Unfortunately this book could not hold my attention. DNF. I'm a fan of Shirley Jump but was disappointed with this book.
************************************I received an ARC for my honest opinion from NetGalley.*************************************************
The Marvelous Monroe Girls is about sisters who have grown apart in their lives and are reconnecting. Margaret, Emma, and Gabby are trying to find their grandmothers wedding drees so Gabby can display it in her vintage clothing shop. While looking for the dress they find some old letters that their grandmother had received when she was writing an advice column. These letters are just what they think will make their grandmother feel needed again.
Little did they know that these letters would bring them closer together as sister and help them in their own lives.
I enjoyed this book so much. This was a perfect way to spend my day with this family.
Thank you NetGalley and Shirley Jump for this ARC. This is my personal review.
This is only my 2nd book by Shirley Jump and the last one I read of hers was in 2018. Why oh why did I wait so long? I loved that book and this one was very good also. It’s like a good hallmark movie and a feel good book all around. I really loved Gabby and Jake! Looking forward to the next part of this series. Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for this early release in exchange for my honest review.
This is a great summer read. 3 sisters look for their mother’s wedding dress trying to get closer to one another as they have become somewhat fist ant. They instead find a box of letters explaining a bit more of their grandmothers life. Add in a boy next door for romance and you have the whole package. This was a cute movie that you would probably see on tv.
I received this ARC through #netgalley and I am voluntarily reviewing this book
Read this if you:
*have sisters
*are close with your grandparents
*live in a small town
*love Hallmark movies
This book was so incredibly cute. It was heartwarming & charming & just overall a fun read.
Thank you NetGalley & Forever publishing for the eARC in exchange for an honest review. Pub date: Jan 11
This was just a delight.
Like a warm, gooey cookie straight out of the oven!
This has: future hallmark movie written all over it. The will they or won't they trope is always a good one, but I felt this dragged on a smidge too long. The ending was satisfying and the characters were loveable. While not a holiday book, its perfect for this time of year to cozy up with some cocoa!
This was a sweet story. The book opens with 3 sisters who have lost the closeness they once shared, hunting in their grandmother’s attic for their late mother’s wedding dress. Throughout the story we see all of the girls and their grandmother still dealing with how their mother (and her daughter) passing away when they were little impacted their lives, and is still affecting their choices. There is also a sweet romance between the main sister Gabby and the neighborhood boy turned man Jake. This book had a very slow start to it, but I did enjoy the ending. I received an ARC from netgalley, and this is my honest review.
A good story of you make it through. It moved too slowly for me but each character was well defined
Thank you netgalley and the publisher for this arc
The Marvelous Monroe Sisters follows the lives of the Monroe family through the perspective of Gabby the middle Monroe sister and the sister who swore to keep the family together after their moms passing. As adults Gabby wants the 3 sisters to feel closer as they have grown up and have developed lives of their own, Gabby a dress shop owner, Em a bridal assistant for the local hotel (and a travel savant), and Mary a workaholic jewelry shop owner who is clearly going through something. And then their is their grandma who is struggling with something as well. Gabby just can't seem to get everyone together or keep them happy.
Through some sneaking around and some planning Gabby and her sister(s) try to arrange some things to happen to make everyone happy and while it helps some folks it surely doesn't help her family and Gabby learns a few lessons. She also learns about family and love. And she even finds her true calling.
The Marvelous Monroe Sisters is a sweet, romantic story of the lengths we go to for both family and true love. The things we do for the people we care about. Its a great reminder to reach out to those you love.
Thanks Netgalley for allowing me to read this book. Gabby is missing he two sisters who she was close with when she was younger. Her sisters arrive to help their grandmother. I liked the different characters in this book.
Four and a half stars ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭒
The Marvelous Monroe Girls by Shirley Jump is a lovey heartfelt book about family, love, and relationships. I enjoyed this book so much and loved the characters.
Gabby, Margaret, and Emma are sisters who were once inseparable and are now drifting apart in adulthood. When they gather to look for their grandmother’s wedding dress to display in Gabby’s vintage clothes shop, they find a stash of their grandmother’s letters that helps to explain their grandmother. When they try to help their Grandmother, they also find themselves working together to help her, and they grow closer as they find out more about each other.
When Gabby runs into her old friend Jake, her feelings for him grow and he seems as interested in her also. But Gabby has big problems with the vintage dress store and needs more help than she’s willing to ask for and she’s not ready to add a relationship to her already complicated life.
I always enjoy books about sisters and The Marvelous Monroe Girls did not disappoint. The author does a great job with the complex relationship between these three sisters and I found those relationships realistic and relatable. The story is well-paced and we’re able to get a good understanding of each of these sisters’ lives and motivations.
I highly recommend The Marvelous Monroe Girls to anyone who loves a book about complex sisterly relationships. I received a complimentary copy of this book. The opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.
I really love this book! The Marvelous Munroe Girls is charming, heart-warming and empowering. While some parts did get a bit repetitive, it was an excellent read.
