Texas Homecoming is the second book in They Ryan Family series and this is such a wonderful family to spend time with. This second-chance love story shows that sometimes fate has it's own plan for you, regardless of how you think things will work out.
Stephanie "Stevie" O'Dell is a veterinarian and has not been back in Honey Grove for all that long. She came back when her mother fell ill and now she's getting her vet business off the ground by visiting the ranches around the area, including The Sunflower Ranch, owned by the Ryan family. Stevie had a thing for Cody Ryan back in high school, but things didn't work out. That doesn't mean she hasn't thought about him over the years.
Cody Ryan is a doctor and has spent the last several years overseas participating in Doctors Without Borders. With his father's health in a perilous position, he decides he needs to be closer to home. Plus he feels like he needs to help his brother Jesse with the ranch.
During a storm, Stevie and Cody find themselves having to rely on one another to stay warm, and alive. While Stevie still hasn't gotten over what happened years ago, Cody didn't realize how badly he had hurt Stevie in the past. Given the circumstances and the amount of time they spend together, will something be rekindled between the two of them? Does fate have a plan they aren't privy to?
Family is at the heart of this book, and this entire series, and I love that. It really goes to show that if you have good, supportive people around you that love you and want the best for you, that is your family, whether blood or chosen. While this book can be read as a standalone, I have enjoyed both books in this series and would recommend both.

Texas Homecoming, by Caroline Brown, is the story of Dr. Cody Ryan, recently returned from his work with a Doctors Without Borders type organization and the events once he returns home to his family’s Sunshine Ranch deep in the heart of Texas. His father is an MS patient and Cody feels his place is at home to support his Dad and his family.
Once back on the ranch, Cody is encouraged, and does form, a concierge medical practice accompanied by his sister-in-law Addie, an RN. In Cody’s practice he ventures to an older rancher living on his own as a winter storm engulfs their area. While there is time to see to his patient’s health issues, obtain an ambulance, and send him to a medical facility for a heart attack, Cody does not have the time afterward to get safely home. Luckily, in the white out, when a huge buck jumps in front of Cody and he wrecks his truck, he is not far from a barn and tack room on the patient’s property.
Not too long afterward, Cody’s high school sweetheart Stevie O’Dell, now a veterinarian, comes upon the old barn after having suffered two flat tires in the storm. Stevie had hoped to avoid her teenage crush, Cody. But when the weather and circumstances pull them together again, things just might change. Then, when they are able to be rescued to the Sunshine Ranch they must stay put due to downed trees and the results of blizzard conditions.
The Ryan family has opened their arms to Stevie, offering her shelter, food, and clothing until the storm has passed and transport is safe. But Cody just may have opened his heart!
This is a lovely second chance story for which Carolyn Brown is renowned.
I very much enjoyed this book and certainly do recommend it!
Texas Homecoming is a romance story that you'll enjoy. The characters are like friends that you connect with. After high school breakup they both come home for family and decide to see if they can become friends. You'll enjoy seeing how this works out for them.
Stevie and Cody were high school sweethearts until he left to pursue education to become a doctor and she followed a few years later to become a Veterinarian. Flash ahead 10 years and they both returned home to care for I'll parents. Stevie mom passed and Costs dad has MS.
In a freak snowstorm they both encounter truck/van issues and are stranded in a deserted barn. They come to a truce about their past and once the storm has passed they begin to renew their friendship and begin a new relationship. A great read in the series which can be read as a standalone book.
I received a free ARC eBook from Net Galley and the publisher in exchange for my honest opinions.
Texas Homecoming by Carolyn Brown is another terrific story by this author. This is Stevie and Cody’s story. These two have known each other forever. They were young sweethearts in their teens, but can their love most forward after all these years? This story had a very good storyline that included: a blizzard, trapped in a barn for four days together, animals to tend, family love and good life lessons. It was an enjoyable story that I recommend.
Thank you NetGalley for providing this ARC story in exchange for my honest review.
Cody Ryan has returned to Sunflower Ranch after traveling with Doctors without Borders. In high school he dated Stephanie O'Dell. Stephanie is back Honey Grove running her veterinarian practice out of her van.
A blizzard blows in and Cody seeks shelter in an old barn. Stephanie shows up in her van with a newborn Alpaca. They spend 4 days together in the barn before Jesse rescues them takes them to the ranch. Can Stephanie ger over the hurt from years ago and Cody realize they really belong together?
I always love Carolyns stories, they seem to draw me in from the first pages.
