This book has the same loveable characters from Dial A for Aunties. This time it's Meddy's wedding and just like the first book chaos ensues! The book is laugh out loud funny and the plot is a comedy of errors that you can't help but feel completely invested in. The family run company they hired for the wedding are revealed to be mafia and now Meddy and her aunties must try and prevent them from "taking out" a wedding guest while also making sure the day isn't completely ruined. Every decision they make leads to more and more shenanigans, that are completely outlandish, yet, feel very real. This was such a fun read that I can't wait to recommend!

Meddelin Chan reconnected with her college sweetheart, Nathan, while photographing a wedding …and trying to dispose of a dead body(!) with the help of her traditional but unconventional Chinese/Indonesian family in Dial A for Aunties. That book was an unexpected breath of fresh air with riduculous over the top rom-com moments that rang true in a oddly heartfelt way.

Now Meddy and Nathan are planning their wedding day and want the four aunts to enjoy the event as guests instead of vendors. As a compromise, the couple selects a Chinese-Indonesian family-run company to handle the big day and Meddy is grateful to find she gets along so well with her photographer, Staphanie (yes, that spelling is correct). The night before the nuptials, Meddy overhears Staphanie discussing “taking out a target” … and is stunned to realize this family is … family — as in mafia family(!) — and they’re using her wedding to get rid of someone! Her special day turns into a race to discover who the target is and keep her aunties safe. But really, it’s the mafia who should be worried about the aunties!

While this sequel is another fun cozy, it lacks the unexpected charm of Dial A for Aunties for me. The over the top scenes in this book felt like it was trying to recapture the magic of book one …but trying a little too hard to be genuine laugh out loud moments.

Thanks to Berkley Publishing Group and NetGalley for providing me with an ARC in exchange for my honest review. Four Aunties and a Wedding is scheduled for release on March 29, 2022.

Thank you @berkleyromance for a copy of Four Aunties and a Wedding.

If you love the first book with all the meddling of the aunties and all the craziness, this book continues with the shenanigans. This time it’s Meddy’s wedding to Nathan and it’s set in England.

I enjoyed this one a lot more than the first book I think because I knew what to expect. The aunties are their actions are full of laughs and I love how good Nathan is to Meddy and her family. I can’t wait for the next book.

In the sequel to Dial A for Aunties, Meddelin (Meddy) and the four aunties are back to their crazy shenanigans. I knew I was going to enjoy this book as soon as I started laughing from just reading the synopsis.

I may have an unpopular opinion from most readers, but I thought the sequel was funnier than its predecessor. The stakes are different in Four Aunties, as this time the focus is on Meddlin's wedding to her college sweetheart, Nathan. Nathan's parents are as opposite to the aunties as one can get and their union reminded me of Meet the Fockers, which I though was hilarious. Though as funny as some parts were, other parts left me feeling extremely stressed whenever the aunties did something over-the-top to embarrass Meddy on her wedding day.

Overall, I enjoyed this read and laughed out loud more than a dozen times. Yes, it does require a reader to suspend disbelief but if you're looking for a fun and light read, I recommend this one. And I'm hoping for another sequel, as I wanted to read more about Nathan's parents.

Meddy Chan has worked countless weddings with her family’s wedding planning company. Now that she’s getting married, she’s letting her family relax and hiring another respectable Indonesian-Chinese family business to plan her special day. But then an overheard phone call reveals that Meddy has accidentally hired the mafia and they’re using her wedding to conduct shady business.

This series is so completely ridiculous and hilarious and absurd, but even still has sweet moments that make your heart grow three sizes. I love Meddy Chan and her aunties, and I'll read every book about their adventures!

**Many thanks to Shelf Awareness, NetGalley, Berkley, and Jesse Q. Sutanto for an ARC of this book!**

Mayhem, the mafia, murder, and....matrimony?!

Those 4 'M's...and 4 meddling Aunties...take what should be a lovely and momentous occasion...and turn it into pure chaotic craziness!

