I felt like i was reading a national treasure book. Archeology thrillers are books I do not tend to read alot of, but this was fun. Its a competition, but also we want to figure out the truth. Plus the fact that it takes place in the US, makes it better, because we don't get many archeology stories
*received for free from netgalley for honest review* pretty good read but just not really my cup of tea, didnt care much for the characters
This was a fast paced story that kept me guessing. Was it a plot of terrorism or kidnapping or both? What is this medallion and what did it have to do with Vikings and them being so far inland? What is the significance? So many questions and twists and turns but all will be answered. I look forward to more from this series!

The Coelho Medallion by Kevin Tumlinson
Narrated by Joe Hempel
Publisher: OrangeSky Audio
Publication Date: August 24, 2021
Genre: Mystery & Thrillers
The Coelho Medallion by Kevin Tumlinson is the first book in the Dan Kotler series and was originally publisher in 2016. I feel like I bought this book when it was first released because it is right up my alley!
I really enjoyed this audiobook! Historical discoveries that change what we know about American history, kidnappings, terrorists, conspiracies, and corruption...what more can I ask for! This book was incredible! The story was well told, captivating, and kept me engaged throughout. I found the characters to be fascinating and I was invested in their success.
The narration by Joe Hempel was incredible! He brought this book to life.
I definitely recommend this to fans of authors like Dan Brown, Gary McAvoy, and Tom Clancy. I look forward to reading the other books in the series!
I'm so grateful to Kevin Tumlinson, OrangeSky Audio, and NetGalley for providing me with a free copy of this ARC audiobook in exchange for my honest review.
This was an interesting book and easy to escape into the story. The narration really suited the story.
I would definitely listen to more books in this series and do fully recommend.
I absolutely loved this book. It was fast paced and thrilling. The narrator did an amazing job. It is one that once you start listening it will be difficult to stop. I am so glad to have had the opportunity to listen to this audiobook.
I did receive this book from Netgalley. This is my honest review.
action-adventure, kidnapping, theft, murder, archaeology, artifact, law-enforcement, archaeologist, suspense, Norse, FBI, thriller, Colorado, runes, terrorists*****
Note: I read this one for the first time five years ago, but it has been re-edited and this is a new narrator as well. (I loved it then, too!)(and we are Norse)
The plot centers around opposing forces who have focused everything on an artifact purporting to represent a deal made between Aztec, regional indigenous, and the Vikings and refers to a River Of Gold. Let the action begin! Good story complete with gunfights, hand-to-hand, chase scenes and lots more. The characters are well drawn and the whole of it is as believable as a 21st century Indiana Jones. Loved it!
Joe Hempel is a great storyteller to listen to as he interprets the characters and plot.
I requested and received a free temporary audiobook from OrangeSky Audio via NetGalley. Thank you!
Archaeology, mysterious clues to a Viking presence in early America, and possible treasure are enough to attract more than scholars. A criminal conspiracy to find the treasure endangers the legitimate scientists and they're in a race to save lives. This adventure novel is both suspenseful and action filled. Characters are lots of fun, and the fast paced plot covers the few inconsistencies and hard to swallow science bits. It's a good listen, well performed by Joe Hempel. Best of all, this is first in a series. I can't wait!
**please note due to low rating I will not be leaving a public review for this book as I have not paid for it.**
Narrator 5 stars
Beautiful soothing voice
Story 2 stars
I personally found it hard to get into this story. The history was fantastic but there was very little adventure for me.
The story was a bit long, rambling and farfetched with a main character with 6 PhDs despite not being a child prodigy and just happens to know a language that is needed to help the good guys, even though it's not a language someone in his fields is really likely to know. So, be prepared to suspend your belief to enjoy the story.
I listened to the audio version given to me by Netgalley in exchange for my review. The narrator had a pleasant voice and reading style. He is not the sort of narrator to have a voice for each character. Though the difference was fairly slight for me, I think he had a different voice for Denzel than he did as Kotler/narrator. At times, I wished he infused a bit more excitement or other emotion in his reading.
Vikings, terrorists, and a nuclear weapon? Yep, this book has all that and more. I'd read the theory before so when the blurb for this book mentioned the possibility of Vikings being some of the earliest visitors to the 'new world' it instantly grabbed my attention. What The Coelho Medallion delivers is a fairly solid adventure ala Indiana Jones (though not quite at that level). It features a solid cast of characters and an engaging plot. And Joe Hempel's narration is, as always, quite good. And while I enjoyed the book quite a bit, it is not without its problems. As engaging as the story is, it also feels like it's told in a somewhat passive way. That is to say that I never felt like I was in the middle of the action. It was like being told an exciting story from a friend of a friend rather right from the direct source. I felt somewhat detached from the story. Still enjoyable to listen to, but never quite reaching that end of your seat can't stop listening level, if you know what I mean, and I will say I enjoyed it enough that I might continue on with the series at some point down the road. Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for the opportunity to listen and review The Coelho Medallion.
I received this audiobook from the publishers via Netgalley for a review. A thrilling read, fast paced good character's with an ancient mystery worth a read. Excellent narration that keeps you listening.
Reading The Coelho Medallion’s blurb had me hook, line, and sinker. Adding to that, being familiar with Pueblo, Colorado, I couldn’t resist wanting to read this one.
Interesting characters, interesting plot, good pace... that being said, I overall enjoyed listening to the audio version, which also had an animated and believable narrator. Although the ending was all tidied up to a somewhat satisfying conclusion, I felt disappointment at the end for some reason. That is not due to a flaw or fault with the book’s author, but most likely due to my own expectations.