The Marvelous Monroe Girls - Shirley Jump
As the three sisters are hunting for their mothers wedding dress in the attic, they stumble across a box of letters that gives them a bit of insight into who their grandmother really is. Together they decide to use this as a way to get their grandmother out of her funk, and as for Gabby, it's a way to ignore her own life that seems to be crumbling around her.
Some things however cannot be ignored. As she ropes her childhood best friend, Jake, into her plans, she is then forced to face her true feelings for Jake as he lays his out for her. Can Gabby let go of the past so she can move forward?
I came across this book on Netgalley, and I must admit, the cover caught my eye and had me sold. It's unfortunate that summer has ended, because this would be a perfect beach read. The book was easy read, that while seems a tad slow at times, pulled through towards the end. I definitely recommend this book if you're in the mood for a romcom!
⭐⭐⭐⭐/4
Thank you so much Netgalley for the ARC!
Thank you #Netgalley for the advanced copy!
This seemed like a fun quick summer read. I would have enjoyed reading this next to a nice body of water with the sun shining above. We follow the three Monroe sisters and their grandmother aka the lady who helped raise them. We watch as one sibling feels the need to keep the family together after her mother unexpectedly passed away. We watch Gabrielle struggle to bring the family together, all while reconnecting with her childhood bff Jake. We watch them navigate jumping from best friends to dating. Gabby tries her best in all that she does, whether it is uniting her family, helping their small town by setting up a historical event to help showcase their specialties. She does it all.
Thanks to NetGalley for an ARC, because I was so excited for this book! The cover drew me in, and the story didn’t disappoint. It was a story of love, loss, handling grief, family bonds and relationships, and making changes. It is a perfect beach read (or now that winter is coming, a perfect read curled up on the couch while it snows!). I felt like it was similar to some TJR novels. My only issue with it is that I felt like Jakes responses got a little old. I know we were supposed to see how much he really loved Gabby, but it got a little repetitive reading over and over every sentence when he was having a conversation with her. Other than that, I really enjoyed the story and getting a glimpse into the characters lives.
The marvelous adventures of the Monroe sisters unfold in the charming little town of Harbor Cove. Sisters Gabby, Emma, and Margaret have drifted away over the years. Worried about their grandmother's odd behavior, Gabby tries to bring the sisters back together. Helping Gabby search the attic for a vintage dress, the sisters stumble upon letters to Dear Amelia, an advice column possibly written by their grandmother. While helping their grandmother feel needed again by working behind the scenes, making sure her advice plays out, the sisters just may find where they belong as a family. And Gabby just may find exactly what she needs when it comes to love.
The Marvelous Monroe Girls by Shirley Jump is endearing as cookie crumbs, charming as a hot cup of tea, and sweet as honey. The Monroe sisters will warm your heart to the very last page.
Thank you NetGalley and Central (Grand Central Publishing) for the ARC in exchange of my honest review.
This is a sweet, small town romance that could easily be a Hallmark movie!
Gabby is trying to bring her sisters, Meggy and Emma, together again - they used to be a close knit family and have drifted. Gabby needs to realize she can't make everything work out the way she thinks it should. She has a good heart, but tries to manipulate situations. Jake is the typical boy next door - the whole will they, won't they drags out a bit but it's a sweet ending.
Thank you to NetGalley, the author and publisher for a temporary, digital ARC in return for my review.
Thank you Forever Publishing, NetGalley and Author for this readers ebook copy in return for an honest review!
The Marvelous Monroe Girls by Shirley Jump was a very delightful story to read!
This is my first Jump read and I seen she has a lot of romance series.... I might have to check this out now!.
But this is as of right now a standalone novel could soon be a series.
Gabriella Monroe misses the closeness she had with her sisters, Margaret and Emma... who were once so inseparable that their family called them “the Monroe Musketeers.”
Gabby isn't doing good with sales at her vintage dress shop. And her grandmother who is usually feisty isn't so spunky as of late! It feels like her life is closing in on her.
When the sisters come across a stash of old letters which reveal that grandma had a secret life!
Could this be told what brings the three sisters close together again?
Maybe Gabby having something else to think about and do might get her mind off her own problems.
But when Jake Maddox who Gabby used to crush on comes into the picture she finds it hard to deal or hide her attraction to him. And its obvious he is just as into her as she is him.
Only issue is dating the boy next door could only complicate her life more!
Or maybe just maybe its time for Gabby to put herself first and make herself happy!
And this is why I always enjoy a good romance story! It can bring me right out if a funk!
The writing for this book was refreshing and there were plenty of times that I had that stupid smile on my face because of how lovey the characters were. Amazing story!
Writing was good, kept me glued to my kindle. And the characters were flawed and amazing.
Made me actually think of me and my two sisters! Which I loved!
Overall a lovely story, well written book I loved everything this book had to offer!
Thanks again NetGalley, Publisher and Author for the chance to read and review this amazing book!
I'll post to my Social media platforms closer to pub date!
This book is somewhere between a drama and a romcom. I absolutely loved it. I love the relationship between the sisters. The rest of the story was great as well.
