Four Aunties and a Wedding by Jesse Q Sutano is the sequel to her previous book, Dial A for Aunties. Meddy Chan is set to marry her sweetheart, Nathan, and she wants her family (her crazy aunts) to all relax and enjoy the upcoming wedding. They decide to hire a Chinese-Indonesian company, who are perfect for the job. Staphanie is the contact and wedding photographer, who Meddy becomes friends with, until she overhears her talking on the phone about plans to take out a target on her wedding day. Once she tells her aunts and mother, they make plans to make sure the wedding is safe, and now the chaos begins.

What follows is a wild chaotic wedding, which the aunts/mother constantly are over the top with their antics, especially taking one by one the wedding planners’ people, in order to protect Meddy and the wedding itself. Meddy was a very good heroine, though her unconventional crazy family members continued to wreak havoc during the wedding, with Meddy trying to keep things in order, as well as not tell Nathan what was going on. This is a difficult review, as the story is somewhat humorous, it is weird, insane and way over the top. It does not help with the aunts/mother/wedding planners all constantly talking in different languages (Chinese, Mandarian, Taiwanese, Indonesian), which did make it somewhat confusing, with Meddy, Nathan the ones who spoke english.

I did enjoy Dial A for Aunties, but not sure why, I found this book not as much fun, or as humorous, especially as it seems to make me more nervous, rather than laughing. Jesse Q. Sutanto did write a fun story, even if I thought it was a bit too much.

I really enjoyed the first book in this series. The aunties are hilarious and I think I would love to have aunties like them. However, this book isn't moving as fast and not engaging as the first one. I think it is really slow and I am forcing myself to finish because I know the premise.

As a proud owner of four (4!!!) editions of Dial A For Aunties, no one is more disappointed by my less-than-stellar experience with this sequel than me. Truly.

I try not to pit books against each other, but since these are installments within the same series, I have to say that Four Aunties and a Wedding failed to deliver the same charm, feel-good antics, and laugh-out-loud humor that the first book had in spades.

Even with me shooing away all semblance of logic and common sense, the plot was held together by a very, very flimsy thread. Try as I might to lean into its absurdity, I just couldn't do it. And on top of that, it was incredibly difficult to find humor in the family chaos when there was an underlying current of melancholy throughout the book. It's one thing for shenanigans to happen at your client's wedding (like in Dial A for Aunties), but for everything to disastrously implode on what should be the happiest day of your life - and forcing you to abandon your soon-to-be husband for most of your wedding? It's not funny. It sounds absolutely miserable. And all I could focus on was how bad I felt for Meddy and how even substantially worse I felt for Nate.

Not recommended.

It's definitely entertaining, but also ranks high for ridiculousness. I appreciate the genuine-yet- racheted-up-for-drama voice Jesse brings to the AAPI experience on the page. You just have to suspend reality a little bit because this one is so wacky, it's not really believable. Still very entertaining and kept me turning pages.

Meddy and her four aunts are back and this time Meddy is getting married!

I absolutely loved Dial A for Aunties last year and was excited to read this one. This one was just as entertaining and laugh out loud funny. The four aunties are hilarious from them trying to impress Meddy’s future in-laws by learning to speak “British” but end up talking like pirates, their outrageous outfits and getting caught up with the “mafia.” It was fun reading about all the crazy predicaments they get themselves into, and I loved every minute of it. I highly recommend! If you’re looking for a book that will make you laugh and smile, this is it.

Thank you to NetGalley and Berkley for an advanced copy in exchange for my honest review.

I friggen love these books, y’all. I laughed so many times, and to the point of tears streaming down my face. Meddy’s Aunts are phenomenal. They are hilarious without knowing they are. They are fiercely loyal and 100% authentic to themselves. I want to hug them and then get into some crazy shenanigans. I want a Komodo dragon hat, a glass of champagne 😆, and to pretend I’m part of the mafia.

I really need @netflix to pick this up as either a movie or a series. Preferably a series since it’s two books, and I want to be able to watch their antics for more than two hours.

Have you read these books yet? If not, add them to your TBR! Then buckle up when you read it because they are a hoot and a half.

Thank you so much to @berkleypub and @netgalley for the arc! ❤️

I read Dial A for Aunties, the first book in Jesse Q. Sutanto’s Aunties series back when much of the world was on lockdown because of the COVID-19 pandemic. That book with its crazy and lovable Aunties delivered so many laughs and left me with a huge smile on my face at a time when I didn’t think there was much of anything that could cheer me up. I therefore couldn’t wait to get my hands on a copy of the second book, Four Aunties and a Wedding. I’m thrilled to report that the Aunties are back and are just as much of a hilarious delight as they were in the first book!

The wedding in question is of course Meddy Chan’s and her college sweetheart, Nathan, and the Aunties are going to do everything in their power to make sure their niece’s big day is picture perfect. If you read the first book, you’ll remember Meddy. She’s a bit more traditional and conservative than her Aunties and sometimes wishes they would tone it down a bit, but no matter how over-the-top they are, Meddy ultimately knows that everything they do, they do out of love for her. Whether it’s wearing hats with gigantic kimono dragons perched on them or taking secret lessons in British slang and speaking in fake British accents so that they’ll “fit in” better at the ceremony, which is taking place in Oxford, England, the Aunties’ goal is to make a good impression on Nathan and his parents. I lost track of how many times I laughed out loud, but the Aunties saying “bugger off” and calling people “tossers” was definitely a highlight, haha!