I love anything that Carolyn Brown writes. It is always a good book. The two main characters are Stevie and Cody. Stevie is a veterinarian and Cody is a doctor. Stevie and Cody have known each other all their lives, they used to date but Cody was graduating and going away to college so he broke up with Stevie. They both return to their hometown about the same time after being away for several years. They land up stranded in a blizzard in an old barn. Finally after several days in the barn Cody’s brother comes and rescues them. They have some job opportunities and decisions to make. They have an attraction to each other, and realize they love each other.
Another great Carolyn brown book. Two dr, who were teenage sweethearts get stranded in a blizzard. What comes from this is a story of family ties and a new found relationship. Great read!
Dr. Cody Ryan has recently returned home to Texas to help care for his family ranch and his father after his health has declined. Dr. Ryan has been a part of Doctors Without Borders for the better part of a decade, since he graduated from med school. After a bad snowstorm he finds himself stuck in a patients barn with a litter of kittens and a few miscellaneous cans of food.
Veterinarian, Dr. Stephanie "Stevie" O'Dell has also recently returned home after losing her mother. She has been serving the local ranches and doing house calls for pet visits as well. She too finds herself stuck in the storm and in the same barn as Dr Ryan. The two doctors also have a romantic and torrid past after Cody broke up with and left Stevie when he went away to med school. She vowed never.to look at him again.
Would 4 days in a barn in the middle on a storm change their relationship? Would they talk enough to be ok with one another?
Read Carolyn Brown's Texas Homecoming to find out what happens to the good doctors. This is one of Ms Brown's best novels yet and one of my favorite cowboy series. A must-read cowboy. Romance!
"A saying about life says: "'You don't meet people by accident. There's always a reason-- a lesson or a blessing"'.

Texas Homecoming is a very sweet story about rekindling love. Can it ever work out? Is there truly a reason or lesson to be learned when life puts you in unique situations?
Cody and Stevie dated years ago, but the breakup left them both feeling "less than amicable" toward each other. In fact, they have barely spoken since parting ways. During a blinding snow storm, they both end up taking shelter in a barn to ride out the storm. This leads to a very uncomfortable humorous predicament.
I loved the premise of this novel. The interaction of the adults with the animals made the book so sweet. I also enjoyed the family love and life lessons written in by the author. I appreciate Carolyn Brown keeping the book clean and free of graphic scenes. The book is a little repetitive and predictable, but over all it is a good feel good book. Texas Homecoming will be published January 25, 2022.
Thank you NetGalley and Forever (Grand Central Publishing) for this free ARC.
I love carolyn Brown books, and this one is really good. a blizzard traps Dr. Cody Ryan and Dr. Stevie in a barn. It is a good story with a hea..
I want to live in Honey Grove, Texas and be friends with these people!
This book is the second in this series about the Ryan family and Sunflower Ranch. While this story’s main characters are Stevie O’Dell and Cody Ryan, the rest of the Ryan family gets plenty of time, too. A second chance romance, sweet with the love of family and gold old Southern values, it is fun and heartwarming all all the same time.
Besides, who can resist baby alpacas, kittens, snowstorms and a need for coffee and chocolate??
Thanks to the author, publisher and NetGalley for the opportunity to read and review this ARC, but my opinions are my own.
I generally love Carolyn Brown novels, but Texas Homecoming just didn’t fit the bill for a cozy romance. Nothing took off until I was 40% invested and by that time, I was too bleary-eyed to continue.
Maybe it’s romance overload. So perhaps I’ll be a different perspective at a later date. But for now, Texas Homecoming wasn’t homecoming at all. Will not be posting to my social media accounts for now as I probably need to give this book another chance at another time.
I really enjoyed this story. Both Cody and Stevie got stranded together in a blizzard. They took refuge in an old barn to try and save a baby alpaca along with a cat and her babies. They at least had heat from an old stove. There was a little food, so they got by. The issue was they didn't always get along due to a crush Stevie had on him when she was younger. They spend 4 days there and were finally rescued by Cody's family. They stayed in the bunkhouse for the next little bit as the roads were closed. As they got reaquainted, the feelings they had for each other grew stronger. Stevie had some rough moments in the next week or so as her mother's house was damaged in the storm. Then both of them got offers to leave the country. Would they take them or act on their growing attraction.
I got this story from NetGalley and am volunatrily leaving a review.
A sweet and snowy second chance romance. Two doctors work out past issues. So nice to read a book where the characters communicate and not let misunderstandings fester for chapter and chapter. A pleasant read.
