Fans of Virgin River and Chesapeake Shores will not want to miss Rachel Magee’s warm-hearted and witty contemporary romance, The Inn at Summer Island.

Millie Leclair’s life has gone to hell in a handcart. With her dead end job and a love life that isn’t anything to write home about, Millie jumps at the chance to start afresh in a resort town in South Carolina’s Lowcountry after inheriting her great aunt’s oceanfront B&B. Millie is full of plans for her brand new life and her new business – only to find all her best laid plans flying out the window when she gets to her new home and finds a derelict and dilapidated B&B that is barely habitable, let alone ready to open for business. With money in very short supply, Millie realizes that if she wants to turn the inn’s fortunes around, then she is going to have to roll up her sleeves and do the job herself. What could possibly go wrong? Quite a lot, as it happens!

Former pro-golfer Braxton Channing has got enough on his plate as a single parent. The last thing he wants or needs are further responsibilities and complications in his life – until he spots his new neighbor teetering on her rooftop! Braxton charges in and quickly finds himself butting heads with the inn’s new owner, Millie. Sparks immediately begin to fly and although the two have frequent disagreements, a tentative friendship quickly begins to blossom that could end up giving way to something far deeper than either one of them ever imagined. However, Braxton had sworn off romance – might Millie be able to change his mind?

Millie had come all this way for a brand new life, but she never imagined that she would end up finding a love that would last a lifetime. Will Millie and Braxton get the happy ever after they had long given up on? At the Inn at Summer Island anything can happen…providing that you open up your heart and find the courage to take a chance on love.

A gorgeous summer escape that will tickle the funny bone and touch the heart, Rachel Magee’s The Inn at Summer Island is an enchanting, emotional and enjoyable contemporary romance that charms and delights from beginning to end. Fun, poignant and simply magical, The Inn at Summer Island is a story about new beginnings, life’s unexpected blessings and falling in love readers will not be able to resist.

Rachel Magee’s The Inn at Summer Island is a terrific tale romantic read full of hope and heart that should not be missed.

Thank you to Net Galley and the publisher for providing me with this book in exchange for an honest review!

When Millie inherits her great-aunt's inn in small town summer island, she doesn't expect it to need as much work as it does. While struggling with doing most of the renovations herself, she finds herself constantly butting heads with the handsome ex-golfer, Braxton, who lives next door...

This was a fun summer read that was easy to get into and perfect for by a pool or on the beach. I really enjoyed the romance between Millie and Braxton and loved the friendships she formed with the girls she meets. t's so refreshing to see nice and welcoming female friends and the ladies of the book club were hilarious! There were some great side characters and storylines and even though many of the twists were predictable, I still enjoyed them.

As fun and breezy as this book was, I felt it lacked a lot of depth. This isn't necessarily a bad thing if you're looking for an easy summer read but I wish we'd got more of Millie's backstory and I wanted more to happen as the plot felt really slow at times. I also wanted to see more of Braxton's daughter as I loved what we did see of her and Millie's interaction. Overall, I enjoyed this and would definitely recommend if you're looking for a light summer romance! 3.5/5 stars

Rachel Magee is an excellent author! This is such a sweet, happy, fun book. The characters are so real that I wanted to google one of them to find out more about him...except he wasn't real! I could hardly put this book down. It's a perfect mixture of mystery, anticipation, and pure escape. I can't wait for
Rachel's next book!

Oh my god, reading this book felt like listening to this friend of yours who tries to give a dramatic side to every mundane thing that happens in her life... Repeatedly.
The book was filled to the top of certain pet peeves that were making me feeling irritated the whole time, for example, The obsession about eye color, the main male kept describing the heroine's eye color multiple times, it got kind of boring, and it wasn't as if her eye color was rare or something!
Also, the excessive mention of the heroine's "passion" if you counted how many times she was described as passionate, fearless and determined it would fall on about 15 times🤦‍♀️🤦‍♀️
There wasn't any character development regarding the heroine, her progress was linear and kind of not worth writing about? I mean there had to be a hook for it to be engaging, it felt like i was reading a boring biography.
The romance was exhausting to read, they keep going back and forth time and again, they deny their feelings then have some kind of epiphany and start to be open about their feelings and then they return to point zero.... EXHAUSTING!!
The added drama towards the end was eye roll worthy, it was a weak attempt to put some life into the book, but it was too late for me, i kind of skimmed the last 20%
I really didn't enjoy it.

This was a great story another quick read but I loved how the whole town rallied around Millie. Henry was my favorite character in the book I wish there had been more about him before he got sick. I pictured Alice as a cutie that charmed everyone she saw and I’m guessing her dad help with that.