Even though humor is the main order of the day with this book, there are also a few lovely and more serious moments, both between Meddy and Nathan, and between Meddy and her Aunties. There’s a lot of love and loyalty in this book and it really comes shining through.

The key to the Auntie books is that you really have to love over-the-top antics. It’s non-stop craziness and hilarity, especially once Meddy and her Aunties uncover an assassination plot that is going to ruin Meddy’s wedding and the Aunties make it their mission to foil the plot and save the day. If you’re expecting anything less than a zany good time, you might end up a bit disappointed. But if you want to straight up laugh yourself silly, you’ll definitely want to check out Four Aunties and a Wedding.

Four Aunties and a Wedding by Jesse Q. Sutanto was a highly-entertaining follow-up to Dial A for Aunties that had me laughing out loud numerous times throughout the novel.

In this novel, Meddy and Nathan are about to be married. Meddy, her mom and her three aunts are in the wedding industry, so it almost seems to perfect when they find another family in the wedding business that seems to match their styles perfectly. Meddy hits it off immediately with the photographer, Staph, but after overhearing phone conversation the day before the wedding, Meddy learns the almost too perfect vendor family is actually part of the mafia and are planning to take out one of her wedding guests on her big day. To avoid the raising any suspicions, Meddy enlists the help of her aunts to keep the target safe and keep her big day going as planned.

Overall, this was a great read. The specific plot points aren’t super believable, but that’s part of what makes the book enjoyable. Everything that happens is just so wild and unbelievable that it is hilarious. This is a book that I’d recommend to anyone looking looking for a good laugh while they read.

**3.5-stars rounded up**

Four Aunties and a Wedding is the follow up to Jesse Q. Sutanto's hilariously over-the-top 2021-release, Dial A for Aunties. In this second installment, Meddy and her fantastic Ma and Aunties are back, doing what they do best; getting into trouble, causing chaos and steadfastly supporting one another through it all.

Meddy's Ma and Aunties are wedding planner extraordinaires, but when it's Meddy's turn to take the walk down the aisle, she wants them to attend as her most valued guests, not as the planners. Therefore, they decide to hire out the jobs they would normally handle. They're pleasantly surprised when they are able to find another Chinese-Indonesian family-run wedding planning business to help them. What are the odds?

Meddy can't believe her luck. That is until she catches the wedding photographer, Staphanie, who she has grown close to over the months of planning, discussing taking a hit out on someone at the blessed event. Oh yeah, this seems more like Meddy's luck; terrible. As it turns out, the whole family of wedding planners they hired are part of the Mafia and plan to use Meddy's wedding as the backdrop to their next assassination, but who is their target?

Now it is up to Meddy, her Ma and Aunties to protect all of their guests, while simultaneously taking the mafioso down and keeping everyone else, including the groom, in the dark. If this sounds like the wackiest set-up to you, you're not wrong. It is wacky, wildly outrageous and an absolute blast to read!

I love Meddy and her relationships with her family, especially with her Ma. All the Aunties and Ma love Meddy so much, she's almost drowning in their support. Sometimes their best intentions overshoot the mark a bit, but what are families for, if not to embarrass you every now and again.

This had some adorably played out drama, however, I will say that I wished there had been a bit more mystery to it. I know it isn't necessarily a Cozy Mystery, but it feels like it wants to be. There's so much about this to love, but I didn't really feel like their were any stakes involved. I know there was the hit they were preventing but, that almost seemed back burner compared to the slapstick hijinks.

With this said, I still found this to be super cute and fun. For me, this is the ideal type of book to bring on vacation, or to binge in a weekend when you want to forget about real life for a while. I love these characters so much and hope there's more to this series. From the ending of this one, it sounds like there definitely could be. I would 100% be on board.

Thank you to the publisher, Berkley Books, for providing me with a copy to read and review. I'm definitely a Sutanto fan!!

I want to start by saying this book was a highly anticipated read for me. I loved Dial A For Aunties, the book had me laughing aloud and desperately missing my mom's side of the family. It was a book that I could so uniquely relate to. So when I was fortunate enough to get a #free copy of Four Aunties and A Wedding from @berkleyromance and @netgalley, I was beyond geeked. I genuinely downloaded the book and got started within minutes of having access. Readers, I struggled. The book is slow-paced in the beginning, the plot really doesn't start to get heated up until 25% into the book. Sutanto's characterization of Meddy's family in this sequel felt cruel at times and I know from reading her author's note that it definitely was not the intention. The comedic writing just felt forced and exaggerated for me, which masked the truly funny moments with the outlandish Aunties. For example, I loved their eagerness to learn British slang, or their need for the best designer brand knock-off luggage, or the way they poke and prod at one another. Their genuine warmth for one another contrasted with their outrageous barbs is what makes them feel like authentic characters. It was Meddy's embarrassment and her characterization of her aunts (and mom) that made me dislike her a bit. I didn't love her the way I did in the first book. Once the book got going, it flew for me! I'll definitely be reading any of Sutanto's books, this just wasn't a grand slam for me!

