If you are looking for the perfect end of year read, this totally fits the bill. Richardson does cowboys like no other author and her books are always a treat. Perfect for a cold winters evening.
4.5 Stars
Last Dance with a Cowboy is the third book in the Silverado Lake series by Sara Richardson. A fast-paced romance with intriguing main characters that make this a real page-turner. Leila’s grandparents - Nonna and Poppy, along with Auggies niece and nephew really make this one a must-read. If you like fake romance with a second chance at love and cowboys who know their wine. This is the book for you!
This was a cute story. I really liked Leila she was a fighter and always wanting to do what's right for her family. August was dealing with hurt from the loss of someone close so he was reserved and not willing to put him heart on the line. While I found the book very predictable, I also found the story very cute. I loved Nonna, Poppa, and August family they were just so fun side characters and I feel like Nonna and Poppa had so much wisdom and was so fun to read about. This book does have adult content and may be sensitive to some. Overall this was a fun book and worth the read.
This was a great second chance romance. August comes back to Silverado Lake after the company he works for acquires Valentino Bellas Vineyards which is owned by his high school girlfriend's family. Leila convinces August to pretend that they are engaged so her grandparents don't know how much financial trouble their vineyard is in. I read the book that preceded this one and it was fun to revisit Silverado Lake.
I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
Leila and Auggie were suppose to be together forever but when his dad passed away and he couldn't come to terms with it, he left her and his family. Now he's forced to return home to take over Leila's family's winery. It's not a simple task because he's not gotten over his feelings for her, she hasn't let her family in on the deal she's cut with Auggie's boss and her brother seems to hate him for what he did to Leila. Now to explain to the family why he suddenly reappears, Leila comes up with quite a lie...they're back together AND engaged. While everyone is thrilled, keeping up appearances becomes a huge challenge because the more they are together, the more it seems like a second chance could be possible. Auggie works to overcome his guilt over his dad's passing and become the man Leila deserves, again not an easy task and when he thinks he's found the solution, it actually digs him in deeper. Where there's a will there's a way and these two are meant to be together. I received an ARC and am voluntarily leaving my review.
This was the year I discovered Cowboy romances. Turns out I love them, especially anything by @sararichardsonbooks
.
Leila has a problem. She needs to keep her grandparents winery afloat and will do whatever it takes, including partnering with her first love who broke her heart. August has the solution but can they work together? Fake romance doesn’t last long when you are meant to be together.

Leila Valentino is desperate to save her family's winery in Colorado. Her grandparents trusted her to take over the business side of things, but no matter what she has tried she is running out of ideas. As a last ditch effort, she makes a deal that she has to keep secret from her family.
August Harding left his family's ranch and has made a name for himself in the company he has established himself with. All that is standing between him and a promotion is the Valentino Bellas Vineyards. He has been tasked with taking control of it for his boss.
What starts as pretend to keep August's real reason for being back in town a secret from Leila's grandparents quickly blurs lines and brings up memories and feelings from the past.
Leila and August's past was over with many questions left unanswered and feelings hidden and ignored. When they started playing pretend, it didn't take much to convince her grandparents they were real based on what they used to be.
This was a quick easy read which was exactly what I was hoping for. I hadn't read any of the previous Silverado Lake books and didn't feel like I was lost at all. In fact, I fell into this world like I had been there before and the characters and story completely stood alone. I would like to go back and read the others in the series because my one real disappointment was there wasn't a whole lot of "cowboying" in the story. As Leila and August are both working on and for wineries, August's family ranch is more of a secondary (or tertiary) setting and doesn't play a large roll in the story. He has avoided going home because of overwhelming grief after the loss of his father, and as such has distanced himself from the way he grew up. But even without the strong cowboy feel, the heart of this story is a western and I am interested to read the previous stories in the series and catch August's siblings' stories.
I adored this second chance romance. This book had good conflict and was well written, The hero and heroine's journey was a fun one that kept me engaged from the first page until the last. I haven't read the first two books in the series, but never fear, this is a stand alone. I'm looking forward to going back and reading the first two books in this series. The secondary characters were also fun and interesting. Huge thanks to the Netgalley and the publisher for allowing me to read and review this book.
Leila and August were high school sweethearts but when his father died he couldn't handle it and disappeared without goodbyes. Flash ahead many years and now her family winery is faltering. Her grandmother is recovering from cancer so she doesn't want to bother her grandparents with the financial crisis. She enters into a pact with Kingston Wines, figuring she'll be able to improve profits by 30% to keep it a family run winery.