Meddy Chan and fiancé Nathan are getting hitched in the chapel that served as inspiration for the Harry Potter Great Hall, and of course, Meddy's larger-than-life quartet of Aunties are in tow. Festooned in komodo dragon fascinators (because why not), The aunties have also been put in charge of the behind-the-scenes of Meddy's big day, and they've enlisted the help of Staphanie to serve as wedding photographer, who brings her uncles in tow to help as other wedding vendors. What takes Meddy by surprise, however, is when she hears Staphanie talking about taking out a 'queen'...and she comes to the horrifying realization that she may have invited the mafia to her wedding...and the hit is about to precede her honeymoon! Can Meddy and her mob of aunties keep it together on the altar, save the intended target...and keep Meddy's husband and the wedding guests in the dark? Or will their bumbling wacky ways put ALL of the guests in danger?

New to the Aunties series, it took me a few minutes to get acquainted with Meddy and all of her various aunties, but I found it easy to get up to speed with their quirks for the most part. Sutanto does a fair job of introducing different bits of the plot throughout this book (and tying the two together when necessary) to keep a new reader in the loop. While this was admirable, I know the plot itself was designed to elicit lots of laughs, but I couldn't quite connect with the humor. All of these characters are charming and lovable and might well remind you of your own relatives in some ways, but the PLOT in this one was a bit too over the top for my tastes.

I couldn't quite buy in to how Meddy ignored her own wedding (A LOT), how husband Nathan was a bit too pitch-perfect-dreamboat of a man, not to mention how the wedding guests sort of just faded into the background for the most part throughout. Meddy herself acknowledges that when she figures out part of the opposition's plot that it was far fetched, and if she'd looked closer, she would have noticed certain telling details (I think she might have even CALLED them plot holes!) and that also contributed to my difficulty throwing caution to the wind and going along for the ride.

Fans of romantic cozies who don't mind a bit of the OTT in their plots will devour this one! But though I feel these four ladies put the auntie in 'enchanty...ing' (okay, that was a bit of a stretch) I consider myself a bit of a Runaway Bride from this particular wedding (but who says I won't swing by for installment number three and a picture-perfect ending?) 😉

I was a little disappointed with this one because the first book had me laughing so hard and this one did not. It goes way overboard in all the antics, which I get is the point but I mean even more overboard than that. It's still funny and cute but by the end I was very stressed out. I still recommend picking this up because everyone needs to read about Meddy and Nathan's wedding after the first book! 3.5 stars rounded up.

DNF at Ch 10

I enjoyed the first book—to a point. The slapstick antics and family humor had their charm. But I didn't love Meddy and I wasn't cool with the amount of suspension of belief the story demanded of me. I thought I was being too picky for a debut, so I requested this one for a second go-around.

Mistakes were made.

The aunties are hilarious, as they're meant to be, and a big part of the humor is supposed to revolve around Meddy's secondhand embarrassment. If this were just an occasional occurrence, fine whatever. But it's ALL the time, about every single thing, and you start wondering why Meddy doesn't either have a solid sit-down with her family about their behavior or just be OK with letting them be who they are. Stuck in Meddy's first-person POV, the comedy just becomes an endless string of discomfort.

I just think this series is more suited for the screen.

I absolutely loved Dial A for Aunties so I was super excited to see a sequel was coming. All too often an author isn't able to capture the spirit of a first volume when writing the second, but that wasn't the case with Four Aunties and a Wedding. The characters are still as charming and maddening as before, the plot is just as crazy, and I was just as hooked! What I love about this series is it's heart and the ridiculous antics of the characters and that was all here.

The she-Chan-igans continue in this thrilling, laugh-out-loud sequel to "Dial A for Aunties"!

