I loved this book!
Sophie Kinsella brings us another fun book with heart.
Effie thinks her parent's marriage is perfect but learns that life isn't always what it appears. Effie finds herself losing her childhood home and seeing her dad moving on from the only other Effie can remember. When she isn't invited to the party saying goodbye to the house, she sneaks in. But not to join the party but to find a childhood toy that means so much to her. In her sneakiness, she learns that nothing in her family is what it seems.
Laugh out loud hilarious and great character development, The Party Crasher is the perfect book to enjoy this holiday season.

I've loved all of Sophie Kinsella's books, and The Party Crasher is no exception! Effie has fond memories of her childhood, raised by her father and stepmother Mimi. Mimi made life whimsical, and her handsketched cabinets are a talking point and memory all in one. At least that's the way she remembers it. When they divorce, that image is crushed. To add insult to injury, Effie's father suddenly has a (much younger) girlfriend, Krista. 

Effie blames Krista for her father's sudden desire to sell the house, and refuses to attend the "house cooling" party. Not that she's actually been invited anyways. Which is how she ends up hiding in the garden when the love of her life shows up for the party. Sophie Kinsella keeps you on the edge of your seat as you root for Effie's success (with one eye covered as you await the fallout).

The Party Crasher by Sophie Kinsella is a classic Kinsella novel that will leave you with warm fuzzies. The main character is enjoyable and the premise is lots of fun. Fans of the author will be satisfied with this new contemporary that is all about family drama.

Effie is quite an eccentric main character, which is to be expected from Kinsella, as most of her novels have a quirky, lovable character. Effie is having a hard time letting go of her childhood home and will stop at nothing to try and protect it and her family. She also gets herself into quite a few predicaments over the course of the evening that are, at times, laugh out loud.

❀ MIX OF HUMOUR AND SERIOUSNESS

There is a good mix of humour and seriousness in the novel and the family drama is at the heart of the story. Effie’s father’s girlfriend throws a farewell to the house party of sorts and Effie has decided not to go, but winds up sneaking into the party to retrieve a set of Russian dolls that she wants to keep. She sneaks in and spends most of the evening hiding in bushes and under tables.

❀ FUN AND INTERESTING

The Party Crasher by Sophie Kinsella is fun and interesting, but not my favourite Kinsella. Also, there is some romance in the novel, but the story focuses more on Effie and her dislike of her father’s girlfriend. It does tie up nicely at the end and is definitely heartwarming. So, if you have enjoyed the author’s other novels, then this one will be just as enjoyable for you.

This book does not have the same sparkle as previous Sophie Kinsella works. It fell flat for me and as a long time fan I was slightly disappointed, however, I am sure people will possibly connect better than I did.

Sophie Kinsella can always be counted on for a great novel and THE PARTY CRASHER is no exception. Effie’s predicaments are both hilarious and heartbreaking. This novel captures the ups and downs of relationships inside a family and outside of it and reminds you that what is most important is always family. This novel reads fast and won’t disappoint those that enjoy Kinsella’s style of storytelling. I received an Advance Review Copy of this book. All opinions are my own.

This book will be one of my top books of the year. I really hope it is made into a movie so I can experience it all over again. I love Sophie Kinsella and this book may be my favorite of hers. The characters, story and setting were just all great.

I've read a few of Sophie Kinsella's early books, which I enjoyed, so I was super excited to get the opportunity to read her latest novel as a digital ARC. I was expecting a light and funny read, which it was, but I was also pleasantly surprised to find that it was full of heart. If you enjoy books about family, growing up and second chances, then I would definitely recommend this ⭐⭐⭐⭐ read !

I usually only need a few chapters of a book to realize that I'm not going to love it. However, I read the other reviews and decided to persevere. I'm glad I kept going.

What started out as a childish and very stubborn idea on Effies' part became the crux of this novel. I also have wonderful memories of my growing up days and now at my age, I can see that I was prettying them up. And that is what happened in Effies' life. But, of course, her father's girlfriend Krista didn't help matters...or did she? Well, you won't really know until you reach the end of this book. Let's just say that eavesdropping can be informative as well as hurtful.

This was a great coming-of-age novel that deals with so much more and has a romantic HEA!

I have enjoyed Sophie Kinsella's books for years and found this to be one of my new favorites of hers! It was sometimes fun and made me laugh, sometimes sad and make me consider my own family dynamics with my siblings. As Effie knows, family stuff can be hard but it's the best when we can be there for each other during our ups and downs. I had a blast watching Effie skulk around the party on her mission. If you haven't read a Sophie Kinsella book, give this one a shot, I bet you will enjoy it just like I did!

First, I loved the main character's name Effie. I knew I would love this book after reading her name for some reason. She is set to break into her childhood home that is being sold. I loved this book because it felt relatable to me. I could see myself breaking into a house while a party is going on. And her relationship with Joe. We all have someone who we still have feelings for from a past relationship. Sophie Kinsella has yet to write a book that I don't love. The writing flows and I felt myself getting completely lost in the book which is the best.

I am really enjoying Sophie Kinsella!

This book was full of all the feels. Effie grew up in a tight knit family in a quirky home filled with memories any kid would dream of. When her parents tell her and her siblings about their impending divorce, Effie’s life crashes down. What’s worse is that her dad met someone new and she’s planning to sell the home and move on. Effie isn’t ready for that and has a lot of emotions she needs to work through in order to save what is most important to her.

The love interest in this was SO sweet. I was so invested in this journey. I laughed and I cried which is all I could’ve asked for! Will be reading more of Kinsella’s books in the future!