Cody and Stevie end up stranded together for days in a snow storm. Stevie had a huge crush on Cody when they were in high school. He broke it off and broke her heart at the same time. Cody is the last person Stevie wants to be stranded with. If you are looking for a feel good romance this book is for you. Likable characters, a predictable plot, but it will keep you entertained. Thank you to net galley for an advanced readers copy.
Texas Homecoming by Carolyn Brown is the second book in her Sunflower Ranch series. This heartwarming sweet romance has everything I wanted in a contemporary romance. A veterinarian, a family practice doctor, and a baby alpaca all stranded together in a barn, during a record-breaking snowstorm.
Cody Ryan is back home after spending ten years roaming the world with Doctors Without Borders. He’s ready to help his brother work the ranch, and be a country doctor who makes housecalls. He’s home for good this time, and is planning to settle down, and help his parents and brother work the farm.
Stephanie, or Dr. Stevie as the locals call her, is a small-town veterinarian who makes house calls to the ranches in the area. Cody Ryan broke her heart many years ago when he left for college, to become a doctor and travel the world. When a snowstorm finds her trapped in a client’s barn, the last person she wants to be trapped with is Dr. Cody Ryan.
I loved this sweet romance and enjoyed meeting up with the Ryan family again. Carolyn Brown has a knack for writing engrossing stories with complex characters that always bring a smile to my face. Stevie and Cody’s romance felt realistic, and their relationships with thier families was also heartwarming.
I recommend this book to anyone who loves a sweet, heartwarming small town romance. I received a complimentary copy of this book. The opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.
We are back in Honey Grove, with another member of the Ryan family.
This story belongs to Cody Ryan. Cody, a doctor with Doctors without Borders, is finally home to his foster family’s ranch.
What he never expected was to need shelter as he encounters a blizzard, as well as coming face to face with Stephanie O’Dell, te girl/woman from his youth. Stephanie is nowadays a veterinarian who frequents his family’s ranch.
She is none too pleased to see the man that broke her teenage heart and never looked back.
But what happens when they are forced to spend time in closed quarters? Will they realized their view of their past differs from one another? Will it open the door to a second chance in love?
This is a story about second chances in love and life. It’s also a story about family, one not always made by blood. It’s also a story about trust, and hope.
I was entrusted a copy of this book by Netgalley and Forever. The opinions expressed are solely my own.
There is never a shortage of absolute joy in a Carolyn Brown book. Her stories find a place in your heart that take residence forever. I have been a fan since my first Carolyn Brown book and love every one. TEXAS HOMECOMING is no exception. In fact it gave me a chance to visit some old friends. What could be better.
Carolyn Brown imparts her own special brand of country knowledge. Songs, folklore, common sense, family pride, honesty and of course love are the perfect recipe for a delicious story, and all included in TEXAS HOMECOMING.
Stevie is now a vet and although busy building her practice is still reeling from the death of her mother. Stevie always longed for a sibling and now more than ever feels great sadness at being so alone.
Cody has returned from Doctors Without Borders. He missed his family but most of all knew he needed to get back home.
What I learn the more stories I read by Carolyn Brown is how alike we are. Our taste in music, shows and family values front and center. References to music and even to shows bring an instant smile to my face. All adds to the enjoyment factor of any of this amazing author works.
TEXAS HOMECOMING is filled with references of traditions and past. It is easy to get bogged down in our past, but Carolyn Brown wisely shows her lead charterers that the past will always have some memories to be cherished but at the same time we must move forward. Both Stevie and Cody have some regrets. Stevie missed spending more time with her mother before she passed. Cody harbors sad memories of those he met during his time with Doctors Without Borders and at same time regrets not being at Sunflower Ranch to help once his father illness kept him on the sidelines.
Both Cody and Stevie have their shared past that interferes with them moving forward in any serious relationship, either with each other or other folk. In TEXAS HOMECOMING Cody and Stevie wind up spending way more time together then either would have predicted. And with time their relationship evolves from enemies to friends and family. Now all they have to do is accept that they are truly fated to be together. Not going to be easy. But anything worthwhile is worth working for. And if anyone can write the perfect script for a romance between these two it would be Carolyn Brown. Fans are going to absolutely love TEXAS HOMECOMING starring Cody and Stevie.
Any day that I get to read a book written by Carolyn Brown is a banner day. Texas Homecoming is everything I look for in a CB book. Earthy characters, a string community, and cute animals. This one included a cria, a baby alpaca, which was a nice change. I did feel sorry for Stevie because she had so many calamities Happen to her, I was afraid to turn the page to see what might befall her next. Come home to Texas and find your CB story.