This was such a fun book and I enjoyed reading every second of it, I devoured it in just 2 days! This is a cozy romance, it has a little bit of romance and lots of lovable characters. Millie quit her job in Chicago to move to Summer Island to take over her great aunts Inn. Little did she know, the Inn hasn’t been open for quite some time and needs A LOT of work done! Millie keeps a positive outlook and is ready to start renovating, until she finds out the HOA does not allow any homes in the neighborhood to run like a hotel. This puts a HUGE damper in Millie’s plan. She fights the HOA, including the handsome HOA president and former pro-golfer, Braxton, in allowing the Inn to be reopened to its former glory! The ups and downs, twists and turns that Millie has to go through to get this Inn up and running is very entertaining! This book made me want to move to Summer Island, or at least visit Seascape Inn to see this beautiful property and town!

Millie Leclair is in desperate need of a change, and that opportunity arises when her great aunt bequeaths her, her legendary inn, on the South Carolina coast. Having spent many memorable moments growing up at the inn, Millie believes it’s her calling to carry-on her aunt Mildred’s legacy, however, she runs into some unexpected obstacles. Not only is the historically beautiful inn now rundown and in need of a major renovation, but the HOA no longer permits commercial properties within its boundaries. Millie decides to take on the challenge of both. What she doesn’t expect is the particularly handsome,, secretive, if prickly neighbor, famous neighbor, Braxton Channing.

The Inn at Summer Harbor is an easy-to-read, small town, enemies to lovers romance. There is friendship and camaraderie, a scenic setting, a sweet romance and an inspiring can-do spirit. It’s a touching, charming, delightful story that will lift your spirits and leave you feeling hopeful.

I decided to read an advanced reading copy of this book because I was intrigued by the synopsis and was in the mood for a good romance book.

The Inn at Summer Island by Rachel Magee follow Millie Leclair as she sets out to renovate the bed and breakfast she inherited from her aunt, Mildred.
Along the way, Millie faces challenges with the HOA in getting Seascape up and running again, tries to solve the mystery of who wrote her aunt love letters, and tries to sort out her feelings for her neighbor and HOA president, Braxton Channing.

From the beginning, I loved Millie. She was hopeful, determined, independent, and humorous. She’s the type of woman you could immediately imagine being friends with and working on your own DIY projects with. Her tenacity, coupled with her and Braxton figuring out that falling in love is sometimes worth the potential heartache, had me turning page after page.

Overall, I would recommend this book for anyone who loves contemporary romance and a feel good story with a happy ending.

*I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.*

This is exactly the type of book I have been searching for!

I took a chance on this story by the cover alone, I loved the colour, and the cute dog sealed the deal. I have been reading a lot of new authors recently, searching for the perfect small town romance. I love the community feel and wanted a sweet, slow and clean romance. The Inn at Summer Island ticked all of these boxes and more.

Rachel Magee’s writing flowed effortlessly, the situations were described to a degree that I could picture the scenes in my head (renovations, town festivals and even a hurricane) yet, I didn’t feel the story was clogged with description, it was woven impeccably through the characters senses, speech and experiences.

"Don't walk away because it's hard. Walk away when it's over."

Millie and Braxton were the two main characters and I loved the gentle build up of friendship into something more. The situations felt real to me, not forced scenarios just to get them in the same place. Each interaction had a reason and it brought them one step closer each time.

There were a few subplots and I thought they complimented the storyline. One added another dimension to the characters (Braxton and Henry) and another added to the richness of the romance (Mildred’s letters).

I read this book in two sittings (only because I had to parent for a bit in between). I was drawn in from the start and invested in Braxton and Millie getting their HEA.

"Falling for her was no longer a simple possibility of someday. He was all in, cannonballing into the deep end, fully in love with Millie LeClair."

I’m so glad I discovered Rachel Magee and will definitely read more from this author!

“Nothing is impossible. There are simply some tasks
that require more effort than others”

Millie Leclair was excited to move to South Carolina when she inherited the oceanfront Bed and Bath from her Great-Aunt Mildred. She remembers all the fun times she had with her great-aunt and her father when they use to visit every summer. She was taken back by the condition of her new home, but she wasn’t going to let it keep her from her dreams. She was committed to restoring and reopening Seascape Inn. Her next-door neighbor, Braxton Channing, was president of the HOA which was against her reopening the B&B. Braxton admired her tenacity and her passion for life. She brought light back into his life and gave him hope.
This was a beautiful story and I loved how Mildred’s life impacted so many people in the small community of Summer Island. Her words of wisdom inspired a lot of her friends and neighbors. This was a new-to-me author, and I am so glad I had a chance to discover her work. It was a story of regret, guilt, and hope that will surely touch your heart. The characters were charming, and the story was well written. I enjoyed reading it and would read it again.
I received an ARC and am willingly leaving a review. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

This is a good, very predictable romance. The characters are fun to read about. It is set at the beach ( my favorite place ) and involves a renovation of an old house - something else that I also enjoy! It's a sweet romance - all about falling in love. The whole community was involved in this story.

