Thank you Netgalley & Bookouture for this amazing book..
Oh Wow A chilling Psychological Thriller from this amazing author.
15A Mistletoe lane, in Friars Cliff, Dorset a new flat for couple Zac Ainsworth and Nina Davenport, It's just perfect, a self employed plumber and working from home as a online fashion store business that she renames Mistletoe lane, this is a new start for the couple and a next step.
Upstairs in 15B are couple Chris and Vanessa Jackson at five months pregnant they find her a bit quiet but Chris makes up for the two and welcomes them both.
With Nina been home a lot she starts to hear a lot of banging and arguing from them that is getting a bit disturbing and she makes out Chris as been a bully then it gets worse and starts during the night with furnisher moving.
Their housewarming party goes well we all the new neighbours including Chris and Vanessa but there is still nothing right with them upstairs, things start to go terribly wrong for Zak and Nina and they argue is their relationship about to be screwed up, can they survive?
this is one harrowing gripped up story to get your head into, I loved it, so much action happening that will shake and make you shiver reading. Superb writing from the author.
such a quick read for me. goosebumps throughout for real.. amazing writting.
Whenever I hear that Shalini Boland has a new book coming out I don’t even need to read the blurb all I know is I must read it. The Couple Upstairs was no exception to this. Once I started this book I just didn’t want to put it down I was engrossed in the story. This is a brilliant psychological thriller that had me hooked from the very beginning and I highly recommend this book.
I am disappointed that this wasn’t as thrilling or suspenseful as expected… there was so much potential. I had high expectations after the prologue but the remainder of the book was anticlimactic.
A good quick read. The found the characters really frustrating in parts, and didn't really even take to any of them. But the writing is very good.
I struggled through this to the end - I just didn’t enjoy the storyline at all. The switching back and forth between times didn’t work at all for me.
The Couple Upstairs is an easy, one sitting type of read. The writing is impeccable!!
Don't go in expecting a dark psychological thriller, I actually didn't feel much of that anxiety, but more so curiosity, I wanted to know who the crazy one was and why. The motive seemed a little petty to me, but I guess there's people like that 🤷🏽♀️
There was just one scene where I knew what was going to happen next and the fact that Nina stayed in the house alone was just nonsensical, she could've left, but I feel the author made her stay because it was more convenient for the plot.
I would recommend this to those getting started in the genre or don't like their books too dark 😉
I really love Shalini Boland’s books. They are always a fun, quick, thrilling read, and I’m glad I read this one. That said, this one didn’t feel all that original. From the very beginning I felt like I was reading a knock-off of Mark Edwards’ “The Magpies”. Same exact plot and writing style, although “The Magpies” was much darker. With both books it was a little disappointing that you knew right from the get go who was responsible for all of the terrorizing. I know that was the author’s intention (I mean, the name of the book is literally “The Couple Upstairs”), but it did take away some of the surprise, and made it frustrating that the main characters couldn’t put the pieces together themselves. I will say that I was still slightly surprised by some of the twists at the end of the book, which was nice. Overall, this was an enjoyable read, and I look forward to reading more of Ms. Boland’s books.
Thanks netgalley for giving me the opportunity to read this book. It was easy to read and kept me interested right up to the end, and I never guessed how the ending would be.
Mistetoe Lane Is where Zac and Nina bought their dream home something Nina had always hoped they would have
They both work very hard and are saving up to start making their home as they would like it.
But everything goes wrong when they meet their uostair neighbours, and then everything goes wrong.
Nina looses her business and Zac leaves her thinking she is having an affair,
Yes I did enjoy not amazing.but read it very quickly as could not put it down.
The new apartment on the ground floor is perfect for Nina and her partner Zac. There’s a separate home office in the garden, perfect for Nina’s new fashion business. The neighbors upstairs, Chris and Vanessa, seem friendly and welcoming. Then strange things start to happen. First are the noises in the night. Furniture being dragged across a room, things being thrown and the arguing and screaming. Nina worries that Vanessa, pregnant with her first child, is being abused. There are rumors in the neighborhood about Nina and her relationship with Zak. She doesn’t understand what is happening…until it is almost too late.
Shalini Boland has done it again! Fast paced, suspenseful and hard to put down, The Couple Upstairs is a 5 star read!
Thank you to NetGalley, Bookouture and Shalini Boland for this ARC.

Thank you to Shalini Boland, NetGalley and Bookouture for the opportunity to read and review this book.
Shalini - WOW - you’ve done it again!!! I saw this book and remembered enjoying a previous book by this author, and was excited to pick it up. The story centers around Nina, a sweet and driven woman whose life is falling into place: long-term happy relationship, a startup that is taking off, and now the perfect new place. But shortly after she moves in, things start to go awry… is it just bad luck?
Thank you Bookouture and NetGalley for this ARC that was a delight to read from start to finish!
At least now I won’t wonder what to read next… time to catch up on the Shalini Boland books I’ve missed!
This was my first Shalini Boland thriller.
What an enjoyable, quick paced read that had me turning the pages to get to the, somewhat crazy, but still thrilling, ending!
With great characters, twists and plenty of suspense, it's a solid ⭐⭐⭐⭐ read for me.
