This was an OK read- I had trouble getting into it in the beginning, but I enjoyed the end. It centers on Detective Byron, who is investigating a young lady who shows up a funeral claiming to be the deceased's long lost daughter. I liked Byron's character best and felt that it was well developed, though I could have done without the whisper of romance present in his internal monologue. I found the story somewhat predictable but there were some surprises at the end that made me like the book a lot more than I did initially. I am not sure if I'll read the next book in the series, but I might!

A solid first mystery in this series... I hope they do more. Blake is a super complex and compelling character, so I can't wait to see where Ms. Sharp takes her. Just when you think you have the story figured out -- wham! A twist...

# The Last Time She Died # Netgally.
This is the first book I have read by Zoe Sharp. However it most definitely will not be the last one. I was totally blown away by Byron And Blake first book. You can almost feel the pull they have towards Each other. It's a very well written book on the fast paced side which suits me down to a t..The subject matter was good as so much more is actually co.ing to lightness days from them having at last pushed it under the carpet as they did many years ago. The police were under pressure to keep it quiet because of some of the home profiles, with politicians invoke more than was found ever know. The aristocracy. Had the kind of attitude that being poor have them rights to do what they wanted. I felt really involved in the book which is exactly how I want to feel this was a brilliant book you just have to read it to appreciate it. I can b
Not wait for the second book of Blake And Byron actually working together
. Will they eventually get together ❤ you definitely have to read it can't recommend it enoigh

On the day of Gideon Fitzroys funeral, a shadowy character makes and appearance, who then claims to be Blake, Gideons daughter who went missing 10 earlier. There are some very shocked faces, especially from those that were involved in burying her body all those years ago.
Detective Byron is a force to be reckoned with and nothing gets in his way of discovering the truth, who is ‘Blake’ , what was Gideon involved in and what happened 10 years ago.
A thoroughly enjoyable debut for Byron, a character with a past I’m sure we will discover more as the series develops.

The last time she died by zoë Sharp is a truly riveting thriller which keeps the readers engaged and constantly guessing. The characters are portrayed really well which i enjoyed reading about them. It is fast paced and an entertaining crime thriller that has a great storyline, whilst reading it i enjoyed the various twists and turns with the feeling of being on the edge of your seat. The storyline is portrayed really well as it's neither too slow nor too fast which kept me constantly engaged not only in the main characters but i also quite liked a few of the side characters. Overall it is a great suspense with characters that are truly likeable, i am looking forward to the rest of the series. Thank you NetGalley and the publisher for my copy of this book.

I’ll be honest, in the beginning of this book I was not the biggest fan. It was more of a mystery feel than a thriller and I wasn’t hooked. About halfway through I started to get the real thriller feel and enjoyed it more. Many of the good twists are towards the end of the book. At time, it was a bit redundant and predictable. I liked most of the characters, but would have loved to know a bit more about them. In the end, I did enjoy the last half of the book enough that I would read the next book in the series.

Entertaining, if predictable, mystery that moved very quickly. Characters are well-developed and keep the twisty plot interesting.

Whilst I’ve given this book a low score, for me this was an engaging and easy read. It quickly draws you in and with a mix of short chapters and intriguing characters, it was tough not to read it in one sitting.

The low score is merely earned because I found the storyline and all of its characters far too predictable and obvious. Whilst the book tried to have provocative twists, the constant ‘is she? Isn’t she?’ soon became tiresome to follow as I felt the answer(s) had already been provided.

I enjoyed the main character Bryon, I liked gelid way of digging for information and befriending the other residents. But I couldn’t help feeling like his attraction towards ‘Blake’ was somewhat contrived and it never came across as mutual.

Overall, not a bad read. It just needed a bit more editing oomph!

Thanks to NetGalley for my advance copy in exchange for my honest review.

Well, I was all in on this one.

I loved our main characters, loved some of our side characters, and was totally involved in our mystery.

This is one of those books where you find yourself really interested in a little righteous vengeance against certain people. It’s also fast paced and nicely complex.

I definitely enjoyed this one. Happy that it seems to be the start of a series and I’m completely on board!

This was an engrossing and entertaining crime thriller as well as an interesting family story which had many twists and turns keeping me on the edge of my seat.
On the day of Ex MP Gideon Fitzroy’s funeral, a young girl breaks into his house and claims to be his long lost daughter. Blake Fitzroy had run away 10 years earlier and never been seen again. Fitzroy’s 2nd wife is not pleased to see her and several other friends of Fitzroy are shocked as they believed her to be dead. Does she want to claim an inheritance or is it something more she is after?
Byron is a police Superintendent, on some sort of medical leave due to an incident in his recent past. He is sent to Derbyshire to look into Fitzroy’s death- it is thought it could be foul play and he is inextricably drawn to Blake. Is she really who she claims to be and what does she want?
I loved both the main characters, Byron’s brooding presence, a man keeping his past life secret and Blake, strong and defiant, with many secrets of her own. It is no surprise that these two feel an affinity but the secrets take a long time to unravel, putting Blake’s life in danger. Someone is obviously not pleased to see her and wants to ensure she keeps her mouth firmly shut.
I rushed through this book, eager to turn the pages and find out more about Byron and Blake. As well as being an excellent thriller, this novel is also an examination of family dynamics and secrets that must eventually be revealed..
The last page threw me a wonderful curveball and left me wanting to read more about Byron and Blake. I can’t wait for the next book in the series! One question for the author- is she a poetry fan? Byron and Blake as name choices lead me to believe so!

When Blake disappeared, her father never even reported her missing. Now, ten years on, he’s dead and Blake has shown up out of the blue for the funeral. Detective John Byron is involved because the accident that killed Blake’s father is very suspicious. But now the family also want him to investigate the reappearance of Blake; they believe the woman is an imposter. the real Blake is dead, they’re sure of it. Overall enjoyed this book, alternated between a police procedural and family drama type of mystery. The main characters were likeable and relatable. The style was more of a british detached style, which was a little harder to get into than some other styles for me. I did get involved and would read more from this author and this series

Good book! This book had suspense, intrigue, murder and mayhem! It had a great who done it too! The characters left you guessing who was who right up until the end! Speaking of the end, I definitely didn't like the ending! I mean you can kind of guess what happened?! But I'd rather know for sure! Lol that was the only part that I didn't like! I would definitely recommend reading this book! Its well worth reading! Thank you Netgalley and the publisher for sharing this book with me!
