This was such a sweet second chance romance! It centers around a failing winery, and two people being reunited through a merger.
It's sweet, sexy, and exactly what you would expect from this kind of a story, and I enjoyed my time with it! Can't wait to see what other stories we get!
Sweet second-chance romance
August is finally back in town, but only because his boss has assigned him to assist in the takeover of Leila's family winery. He left her behind years ago after his father died and he was drowning in his grief. Now, he has to decide if he wants a second chance, and if he will help her keep her family business at the expense of his job. Leila rightfully hesitates to trust August, though their fake engagement does force the issue to the forefront more than either had anticipated.
There's nothing unpredictable in this plot, but the story definitely benefits from a heartfelt execution with endearing characters and a strong sense of family ties. As the third in the series, we get to see more of Jane and Toby as well as Wes and Thea and all their kids. The sense of community was compelling throughout, and the HEA was nicely done. I voluntarily reviewed an ARC of this book.
Cowboys are my thing, but this one fell a little short. I liked the first two books in this series and this one was good, but the lies and the secrets just kept me from fulling engaging in the story. I would get into the fake relationship and the tension between Leila and August, but then it would turn to guilt and secrets. It was just the wrong way of fake dating for me.
In this latest book in the series, we get the story of Leila Valentino and August/Auggie Harding.
These two were HS sweethearts that had promised each other a life together. But fifteen years ago, August left behind Leila , the town and his family with a promise to return and he never did.
Nowadays, when Leila realizes she needs help or the family winery will not survive, she makes a deal with the devil, Forrest Kingston. A man that has been purchasing wineries up and down the west coast. The man doing all the work is August, and this time Forrest sends him to Silverado to start the takeover. Once August sees Leila, he knows that he will go against Forrest’s will and do everything he can to help Leila.
As the story proceeds, they make up a fake engagement, to please her grandparents. But when feelings get involved, it all gets very messy.
What happens when Leila realizes the real reason Auggie returned? Will the winery survive? Will the hope of a second chance burn up in flames?
Though not my favorite in the series, it was still an entertaining and sweet story with good characters.
I was entrusted a copy of this book by Netgalley and Forever. The opinions expressed are solely my own.
I received an advanced reader copy of this book from NetGalley for my honest review.
This is the third book in the Silverado Lake series centering around August Harding and Leila Valentino. August and Leila were High School sweethearts, that were planning on spending their life together when August’s fathers death sends him spiraling into grief and depression. August ends up ghosting Leila and they each go their separate ways. A decade or so has passed and Leila is trying to save her grandparents vineyard. They are in such dire straits that she agrees to a partnership with wine conglomerate Kingston Vineyards. They will help with the vineyard, but if they don’t increase profits 30% in three months, Kingston will take over. Of course, August works for Kingston and is sent to help with this takeover. This is a setup for a nice second chance romance. Overall, this was a decent read. One of the issues I had with the first book, also was a problem with this book. August has never gotten over his father’s death. The description of his reaction sounded like clinical depression. It’s about a decade later and he still is not over it. His family seems close, but none of them go to him and suggest counseling? I also felt like there was too much emphasis on the business side of the story and not enough focus on the rebuilding of their romance. I really enjoyed the first two books in this series, but felt this one was just okay.
August and Gia had a good thing going , before one betrayed the other. To save the winery, She needs to be near August and he needs to pretend as well. This is a quick novella which I loved. .
I received this ARC through #netgalley and I am voluntarily reviewing this book
Leila’s backed into a corner. She made a business deal to save the family vineyard, but is forced to pretend to be engaged to her former love, August. I love the second chance angle as well as the two still loving each other but hiding it for various reasons. I don’t think Leila was doing her grandparents any favors by refusing to be honest with them about the gravity of their business difficulties. . I liked the setting, most of,the characters and how it was all settled. I like how eager Leila and August were for each other. Pop open this book and realize why I read it.