I wouldn't mind reading a book about the other people in this community. This is my first read of Rachel Magee - I will look at her other books and look forward to her next new one.

“What do you mean you read a romance book?” I hear you asking. Yes I know, and whilst it was very strange that everything was happy and joyful and nobody died I did still manage to really enjoy this sweet little read.

Now because I am by no means an expert in romance novels I’m going to assume this is what the experts would call a clean romance. The story was like a great big gooey marshmallow and there was absolutely zero steam, it was just an all-round warm fuzzy book.

I was lucky enough to dip my toe into this genre thanks to Netgally which was perfect for me because I read it on my kindle at night before going to sleep, and it was actually a nice change not to read about psychos and mayhem before turning off the light – lol.

Set in South Carolina, Millie finds herself on Summer Island after having been left her Great Aunts rundown bed & breakfast hotel. With plans for a complete sea change, Millie is looking forward to diving head first into her new life and bringing the bed & breakfast back to its original glory. What better way to honour her Great Aunt Mildred.

Unfortunately the local head of the Home Owners Association Braxton has other ideas and the locals are making it anything but a warm welcome for Millie.

After a few teething problems however Millie soon discovers Summer Island is a wonderful place to live and everyone rallies around to help everyone else. Even the frosty Braxton seems to be coming around. So much so that Millie feels the unwanted flutter of butterflies whenever she is around him.

Braxton himself also seems to be falling hard for the beautiful new arrival, something he’s definitely not ready for and an area of his life he was happy to keep guarded after the tragic loss of his wife.

A light easy read that is perfect to pick up as a quick summer read. Thank you so much Netgalley and Entangled Publishing for the opportunity to read this super sweet romance

Millie has a dead end career, and she inherits her great aunts ocean front bed and breakfast. So Millie has nothing to keep her at ber dead end job, and has no relationship, she packs up her belongigns and her dog, and moves. Only to find out the bed and breakfast is run down and needs a lot of repairs, to bring the place up to code. And it will cost a lot of money which is pretty slim. So Millie decides she will do as much of the repairs as she can.

Millie also meets Braxton, who is an ex pro golfer, and a single parent. He decided to talk to her about safety. Braxton finds homself wanting to help Millie work on her bed and breakfast. And finds that he wants to spend more and more time with her, eventhough he swore off relationships after his wife's passing.

This was a cute wholesome sweet romance witha HEA. I would recommend this book. It was a fast read (I believe I had it read in a day)

Millie though she had a plan when she thought of how the old B&B looked when she use to visit but well the bubble gets popped when she arrives and finds things are most definitely what she thought they would be which means she has a lot of work cut out for her. Thus begins a love hate relationship with her next door neighbor Braxton who appears to be trying to do anything to stop her from breathing new life into the old B&B yet also helping her with renovations. Millie gets to meet new and old friends who welcome her with open arms and she gets to see what life with love is all about including the hot n cold Braxton. I absolutely loved Millie's attitude and determination to see things through no matter what the obstacles are including a hurricane and also seeing her fall for Braxton just as he does for her, add in the mystery of the letters she gets keep getting makes for a perfect read!!!

I loved this book! Rachel Magee is a "one click" author for me, and this is my favorite of hers so far. The setting of Summer Island is fantastic and beautifully executed, you can practically feel the ocean breeze as you read. Millie and Braxton are wonderfully sympathetic characters, caught in an impossible situation as Millie wants to restore an old inn on the coast, and Braxton is the head of the HOA association that won't allow a hotel in the neighborhood. Throw in a fun cast of locals, and an adorable dog named Bear, and you have the perfect read to sweep you away. Highly recommend

I was looking for a fun summer read and picked up The Inn at Summer Island. While I devoured the book, not wanting to go to bed until I read the very last page, it was not as fluffy as I thought. The storyline had more depth than I expected, and I really really liked it. The characters had real issues, real lives, and huge hearts. In short, I found more then I hoped for while reading The Inn at Summer Island.

Millie is a strong and smart woman. She decided what she wanted and did what she could to follow her dreams. She took what was left to her by her great-aunt and made it into what it use to be. The HOA was working against her, her neighbor was steamy, and the community was supportive. Millie never gave up her dream and did the work to find a way to turn The Inn into its former glory.

Everything about this book is great. I recommend picking up your own copy and meeting the wonderful community of Summer Island.

What a delightful, light and fun read. It’s set in a small beach town in South Carolina.

Millie Leclair inherits a B&B from her late aunt and she quits her job and moves to Summer Island for a fresh start and to run the B&B. She realizes that she has her work cut out for her with the inn, and things only get tougher wen Braxton Channing shows up.

I loved the sense of community and love, and how almost everyone helped Millie.

If you are looking for a light, fun and endearing read, this book is for you!