At long, long last (far, far too long, if you ask Ma and the Aunties) Meddy Chan is getting married to her beloved Nathan! She's got the dress, a wedding venue in England, and... a surprise from her mother and aunts? After the last "surprise" that Meddy got from Ma and the Aunties resulted in a dead body, Meddy is hesitant. But when the surprise turns out to be another Chinese-Indonesian wedding planning family who will take care of all the details for the Chans, Meddy is pleasantly surprised and forms an immediate bond with her wedding photographer, Staphanie.

However, all quickly goes downhill when Meddy learns the night before the big day that Staphanie and her family are actually Mafia--and plan to take out a target at Meddy and Nathan's wedding! Worse, they know about the Chans' accidental murder, and hold that over the Chans' head to prevent them from going to the authorities. Now it's up to Meddy, Ma and the Aunties to save the day... on Meddy's wedding day... What could possibly go wrong?

Thanks for the free book, Penguin Random House.

Four Aunties and a Wedding is Dial A for Aunties’s sequel, which means we find Meddy and her family of Chinese-Indonesian women dealing with another crazy situation.
Unfortunately, I’m sorry to say this second book is a no for me.

The first novel — despite including a whole series of events that risk to cross the line more than once and continously challenge the reader’s suspension of disbelief — somehow succeeds in its attempt to entertain and amuse.
This sequel, on the other hand, just doesn’t work: the premise is even less believable than that of the previous book and, above all, its delivery is not brilliant enough to overlook the absurdities taking place.

As the story progresses, events and characters drag themselves more and more tired in a farce that is little fun.
I could see the author’s good intentions behind this sequel, but I can’t deny my disappointment.

I am instead curious to see the Netflix’s adaptation of Dial A for Aunties, I am rather sure it will be good, maybe even better than the book itself.

⭐3/5

A novel with non-stop shenanigans about Meddy and Nathan’s wedding, this bordered on ridiculous and had my eyes rolling, though it did have me laughing a bit too. If only this was somewhat realistic. While this book by Jesse Q. Sutanto was cute, it wasn’t as good as the first book and didn’t live up to my expectations.

Thanks to Berkley Publishing Group for the arc.

Meddy and Nathan decide to hold their wedding in Oxford, hoping to avoid some of the chaos that would come from staying in LA. The aunties want to ensure it is as nice as if they organized it themselves, and they find a Chinese-Indonesian family-run wedding vendor to plan the event.

Meddy immediately takes to Staphanie, who like her is a photographer, and sees a lot of similarities in their families. In the months leading up to the celebration, the two women even become friends.

On the eve of the ceremony, Meddy overhears Staphanie talking about taking out a target and confronts her. Staphanie admits that she and her family are mafia with a hit planned for Meddy’s wedding—and if Meddy interferes or confides in Nathan, she will regret it. The aunties, though, will not let anyone ruin Meddy’s wedding, not even the mob, and they’ll do whatever it takes to save the day.

I loved DIAL A FOR AUNTIES which made me laugh so much even though it was outrageous. FOUR AUNTIES AND A WEDDING also has uproarious moments, such as when the aunties surprise Meddy by speaking in British slang learned from lessons arranged via FIVERR or when they are so proud of their matching neon purple wedding gowns with matching fascinators adorned with komodo dragons.

However, rather than finding myself overcome by laughter, I was incredibly anxious while reading the book. Meddy was so focused on thwarting Staphanie and her family that she didn’t enjoy her wedding, spending much of the day corralling her family which necessitated lying to Nathan. Furthermore, Meddy and her family made lots of unreasonable assumptions and missed obvious clues that further dug them into trouble. I was also in knots about the culture clash between the aunties and Nathan’s parents.

The best part of the series, besides the aunties’s shenanigans, is the affection and loyalty among Meddy’s family, and I hope that Nathan will be part of the inner circle going forward. The conclusion of the book hints at an location for the third installment which I will certainly read.

