Heartbreaking to read especially if you have little ones. This was tough to finish but in the end it made me appreciate my little ones more.
Every book I have read from this author I have loved from the very beginning till the very end and her latest book and this book was no different. My Daughter's Mistake by Kate Hewitt was just a beautifully written book from start to finish that just took my breath away. But just like all Kate's books I have read you will need Lots of tissues.
Kate Hewitt has away of writing from her heart. Once you open any of her books; you will be taken on an emotional journey that will pulled you heart strings. She is the Queen of emotional stories of families.
When I look at my daughter. My darling girl. I remember her tiny hand in mine, her first smile. I recall her tears when she’d tumble over, healed instantly with a band-aid and a little kiss. I have to keep her safe. Even if it means someone else gets hurt….......
WoW.....this book was so good and so emotional. I ended up reading it in one sitting.
This book will not disappoint it was ju.st beautiful from start to finish
I highly recommend this book.....But, don't forget your tissues!
Thank you to NetGalley, Bookouture and the author for the opportunity to read this book for my honest review.
The plot line of My Daughter’s Mistake was interesting but not the best part of the book. It didn’t have many twists and turns, and the ones it did have were a bit easy to guess, plus, it dragged a little in places. It was the themes of the book that kept me reading.
The deepest theme by far was the theme of motherhood. The author did a great job bringing out the emotions of a mother, especially a mother who feels they are currently unable to help their child. I felt like I went through each up and down with Ellen and Jenna and, while I didn’t agree with them, or even like them, at times, it was plain to see they had their child’s best interests at heart.
The other theme that stood out was wealthy versus poor, or coming from one side of the two to the other. Ellen is more affluent and you can see it from the way she is treated following the accident. On the other hand, Jenna had a more troubled upbringing, and was judged guilty before being found innocent. The two women were a bit stereotypical at times, but not so much that it made My Daughter’s Mistake hard to read.
It was a well-crafted story that tugged at my heartstrings multiple times. The alternating points of view between these two mothers was perfect to keep you engaged.
Thank you NetGalley and Bookouture for this ARC!
What a great read! I love emotional drama and this one really hit the mark. 2 families are torn apart by one unfortunate accident.
I couldn't turn the pages fast enough! As always, I look forward to the next book by Kate Hewitt.
I'm a sucker for a book that serves me alternating viewpoints! Add in the fact that a solitary lapse in judgment (okay, maybe not solitary - because the lie was continually perpuated) quickly destroys 2 families - and I'm totally hooked. As a mother of girls - I totally understood the dislike (even that doesn't seem like a strong enough word) of the boy that her daughter thought was just the greatest. I have to admit - I kinda saw that one coming though. I sereiously appreciated the coming together at the end. Kate Hewitt is a new to me author that I will be looking out for
Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for providing me with a free digital copy in exchange for an honest review.
A story that broke my heart many times over when a road accident brought daughters of two mothers into a crisis. One was driving the car and the other got knocked down.
And the author made my heart swing like a pendulum as I read the life stories of both of these daughters through the eyes of the mothers
None of them had it easy when each chapter unfurled truth about their lives. My heart definitely got a tough workout while reading this.
Each character was real caught in a situation that was not intentional. I couldn't help but emphasize and feel their helplessness, fear, and guilt. Along with anger.
But fear not, there was hope and forgiveness entwined with convenient solutions.
A book that explored family dynamics in tough situations of life. Well worth the time and love spent on it.
Wow, what a read! I just enjoyed this book so much. It’s so well-written, it just feels like you’re witnessing true life events.
The story is told from both Jenna and Ellen’s perspectives and as the book progresses we can see that even though the women come from different backgrounds, and from literally the other side of town from each other, they have more in common than they first realise.
This story has so much going for it. It’s about the love that mothers have for their daughters, it’s about those that have and those that don’t, and it’s about family.
The characters are so realistic in this book and I was drawn into their lives straight away. I spent many an enjoyable hour completely lost in this book. Another beautiful and poignant book from a wonderfully talented author. Highly recommended.
Wow, I was not expecting such a well-crafted story that tugged at my heartstrings quite like this one did. The alternating points of view between these two mothers was quite the contrast and made for a very eventful read - but they both had so much in common to their core : their deep love for their own daughters and their undying strength to fight for them. This was an emotional read that had me rooting for both these women until the last page.
I will continue to say this: Kate Hewitt is a MUST-READ author for me. Her novels are full of emotion and characters that could be your friend, neighbor, or even yourself. Told from two different POVs, Ellen and Jenna, joined by one daughter’s mistake that led to the other’s daughter landing in the hospital, clinging to life. How had they ended up here? The aftermath of the mistake/accident shows how much perceptions color how we view ourselves and how others see us. And, ultimately, finding healing and forgiveness, for each other and themselves.
Hewitt’s MY DAUGHTER’S MISTAKE is everything I love about her novels and I finished it with tears in my eyes.