Thank goodness this was a win for me! I was really let down by Sophie’s last book so I needed her to pick it up! And she did. This was a classic, funny, heartfelt, and all around lovable novel. I will definitely recommend this to friends and can’t wait for more from SK!

Kinsella is back!

Effie finds out that her Dad and long time step-mom Mimi are unexpectedly getting a divorce. Shocked and upset, she doesn't handle it well. Fast forward to Effie's Dad dating a much younger woman named Krista, who Effie hates. Krista and her Dad decide they are going to sell Greenoaks, the beloved and extremely quirky house Effie and her siblings grew up in and love. A farewell party that Effie is kind of not invited to will be held to bid farewell to the beloved house. Effie decides she's not going-until she realizes that one of her beloved possessions remains hidden at the house. She bites the bullet and creates a plan to sneak into the party and grab the possession, but once there, begins to realize a lot is happening behind the scenes that she can only find out if she stays and hides.

After the disaster that was Love Your Life, I was nervous to read this one. But I'm so happy to say that Kinsella is back! This book brought me back to everything I love about Kinsella's books. Effie was so relatable, at times frustrating but she did go on a journey and came to self-reflect and I loved it. She was so funny and wonderfully written. I loved Bean, Gus and Joe! The relationship between Effie and Joe was lovely. This whole story was so heartfelt and funny. It really did dive into family dynamics and I couldn't put it down. It came with surprises as well! Such a great read, this book made me really happy.

Another great book by Sophie Kinsella. Definitely heavy focus on the family separation element with less on the romance than she usually has. I really liked Effie and found her super relatable especially with how she dealt with situation.

I have always liked Sophie Kinsella. I was a huge fan of the Shopaholic series. I found it sweet, endearing and witty. So, I had high hopes for this book.

Honestly, I can always tell I struggled with a book when I go to write the review and find that not much of the book stuck with me.

First, it took me a while to get into this book. Once there, however, it was cute. Nothing super special and nothing quite as charming as The Shopaholic series. Effie is a cute albeit underwhelming main character way too focused on her Dad and step-mom’s divorce. She seems to have tunnel vision where this situation is concerned when she could devote some of her attention to her own life.

Her sister, Bean, is charming and almost annoyingly optimistic. Her brother, Gus, seems to have his head in the clouds, oblivious to what is going on with his family. The stepmom, Mimi, is a bit of a mystery later on in the book, not acting at all like she’s just been through a divorce. And her dad is ridiculously obsessed with his new, bouncy girlfriend, he doesn’t see his family falling apart. The idea of him allowing Krista to rule over his family, regardless of her intentions, was frustrating in the extreme. I wanted to snap her spandex as much as I wanted to slap Effie’s dad. Him sitting silent while several guests bashed his youngest child was infuriating.

The main theme of this book is family dynamics, or family dysfunction. There’s a lot these characters say to each other that isn’t heard and a lot unspoken that speaks volumes. I thought the premise of Effie running around and hiding in her former house was only going to be part of the story. I didn’t realize it would be the whole story so some disappointment there.

There was a nice chemistry between Effie and Joe and some memorable moments, like when Bean finally loses it, smashing plates and all, towards the climax of the book. But that’s probably the very best moment in the book.

Overall, I found this a little silly. A grown woman creeping around at a party her family is attending so she can find a childhood toy felt a little immature for a writer who’s produced some real gems. Not upset I read it but this is a one and done for me.

I’ve always admired 𝐊𝐢𝐧𝐬𝐞𝐥𝐥𝐚’𝐬 ability to take a serious, every day conflict and bring such humor to the situation. Our main character, Effie, is a hoot and is the perfect addition to her rather dysfunctional but terribly lovable and relatable family. The romance aspect is quite cute too, though not exactly steamy enough for my tastes. 🌶😅

I devoured this book in one sitting. It's just so sweet, and funny, and totally makes up for the disappointment that was "Live Your Life" (For SK fans, #IYKYK)

This book reminded me so much of a light hearted Malibu Rising. It has all the family drama but it's surrounded by hilarious antics, and a Hallmark level love story. The main character Effie is both hilarious and entirely flawed which I love in a female protagonist.

This book was very much a family fiction read with a sprinkle of romance. It definitely wasn't in the forefront but it added a lot of excitement and giddiness to all the drama! I wasn't sure what to think of the plot before I read it, but I really enjoyed the premise and I need this to be made into a Hallmark movie asap!

Overall, this is such a sweet snack-able read that you just will not regret.

While still exhibiting Kinsella's signature humor, this book is a bit more introspective than others by the same author. Effie, Gus, and Bean's father and step-mother are divorcing. When their father's new girlfriend, Krista, announces the house is being sold and she is throwing a "house-cooling" party, Effie does NOT want to attend. Until she remembers her favorite Russian dolls are still there and she wants to collect them. Since she doesn't want to see Krista, she decides to sneak into the party. Her former boyfriend is also attending as well as her brother's partner who isn't really liked by anyone, including Gus.

Trying to remain in the shadows while searching for her things, Effie discovers a lot of family secrets she would not have learned had she shown up as an invited guest. Lives are changed as a result and Effie's idea of family undergoes serious revision as well.

Recommended for all fans of Kinsella/Wickham.

I enjoyed this story, and I really liked the plot idea behind it. However, Sophie Kinsella’s characters start to blend together as they’re all scatterbrained, down on their luck women. It’s hard to differentiate between the books when you only focus on the characters.