In this sequel to Dial A for Aunties, Meddy and her kooky aunts are back, this time for Meddy's own wedding, and she gets a rude awakening when she suspects that one of her wedding guests is planning to use the event to conduct some "family business" for the mafia. I enjoyed reading about the madcap adventures of these memorable characters, and I love the representation. The plot was a little out there for me, although to be fair, I think that's also what adds to the appeal of this genre of novels.

The aunties are back and so much fun as they plan for Meddy's wedding to Nathan. I enjoy this series because the books really highlight familial love. They're hilarious and implausible, but the underlying core is so sweet.

In this book, Meddy and her aunts get caught up in a mafia plot. I would not classify it as a romance. Indeed, I wish we got much more of Nathan in the book since he is marrying into the family. But this story is all about Meddy and her aunts. It's great fun to guess what's really going on. There are funny parts and cringe worthy parts and lovely parts.

The book does tell the plot of Dial A for Aunties, so I definitely recommend reading that first if you want to avoid spoilers. But I recommend everyone read that regardless because it's so funny. If you don't, then this book can stand alone. After all the hijinks and mysteries, it's a heartwarming story.

Thank you to Berkley and NetGalley for the advanced reader copy. These opinions are my own.

If you like zany women’s fiction this book is for you. In a sequel to Dial A for Aunties, Ma and the aunties are back for the wedding of Nathan and Meddelin. They’ve chosen to have a destination wedding at Oxford Christ Church (England), to avoid inviting 1000s of cousins as would be the custom for her Indo-Chinese culture. The aunties help them find the wedding planners that will travel with them from California. Unfortunately the planners might be mafia and planning a hit at the wedding.

I love Meddelin and her obvious love and frustration at her meddling, larger than life, Aunties. In the midst of mayhem she is reminded she can’t call her mother-in-law by her name because it isn’t respectful enough. This is over the top hyjinks. I am a big theater goer and half the time I was envisioning this acted out as a British farce play. Nathan is sweet as her perfect groom but doesn’t factor much into the story

I wouldn’t consider this a romance, although there is a wedding and it is sort of a mystery, but no bodies. I think it would be more enjoyable if you read the first book but it does recap and get you up to speed quickly. If a white person had written this I’d be concerned about stereotyping. But the writer is bringing her own experience and I’m learning about a culture I’m less familiar with. Thank you to NetGalley and Berkley Publishing Group for an eARC in exchange for an honest review.

I found this sequel quite charming! I was excited to see Maddy and her hilarious aunties back again! There’s another mystery with just as much humor and charm as the last time. I couldn’t wait to read this one and I wasn’t let down whatsoever! I can’t wait to read the next one in the series, if there is another.

Thank you to NetGalley and Berkley for the eARC in exchange for an honest review!

The first book in the series was so unexpected and such a crazy mash-up that I absolutely loved it. This follows the same formula but it didn't work as well - probably because it didn't seem as fresh for me. There was a whole other family of people introduced in this book and that also led to a lot more characters to keep track of (and there were already a lot of key players in the first book.) Definitely read the first book before reading this one.

I read Dial A for Aunties with my book club and we all really enjoyed it! It reminded me of the movie Weekend at Bernie’s and the slapstick humor and outrageous storyline kept me engaged and laughing out loud. So when I got a chance to read an Advanced readers copy of the sequel, I jumped at it! Four Aunties and a Wedding is a continuation of the format from the first story - outrageous and humorous - but I found it to be too over-the-top and subsequently not as funny. The humor felt forced to me and the whole premise of the story was so absurd that it actually stressed me out rather than made me laugh. Unfortunately I have to admit that I was very disappointed with this book.
Special thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for providing me with an ARC in return for an honest review.

I wanted to love this more. It didn’t quite have the same magic as book one. I wish Meddy and Nathan had more time together. I felt since it was a wedding we would have more of them. I also couldn’t find the ending believable even in a book where it was supposed to be crazy. They were mad enough and knew Meddy and the aunts killed their relative, then found out he tried to make a move on her and were just fine with it?? I just can’t believe they would write it off so quickly.
