn't feel like I had read it before. Rachel Mcgee made the storyline her own with characters you can't help but love. I couldn't put the book down because even though I didn't want it to end. I had to find out what was going to happen to the characters.
The Inn at Summer Island by Rachel Magee was a great read! I enjoyed it very much! This was the first book I've read by Rachel and I look forward to reading more.
Thank you NetGalley and Entangled Publishing for this ARC!

I really enjoyed this novel and the story. It is about an Inn that has been inherited and needs lots of work and love. Little dors Millie know she night find friends and love slong the way. Great book.
A wonderfully written story with excellent characters! This is the first book I have read by Rachel Magee, I loved it and it will not be the last! This book was such a joy to read and I could easily imagine it as a Hallmark movie! The characters felt real to me, were well thought out and I wish they lived in my hometown!
Thank you for my advanced ARC copy, it is much appreciated!
Loved the cover, so sweet. I enjoyed this book as it's a good summer story and the plot is fast paced and engrossing.
I found the heroine a bit over the top at times.
Recommended.