Surprised to find that August is sent by the owner of Kingston to work with Leila for the next 3 months. Can they work together to improve profits? Are they able to move beyond their shattered past to trust and work together? Time will tell.
The story dragged a bit in the beginning but all in all a rating of 3.5 stars.
I received a free ARC eBook from Net Galley and the publisher in exchange for my honest opinions.
3 1/2 Stars for this second chance romance.
Although I liked Leila and Auggie ... I just didn't love them. I know Auggie broke Leila's heart when he walked out on her all those years ago, so I don't understand why she wanted a fake engagement with him ... you'd think she would never want to see him again. I don't know how anyone would believe that they were in a relationship when they avoided each other and when they couldn't they barely interacted. They did have chemistry though ... even if they didn't want to admit it to one another.

I had been looking forward to August's story since he was mentioned in the first book in the Silverado Lake series. Last Dance with a Cowboy is a wonderful second chance romance that had me hooked from the beginning.
August and Leila's story is dual POV which I really liked. It allowed me to better understand how August's abrupt ending of their relationship years ago affected them both. Also, it was interesting to see their perspectives as they got to know each other again while dealing with the winery and a fake relationship.
Sara Richardson is one of my favorite authors. She writes relatable, interesting characters and a engaging stories. The story and the relationship development are well paced and I liked getting to go back to visit Silverado Lake and its residents!
Thank you Forever for the ARC to read and review.
This story is the the third in a series. I expect reading the first two would give more color to the world of the characters.
I wasn’t able to really connect with the two main characters. And I have to say that the fake relationship trope is just not one of my favorites. And it started almost immediately.
I am sure if you are a fan of the author this will be a great next installment. Just nor for me.
The previous two books in this series were read in less than a day each, even when I was busy and really didn’t have time to read. I let other things fall by the wayside since I didn’t want to put the books down. Which means this story came as a bit of a disappointment since it took me three days instead of one. Yes, it’s the holidays and I’m busy. But it honestly didn’t hold my attention as the other two books did.
I love me a fake-relationship romance. The fact that Leila and August were high school sweethearts that everyone, including their families, thought would go the distance throws another element into the story. Especially since, for all intents and purposes, August is now the enemy of Leila and her family. Not that she wants her grandparents to know that. The man August works for wants to take over Leila’s family’s vineyard, and has the legal and financial means to do so. Leila must work with August to keep her grandparents in the dark while trying to keep emotion out of the mix. Hard to do when she tells her grandparents she got back together with August and they’re engaged so as to keep them from finding out the dire financial situation they are in at the moment.
Sounds wonderfully fun, doesn’t it? But there was something missing. The flow was way off and there were some gaping holes in the story. It is mentioned at the very beginning that Leila was married at one point, but barely brushed on ever again. And never from Leila’s point of view. Did she love the other man? Why did their marriage fail? How does that play into her relationship with August? It’s very off-putting that it’s not at least touched on a bit more. Why even have it part of the story?
August and Leila have good chemistry, but not the spine-chilling, butterfly causing chemistry I’m used to from this author. I was rooting for August and Leila…then they both started keeping too many secrets. Especially August. They were both trying to protect each other and everyone around them, and the secrets got out of control. And, quite frankly, they started to annoy me. The connection (yes, these two had a great connection although I didn’t feel a lot of fire) they had made the secret-keeping seem out of place in the grand scheme of things.
Listen, for the most part I adore this author’s work. Usually it’s hard for me to put down. This story is by no means bad. It’s just not what I’ve come to expect from Sara Richardson. You can bet it’s not going to stop me from continuing to read her books.
A second chance for Leila and August!
Leila Valentino would do anything to keep her family’s winery in business by even partnering with Kingston Family Vineyards without telling her grandparents. But she never expected that Forrest Kingston would send out August Harding to oversee the project. Leila told everyone that she was engaged to August to hide his real reason being in Silverado Lake but trying to hide secrets in a small town never end well. August wants Leila to save the winery, but will he go against his boss’s wishes!
Last Dance with a Cowboy is a second chance romance with Leila trying to save her family’s business and attempting to ignore August and the real reason he is back home in Silverado Lake!

In Last Dance with a Cowboy, we return to Silverado Lake and we finally get August's story. I enjoy a good second chance love story, so I was all in on reading this book.
Leila Valentino has found herself in a predicament. She's trying to help keep her grandparent's winery afloat and in order to do so, she enters into a partnership to get the help she needs. The only problem is she has a certain amount of time to make things better or she's going to end up losing everything.