I love the aunties so much! They’re so fun and have hearts of gold. I was so excited to read about Meddy’s wedding and I was looking forward to what kind of mischief would unravel. While the humor and chaos were there, the sequel felt quite similar to the first book in terms of plot. There were so many similarities that it kind of lost its luster. However, I thought the ending was great and liked how it tied in with the first book.

Delightful feel good followup to Dial A for Aunties with humor and mystery. Readers who loved Meddy and her wedding producing family will enjoy all that goes wrong with Meddy's own wedding.

Meddy and the aunties are back with more chaos 🤣 The family flies out to the UK for Meddy and Nathan’s wedding but more chaos ensue! This time there happens to be a mafia who is targeting someone in the wedding. Meddy and the aunties try to stop them bc they just want a proper and peaceful wedding but ofcourse that doesnt really happen. It’s just as chaotic and entertaining as Dial A for Aunties (if not more?!). And same with the prior book — if you expect a super logical plot, this isn’t for you. But if you just want to enjoy an entertaining story full of family antics, this book is the right one!

Thanks Berkeley and Netgalley for my gifted copy in exchange for an honest review. This was another fun and wild ride! I love the chaos that follows Meddy and her family, although I was sad it took away from her wedding day. Her mom and aunties are always funny and so protective of her and one another. This is definitely a series where you need to suspend reality a little, but if you do, it’s a lot of fun! I’m hoping the storyline about Meddy and Nathan’s wedding means there is a third book coming!

Meddy Chan’s wedding day is finally here. After a disastrous first meeting between her Ma and Aunties and her future in-laws, Meddy thinks nothing could make matters worse. Then she finds out that her too-good-to-be-true wedding vendors are in the mafia – and they’re planning a hit on her big day. And she can’t tell the police, or else her own family’s big secret will be exposed.

Just like the previous book, Four Aunties and a Wedding is hilarious and over-the-top in the best way, with the same kind of humorous writing and madcap antics. It does require the same kind of suspension of disbelief as any situation comedy, but if you can manage to do that, it’s totally worth the effort. And for such a funny book, it really packs in a lot of heart. As eccentric and sometimes exasperating as her Ma and Aunties are, all of the women in Meddy’s family really do love her fiercely, and in spite of their squabbling they are completely loyal to each other. I also still really like Nathan and Meddy together, they are adorable.

Overall, I liked it a lot, though some bits of the plot were a little flimsy, more so than the first book. Solid 4 stars.

DNF. I really liked the premise but the writing did not work for me at all. It wouldn't be fair to the book if I finished reading and gave it a low rating.

Ahhh!!!! I was so excited to see the aunties again in this sequel, and this book was no disappointment. Meddy Chan is finally getting married! As a photographer in her family's wedding business, it is now her turn to tie the knot with the love of her life since college, Nathan (who is a DREAM😍😍😍). The last time Meddy, her mom, and aunties were at a wedding, they were trying to hide a murder. Obviously, Meddy has no vision of going through that again, so the family decides to hire another family who has their own wedding business. Meddy clicks with their family photographer, Staphanie. With all of that in check, Meddy has no doubt that the wedding will go well. But then...after the crazy bachelorette night, Meddy overhears Staphanie and her family plotting a murder...at her wedding! Staphanie then threatens Meddy and her aunties to not get in their way of killing their target, or else they're all going down for what they did to Ah Guan (read Dial A for Aunties to know what I'm talking about🤪). Let me just say, despite all of this fear and crime that should get us spooked, the way the aunties handle the situation will get you laughing like no tomorrow😂😂 I definitely loved learning more about the Indo-Chinese culture, and I just could not put this book down till I was done. I'm praying there's a third book to this series. Btw, have I mentioned how much I love Nathan? Such a sweetheart❤ A MUST-READ Y'ALL.

This was a fun, light-hearted read. Similar to book one I don't think that the synopsis does a good job of preparing readers for what is to come, BUT given the wild, organized chaos vibe of the story I honestly think it is part of what makes the experience so much fun!

These characters are laugh out loud funny, they jump right off the page and into your heart. You feel their pride and confidence while also experiencing the second hand embarassment from how other people perceive them. The author really does an excellent job at demonstrating how people don't always care what someone thinks of them while still being able to show readers how their actions are perceived by others. It's truly incredible.

I think this stories biggest asset is its characters and the lessons they teach. While the plot is WILDLY entertaining at the core of this story is a really beautiful message about being true to yourself.

This is a very Funny Cozy Mystery, and this is the second book in the Aunties series. I love the characters in this book series. The Aunties are so funny. I laughed so hard while reading this book. If you want a fun and funny book with a little mystery on the side this is the book for you. I was kindly provided an e-copy of this book by the publisher (Berkley Books) or author (Jesse Q. Sutanto) via NetGalley, so I can give an honest review about how I feel about this book. I want to send a big Thank you to them for that.