Another fantastic domestic thriller from one of my favorite authors! Shalini Boland writes smooth, intricate stories which hook you right away while her twists and turns spiral throughout. The Couple Upstairs is tense, taut and compulsively readable!
Many thanks to NetGalley and Bookouture for this ARC!
A brilliant tale of grudges held and passionate vengeance.
A fantastic look at how dreadfully fragile we all can be and the lengths some will go to when we have been hurt.
I loved reading this. Kept me awake at night because I did not want to put it down.
A wonderful page turner that kept my interest and captivated my brain.
Twists and turns galore with a healthy dollop of suspense.
Highly recommended 5 stars from me.
Oh I loved this book! Shalini Boland has a wonderful knack of writing characters who are so realistic. You get totally sucked into their lives.
This was quite a slow burner to start with but then the tension picked up, the drama picked up and next thing I knew it was 2.30 in the morning!
A wonderful page turner to keep you hooked til the very last page.
Amazing psychological thriller, the best book I’ve read in a long time! It grabbed me from the start and I was captivated all throughout. I was eager to learn all of the secrets but sad to see it end. This is a great author, everything I’ve read has been awesome, and I look forward to her next book!
Shalini Boland is one of those authors where I don’t even read the blurb before I read one of her books, as I know I am going to love it, no matter what !!
Couple, Nina and Zac, are moving in to their first flat that they own, rather than rent. This is a big deal for both of them and they are excited about settling in and meeting their new neighbours.
As well as moving into their new home, Nina is building her own business and is hoping that the workshop in the garden is going to help her.
When they meet the neighbours that live above them Nina isn’t quite sure about the husband, Chris. He seems a little off with Nina and only seems to talk to Zac. His wife, is very quiet and doesn’t utter a word to them.
After settling in little things start to go wrong for Nina’s business and she is convinced it may have something to do with their new neighbours. But is Nina just imaging it ? Can her business survive ? And will Zac and Nina’s relationship survive ?
This is a great psychological thriller that will have you hooked right from the very start. As always this is a great book from Shalini and if you read it you won’t be disappointed.
Thank you to Bookouture and NetGalley for a digital copy of this book.
Addictive from start to finish! Another great book from the fantastic Shalini Boland
Everybody needs good neighbours! Although there are some you’d rather avoid, especially if they’re like some of the people in this story!
Nina and Zac have just set up home together. With a place to call their own and Nina’s new business about to take off, things couldn’t be more perfect. That is until they get struck down with a nasty sickness bug on the day they move in! Hoping that their rocky start is just a touch of bad luck, Nina and Zac decide to throw a housewarming party, inviting family, friends and the new neighbours!
Zac quickly befriends Chris, their neighbour from the flat upstairs. Nina on the other hand finds it a bit of a struggle getting to know Chris’s partner Vanessa, she assumes she’s just a bit shy but after she sees the way Chris is around her and hears some heated arguments she begins to wonder what the hell is going on behind closed doors!
It’s not long before things start going terribly wrong for Nina, she’s convinced someone is out to get her but when her friends and her boyfriend tell her she’s overthinking things, she runs out of people to turn to. With her life falling apart and her relationship with Zac on the brink, Nina makes it her mission to find out who is trying to destroy her and why.
I’ve never not loved a book by Shalini, I find her stories so easy to read, I’m always drawn in from the start and captivated until the final pages! With suspicious characters and fantastic plot twists, you really can’t go wrong with a Shalini thriller.
The story is cleverly written and took a few turns that I didn’t see coming! I felt sorry for Nina at times and just wanted to shout at the other characters in the book when nobody was listening to her. I tried to guess where the story was heading a few times and whilst I wasn’t far off, I didn’t work everything out, which made for a shocking and surprising ending!
An action-packed twisty thriller that will not disappoint! Thank you to Shalini Boland, Bookouture & NetGalley for my copy of this fantastic book!
I think this is the fastest I’ve read a book in ages. I’m reading some really great books at the moment, and it’s helping me to get my reading groove back. This one certainly contributed to the great book list!
I’m not sure what it was that gave it such a fast pace because not a lot is happening to begin with. Just a few little oddities that all start to mount up to being something much more sinister. I think it was the not being able to figure out what was going on that kept me gripped.
To begin with, it feels like Nina is making something out of nothing; it’s more of a feeling that her life is spiralling. However, when the big things start happening, and everything is being revealed, it made for compelling reading.
The majority of the book is told from Nina’s point of view, but there are the odd ‘Then’ chapters interspersed following a young girl. We have no idea what relevance these tiny chapters have to the book as a whole or who the young girl is. It does all become relevant and is tied together very nicely at the end.
I found Nina to be a very likeable character. She seemed to genuinely care about other people, and I loved her business idea. It didn’t help my state of mind, though that I run a small business that is having some teething problems at the moment, so my mood started to reflect Nina’s, and I found myself blowing things out of proportion like she was. I had to give myself a talking to!
Overall, I thoroughly enjoyed this book, and it made up for the last Shalini Boland book that I read and didn’t enjoy. The only slight gripe I had were the last couple of pages; I felt like it got a bit too philosophical and dragged on a bit. Other than that a solid five-star read.
Another great book by Shalini Boland, this book had me gripped and wanting to keep reading on, perfect style of writing.