August Harding has been working hard over the years to move up in the company he's been working for since college. He's given the opportunity to nab the promotion following his next assignment, which happens to be overseeing what is happening with Valentino Bellas Vineyard. The biggest issue with this assignment is that he's going to have to work with the woman he walked away from years before. The woman he thought he'd spend the rest of his life with.
When Leila realizes she's going to have to work with August, it's the last thing she wants to do. She doesn't trust him and doesn't want to have to rely on him for anything. He's able to convince her that if they work together, they can get to the point where she's going to reach the goals she needs to in order to keep the majority shares. In order to make it work though, they have to pretend to be back together given her grandparents know nothing about the business agreement she made. As the two work together, it becomes more and more difficult to keep their emotions out of it. Will they be able to find their way back to one another or will his job end up causing them another chance at love?
I enjoyed this one, but it didn't have quite the same spark for me that the first two books in this series did. It was still really good, but there was just a little something missing. I did expect a little more "cowboy" given the title. Overall, it was still enjoyable and worth the read. I look forward to what Sara Richardson offers next.

This third book in the Silverado Lake series wasn't a bad read, but the first two books were definitely better. It seemed to drag for quite a while and I felt like nothing really ever happened on the romance side of things until the very end. The book was too focused on the the fake engagement/lies, the family vineyard, the contract and the past, so it left little space for the second chance romance storyline. Leila and Auggie would spend entire weeks apart despite them supposedly being in love and engaged and living within a few miles of each other, so I wasn't just buying that her grandparents were that naive to see that something was amiss.
August and Leila were high school sweethearts. Then Auggie's dad died and Auggie distanced himself from his family and Leila. He struggled to cope with his dad's death and his own identity. I hated that he ghosted Leila for so long when she was supposedly his soulmate. And I hated to hear how Leila waited YEARS for him to return before she gave up. She apparently even got married. That's only mentioned briefly, so we don't even know who the guy was she married or what happened there. It was kind of an odd thing to include and then make no mention of it ever again past a couple sentences. Then there was the mention of August's wine he made that was supposedly excellent and hush hush, but it was never brought up again. Did he still make his own wines after they get their HEA?
August is now working for Forrest of the Kingston Wines brand. He's sent to Leila's family farm to monitor things there after Leila makes a deal with Forrest to keep a majority ownership if she can reach a 30% increase in profits. But she doesn't tell her grandparents that, so she and August come up with a fake engagement to make his appearance there seem more natural given who he works for. Despite them being fake engaged, they only go on two dates (one forced by the grandparents) and their interactions when around others are awkward at best. So again, not sure how everyone in town didn't see right through the charade.
I did enjoy Leila's grandparents. They were too adorable and I think all couples could only hope to be so in love after being together that long. And little Ryan was equally adorable. I loved catching up with August's siblings and their family.
One thing that I never figured out was how Leila was able to sign a contract on behalf of the vineyard when I thought her grandparents still owned it. But the way this was written, Leila had the power to make a real estate decision about the property, meaning she had some form of ownership. But even then, most real estate transactions owners to agree to any sort of merger. They didn't have stock, so she couldn't just give off her portion of the company. I kept waiting for the legality of the agreement to come up, but it never did, so I'm still scratching my head on how this major part of the plot was even legal to begin with.
Will there be another book? Perhaps one for Sam, Leila's brother? I hope so since he was certainly the mysterious character.
Leila is trying to run her grandparent’s winery. She seeks help from another winery and they send August. August and Leila have a past; August left after his father’s death and didn’t return to Leila.
Upon returning Leila ask August to pretend to her grandparents they are back together. I really couldn’t get into this story. Maybe the winery business just is my cup of tea. The story was well written.
August and Leila have a second chance to mend the love that was broken but is their love strong enough to weather any storm?
It was nice returning to Silverado Lake and finally getting August’s story! This second chance romance will be one emotional ride but you’ll enjoy how it all turns out in the end! Let’s just say even the most well intentioned lies are still lies none the less!
Also be ready for some cute melding grandparents and a town that won’t take crud from an outsider and will stand by their own!
A heartfelt second chance romance! I've read the other Silverado Lake stories and really didn't know what to expect for August. The history between August and Gia was heartbreaking. I so enjoyed their path back to each other. I loved how August finally learned what he needed to heal his heart. This book left me feeling happy and hopeful. I received an advance copy from NetGalley and am voluntarily leaving a review.
Second chance romance. Winery financial problems, death of a loved one issues, and regrets are some parts of the story with a horse, young boy and girl adding lightness to the tale. I skipped the intimate details, but enjoyed the couple finding their love once again.