Thanks to the publisher for the opportunity to read an advanced copy of the book. All opinions are my own and freely given.

A real emotional rollercoaster that draws you straight in feeling for the two mothers who both want to protect their daughters at all costs. I love all of Kate Hewitt's and this one was definitely a tear jerker that I couldn't put down
Just so very beautiful. Poignant. Heart breaking. I cried reading this beautiful book. Such an emotional story. Just wow.
I love Kate Hewitt’s books. They are always quite emotional but I still can’t resist them.
Ellen receives a call from her teenage daughter, Maddie. who has had an accident. The victim is 6-year-old Amy Rose who is quickly rushed to hospital in critical condition. Through the chapters, we see Ellen struggling to support her daughter. She is worried about Amy Rose but as Maddie’s mother, she still has to put her daughter first. On the other hand, the second narrator is Jenna, Amy’s mother. Through her narrative, we follow Amy to the hospital and see doctors try to save her as her mother helplessly stands on the side. She is hurt, angry and scared. Ellen and Jenna are devastated by the position that their daughters are in. However, the 2 women are also hiding secrets. Worse still, Maddie is also hiding a secret about the accident.
This was a well-narrated story. The two women were quite relatable. I can’t imagine what they were going through but can totally understand the need to protect one’s child at all costs. Such a heartbreaking story overall but I enjoyed the themes of family, forgiveness and motherhood. I was intrigued by all the secrets and the final twist was as beautiful as it was heart-wrenching.
A book that makes you think what you as a parent would do if you child was in a similar situation. I really enjoyed this book, it did take a little while to get in to it and I figured out the twist quite early on but it was a good read and has lots of interesting characters. It was a bit predictable with what happened to her brother but a nice easy read that I would recommend to others.
What an emotional book. It was very hard to put this book down during everyday life. A book of loss, heartache, love, & redemption.
A must read for sure, it drew me in and didn't let go!
A heartbreaking yet beautiful story of a tragedy that could happen to any family, and a nightmare come true for any parent of a teenager. One of your worst fears becomes a reality, your child has been in an accident, yet when you find out your child caused the accident and potentially killed another child - that's where this story begins to unravel. I felt the mothers pain at all times, broken apart and torn for her daughter and the rest of her family, yet desperate to uncover the truth she knows lies behind her daughters sadness and distress.
This was a story that could affect anyone, yet told in a way that you are constantly holding your breath wondering what the truth is, who is at fault, how will it end?
I really enjoyed this book, I have read previous Kate Hewitt books, and always enjoyed them. This one did not disappoint.
This was a very dramatic novel discussing the power of a mother's love, no matter the circumstances. The story is presented from a dual point of view of two mothers that are heartbroken at the circumstances throwing their daughters literally on a collision course. A great read!
Lovely read, not something I usually go for but kept me reading throughout. Look forward to reading more from this author
What a great book. Distracted me from everything going on in life. I will read absolutely everything she writes. Highly Recommend!
I think every parent worries when they get that call from their child asking them to come, especially when they are just beginning to drive. This is what happens to Ellen, a college professor in the small, idyllic town of Milford. She gets a call from her seventeen year old daughter, Maddie that she needs her. Ellen arrives at the scene to see a young girl being taken away in an ambulance, and Maddie's car up on the curb. Maddie is sitting on the side of the road, and admits she hit the little girl, who ran out in front of her. Six year old May Rose, is rushed to the hospital with head trauma. My Daughter's Mistake is told from the points of view of the two mothers, Jenna, a single mother of the beautiful six year old Amy Rose; and Ellen - mother of the vulnerable Maddy. This is the story of two families torn apart by this tragic accident.
Kate Hewitt's book is heartbreaking, especially as it is something that could happen to any family. The characters are real and relatable, and I could feel what both of these families were going through. I felt sick for Jenna and what she was going through, yet Ellen was also heartsick for her daughter and fearful about what would happen.
As always in her books, Hewitt presents us with a situation that could befall any of us. Her characters are very real and I could not help but experience all the emotions of the characters - I seesawed in my sympathy between Jenna and Ellen - but I also felt their love, their loss, their fear and their anger. A master of family dynamics, Hewitt also involves the fathers, the siblings, and grandparents, friends and work colleagues in a story that will leave you emotionally drained but satisfied. Jenna's and Ellen's lives couldn't have been more different, but in a moment, what they now have in common is that they would do anything to protect their child. All the secondary characters play a role, siblings, other parents, as well an the town gossips. Everyone seems to take a side. Jenna was a great character. She is flawed, but is loyal and loving and not afraid to accept responsibility, even if she shouldn't. I really enjoyed this well-written book. The story was tense, and I wasn't sure what would happen next. Both mother's have secrets that I wondered about. The backstories added much to the plot and gave insight into what might happen next. Kate Hewitt included themes of alcoholism, abuse, mental health issues, anorexia, suicide and criminality. This is a novel I definitely recommend.