Complimentary copy was given for my honest review and opinion. Copy provided by NetGalley.
This romance was one for lovers of good and wholesome romances. I enjoyed the story of August and Gia. I do hope that we find out if Gia's brother ends up with his own true love. I would highly recommend this book.
Leila and August have been friends their entire lives and have dated since high school. They were inseparable, best friends and true soul mates. Then Auggie's dad died while he was in college and he never returned home to Colorado, to Leila, like he promised he would. He left Lei brokenhearted and he himself has been been unable to fall in love as well. His career however has thrived.
August has been working for a winemaker and vineyard in California since graduating college. Kingston Vineyards has employed him in nearly every position and now has sent him to Colorado to help acquire Valentina Bello, Leilas family vineyard. Leila made a deal with Kingston that of she couldn't raise profits 30% in 3 months time she would sell him the winery. And Kingston sent August to make sure that Leila fails. August however is unable to do that as old feelings arise.
Read this beautifully written, sweet, sexy romance to find out how their story ends and to determine whether they end up together and with the vineyard. The character development is done so well that you feel as though you know who the characters are, even the small characters. You won't be disappointed if you like a little cowboy romance!
This was a very sweet book. August is a former cowboy turned slick businessman who is tasked with returning to the winery of his ex-fiancée to take over her family’s beloved winery. Leila is in a desperate situation trying to save her family’s vineyard from financial ruin while not letting her beloved grandparents know how bad things are. When August shows up, the only thing Leila can think of is to pretend they are engaged and in love and that is why he came back… what can go wrong with that plan? This was a sweet second chance romance, with a great ending. I received an ARC from netgalley, and this is my honest review.
I received a complimentary copy of Last Dance with a Cowboy in exchange for an honest review. This was a decent story but it took forever to read. There were so many things missing including depth of plot, chemistry and romance between the characters, and the author went overboard providing details about the wine industry, I was looking for more romance and less documentary.
The bonus read was only slightly more entertaining.
Just finished Last Dance with a Cowboy last night and this is going to be a hard review to write. The writing was good, but I had some issues with not really liking August or Leila. (Also, I'm going to point out that her name in the Amazon blurb is different.) I have to say that I didn't like August at all and barely liked Leila. She was too much of a doormat and he was too self absorbed. Not only that, we learn almost from the beginning that Leila was divorced, but find out NOTHING about her marriage or divorce. Most of the book you would assume she spent the last decade just pining for August. He spent the last decade forgetting he ever knew her or his own family. Just couldn't like it. I'm so sorry, I hate to post negative, but if I am going to read a romance, I don't want to feel like she should drop him for the entire book, including the end. It just fell flat for me. Sorry. Giving it 2 stars because the writing is good, but it loses 3 stars because it really isn't a love story, at least not a good one.
This was a sweet second chance romance between Lelia and Auggie - high school sweethearts who promised each other forever. When Auggie loses his dad suddenly, he is awash with grief and leaves his hometown, family, friends and the love of his life behind while he attempts to forge his own path. Lelia is the girl who was left behind and is still not over the pain. When a business opportunity throws them together to save her family winery, they must pretend to be a couple once again but just how much is pretend. I enjoyed reading the growth of both the main characters. But Leila’s grandparents - Nonna and Poppy along with Auggies niece and nephew really stole the show for me.
If you like Fake romance, second chance at love and cowboys who know their wine. This is the book for you!
Thank you to NetGalley for the chance to read this book in exchange for an honest review.
Sweet story of first loves finding their way back to one another. Actually though, Nonna and Poppa steal the show!
I feel for August having lost his father so young, it drastically changed his life. Gia lives her life in heartbreak after August takes off to heal. It's nice when first loves come back together and Auggie and Gia's story is sweet!
Aww what a cute ride in my opinion! Lovers finding one another again after so many years. Her family didn’t realize how bad the business was doing; he’s just fantastic.
